Bilbringi
Star Empire of Manticore

As the newest full Captain in the IMN, Elizabeth Seagrace had quite a few worries on her mind. Far from the least of these was the fact that her ship, HIMMS Jade Dragon, was an Imperial escort carrier.

Someone needed to command the lumbering, turbolaser-magnet glorified hangars that formed such a vital part of antipirate and convoy escort operations, but somehow the newly minted Captain Seagrace had always thought it would be someone else. Now, instead of taking the fight to the Rebel scum who'd killed her sister by destroying the ISD Ravager at Endor or bringing order to the galaxy, she was playing nursemaid to 72 half-crazy pilots and 4000 just-barely-competent spacers of His Imperial Manticoran Majesty's Navy.

The stormtrooper detachment was the only real upside, she thought wryly.
"The which is not something a Navy officer says every day, Ma'am." interrupted the ensign assigned to keeping her quarters in order, brushing a speck of dust from the shoulder of the space-black dress uniform hanging in her closet. "That should just about do it, so if you don't need anything, I'll be off to the wardroom, Ma'am?"

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize I'd spoken, Ensign Carol. Yes, you may go; I'll be fine for the rest of the day." A salute saw the young officer out, and Elizabeth sank into the form-fitting chair she'd brought along. It would be a long tour, certainly, but Elizabeth Seagrace, Captain (Junior Grade), was an Imperial officer, and fully intended to have this ship whipped into shape by the end of the month.

Coronet City, Corellia
Speech from His Imperial Corellian Majesty, Emperor Aeron Bell:

"Citizens of Corellia! I come before you today to announce the rebuilding of Corellian habitation on Gus Talon. This new colony, to be named New Gus Talon Station, will begin construction and is slated to be completed by the end of this year. Fifteen years ago, Palpatine's despostic regime destroyed the entire station due to the actions of but a few rebels. The building of New Gus Talon Station marks yet another step in the process of rebuilding the galaxy, and repairing the damage done by the vile Sith Lord who, through treachery and deceit, caused so much pain to so many."

Communique from the Second Corellian Empire to the Imperial Remnant

This is to confirm and make a matter of record the invitation to His Excellency, Lord Nahdonnis Praji, Head of House Praji, Governor-General of Kaikielius, Foerost and Ruan, Marshal of the Galactic Empire, relayed by the Naval attache of the Corellian Embassy on Ord Cantrell. His Excellency is invited to visit the Second Corellian Empire, and to speak at the Corellian Naval Staff College, at a date to be determined. This invitation is offered by Admiral Teren Rogriss, Imperial Corellian Navy and member of His Majesty's personal staff.

Ord Cantrell
Imperial Strategic Command

Vice-Admiral Thanas entered the Imperial War Room and was once more awestruck by it. It had been the brainchild of Marshal Praji. A circular room, easily more than 200 meters in diameter, the war room housed countless computer terminals on more than six levels. In the middle of the ground level, a large holoprojector was installed. This was the brain of the Imperial Military. From here, thanks to the holonet, a commander could wage war on several fronts simultaneously. At the push of a button, fleets would move, troops would assemble and planetary defences would be activated. From here, every single ship of the navy down to the smallest fighter squadron could be commanded. Similar rooms had been built on Kaikielius, Bakura, Nez Peron and Axum, but as the current seat of the Council, only the one on Ord Cantrell had ultimate authority at the moment.

As had been standard procedure for the last few days in which they had met, a lieutenant soon whisked him away into one of the private conference rooms, where Praji, Jir and Mirith Sinn were already waiting for him. The Lieutenant then excused himself, leaving the three commanders to themselves. After greetings were exchanged, the holoprojector was activated, showing Rear-Admiral Tavira standing in the holoprojector ring in her private quarters. “Marshal, Marshal, Admiral, Commander – Salutations.” Thanas did not pretend to greet her in return, nor did he notice the bitter glance she shot in his directions, yet her voice was as oily and silky as always. Command of the Invidious had apparently made her regain her usual arrogance. Praji nodded, curtly. “Tavira. Let us proceed. Commander Sinn, what about the intelligence gained from Durga and Grappa?” Sinn had carried out a small offensive, using the newly built Decimators for hit and run strikes. “I am afraid it is not worth much anymore. The pirates were quick – all of the bases we hit recently were almost abandoned or in the process of evacuation – we did not do much damage. I am afraid all we gained from the Hutts is operational knowledge of how they structure their pirate operations, but nothing solid.”

Praji nodded. “Then, let's go over convoy operations. I think we have come up with a plan. Vice-Admiral?”

Thanas nodded. “Yes. We need to secure approximately 13 tradelanes – and I do not have the ships for it. Thus, I recommend the following – strip the Ord Cantrell fleet of its Nebulon – Bs and the Core Fleet of their lancers. I need them for convoy defence. I understand that the Core fleet* will receive all new Carracks constructed last year, but I would like to use the Strike Cruiser Red Nova, the Assault Frigate Fastblast as well as the four VSDII we built last year. All have completed retraining. Needless to say, the ships that were damaged in the fight against Tavira and have been repaired by the Republic of Haven will return to the Bakuran Navy. I'd further ask for all the Decimators you can give me.”

(*OOC: With core fleet I mean the Imperial Remnant core fleet as outlined in my OOB, not the fleet assigned to Coruscant)

Praji nodded, considering the problems this would cause for the Core fleet. For the majority of those forces were what was considered to be the anti-starfighter protection for the Remnant fleet assigned to protecting the core. Still, he considered the ramifications of no convoy protection – the Remnant needed the trade to survive. Without it, the economy would collapse. So he nodded. “Very well. You shall have what you need. Now, please present your plan.”

Thanas nodded. “Yes, Sir. The trade lanes that need protection are the following, and these are the ships tasked to protecting them.
Spoiler
Star Empire of Manticore (Master_Baerne) - 1 Neb-B frigate, 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
Kuat Imperium (Fingolfin) - 1 Lancer frigate, 2 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
Bothan Confederacy (Karmic Knight) - 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
TSAB (Agent Scorchus) - 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
League Militaire (Soryu) - 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
Corellia (RogueIce) – 1 Neb-B frigate, 1 Lancer frigate, 2 Assassin corvettes
Republic of Haven (Beowulf) - 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
Neimoidia (Darthkommandant) - 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
Concordat Alliance (Coyote) - 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
Gordian Dominion (SiegeTank) - 1 Neb-B frigate, 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Decimator
Cultural Union (Serafina) - Strike cruiser Red Nova, 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 2 Decimators
Golden Republic (Kartr_Kana)- 1 Neb-B frigate, 1 Lancer frigate, 1 Assassin corvette, 1 Decimator
Federal Republic of Nysacia (Darth Raptor) – 1 VSDII, 4 Assassin corvettes
Rim Alliance – 1 VSDII
“As you can see, our heavy units are poised at tradelanes most crucial to us or most at risk. For example, the trade to the Federal Republic of Nysacia is heavily protected due to the aid shipments we receive from them. The Rim Alliance will be assigned one VSDII because they asked for a heavy ship and they have promised to field a large number of smaller ships to protect the Ysalamiri trade. Other than that, we are mostly concentrating on protecting our trade routes to our allies.”

