[Discussion] VI time for Voluntaryist?

Post by The Duchess of Zeon »

Most recent HOSed thread

Next most recent.

One before that.

First and dumbest, of course.

So, that's 4 HOSed threads in 28 days. He has refused to debate honestly and effectively in the Coliseum. Is it time for the heat to be cranked up on him with a VI?

I had to say I was relieved when I thought that he was just the mess prank this year, and then saddened when I realised he was not just having us on.

Title him. Maybe if he gets his ass in gear and starts debating in the Flavian Amphitheatre instead of rabble-rousing elsewhere, I might change my mind.

I don't think his debate in the Coliseum should contribute toward a VI title. It's to his credit that he's stepped up to defend his beliefs, and the debate is very slow-moving, so it's difficult to say after a round and a half whether he's demonstrating VI qualities there.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

I agree. The Coliseum thread ought not count towards considering him for a VI. Not when everything else he's done on this board is already a convincing demonstration of why he deserves the title.

Everything outside the colliseum is VI worthy - let's title the sniveling little arrogant bastard who has no clue how privileged he is vis a vis the rest of human history.

Perhaps if he stopped posting elsewhere, the debate in the Colliseum would move forward. Personally, I see Voluntarist as a waste of time and posting space.

Skip the VI and ban him.

His repeated rules violations would certainly warrant a title. Since he has been deliberately spared by Darth Wong, I don't think it would be appropriate or productive to call for a ban.

I generally feel that we should hold off on any action until after the debate in the Coliseum is concluded.

I bloody well agree with Wilkens. We could at least wait until that debate is over before passing sentence. Its not as if we can't afford to be fair-minded (even in the face of overwhelming evidence.)

Besides which, its redundant - why the fuck bother when anyyone who reads his stuff (or sees how people react to his claims) can come to this conclusion themselves? last I recall we still like to encourage people to actually think on matters rather than mindlessly accept it (whatever the reality of the board situation is.)

I doubt he's a long time member so I don't really see the point. If he sticks around for a while I'd be more inclined to put effort into him in this regard.

Let's do something AFTER the 1v1 debate. Given his piss poor record of trying and doing nothing but rote spouting of anarchist websites, he's likely getting a ban stick if he can't debate.

No reason to slap any title until it shows he's going to stay more then a couple months given he can't even keep up.

Perhaps, as a lesson in real anarchy, his eventual fate could be decided by poll in The Hall of Shame, by a volunteer populace?

Yeah but at the same time if he's just going down this road of idiocracy then there is no point in the intermediate punishment of titling. In the edn the prupose of the tile isn't just to call attention to the truly stupid but serve as a shot across the bow that continuation will lead to banning.

CmdrWilkens is right, there isn't much of a point to titling him. We should probably just ban him straight off.

How about just give him a Censure for avoiding his argument? Since he is here for a specific purpose, give him a specific title. Maybe "Ayn Rand's Hunchbacked Assistant" or something until he starts to address his topic?

Man, Libertarians, I swear-- the Scientologists of the political world. Instead of Xenu, it's Ayn Rand; instead of Thetans, it's the 'invisible hand'. Let's give him a time limit to address the subject or be booted.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

I'd agree with an abritary title if it weren't just some cheap shot at his perceived ideology.

I don't think any action should be taken so long as the debate in the Colosseum is underway. It seems to me that it's unfair to suddenly slap one side of a special, highly-visible debate with an insulting custom title based on threads the general public can't even see. Needless to say, banning him would be completely jumping the gun, and I don't really see the reason for the hurry here.

I would not, however, be opposed to confining him to the Colosseum until the debate is over, given how long the Colosseum debate is taking and how much time he's undoubtedly wasting trying to argue with people in the HoS.

I'd second that. I wouldn't mind him arguing with people in the HOS if he were keeping up with the Colosseum debate, or if he were taking his sweet time in the Colosseum debate if he weren't arguing with people elsewhere on the board. I am irritated that he complained about having people pile on him, so a special debate thread was made just for him, and then he seems to argue everwhere* but the Colosseum.

I support confining Voluntaryist to the Coliseum. He seems to spaminate instead of learning to argue; so perhaps he really needs to be confined to a single place, single point discussion with a single debator. If his debating manner improves, he could later leave the Coliseum and post elsewhere.

However, I do not support a ban or titling.

Problem is confining him is much more difficult and far less productive. If this could've been done...there would be many posters this particular punishment would've been enacted upon.

Banning him is closely becoming an option if he can't do anything in the arena that he wanted. He's amusing but he's broken a shit load of rules in his former debates and he's continuing this bit in the arena.

Slapping VI on him is useless as he is never going to shape up unless an outside board problem falls upon his worthless dumbass.

There's no difficulty at all. Tell him he's not allowed to post in any threads (or maybe only not allowed to post in any debate threads) until the debate in the Collisseum is over. If he does, he's banned.
