I have spanked each of my children only once in their lives, and I felt bad about it all through the rest of the day. My wife has never spanked either child.

However, when they get wild, she cannot control them. They ignore her, and when she raises her voice, they merely make more noise to drown her out. But when I bark, they stop immediately.

I don't think parents should their kids without remorse, but a good ing works. If you don't give your kids a good slap in the face once in thier life, they'll grow up to be brats. A good hollering would suffice too. My mom was ed and slapped as a child, but she grew up just fine.

Children have to learn from a young age the difference between right and wrong. You can threaten a wee person only so much before he or she realises you are full of shit. Here in the UK children terrorise old ppl, rob shops, threaten teachers lives and all sorts of nasty things. If those children hadda been taught there was a line you do no cross thenhalf these problems would go away. I don't believe in beating the shit outta a child as if he was an adult like my dad did before i beat the shit outta him back, but a firm slap to the face or where-ever will show the kid when he or she can't push it any more.

When children are that young, they really aren't capable of understanding morality beyond a simple "crime and punishment" perspective. However, as they grow, the parents have to make sure that they eventually do come to understand why certain things are wrong.

Giving kids a good ass whooping and scaring them with eggagerated truths I think are a great way for keeping your kids in line. It worked for me and my three siblings a we turned out fine.

I was spanked twice as a child, yet it was completely unnecessary. Both times it involved a vengeful mother and father who covered for my brother's ass when he provoked me into fighting. Although my brother has received many spankings for his misbehavior, it didn't do a damn thing to set him straight. What a fucking surprise.

Funny. My brother is quite the advocate of spankings and corporal punishment, and as of right now has a long criminal record. Myself, and everyone else I know that's anti-spanking, has no record.

Contrary to ignorant opinions, most anti-spanking people have children and actually practice what they preach. I am not a parent myself, but I know quite a few parents that did not spank their children. They turned out fine.

I used to think that society was beginning to advance itself beyond the simpleton thought processes of days past, such as :

- watching sexual acts will take away your innocence

I was wrong. Especially since 9/11, we've returned to some fucked up xtian culture that demands we almost beat the shit out of our kids for discipline (and don't hand me bullshit about simple one-strike spankings; most parents literally beat the buttocks 'til its a rainbow of colors)

In moderation, yes. Sometimes it is the only way to effectively discipline a child but it does depend on the kid I guess, some it won't help with at all.

Step 1: Mom catches us in the act (we never got spanked if she discovered the evidence later--for that, she'd skip right to step 3).

Step 2: Spanking, typically two or three good wallops on the ass right then and there.

Step 3: We'd get sent to our rooms. My mother put an evil twist on this: we had to sit on our hands. This was uncomfortable and boring. It worked because our house was so small mom could get up the stairs faster than we could get back into position should we be playing on the floor or something.

Step 4: The Talk. Mom explains why we were punished, and that she still loves us, and if we ever do that again, she'd whoop our asses even harder. Typically, neither I nor my sister would fuck up the same way twice.

There were variations on this. If my father ever got involved, it was full-blown over-the-knee, pants down spanking that you didn't forget. I think that only happened to me once or twice. If we mouthed off, we'd get a quick crack to the face with my mom's bony talon of a right hand. This still happens to me occasionally, at 21, and I pretty much deserve all of them.

It was effective discipline. She wouldn't have to do it much. She also kept plastic spatulas in every room in the house. Usually, if we were acting up, she could just say "I'm going to count to five. If you don't stop, I'm going to beat your ass." Then she'd pick up the spatula and start counting. She almost never got to five before we stopped. With me, she usually didn't need to go past two.

put it this way, it's better that you set you kid straight a few times with a few ass whoopings than to have society straighten your kids out. simple as that, you raise lamer brats and society will take care of them the hardway. although i doubt they'd explain that they still love them in the end like a parent would.
