Andromeda: a 1.5 billion pixel view.

Saw this on the IFLS website, but I decided to link straight to the actual page. This is an extraordinaly detailed, zoomable picture, you can see tens of thousands of individual stars. Due to the sheer sze of it, it may make 56k modems explode, so be warned.
Yeah, I've always taken the subtext of the Birther movement to be, "The rules don't count here! This is different! HE'S BLACK! BLACK, I SAY! ARE YOU ALL BLIND!?

Destiny and fate are for those too weak to forge their own futures. Where we are 'supposed' to be is irrelevent.

The needle on my boggle-o-meter is now wrapped round the peg.

It took me a little while to realise that, of course, we're most likely not even seeing the full thickness of the spiral arms — just the top few thousand layers on the side facing towards us. I'm trying to zoom in on the core, but it's hard to see anything clearly; just like Poul Anderson's Starfog.

Even more amazing is the idea that someone living near one of those stars is looking right back at us...

I think my brain just suffered a small explosion. That's gorgeous.
Baltar: "I don't want to miss a moment of the last Battlestar's destruction!"
Centurion: "Sir, I really think you should look at the other Battlestar."
Baltar: "What are you babbling about other...it's impossible!"
Centurion: "No. It is a Battlestar."

Corrax Entry 7:17: So you walk eternally through the shadow realms, standing against evil where all others falter. May your thirst for retribution never quench, may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again.
