What exactly are the volumes of MBTs and what are they taken up by?

Kind of curious of why the Leopard 2 is roughly 40% higher then the Abrams, at least according to wikipedia.

A ridiculous pile of armor, a huge engine to push the ridiculous pile of armor around, a cannon, ammunition for that cannon, and a few guys wedged in in some spare cracks, ostensibly to drive the thing (more likely to provide biodegradable padding for the moving parts). There's a cutaway picture at the link.

Wikipedia is quoting incompatible height measurements, or just wrong as usual then, I have no interest in figuring out which. The key height measurement to the top of the turret roof is near identical for these two vehicles, the Leopard II is only about four inches taller, which is probably linked into the large amount of ammunition stowed in the hull and that the M1 hull is maybe a foot longer. If you count all the equipment on the turret roof other then radio whips the M1 is a bit taller.
