I dunno what I am doing getting dragged into these things but now I am talking to a person who believes human consciousness is based on quantum effects.

He supplied some links such as quantum effects are used in photosynthesis and thus in life itself:

Bird retinas directly used quantum effects for navigation, and since the retina is brain tissue this hints that the brain also works on quantum effects:

As far as I know, none of these things prove that consciousness is dependant on quantum effects and something tells me that someone with more knowledge of the area could find other faults with the links here too.

That is really all you need. Electrical signals are used in nerve signaling. That means electrons, which means QM. Duh. But that does not mean that consciousness is a product of it. It is just your garden variety non-sequiter.

Dude, quantum effects are involved when you do anything, simply by virtue of electron movement being required for your body's normal operation. But by that silly argument, I could just as easily say that my bowel movements are based on quantum mechanics.