Thanas paused a moment before continuing. “2 VSDII will bolster the defence fleet of Bakura and free up some units for escorting convoys from Bakura to the core. This will not be a huge problem. As we recently constructed a supply base at Ryloth, we can use the system as a staging area. The installation of a planetary shield has also cut down the need for a fleet stationed there. Thus, I propose a flying column attached to escorting convoys to and from Ryloth, composed of the following units:
Spoiler
2 VSDII
Assault Frigate Fastblast
3 Vindicator class cruisers
2 Carrack cruisers
5 Assassin Class Corvettes
Cr-90 corvette Backstab
“This unit will also carry out strikes against pirates if able and otherwise protect the Ryloth system. It shall be attached to random convoys.”

Jir nodded grimly and then spoke what everyone was already thinking. “This is pitiful. In the old days, your flying column was considered barely adequate protection for convoys of this magnitude. We need more escort ships. You can't expect to be able to defend around 100 freighters per convoy with just three or four ships.”

Thanas nodded. “I agree. Which is why I do not understand why our biggest shipyards will be once more dedicated to building large warships instead of escort ships.” Praji cut the discussion short. “Yes. We need more large ships. We have an empire to defend and unlike the sith, we do not have just five systems lying close to one another. And given that we just lent three Star Destroyers to the Cultural Union, we need to fill the gaps. But do not worry, for I imagine the Cultural Union will soon agree to a very profitable deal. In any case, any pirates attacking our convoys will soon face a very unpleasant surprise. Tavira?”

“I was wondering when you were going to let me speak,” Tavira drawled. “The Invidious is ready to shadow any pirate fleet to their point of origin and then destroy it.”

Praji nodded. “Good.”

Cultural Union
Diplomatic skyhook

Captain Hunt bowed and handed over a datapad regarding the various treaty propositions that had been forwarded to him by the Lady D'Asta's office to the head of the Outer Contact Bureau, Rina Fio. “My Lady, I hope the final form of this treaty will be acceptable to you.”
Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and exchange in military matters

Research
1. The Imperial Remnant will conduct reasearch and weapons testing on the design plans for the so-called Providence-II class heavy cruiser. It will use one of its research station for this purpose and will aim to prove the feasibility of the preliminary design plans made by the Cultural Union.
2. The Imperial Remnannt will pay for all Research costs (OOC: 40 Points)
3. Once completed, the design will be the sole intellectual property of the Cultural Union. The Imperial Remnant may not sell or provide in any other form those plans to any third Party.

Imperial Officer exchange program
The Imperial Academy, situated on Anaxes, will accept a yet to be determined number of Cultural Union fleet officers for a training exchange program of at least two years time.

Arms deal
1. In exchange for the above-mentioned deed, the Cultural Union will construct for the Imperial Remnant the following ships:
- 2 Strike-class cruisers
- 12 Nebulon-BII frigates
2. All ships will be delivered as soon as they are ready. This means the following:
- Month 6: 6 Nebulon BII frigates
- Month 8: 2 Strike Cruisers
- Month 12: 6 Nebulon BII frigates
Hunt bowed once more, awaiting the reply of the Cultural Union Minister.

News roundup
The Imperial Times
Newspaper for Coruscant, Anaxes and Axum.

The new budget
The Imperial Ruling council today unvealed the budget for the next year.

Coruscant reconstruction financed by over 35%
Feena D'Asta, Gaeriel Captison and Moff Saenger today announced a massive investment in reconstruction on Coruscant. According to the current budget, Coruscant's reconstruction efforts would be financed to up to 35%. “This is a massive step forward to reconstructing Coruscant.”, Prime Minister Captison said. Moff Saenger meanwhile brushed aside concerns of the Remnant needing to expand their industrial base in order to fund the rest of Coruscant's recovery. “There can be no doubt that we need more industrial basis, but at the moment this is not necessary yet.”

The industrial areas on Coruscant will receive the majority of the funds. This was also signified by the new shipyard construction. Under the current expansion plan, the Imperial Engineering Corps will construct one 8000m shipyard and two 1200m shipyard around Coruscant. It is expected that this will ensure a great number of new jobs on Coruscant.

Relief funds generously provided by the Federal Republic of Nysacia and the Etti Theocracy were also named as reasons for the current rebuilding of Coruscant. The Lady Feena D'Asta proceeded to thank both nations and said that the Remnant could not have done this without them.

Anaxes reconstruction going strong
The office of Moff Saenger announced today that the reconstruction of Anaxes was proceeding according to plan and that reconstruction would be finished in less than half a decade...

Axum shipyards receiving large orders
The shipyards at Axum and Anaxes have received orders making sure that they will be fully occupied over the year.

The Kaikielian Herold

Expansion of the Imperial military planned

The new budget can only be seen as a political victory for our Lord Protector, His excellency the Field Marhal Nahdonnis Praji, IRC, Governer-General of Kaikielius, Foerost and Ruan. As the Herold has learned, Lord Praji succeeded with his plan for rebuilding the Imperial Fleet.

According to the new budget, The Imperial Navy will expand by a total of two Tector-class Star Destroyers, four Immobilizer cruisers, sixteen Carrack-class Cruisers, four Assassin-class corvettes and thirty-six VT-49 Decimator-class Assault ships. The shipyards at Foerost will be occupied with constructing a great deal of those ships.

The Imperial Ruling Council also approved of the construction of new research bases and funded the research of the new Perditor-class battle carrier and the Procursator-class Star Destroyer, thus ensuring the Imperial Remnant will keep ahead of the technological curve. We have also learnt that he was instrumental in securing the new shipyard construction at Coruscant.

We can only thank our Lord Protector for continuing to keep us safe.

The Nez Peron Gazette
Newspaper of Record for the D'Astan Sector and Baramorra

Leena D'Asta welcomed by the people of Baramorra
The Lady Leena D'Asta has been welcomed by the elders of Baramorra. Making a speech in the central square of the capital city, the Lady D'Asta proclaimed that the Imperial Remnant would punish all involved with the reign of terror perpetrated by the former ruler of Baramorra, “Boss” Banjeer. She also announced that the Imperial Ruling Council had approved of the construction of one planetary shield network and one Golan III defence platform around Baramorra, thereby ensuring that no tyrant would ever touch Baramorra again.

D'Astan shipyards receiving full orders
The D'Astan shipyards received orders for several large ships, among them a Tector-class destroyer. D'Astan shipyards, the galaxy's leading producer of small craft, also received a contract for 36 VT-49 Decimator-class assault ships.

