Yeah, we've apparently known about it since the '50s, but it's still one cool pic. :) Plus, I don't know if the size has always been known.

The is strange enough to make me want to campaign for a new Hubble, with a 100 meter lenses just to get a better look. Screw the multi billion-dollar price tag, any one who objects will be allowed to see the galaxy first hand, after I fire them into orbit with my converted 16/50

hell yeah! and I know how we'll raise the funds... just cancel all those separation operations for guatemalan siamese twins and jack up arms sales to 3rd world nations and reap the revenues, while legalizing Mary J and other forms of dope and taxing the shit out of em, HEH HEH HEH!

it'd be awesome to get bigger hubble. but wouldn't it be better to put that funding into making better spaceships and trying to figure out how a hyperdrive works?

man, hyperdrive is way in the future, if it's even possible. I'm sure there's loads of people here who know more than I do who will be happy to explain to you at length why it wouldn't work in Real Life.

I'm saying it'll take us a long time to figure out how something like it would work. We won't really start working on stuff like that in anything more than theory until we've colonized other planets via sleeper ships or something, and we need some kind of FTL drive to speed up interstellar commerce.

Thanks to governments that care only for money and power, we haven't even gone past the moon, let alone getting FTL drive if it's at all possible.
But I want to go to other galaxies now! NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!

That's 600 million *light-years*, not 600 million Km. 600 million Km is only about 200 light-seconds, or less than the distance from Earth to Mars. Interesting article, though :).

Sorry, that's 2000 light seconds, but it's still much less than the width of the solar system :p.

Man, Do I Feel Stoopid

Thanks, Gravity, I will blame my complete idiocy on the excitement I felt at seeing the thing, but that don't fly, I was a science major, after all.

Oh for the ability to edit the thread...or turn back time...
