I think there's two major classes of Homophobes.

1.) Religious Nutacses: Pretty self explanatory.
2.) Men who have had homo-erotic thoughts and are terrified of them. They're probably not gay, but they are so scared of being gay they attack gays. Sort of like some serial killers who target woman. A lot were raised to believe sex was evil, so when they get arroused by looking at a woman they think they're sinning. They can either admit to themselves they are weak, or they can attack the woman for seducing them. Of course, if you are raised with a healthy attitude about sex, this isn't a problem.

Also, a minority would target gays just cause they think they can get away with it. No one cares if someone beats up a few gays. No one cares, no one investigates. No investigation, no punishment.

Yes, but that's just overt, violent homophobes. A more subtle explanation is needed for the millions of mainstream homophobes who don't run around bashing gays but do consistently vote against giving gays equal rights.

But when the occasional gay-porn picture appeared there was a spike in arousal in homophobes, compared to non-homophobes.

How do they know it was arousal rather than agitation? Did they have a penis stiffness monitor? Or were they monitoring heartrate etc, where agitation and arousal are indistinguishable?

But seriously, I would repeat the earlier point: should we seriously believe that the majority of homophobes, who constitute a huge chunk of the general population, share this particular bizarro mentality?

Nope. I've always had this sneaking suspicion that the sissies in grade school who were always picked on throughout life got their revenge by creating labels and sucessfully inserting them into the public conscience.

For instance men liking guns because it represents a powerful phallic symbol to compensate for a small penis. Or weapons of war like rockets looking like penises for the same reason. Hey, ever wonder how a vagina-shaped rocket would perform? As a net perhaps...

I can't go about saying that homosexuality repulses me without being labeled a homophobe (fear of homosexuals). Hey, sorry; but bukakkae, fecal porn, golden showers, and beastiality repulses me too. That doesn't mean I give a heave-ho fuck what anyone wants to do with their private parts.

But homosexuals can be as militant as creationists, or anyone else with an agenda. I also can't say that heterosexuality is the..."default" config on a human, and that things like homosexuality are a deviation of that, without being labeled a homophobe AND a fundamentalist! By using the word deviation, I'm using the correct term, and not trying to slip "deviant" in there.

Pop psychology. Maybe true in some cases but not a blanket that can be pulled over all.

This is one of the most ignorant statements people typically make. Bear in mind that the easiest way for an object to travel through a barrier (air, water, vaginal lips, armor, etc) is to have a rounded cone on the front and the rest of the structure behind the cone and within its circumference. Form follows function, and people who are overly-obsessed will take aero-, hydro- or ballistic dynamics and turn it into some Freudian crapfest.

But the problem here is the people who take that one step further and at on it; either by physical beatings or institutional discrimination. But in this case, you're right-- a person who finds homosexual acts repulsive will be tarred and feathered socially if he dares say so aloud; in this case the PC Police have made it so that you have no right to an opinion.

It's the really violent homophobes, the sort who drag people behind trucks, that I'm thinking of though when I say that they probably have tendencies that direction themselves. Yeah, a substantial portion of the male population uses "gay" as an insult: I'm as guilty of it as the next guy. But there is something seriously *wrong* with guys who go out of their way to hate homosexual men and beat them up or kill them. There just has to be something more going on with a man than just societal conditioning to make him hate gays to that kind of an extreme.

What if you're repulsed by the idea of anal sex, and yet still find yourself attracted to or aven falling in love with a man?

Then you would be a very frustrated gay man. I can't imagine there are any gays who are repulsed by anal sex; it seems ridiculous, like a straight guy who's repulsed by vaginal fluids.
