Moderation Proposal; Assistant Moderators

Here's the idea;
It's generally been said we dont' have enough moderation on the BBS.

Fine, and dandy.

Finding new moderators however, is probably a pain the neck.

So I'd like to propose a 'Assistant Moderator' position.

This position would have the ability to issue official warnings, and would be responsible for notifying the actual moderators of problems.

The fact a warning comes from a (nominal) staff member could or should have more impact then a fellow user going 'dude, chill'

*sigh*

Or just make new moderators.

Look, it's no secrete we need them and it's no secrete that getting them is taking a LONG time. But stop gaps like this won't work well and seems like if we can get them 'authorized' we could have just gotten new mods authorized.

Isn't this just the posse idea, worded different?

Isn't there moderator shuffling going on right now? I notice Surlethe is testing mod powers. Or was he a mod already?

And this idea sound like XII's posse idea, just... lamer.

Lame the first time, lame now. Pay attention Solauren. :P

Also, ITT we learn that Knife has a problem or dislike of the word "secret". :D

Might as well make it public, that we now have new full moderators. Surlethe, Stas Bush and Simplicius have been made mods of SLAM, N&P and OT respectively. Whether there will be an official announcement later is still open, but their names appear as mods of the respective forums.

Excellent! This is good news. Will there be more to come, or will we see if this holds the line sufficiently before making any further decisions?

Oppressive Soviet moderation for all? Excellent.

Nice to see the admin doing its thing.

So, for new mods; you randomly picked a letter of the alphabet, in this case 's'. Then proceeded to pick board members with screen names starting with random selected letter?

Cool.

We shall see. That's up to the admins.

Not exactly. All of them have been discussed as possibilities sometime or other and all have demonstrated they have what it takes. The usernames are a coincidence.

Let it be a matter of public record that I find your claims of coincidence to be...dubious at best.

*squints*

Don't think you're getting away with anything here, Edi - I'm on to you and your scheme. As soon as I have enough evidence the hammer will fall like...a hammer; which was dropped and is therefore falling. Just you remember this: I know things. About stuff. I also know stuff about things so you will not be able to slither your scaly dragon-ass out of this.

Aw man, Surly is totally unredeemable now. First a Senator, cool, he's like a rogue Senator anyway. But now he's a mod? Parenthood stole his youthful innocence away :(

Those three are going to be excellent mods.

Stas-kun is one of my favorite persons ever. He's so levelheaded and so... socialist!

Well, this is genunely excellent and positive news, and we can only hope it will establish a trend of progressively further moderation additions and pruning of moderators who no longer participate in the board to create an effective and coherent moderatorial force for the nature of a message board that SD.net has become. I can only say they'll all going to do an excellent job, definitely some of the best we've got in the Senate.

Those are three excellent additions to the staff, indeed. I think more will be needed in the future, but those three are a first rate start.

I was thinking this would be a good 'step' towards the new mods. A 'trial run' as you will.

Here's the problem:

Giving users new permissions to act as "assistant moderators" or "moderator posses" or "super-Horeseman"...actually doing that would require just as much work and just as much input from the admin staff as getting new moderators so why would we go for half measures when they would require the same amount of time and effort as getting the full measure.

I wasn't talking about giving system commands or access. Just 'okay, for the next X time period, you have permission to tell people off and notify a moderator of a problem'.

Anyone that shows they are good at that, could be promoted at that point.

Just a thought. Kinda of like appointing someone in a group unit supervisor at work.

Yeah, a bunch of hall monitors like the last proposal. If you see a problem, you can already tell a mod about it, you don't need to be deputized for that.

Have a very nice day.

Okay then. Consider this dropped.

Oh, and funny parting comment on this topic: Oh, Come on! I wanted the shinny badge! 8)

Don't worry, you'll get their chance when they get to "K"; the odds are down to 1:24 against!