The Guardian
Newpaper of record for Bakura

Editor's opinion
The Imperial budget highlights a crucial step for the evolution of the militaristic Imperial step into a more modern one. That is the sentence I would have liked to write. Instead, the budget is a compromise, a middle ground. We should not forget that although the council approved of more money for reconstruction, the amounts of wealth put aside for the production of shipyards and weaponry is still slightly more than the amount of treasure spent on the future. I am of course proud of our Bakuran Navy, which received four new Victory-II class Star Destroyers this year, but I wish they would not be needed.

Nevertheless, this budget may very well be a victory for Prime Minister Captison, considering how one-sided and militaristic the last budget was. Only the next budget will tell whether Prime Minister Captison has the political pull to turn the Empire into an enlightened state once again.

In any case, as Prime Minister Captison is up for reelection next year, the budget for the next year might be crucial to her personal future as well......

Nal Hutta

Captain Drea Renthal prevented the latest plan to Durga the Hutt. It called for a massive coalition of pirate forces, indirectly funded by the Hutts, to intrude in the territory of the forming nations. If the Hutts could not prevent the formation of new nations, maybe they could hinder it as much as possible. The longer they could reap the profits unchecked by stronger powers, the greater the profit.

Captain Renthal would make sure all pirate's ships were non-tracable. All ships would be fitted with special devices to prevent their capture, though of course the pirate's crewing them would not know about those. Durga approved of the plan and Renthal started to build the new pirate coalition.

Results:
- The Hutts are scheming.
- If you want to get in on some pirate action, sent a PM to Thanas. This means, your convoys will get attacked and you then have a chance to kill some pirates or destroy some pirate bases. If there are no volunteers, the mods will randomly select a few victims.
This is the official sockpuppet for the NPCs of the SW: A Galaxy Divided STGOD

Ord Cantrell
Imperial Ruling Council Private Medical facility

Pter Thanas had always hated Doctors, for in his mind he did not need them. He had never been a sickly child and could bear pain quite well. Without Gaeriel's prodding and him not wishing to add to her stress he would have probably ignored the recurring pain in his left arm. So when the Doctor gave him the diagnosis of Knowt's Disease, he was pretty much floored. And Gaeriel's face when the diagnosis was announced broke his heart.

After the two had recovered, Gaeriel once more was all business. Thanas knew that this was her usual way of coping, so he let her take the lead. “What is the prognosis?” The Doctor, a white-haired, gruff man who had formerly been the head of the Coruscant medical university, frowned. “Madam, as you can see, Knowt's disease is a degenerative ailment that destroys tissue. In a way, though, you can count yourself lucky.” Seeing the look on Gaeriel's face, he quickly added. “If your husband had not been subjected to so much stress, the disease would not have progressed as fast and we would not have been able to find it until it would have been to late. At the moment, the illness is still contained in his left arm.” “So you can save him?” Gaeriel tried and failed to keep out the note of hope in her voice.

The physician sighed. “Well...no. Not here anyway.” “Why not?” “Madam, we lost nearly all medical industries on Coruscant. Anaxes, Axum – they never specialized on mechanical replacements.” Sensing that Gaeriel was close to cracking, Thanas took over and steadied his wife with one hand. “I know that Bakurans are masters at organ replacements.” The Doctor nodded. “Yes, they are. I agree, Bakura is the best choice. I'll transfer all records to them.”

After they had thanked the doctor, the two proceeded to contact the Bakuran medical facility via holonet. The head administrator there, however, could not help them. As the administrator explained, Knowt's disease required so very specialised mechanical replacements that he would rather not trust them to some second-rate specialists, and the best specialists the Bakuran's had never specialized in Knowt's disease as native Bakurans apparently were immune to them. Of course, Thanas was not a native Bakuran.

By now, the next Ruling Council meeting had been announced and the Thanasae went to explain the problem to them.

Imperial Ruling Council

“.....and as you can see, this will require having a large part of my body replaced by mechanics. I will also surrender my current duties.” The reaction of the council had been largely sympathetic, for Knowt's Disease was the kind of ailment people would only wish on Siths.

Ragez D'Asta nodded. “My sympathies, Admiral, Prime Minister. What can be done?” Gaeriel stood. “We need to secure droid specialists. Moff Saenger, you are our technology expert, what do you suggest?” Saenger looked lost for a second until Guri leaned over and whispered something in his ear. “Ah...yes. The Cultural Union has great droid technology, however they are still an offshoot of the Neimoidians. I suggest we go directly to the source. Our own project at Axum is making great progress...maybe in a few years we could fix this ourselves, but I guess we do not have that long.” Thanas shook his head.

“Then it is decided”, the Baron interjected. “Marshal Jir will take over your duties. And we will provide the funds necessary. Is there anything else?”

Feena D'Asta stood. “We have received the following communiqué:

Lord Praji stood. “As we all know, there is no need for approval of council members visiting other states. Indeed, I am perfectly entitled to go and talk to whoever I wish. I will accept the invitation.”

The Baron did notice the quick glances passed between his daughters, Sinn and Saenger and then, non-surprisingly, Feena chose to continue. “I wish you success with your trip, Marshal. Might I suggest you also pursue the issue of escort ships?”

Praji nodded curtly. “Thank you, I most definitely will.”

With this, the meeting was concluded. The two D'Astan daughters, Mirith Sinn, Moff Saenger and Guri remained behind. “Does anybody know anything about this?” Sinn shrugged. “Beats me. It might just be an innocuous visit.” But with Praji involved, nobody of the group really believed this.

Coronet City, Corellia
Emperor Aeron Bell was alone in his study, when the door was opened by the CorSec officer assigned to his protection. "Your Majesty, Admiral Rogriss is here," said the Inspector.

"Send him in please."

Admiral Teren Rogriss marched in the door, and after it was closed behind him saluted. "Reporting as ordered, sir." It was not, technically, how an Admiral of the Imperial Navy would normally present oneself to the Emperor. And indeed, had this been a public circumstance, Rogriss would have reported differently. But here, in the privacy of Bell's study, the Admiral reported as he would to a superior officer.

"At ease, Admiral. What have you to report?"

"We've received word from the Remnant, sir." Rogriss handed a datapad with the communique displayed on the main screen:
Thanas wrote:Communique to the Second Corellian Empire

Fellow allies.
I accept your invitation and will arrive on my personal ship, the ISDII Stormfront within two weeks time.

Signed,
Lord Nahdonnis Praji, Head of House Praji, Governor-General of Kaikielius, Foerost and Ruan, Marshal of the Galactic Empire
"Details are being worked out between the liasons. As a brief overview, I've recommended the Stormfront have an entry vector that gives them an excellent view of the shipyards. And Kalidor Wing's TIE Defenders will be on hand to form an honor guard around the Destroyer, as well as Marshal Praji's shuttle itself when he's ready to land. Naturally, there will be a greeting formation for the Marshal; In addition to the Marines, Army, Starfighter Command and Navy personnel present, I was hoping to have a pair of AT-ATs also be on hand.

