Constantinople does not fall in 1453 (RAR!)

Post by lord Martiya »

As we know, the Byzantine Empire fell with Constantinople in 1453 under the attack of the Ottoman Sultanate. But what would happen if the Ottoman were instead repelled as in 1422?

How do you expect anyone to give you an answer if you are only give us a single line to work with. Even then, you need to tell us why didn't Constantinople fall before anyone can give you an answer.

Oh well, I guess Thanas will get pissed again.

Unless this triggers a civil war so nasty that it literally destroys the Ottoman empire as an organized state, it's only a matter of time until they try again. They had land in the Balkans and Turkey, a larger army, and far more wealth then the Byzantines. If Mehmed II's attack failed, it would still cause lots of damage to Constantinople, and by this point in time, Constantine XI couldn't even get the crown jewels out of hock, let alone take advantage of the breathing space to modernize his army or effect permanent repairs to the walls.

It's a delay of execution, nothing more.

I will use small words to explain myself.

There is a big sticky.

It is labelled as "History Forum rules and policies".

I suggest you read it.

As for the question you asked, Setzer answered it.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'?
