[VOTE] July Nominations !!READ BEFORE VOTING!!

Post by CmdrWilkens »

Allrighty:

!!! PAY ATTENTION TO THE COMMENTS BELOW, This is the 2nd vote with Instant Runoff/Approval Voting and I want everyone to be clear on how this vote will be conducted before casting a vote.

1) If you have questions then PM me

2) The 4 candidate matrix is almost impossible for the 10 vote limit to handle so I have done is create an approval based vote. This means you are voting for all of the candidates you would find acceptable as senators only not in any ranked order of preference.

3) There are essentially three broad categories of votes:
  • - One candidate is acceptable and nobody else
    - All the candidates are acceptable except one
    - None of the candidates are acceptable / Abstain
4) Clarifying a bit if the four candidates are A, B, C, and D:
  • 1) A Only
    2) B Only
    3) C Only
    4) D Only
    5) B, C, or D but NOT A
    6) A, C, or D but NOT B
    7) A, B, or D but NOT C
    8) A, B, or C but NOT D
    9) None of the above
    10) Abstain
The math will work as follows:
  • Votes for A = 1 + 6 + 7 + 8
    Votes for B = 2 + 5 + 7 + 8
    Votes for C = 3 + 5 + 6 + 8
    Votes for D = 4 + 5 + 6 + 7
    Votes for None = 9
The greatest total amongst the 5 options will win.

5) Please see the Nomination Thread for the full listing of comments and threads regarding each individual candidate. our nominees for the month of July are (listed in the order of initial nomination):

Candidate A) Steve

Candidate B) painrack

Candidate C) Havok

Candidate D) Starglider

It would have made a bit more sense to just have two polls, since the candidates don't compete against each other directly--it's just like having four simultaneous yes/no votes but with less threads, with the overall leader being the winner unless he fails to pass none in the corresponding poll. As discussed previously, it's one of the pros of the scheme that it can handle any number of candidates without forcing some a choice that may be not in accordance to the voter's true preferences (such as here, being unable to support two candidates). Being forced into such pigeonholes, and the unfortunate side effects of such, was the primary criticism of the proposed alternatives in the first place.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

I agree excepting that conducting two simultaneous polls introduces a seperate measure of complexity which I am not yet prepared to administer.