"He will of course be scheduled to speak at the Naval Staff College, and be given a tour of the shipyards as per his official program to visit. Additionally, it was hoped that you would find time in your schedule in order to discuss certain other matters."

Bell nodded. He knew that first and foremost, there would likely be some inquiries as to shipbuilding for the Remnant. While no official word had been sent, the Naval Attache indicated that there was an interest amongst the Remnant's government to procure Corellian-built ships. Bell knew Rogriss had also intended to discuss the fates of the Imperial I Star Destroyers due to be replaced by the two Tector-class Star Destroyers presently being built. Taking a key from what they'd heard concerning the leasing of Remnant warships to the Culutural Union, it was hoped that the two Destroyers might also continue to serve not just the Empire but the CORE Alliance in forging stronger ties with another power.

"I will of course make time to visit with our distinguished guest," Bell said aloud. "Keep me informed as the details are finalized, please."

"Of course, sir. Additionally, we have a final draft plan for Operation Sky Strike. Given the intended discretion inherent in the plan, we have modified it to take place concurrently with the Marshal's visit. Hopefully the media attention Marshal Praji attracts will help to hide the fleet deployments."

Bell again nodded his acceptance of this news. He knew Rogriss had wanted to lead the attack himself, but the Admiral's presence was required during Marshal Praji's visit; since Admiral Rogriss had been the one to formally extend the invitation, his presence would certainly be noticed, not to mention be a breach of protocol. However, Rogriss has decided that not only would delaying the operation be unnecessary, it would also help to cover the missing ships involved, as the focus would be on Praji, not the Corellian fleet. At least, that was the plan.

"Is there anything else, Admiral?"

"No sir, not at this time." Reforming to the position of attention, Admiral Rogriss once more rendered a salute. "Permission to withdraw?"

"Very well, Admiral. Thank you for the update."

Results
The Corellian Empire prepares for Praji's visit, and a few details of things that will transpire will be revealed. Of course, other things may also happen during the Marshal's visit to Corellia: you'll just have to stay tuned and find out!

Also, Operation Sky Strike mentioned. What could it be...?

Office of the President

Zhovan Andrak rubbed his temples slightly, pausing momentarily to sip from his mug of Chandrilan herbal tea. It was mid day, and soon Senator Juntaal would be here to discuss matters important to Vladet and growing fears regarding the Jedi. Juntaal was a true reformist, and although he was officially a friend, ever since the Republic had formed, the man Zhovan thought he knew had noticeably changed.

"Mr. President, Senator Juntaal is here to see you," the voice of his secretary came across the intercom and interrupted him.

"Very well, send him in." President Andrak replied, setting aside the tea and rising to greet Juntaal. The senator was a larger man, both in height and girth, but Andrak was built excellently, even at forty four years of age, and he measured well against the other in photographs.

They shook hands heartily, Juntaal's booming voice punctuating the matter, "Ah, President Andrak, always a pleasure to see my old friend and ally in Rachuk's political arena." Andrak thought briefly to the times they had worked together, when Andrak was a representative for Commenor, and Juntaal had been on several advisory committees for Vladet. They had both often spearheaded committees that worked out many treaties between the two worlds, everything from trade to extradition. Indeed, many political commentators have said that the treaties their committees ironed out were part of the reason the formation of the Republic possible. For Andrak, though, it simply felt odd - that was nearly a decade ago, and the man he had spent many late nights and in-depth conversations with a decade prior no longer seemed to be present.

"So, what do you need me from me Senator Juntaal? What's the honor today? More concerns over the flag of the Republic?" Andrak laughed, recalling the dispute Vladet had filed regarding the christening of the Republic's flag. While respected by many, Vladet's senators felt the flag did not give proper homage to their planet. Vladet, after all, did serve as the sector capital for Rachuk during both the Empire and Republic. They suggested denoting it in a different color, although the matter was quickly dropped from discussion in the House and Senate.

"No, not quite, my old friend." Juntaal smiled, broad white teeth showing as he sat across from the President. "I'm sure, despite your humor, you were briefed on why I'm here." Andrak grimaced internally, the J-word was about to come up, and he knew it, even before the joke. But Juntaal continued, "As you're no doubt aware, President Andrak, Vladet has contributed much to this newly formed Republic. And while your leadership has been quite admirable these first two years, I'm afraid there are growing concerns about your friendliness with the... Jedi." Juntaal emphasized the last word with a sense of pretentiousness that made Andrak want to punch him.

"Yes, Senator Juntaal, an adviser briefed me that there's been a bit of concern about the recent assignment of two military vessels to the Jedi. But nothing too notable, typical grumbling from the usual blowhards. Par for the course, really." Andrak countered Juntaal's opening line evenly, looking the man firmly in the eye.

The brown iris's of Juntaal's face shied away from direct contact, preferring to look at a painting in the distance, before returning to Andrak's vicinity. "Your adviser is mistaken then, as both my party, and fellow senators from Vladet are very concerned about the Jedi. We wonder how you can trust them, President? Especially given their history..." Juntaal emphasized the last word with his familiar pretentiousness but Andrak managed his emotions better this time around.

"Master Ardek is a good friend of mine, and has been for many years. I trust him because I've known him since childhood, and the Jedi Order has done nothing to lose that trust of recent note. Even you, and your fellow senators, must agree." The President said.

Juntaal shrugged, nodding for a moment, before resettling in his passive aggressive questioning posture. "No doubt, they have not done anything to lose our trust yet, but we are concerned that they will. And that when they do break our trust, it will be too late to do anything about it." He added, brushing a piece of lint from his clothing.

"I don't agree with the assessment that they'll break our trust, and frankly, I feel like I could spend my time on more important things then squabbling about a group of individuals who are vital to the Republic's future." Andrak replied, flatly.

Juntaal noted the agitation, but he pursued, this time with another line of argument. His tone never differed or changed, and he did not let Andrak read his emotions. A skilled politician controls his opponents, Juntaal had learned such a lesson early on. "Putting the issue of their trust aside, what of their notability? Don't you think that having the Jedi here makes us vulnerable? Certainly they have adversaries who will be attracted to their presence and wish to wage war on any who occupy them. Will you endanger the Republic's citizens, especially for a cause that you believe is vital, although you cannot defend why it is so?" Juntaal posed the question, without his usual tone, he was almost pleading now.

"The Jedi were the guardians of the Old Republic for twenty five thousand years, and their presence in our far smaller Republic is an asset that is hard to quantify. Whether it's their insight, their willingness to embark on causes to aid our member worlds, or the protection they offer with their skills in combat - we, and the people of this Republic, gain much by keeping them in our tenure." Andrak stated, mustering the firmness he was known for.

