Read this crap ....

"This is pretty boring. So far you still haven't convinced me of how absolute morals (i.e. morals that are unchanging. Such as love your neighbour as you love yourself. Or Thou shalt not steal) should bow down to relative morals (i.e. morals that have developed over the species evolution. Whereby it's possible that rape, murder, theft in another time could have been acceptable). What you've only gone so far to show, is that by relative standards, the Judeo-Christian raises the bar of righteousness higher than that of present day society. No where in the bible does the Lord condone rape, murder or theft."

Later in the email ...

"It is a foolish one, considering that you too place your faith in the sanctity of there is no God. Belief that there is no God is just as much a claim to know something. To believe that the universe sprang forth from nothing requires more faith than to believe that there was a master creator. To believe that somehow the most complicated machinery (life) sprang forth due to a cosmic accident, once again, from nothing, requires more faith than believing that it was created by a master creator. Similary, to think that substances like carbon can spring to life from a null event requires faith. While we may may place our faith in a Holy Trinity, you place your faith in the Lord of Nothing! From God we came, we claim. But you claim that from nothing you came. With the amount of faith that you place in the Lord Nothing, surely you can move mountains... or no doubt planets/universes/the cosmos."

Don't you love the way they spout a constant stream of claim after claim after claim, never justifying even ONE of them? They've been taught to think that way: state your conclusion as if it were a fact, and state a whole bunch of these "facts" in a row in order to construct a stronger argument.

When my friend is in FUNDIE mode it is infuriating. This was my reply to the last part:

"I do not have 'faith' in the non-belief of something. There is no evidence, therefore I don't believe it. This is called sanity. PROVE that Invisible Pink Unicorns do not exist. I dare you. Do you believe in them? Why not? You can't PROVE they don't exist. What's more, I have faith that these IPUs are the MASTER CREATOR. How can you not believe this? It is self-evident

I do not go to the Church of NON-belief in God, nor do I worship my non-belief of God. Trying to classify atheism as religion fails quite miserably. I will ignore the strawman distortions of the Big Bang and evolution theory (if you wish to debate that topic, I am more than willing) what science says is not faith; it is based on observations of the universe. You can try to introduce the extraneous 'God' concept to satisfy your religious leanings, but it is pure appeal to ignorance: "we don't know this, our Judeo-Christian (as opposed to Muslim, Hindu, Moabite etc) God must have done it!".Con-men have been doing this for thousands of years (lightning=God, earthquakes=God etc etc) and science just keeps squeezing the gaps tighter."
