That's really skilled work, the lining and stuff, the fine details. It looks like you're using finer pencils in this one!

Publius, is there any reason for those particular seven?

Also, what is the logic behind red skulls decorations?

The Nine Worthies were cited by Jacques de Longuyon in 1312 as paragons of chivalry from the three eras of world history, pagan (Hector, Alexander the Great, and Julius Caesar), Jewish (Joshua, David, and Judas Maccabeus), and lastly Christian (Arthur, Charlemagne, and Godfrey de Bouillon). A popular theme in Mediaeval art, the Nine Worthies received relatively standardized attributed arms, all of which appear or are hinted at in this particular depiction.

The Red Skull's decorations are intended to suggest that he is essentially the Nazi Party's chief executioner, a kind of prototype of a new kind of National-Socialist warlord meant to oversee and eventually replace the traditional Wehrmacht commanders. He wears the rank of Reichsmarschall and his decorations include theGrand Cross of the Iron Cross, the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Golden Oak-Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds, the Iron Cross 1st Class and 2nd Class, the Honor Roll Clasp of the Army, the Winter Battles in the East 1941-42 Medal, the War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords, the Close Combat Bar in Gold, the Golden Party Badge, the War Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords, Anti-Partisan Badge in Gold with Diamonds, the Wounded Badge 1939 in Gold, the War Order of the German Cross in Gold and in Silver, and the Sharpshooter Badge 3rd Step. The total significance of these decorations is that he is a highly-decorated and experienced killer.

Ah, thank you for that.

It just seems too much for me - he wears nearly every combat and non-combat medal ever created by them, including the special degrees that were almost never issued. In the end, it makes him look too tacky IMO, especially considering he got medal combinations that are almost impossible to pull off.

This particular depiction of the Skull is not actually set during World War II. Like Captain America and Nick Fury, this is the Red Skull as of 2009, having had around 70 years to accumulate his medals, unlike Hermann Göring and Hans-Ulrich Rudel, who had but a few short years. Furthermore, through the vast majority of this time, the Skull had no living immediate superior in the chain of command; the only time he would have been subject to someone else's authority would have been when working with the Hate-Monger, in which circumstances he was essentially playing the parts of Heß, Göring, Himmler, Bormann, and Jodl all combined into a single person. He was, after all, handpicked and trained by Hitler himself to be the Nazi beau ideal; in glorifying the Red Skull, the Führer would in effect be exalting the Movement above the old Prussian elite, which makes him an attractive candidate for recognition (to say nothing of the fact that he is an Übermensch physically on par with Captain America, whose own extraordinary collection of decorations for valor goes generally unquestioned).

^That explains things, especially the 70 years bit. Thank you for explaining, it makes more sense now.

Technically I'd like to point out that the Shelby of the Sutherland as referenced in Deep Space Nine is in fact not the same as BotBW Shelby. Although only going by Pocket Book's continuity where she becomes 1st officer of the Excalibur and later the Captain of the Exeter and then the Trident and then promoted to the Admiral in charge of Space Station Bravo.

Ron D Moore apparently forgot he told pocket books they could use the character when he wrote in the reference to Shelby but as it happens Dax refers to Captain Shelby as 'he' anyway.

Nitpickings aside; it is a very nice peice of artwork. Though the lines you add to people's face often make them look more haggard than usual.

I greatly enjoy your drawings, but sometimes something about them bothers me, and I think I've figured out what it is: the eyes. Often they're just too far apart, and sometimes the shape/size isn't quite right, making them look like they extend too far around the side of the face, or making the face too wide. Rarely, as in your drawing of Dr. McCoy, they are actually misaligned.

Also, I don't know how you feel about requests, but could we get one of Yoshi with a rider? That would be awesome!

I love the fact that these authors sometimes come in all sorts of random varieties. We've got a bunch of sci-fi/fantasy stuff and then, bam, a Will Farrell character from one of his deranged comedy movies.