"All right, Mr. President, it appears this discussion is decidedly one sided..." Juntaal peered at the other man, smiling faintly. "So I will move on to other matters for now, but I caution you. The Jedi are being watched very carefully. And it would be very unfortunate..." Juntaal paused, feigning the appearance of concern for his friend. "If something problematic arose with the Jedi. It could have disastrous consequences on your re-election chances. And that would be quite unfortunate, wouldn't it?" Juntaal flashed his familiar smile again, before resuming his normal expression. He looked at the President, and waited for a reply.

"That's a risk I'll have to take." Andrak replied. And soon they ventured into other business for the day.

Chasin City, Commenor
Ministry of Defense, Commander's Conference Room

There were fifteen of them total, including the Minister of Defense himself. The five fleet admirals from the Navy, seven generals from each of the member worlds, the two generals of the star fighter corps, and finally, the Commandant of the Marine Corps. They had been unofficially nicknamed the "War Council", but Minister Proden found the opinions of the leaders of his military forces in valuable. They met at least once a week to discuss matters of policy and procurement, and Proden found the conferences far more refreshing than the daily security briefings he attended with the President.

"Gentlemen, as your no doubt aware, we recently received contact from both the Imperial Remnant, and The "Great" Cultural Union of the Galactic Core. They have both sought a trade agreement, and the politicians have agreed to it. But since the security briefing didn't cover it much, I want to discuss our state of readiness. I forwarded all of you the available intelligence reports on both of these factions, so hopefully you're all well read. What are your thoughts?" As Minister Proden finished speaking, a holographic display sprung to life behind him. The galaxy was brought to life, and the territories of both the Imperial Remnant and the Culural Union were highlighted.

"To be honest, sir, if we're going to be signing trade pacts and assigning escorts, I think we should construct a dedicated escort fleet. I've already lost four Corona-class frigates from my detachment to protect our trade routes with both of these factions, and I don't appreciate the strain that places on my men and our readiness." Fleet Admiral Rukar, the man in charge of the 5th Fleet, blurted out.

The Minister nodded, "Indeed, that is a concern. And I'll speak with the President about asking the House and Senate to allow us to procure additional craft for escort duty. But I'm more concerned about the threat to our territories these nations pose. What's your evaluation of their military strength?"

Fleet Admiral Sygn of the 2nd Fleet spoke, "Sir, I don't think we have much to worry about from the Cultural Union, at least at present. Assuming the intelligence is accurate, their fleet is largely composed of older Confederacy of Independent Systems ships, not many of which are a match for our Republic-class or even Majestic-class cruisers. Furthermore, while conditions could easily change in a few months, they don't have anything comparable to our Nebula-class Star Destroyer. Their territory is located in the Deep Core, which isn't that far from us, but they don't strike me as very aggressive. I'd be more concerned about the Remnant."

The Minister turned towards the holograph of the galaxy, and studied it for a moment. "Yes, indeed. Our old friends the Empire. What's the consensus on the Remnant?"

"Ugly, sir, very ugly, depending on what we're dealing with." This time, Admiral Duruk joined the discussion, he was the leader of the third fleet. "While we are more than capable of dealing with an equally matched force, there are many Remnant factions that when put together, outnumber our military assets considerably. As for this particular faction, our military forces are about equal to theirs. They might have a slight numerical advantage, but our technology is quite advanced, and we could keep up with anything they'd throw at us. Now, if they, and a few of their friends throw something at us... well, it won't be pretty, sir." Duruk said.

The Minister looked at the Remnant's territory, "I suppose not. Let's assume a hypothetical, gentlemen, what if we're invaded by multiple Imperial factions, what do we do?"

"Pray the damn Jedi pull something out of their ass," Admiral Rukar grumbled, and the entire room, save for the Minister, burst into laughter. After a few moments, things returned to normal, and Admiral Duruk stood up to motion to the chart.

"Well, this is all dependent on numbers, but the one advantage we have is that all of our territories, except for Darek are on a primary hyperspace lane. So we're able to mass our fleet relatively quickly. Secondly, our most important worlds in terms of industrial and economic strength are heavily fortified and shielded. Nothing, not even a hundred ships is going to break through Commenor's shielding, unless they bring in a star dreadnought or other heavy hitting device. Vladet, Hensara III, and Damoria are all shielded enough to hold out until help arrives. While we'd probably lose the naval engagement, we could inflict significant losses before it turned into a ground battle, and really, that's for one of the General's to elaborate on." Duruk finished, looking to the commander of Commenor's ground forces, General Okir.

Okir started as Duruk took his seat again, looking to them all. "Our ground forces are well prepared for any invasion, all of our key worlds have over a million ground troops stationed for defense. Our colony worlds and Chorax are not nearly as well prepared, but neither are their naval assets. It would take several months of fighting for their ground forces to claim the surface, although if they decided to Base Delta Zero the surface, as the Empire is known for - well, there's not much we can do about that, sir."

Kogar, another general, spoke, "Our best bet is really a diplomatic option, we need to find other factions with our similar ideas, other splinter New Republic factions, really. If we can secure treaties with them, that puts less pressure on our navy to handle the workload. That's a job for the politicians, though, not the military."

The Minister nodded, "Indeed, that's something we all can agree on. Thank you, gentlemen. Good day." And with that, the "war council" disassembled.

Planetary voice communication between President Andrak and Representative Chullun, Speaker of the House
(midway through...)

PRESIDENT ANDRAK: Yes, I'm leery of signing a trade agreement with the Remnant myself, Representative Chullun, but this could mean not only income for our Republic, but the paving of a new wave of relations. I don't trust the Empire, and I doubt I ever will, but we stand nothing to lose by signing this agreement, and a lot to gain.

REPRESENTATIVE CHULLUN: We could alienate our base, people still remember what the Empire did during the times of Vader and Palpatine, and even recently - their warmongering led to the destruction of the New Republic. They're not trustworthy, Mr. President, and this is probably trickery.

PRESIDENT ANDRAK: And what's the alternative? We don't sign the trade pact and ignore their attempts to reach out? It's true the Empire is despicable, and they are certainly warmongers, but this is a different game and the distinctions aren't black and white. If no one is willing to put forth an effort to establish peaceful relations, they'll never occur. They took the initiative, and we need to respond. Besides, it's not as if they represent the Empire as a whole, they're just a faction, and maybe they've changed.

REPRESENTATIVE CHULLUN: I hope you're right, Mr. President.

PRESIDENT ANDRAK: I do too.

Ord Cantrell
Imperial Ruling Council Meeting

This meeting was extraordinarily short. Captison was only in attendence via hologram, as she spent as much time as possible with her husband. If D'Asta's estimate of the situation was correct, the Vice-Admiral had been prohibited by his wife from taking any part.

Marshal Jir and Lord Praji were also only represented by their projections, as Praji was already at Kaikielius preparing for his trip. Jir had taken over for VADM Thanas and was now stationed at Bakura. A commander of the 501st commanding Bakuran, formerly Rebel, forces. Highly amusing, Ragez D'Asta remarked to himself.

