THE POPE IS DEAD (good riddance)

Since it is inappropriate to use the POPE IS DEAD (moment of silence) thread to actually say anything negative about the Pope, I'm creating this thread for those who either:
  • Think he was an asshole.
  • Think he wasn't that bad, but are pissed off about the way he's endlessly and effusively worshipped by his lemming followers.
  • Think he was a shitty leader, as demonstrated by the rudderless course it took through the pedophile priest scandals, its failure to take a moral lead on the spread of AIDS/HIV in Africa rather than clinging to dogma, and his swing toward conservatism on other issues such as Protestantism and women in the church.
  • Are just plain sick of the fucking media coverage.
Goddamn, if I hear another person on the radio blubbering about how the Pope touched his or her life, I'm going to throw up.

Should I not find it amusing that Billy Graham was asked to comment on the Pope's death?

In additions to the reasons above, there's also his recent book which claimed homosexuality is the "new ideology of evil". What an ass-hatted statement.

I heard the next pope is supposed to be evil or something.

I'm sick of the coverage already and it's only been 1 day? All the channels on TV are swamped with Pope stuff. Even Discovery which I can usually count on to have American Chopper or Mythbusters is running Pope shit.

The media endlessly drones on aboput shit that doesn't impact me in the slightest:

Laci Peterson-no impact
Terri Schiavo-no impact
Pope-no impact

How about an in depth study of why my son waits till the last minute to take a shit?

Thats relevent, to me anyways.

I suggest leaving the radio off for the next few weeks, and not watching the first 10-15 minutes of the news during the same period. I'm pretty much indifferent towards the whole situation, the pope died, people are going all stupid and gushy, there's a bunch of religious stuff, yay, whatever, I don't care, it's about as important to me as baseball stats, which is to say I find my boogers to be more facinating. But the media attention just pisses me off, and I'm not looking forward to work since I'll have to deal with thousands of grief stricken people at the airport trying to cry on and guilt trip me. I'm almost tempted to take a nice long vacation until it blows over.

Another reminder why I don't watch TV anymore.

Hopefully people will have gotten it mostly out of their systems by Monday because I don't want to have to hear about this shit at work.

My family, who are all Catholic, have been talking about this nonstop for the past couple of days. So it's not just on TV but at home that I have to put up with all this.

Thanks, DW. I was tempted to start this thread myself but didn't want to be screamed at by the Papists from the other thread.
Gee, thanks.
Hey, you should be happy, right? After all, wouldn't they get to go to God and Heaven and stuff?

Anyway, the Pope's probably not evil in the Hitler sense, but he was a bigot and a shitty leader who displayed an inexcusable neglect for humanitarian causes.

You know when you look at Hitlers in context of the RCC beliefs and teachings of the time, he doesn't come out looking evil. Just enthusiastic!

Seriously though, shouldn't Christians be happy when someone dies? They get to go to heaven after all, unless their another denomination. In which case they get the hellfire.

That's beside the point. It is, after all, the thought that counts, and I doubt that's what he had in mind.

I'm not suprised by the media coverage, but it makes me wonder what they'll do when they have nobody that is dying or dead to report on, since reporting actual news is out of the question.

"Viewers are getting tired of our coverage of the Pope's death. Is there anyone else that just died, or might die soon?"

"Not that I am aware of."

"Can we do another report on Nazi mold in school cafeterias?"

"That will take at least three hours to make."

"Shit... I only have one option:"

(Anchorman pulls out gun and shoots intern)

"This just in: A crazed news reporter has just shot a network intern. More on the story as it develops... Apparently, he is starting to smell funny. Now, an analyst will discuss how long it will take before the rats get to him."

If you're sick of hearing about the Pope, consider the fifty statements I had to type up from everyone from Nancy Reagan to Neighbor Bob.

Yeah, guess where I was when the announcement came down.

Ah, so since the inquisitors thought they were saving the souls of non-Christians, we shouldn't hold it against them for torturing people into converting? More of your wonderful Christian logic at work.

I must say that I though the Terry Shriavo case was more interesting and worthy of coverage than the Pope. I really don't wish him ill or anything, I just really don't care about him, his religeon, his church, his theology, or his little pet causes.

My apologies then. In hindsight what I though was good natured army'marine ribbing, could be quite offensive. Especially when I go off on others about soldiers not being psychotic killers.

My sincerest apologies.

It's not you I'm worried about Cpl, don't worry about it.

Iceberg's trolling split. Alyrium's PMSing also split. You've gotta love the irony of two bitches getting mad because I respected the "moment of silence" thread and chose not to participate in it by making this thread instead, for those who felt differently. Apparently, I am no longer allowed to express my opinions on my own fucking board.
