But what if you are wrong?

Post by Tron »

I have seen quite a few of you "open minded" scientific types proclaim that there is no God.

My question to all of you is this: "What if you are wrong? What will you say to Him on Judgement Day?"

Just curious.

Well, I am no scientist, but I am no Christian. And there are plenty of agnostics here, as well.

I personally would say what I have to say: the truth. There's nothing else *for* me to say.

I foresee Wong and a few others saying that they *still* doesn't believe in God, but I could be wrong.

And what is wrong with that? Are you going to give us this moronic assumption that it's a 50/50 probability?

I will say "You mass-murdering bastard. I'd rather take my chances with Satan than with a genocidal maniac like you."

My question to you is this: what if you are wrong and the real true god is Satan, Allah or Cthulhu?

If someone is going to believe 'just in case' a god might exist, why should he/she choose to believe in the Christian god rather than one of the multitude of others out there? Surely, 'just in case' requires belief in all gods, just in case the real one is some lesser known Hindu deity or some such.

I will look him in the eye and say "You, good sir, are a blithering idiot. I will not serve you. Now, if you will just direct me to Satan, I will be on my way."

I figure that a deity is within the realm of possibility. And if there was some sort of afterlife that requires judgement aside from our actions it would have come down and told us. This does not mean that it is necessarily a god from some existing religion.

Judge on the actions is my bet.

Oh and poke.

I have a question: Just because there is a God in the Christian sense, does that inherently mean that there is Satan, or even Hell, for that matter?

In the Christian sense, no, it does not nessecarily mean that. The Catholic pope himself (I forget his his name) has declared that there is no hell, just "being apart from God." Of course, if by Christian you mean fundie, then yes, definately.

Well, the burden of proof is on God to conclusively demonstrate that He exists. As He hasn't done anything of the sort, the question is moot. I will go to my grave knowing that nothing awaits me after I die. No dull afterlife and no vengeful imaginary person in the sky.

I would do the following things in order:

1. Think: "Oh, so God does exist."

2. Try to have small talk with God.

3. After finished with conversation, go back down to Earth and help everyone else fight the Anti-Christ.

Oh and Tron, you being a bus driver, I'm pretty sure I know what other message board you post on. But still, I must do this.

Maybe God doesn't want to prove himself to us because he knows all the stupid fundie people in the world will capitalize on that and do really stupid, annoying things to the rest of the world. The Christian global community would probably go wacko on the rest of the world too if God revealed himself.

Just a thought on why God hasn't shown himself yet.

No. Satan is an excuse for bad human behavior: "The Devil made me do it". Bullshit. Judaism does not posit the existance of a Devil, all the villains of Jewish history are people acting badly-- Haman, Amalek, Pharoah, Hitler. Any rationalization through "the Devil" is an attempt for wrongdoers ot evade responsibility.

And there is no real Hell either, but a sort of place of justice called Sheol. That is the place where each soul must face the things s/he did wrong, comprehend the pain they caused and why they were wrong, and accept responsibility fo rhteir actions. The justice is balanced and proportional; there is none of this boiling in oil for seven eternities for putting your little sister's Barbie in the toilet.

When all is said and done, at the Shabbat service, we pray for all the nationsof the world to know peace and justice; that no one shall know oppression. Not just the club members.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Of the two, Judaism outdates Chritianity by anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 years, and Christianity bases its validity on Hebrew prophesy that a Messiah would come and lead the nations to peace. Christians say "Jesus was that guy, th one we've been waiting for" while Jews say, "mmm, nope, not him, still waiting."

For another interesting view of God and his nature, read Milton's "Paradise Lost". God sets up Adam and Eve to make the moral choice of defying him with the fruit of the tree. The reason? Because their devotion to him was like that of a robot; unthinking and not of conscious choice. He wanted them to be able to make the choice of not going to God and so pretty much set them up.