His daughter Feena was once more the one who had called the meeting and had proceeded to lead the discussion, with his consent of course.

"..and the Neimoidians have agreed to help us. Their specialists are on their way, we hope that they can help us." Gaeriel's form breathed a sigh of relief at those news while Feena continued.

"Then there is the matter of the Rachuk Republic. They are a nation that has recently decided to reenter the galactic stage. We have entered the standard trade negotiations with them and they have accepted. Hopefully, they are not as revanchist as the Sullustans were. I'll therefore will visit them soon and hopefully establish a proper raport with their leaders."

D'Asta nodded. Maybe we should better send Captison, but she is not in any state to conduct diplomatic talks right now., the Baron thought, remembering his behaviour when his wife was dieing. "Very well. Take our personal fleet to Commenor."

The meeting was concluded and Feena prepared to leave when she noticed Saenger and Sinn approaching her. "Please take Guri and Mirith with you, Feena." Feena noticed the concern in his voice and swallowed whatever retort she had been about to volley at him. "Mirith, what about your work here?" "I can work on the Fealty, provided we drop out of hyperspace to get a holonet connection every two hours. And the people of the Republic might better respond to me than to you." Feena nodded, seeing the wisdom in her friend's words. After all, a former Rebel commando was exactly the sort of person rabid republcans tended to respond positively to. Or at least until they heard that Mirith Sinn, former Rebel commander of planetary insurrection cells, was now heading Imperial Intelligence.

"Very well."

"You see, Tyla? More and more republicans come crawling out of the woodwork." Tyla Praji nodded and took the offered arm of her father. "Of course, father. But let us talk of more pleasant things. What about Corellia? Will I get to inspect the museums? And the art galleries?"

Lord Praji nodded. "Yes." Though he hated art, he had always found it impossible to resist his daughter. She was now sixteen and still managed to make him do almost anything.

"Come. The Stormfront is waiting."

Mirial

Image

The ancient polis-world of Mirial was burning. Within its horizon-spanning cities fires raged as far as the eye could see. Wars raged in the streets, killing thousands every hour. Enormous ancient starscrapers were shattered by orbital bombardment or artillery fire that reduced buildings that had stood for hundreds of years to rubble in a heartbeat. Something that had started as a political conflict had, through forces unknown and previously unheard of, escalated into a torrent of violence that threatened to consume a once-prominent world that had been at the very heart of local cluster politics.

Perhaps even worse, the conflict threatened to spread along the trade lines Mirial had been a part of for millennia. Already skirmishes had broken out on three agriworlds as hot-headed sympathizers of unionists or isolationists came to blows. This matter couldn't be allowed to continue for much longer, lest it consume the entire star cluster.

Image

The Doomgiver-class assault carriers of the Spacy's Strategic Involvement Reserve came out of hyperspace in high orbit over Mirial, completely surprising what little was left of the planet's spaceborne early warning grid. Escorting them were the ships of the Flying Squadron, aided by a host of additional escorts and capital ships drawn from the Ord Radama and Khar Shian sector fleets. At the command of the unflappable Commodore Liz Theron the ships began launching fighters even as they assumed a picture-perfect escort formation, guarding the carriers from optimal angles even as they moved into drop trajectories.

Soon enough drop pods and landing craft began raining down in and around the capital city. Two orbital monitors belonging to the isolationist faction attempted to interdict against them, but were easily swatted out of the sky by the heavy guns of the Inside Curve, Theron's flagship. On the ground, the conflict intensified as the unionists, heartened by the appearance of the Dominion forces in the system, threw themselves against their isolationist adversaries with renewed zeal. And within the capital city, the troops and tanks of the 1st through 4th heavy Dominion Army divisions began moving toward their objectives, obliterating any resistance in their way through judicious employment of superior firepower.

The first interstellar intervention by the Gordian Dominion had begun.

Post by The Romulan Republic »

(OOC: this post deals with events that would have already happened some time in the last year, but I'm including it now both to reconcile certain changes I've had to make to my OOB regarding the size and importance of some of my worlds and to set up events in my next post, which will be put up probably later today.)

Kossan strode down the corridors towards the Council Chamber, flanked by the usual crowd of aids, advisors, and state holonews reporters. They were now joined by a new and welcome sight: reporters for the first private holonet company to be established in Alliance space since the collapse of the Empire and the Republic. The media attention was perhaps inconvieniant, but thouroughly justified by the events that would transpire today. Today, the Council was convening to vote upon granting full member world status (and accordingly full voting rights on the Council) to the worlds of Dantooine and Kessel. The matter had been viciously debated for the last few days, but provided Tatooine and Myrkyr voted as expected, it was all but accomplished fact now, despite the bitter obstructionist behavior of the Geonosian delegation.

Kossan’s face twisted slightly at the memory. Hard words had been had in the Council, especially between the Geonoisan and Myrkyr delegations, whose bitter rivalry had not lessened after Myrkyr gained official member world status. On the contrary, Geonosis was infuriated that its influence had fallen from the tie-breaking power on a Council with only three voting members, to only one of many equals as worlds it perceived as minor backwaters were granted full member status. However, the Geonosians were only one vote. Kamino would side with them as usual, but Kossan was confident that Tattooine would vote his way, and probably Myrkyr would as well. Which meant that the tie-breaking vote would fall to him as First Consul. Presuming, of course, that Myrkyr voted as expected. He strode into the Council Hall and took his seat, then rose to call the assembly to order.

“Ladies and gentlemen, fellow citizens, I call this session to order.

We are hear to decide a matter of grave significance to the future of the Alliance. When we began this experiment, we pledged to open our arms to all Rim worlds seeking our protections, our freedoms, so long as they were willing to abide by our laws. Dantooine and Kessel both meet those standards today. Accordingly, I move that we cease further deliberations and proceed to a roll-call vote on Resolution 456, proposed yesterday by the Tatooine delegation.”

“Seconded.” That was the Myrkyr delegate. A good sign. The assembly quickly voted, agreeing unanimously to cease deliberation and vote on the final resolution. After all, their really was nothing more to discuss.

“Very well. We will now proceed to voting on Resolution 456: For the Purpose of Granting Dantooine and Kessel Full Status and Rights as Member Worlds of the Rim Alliance. Tatooine delegation?”

“Aye.”

“Geonosis delegation?” A pause.

“Abstain.” So, the Geonosians would not attempt to block the vote when the outcome was inevitable, but they could hardly go back on their previous position. Suprising, but an abstension made sense, all things considered.

“Kamino?”

“Abstain.” So, their would be no real opposition to the resolution.

“Myrkyr?”

“Aye.”

