Ratifiers of the Treay of Tripoli.

Post by The Spartan »

Does anyone know who was in the Senate when the Treaty of Tripoli was read aloud, passed around and then ratified? I've been trying to compile a list of names and I'm having trouble nailing down who was a Senator at the time.

In particular, I'm interested in those that were also signers of the Declaration of Independence and/or the Constitution. I know I can't also leave out John Adams or Thomas Jefferson as President and Vice President.

List at the bottom.

Timothy Bloodworth was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, but was not a signatory to the Declaration or Constitution.

Ditto Dr. Joshua Clayton, and Im sure others. Many were members of the first Continental Congress in 1777.

James Ross helped write the Pennsylvania Constitution, but not the national documents.

Andrew Jackson was in the 5th Congress Senate.

Charles Pinckney was a signatory to the Constitution.

Franklin Davenport was Benjamin Franklin's nephew. /shurg

Richard Stockton's father was a signatory to the Declaration.

Thats all I see.

Thanks. I'll take a look at the names and see what I can turn up.

Oh - ghetto edit:

Thomas Jefferson was the President of the Senate. That's a pretty big one, considering he wrote the Declaration.

I know. I mentioned him in the OP because he was Vice President and, by extension, the President of the Senate.