“Very well. By a vote of two to none, the resolution passes. Dantooine and Kessel are hereby granted full status as member worlds of the Alliance, with all the rights and responsibilities of such status. And may I offer my personal congratulations to the citizens of those worlds. Today I can truly and fully say: welcome to the Alliance.”

That evening Kossan attended a formal dinner with most of the other Council members at the Dantooine delegation’s offices, celebrating the admission of two new member states. The evening passed amid strong drinks and light, friendly conversation, but a part of Kossan’s mind brooded on the day’s events. It was reassuring that the Geonosians were conciliatory enough not to pointlessly oppose the motion out of spite, but he knew that they would not simply accept such a stinging political defeat either. Their power was greatly reduced, but their were still ways they could influence the situation. This could have a negative outcome on a number of issues, perhaps most critically the issue of the proposed treaties with the Imperial Remnant.

* * *

Commissioner Remman read the latest report from Covert Investigations Unit 23 Beta, currently operating undercover on the Core Protectorate World of Brentaal. They had confirmed the presence of Moruth Doole and Skynxnex on Brentaal, and were currently watching them to make sure neither slipped off-world without their knowledge. So far, they'd had no trouble with local security, and indeed no one appeared to have noticed their presence at all. It was unlikely the CP would take kindly to an Alliance Investigations Unit operating in their territory without their knowledge, but as long as his men didn't do anything to announce their presence, it hopefully wouldn't be a problem.

What was a problem, however, was that their was no way in hell that the Council would authorize him to arrest Doole without permission from the CP authorities, but if Doole was their with the CP's knowledge and permission, or had even simply bought off some of the local authorities, then going through official channels to nab him might very well tip him off. It was not a problem easily resolved, though perhaps it would be best to drive Doole off-planet and then jump him. The problem was, if the CP was protecting him, the best case scenario was probably that his men got kicked out of CP space, with Doole retaining his safe haven and being tipped off to their investigations. It wasn't that likely the CP was protecting him-the Commissioner could think of no particularly likely motive-but the possibility couldn't be discounted.

In the end, he reluctantly transmitted orders to simply continue tracking Doole and his accomplice and update him regularly on the situation, with an emphasis on determining weather they were enjoying positive relations of any sort with the local authorities.

Results:

Dantooine and Kessel are admitted as full member worlds, and the Alliance continues its work of restoring law and order while looking for (and so far failing to find) an opportunity to nab Moruth Doole.

ISDII Stormfront
Approaching Corellia

"We are ready to exit Hyperspace, my Lord." Praji nodded. "Make it so. Be prepared to be amazed, my dear." The last words were spoken to his daughter, who was watching the military men clutter about with disinterest. With a final lurch, the Stormfront exited hyperspace.

To anyone outside the ship, the manner in which she exited hyperspace would have been breathtaking to behold - not the ship itself, for Corellia say many ISDs entereing and leaving the system at any given time - but the six squadrons of the Scimitar Assault Wing entering with their mothership, arrayed in close parade formation. Flying so close to a moving starship that a single mishap could mean a fatal crash for a fighter was risky business at all times. However, doing so in hyperspace meant that the pilots and their computers had to be closely linked with each other to execute the jump at exactly the same time. In the Remnant Navy, only the Scimitar Assualt Wing - nicknamed the White Death for the white stripes adorning their wings - and the 181st Fighter Group could have pulled this off. But the latter was of course on Ord Cantrell, protecting the council.

But Praji had not meant this to amaze Tyla. For the formation's beauty could only be appreciated by onlookers, not by people standing on the bridge crew. What was supposed to amaze his daughter was the Corellian System and the planet Corellia itself, and this it did. Corellia was now coming into view, its massive shipyards even being visible from space while an impressive array of military and civillian crafts was buzzing about, with some of both groups rushing forward to greet them.

"Hail the incoming ships and request permission to enter the Corellian System."

Results:
- Praji arrives at Corellia.

Looking down at the graph on his datapad Eizen had seen the income from the newest increase in tolls through their customs station and made a not that they'd come out exactly as the Givin analysts had predicted. He couldn't have helped but smile, their idea of politics was laughable, but with their skill with numbers every planet in the alliance was enjoying record surpluses and projections showed that they would remain in place for decades to come. Closing the window bearing good news he turned to one that has been on his mind for a while, his budget outline, and scowled, it isn't that he didn't have the funds for everything he's planning to purchase, it's the fact that Admiral Bäs had been pressuring him for more ships and with the loosely knit nature of the alliance he'd only just been getting his diplomats organized let alone sending them out to secure more slips to increase the fleet's size faster. With a sigh the President had resigned himself to the fact that things were organized and that his diplomats were finally be ready to act on a unified foreign policy of his creation.

Having rising from his chair with a stretch and a yawn, the time spent at his desk looking over scores of spreadsheets and budgets having caught up to him in a sudden rush, president Acker shook his head and tried to clear the tired look from his face and appear well rested, he'd need to look his best to record the message that he would be sending as an opening of relations between his alliance and the rest of the galaxy. His plans were to start small, but being on such a space lane he'd had to send out messages to no less than four major factions as well as deal with other surely interested parties. Letting out a sigh he headed to the recording room, the choice to go pre-recorded instead of live allowed him time to formulate responses as well as showing that he won't be bullied off of his money maker without compensation.

Entering the small studio set-up in a board room he was greeted by a pair of droids, and a director. The first droid is a basic make-up model who wheeled around making him presentable while he paced the room and pondered what he's going to say. He couldn't have helped looking at the small camera droid and then to the the director and scowling at having such a busy schedule, but he sucked it as the price of being among the most influential people in the galaxy.

Once his make-up was done he looked to the director and said, “One take, we're showing them them indifference and setting the tone here and I don't care to pick nits for the sake of perfection.”

The director sighed and signaled the droid to start counting down to shooting the scene, he'd been used to working with spoiled holo-stars not upstart politicians with no patience. President Acker adjusted himself for the camera and listened as the camera counted down from ten in a small voice that speaks in time with a count down display. When the count was done he looked into the camera and paused a moment before speaking.

His pause for effect done he started speaking in a measured tone calculated to show a calm almost dismissive indifference to the people he's speaking to, “I am President Eizen Acker, head of public relations for the Trade Control Alliance. Doubtless you have already started to see petitions pilling on your desk about the tolls in place for passage around Yag'Dhul, and I wish to assure you that we are aware of this and have no plans on changing policy without due reason. That said I will entertain offers that make sense for our faction and should such offers be made we will consider relaxing fees for traffic to and from your world.

He took a sip of water before continuing, “Now, that I have introduced myself I think that I will end this message and await your replies in my inbox. Do try to spare me time wasting messages wrangling the Givin and keeping everybody happy is a taxing job.”

He signaled to cut and walked out of the room without a look back at the man or the droids. He knew that things will be cleaned up in post even for a short message like that and he trusted his opening statement would reach the Manticorians, Corellians, Imperials, and Militaire factions without incident. Putting the message behind him he prepared to present his budget to the Givin in a holo meeting scheduled for just under an hour.

Summary
-Diplomatic messages sent to Manticore, Corellia, Imperial Remnant, & the League Militaire.

Corellia
As the Stormfront exited hyperspace along with their Scimitar escort in their risky - but rather impressive - formation, Colonel Elias Baldor, commander of Kalidor Wing and flying the lead TIE Defender assigned to escort Marshal Praji and his retinue, shook his head. Showoffs... he thought, though he had to admit it was an impressive display of skill. He knew full well that his pilots and those of the White Death would have many a lively discussion when the opportunity arose. Getting back to business, he signaled the Stormfront. "Imperial Star Destroyer Stormfront, this is Colonel Baldor of Kalidor Wing, 809th Fighter Group, Corellian Starfighter Command. Welcome to Corellia."

"Acknowledged, Colonel Baldor. Thank you for the welcome," came the reply from the Destroyer. Assuming their escort position in front of the dagger shaped ship, with the diplomatic corps CR-90 corvettes Nova and Starflare falling in behind. The two corvettes had been the ones to carry ambassadors to the Manticoran Stare Empire and the Core Protectorate, and were chosen due to their role in opening relations with the original members of the CORE Alliance. The Arrow, which had been dispatched to the Remnant itself, was off on another assignment.

Baldor, the 12 TIE Defenders, the 72 TIES of the Scimitar Assault Wing, and the three capital ships flew along the predetermined course to enter orbit around Corellia itself. Baldor knew this route had been chosen as it gave the best view of the shipyards, and it didn't disappoint. The yards were alive and well, and looming larger than the others was the new Class VII (2200m) shipyard, undergoing the final stages of construction. In addition to the active yards, still more were being constructed, including a Class IX (8 km) shipyard; though at this early stage, one couldn't fully appreciate the eventual size of the finished product. And looming before it all, silent and deadly, was the Golan III battlestation which helped defend all the activity around it.

Once the Stormfront reached its orbit, Baldor led his Defenders "down" to the hanger, where they would escort Marshal Praji's shuttle to the surface.

*****************
Coronet City, Corellia
Admiral Teren Rogriss simply nodded as his deputy, Major General Green, told him that Marshal Praji's shuttle had departed and was on its way down. Behind him, he could hear the gathered formation being called to attention. Mere minutes later, Marshal Praji's shuttle, escorted by Corellian TIE Defenders, came into view. As they approached the landing pad, the Defenders broke off and flew out of sight, though they remained close at hand; their role in the ceremony to come was not yet over.

As Marshal Praji's shuttle landed and the Marshal himself exited, he would be greeted to an impressive sight. In addition to Rogriss and the others assembled to meet him, the formation prepared in his honor was a spectacle all its own. Standing in two symmetrical formations were the officers and soldiers from all the Corellian armed forces. Closest to the platform stood the Corellian Marines, Imperial Stormtroopers under a different name. While normally the armor would be a nonreflective matte black, the color normally worn in garrison, today they sported a highly polished, almost reflective look. Posted in the front since Marshal Praji had formerly been a stormtrooper commander, the Marines had decided to go the extra mile. To their sides and down the rows stood personnel from the Army, Navy, Starfighter Command, and even CorSec. And behind them all, two to either side, were four AT-ATs.

As the Marshal approached, Admiral Rogriss stepped forward and saluted. "Welcome to Corellia, Your Excellency. And thank you for accepting my invitation." As Praji returned the salute, Rogriss turned slightly to address his daughter. Bowing slightly, he offered his greetings to Tyla. "Welcome." Similar greetings were had among the other assembled dignitaries, and when they were completed the group turned and stood at the head of the platform. There was one final act of ceremony to be conducted before they left.

Responding to a signal sent from the cockpit of one of the mighty Walkers, a flight of Defenders left their holding pattern and flew to the landing area. In a vee formation, they began their overflight of the field. Below them, the assembled personnel all came to attention, with those in the military rendering a salute as the Defenders flew over. One of them pulled up and away mid-field; this was a Missing Man formation, flown to honor those who had been lost in the War, and to pay respect to those lost during the destruction of Coruscant, Anaxes, and untold other worlds.

With the flyover concluded, the assembled Remnant and Corellian delegation walked down the center of the formation to the awaiting landspeeders. Their first stop would be to meet Emperor Aeron Bell for a formal - but brief - reception. After that they would proceed to the Staff College where Praji would speak.

Marshal Praji's visit to Corellia had only just begun.

Alliance Council Chambers, Mos Eisly, Tatooine:

The twin suns rose into the morning sky, baking the streets and buildings of Mos Eisly as the Alliance Council convened to debate foreign policy. There were two main orders of business for today: the trade deal and various treaties with the Imperial Remnant, and the trade deal presented by the Kuati ambassador. It had taken far too long, in the First Consul's mind, for the Council to get around to debating these treaties, and it was possible that the foreign states in question would take the delay, however unavoidable, as an insult. However, now that the matter of Dantooine and Kessel's membership and a few pressing domestic issues had been dealt with, the Council was finally ready to debate the treaties. First Consul Kossan Mical rose and called the session to order as usual.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, citizens of the Alliance, today we must debate, and ultimately we must choose to accept and ratify, or else deny, the propositions made by the Ambasadors from Kuat and the Remnant. I trust that you are all aware of the nature of these proposals?” There was silence, and one or two delegates nodded their acknowledgement.

“Very well then. I motion that we discuss the Kuati proposal sepperately, and move first to deliberations on the Remnant proposal.”

“Seconded.” Ira Zahn, the Myrkyr representative, opened the debate.

“Thank you.” The First Consul rose and began to argue in earnest.

“Today, we stand at a turning point. When the Liberationist Militia rose up and expelled the Imperial tyrants and the criminal Hutt Clans from Tatooine, we were operating from the assumption that the bulk of galactic power would remain in the hands of the Core worlds, and that only by acting independently could we ensure control of our own future. There was also, I do not deny, a feeling of resentment in many quarters towards the centres of galactic power.

But now, circumstances are different. The Empire is broken, and so is the Republic. The Galaxy is divided between many minor powers. Chaos is everywhere. The field is open, citizens. Order is gone. And we must act now, taking a more active role on the galactic stage, both for ourselves and for the people, the civilizations of the galaxy. To do any less, is to sit back and consign the galaxy to the forces of anarchy or of tyranny. It is to isolate ourselves, and pave the way for others to once more decide our fate. We must choose our friends and partners carefully, and then stand by them, as we expect them to stand by us.

I do not mean that we should be blind to our own interests, or overextend ourselves with reckless involvements in the affairs of foreign powers. But we cannot afford to either ignore or needlessly antagonize other emerging states. For these reasons, I submit, we should not hastily reject the offer of trade and recognition from the Imperial Remnant. Indeed, I argue that we should accept it, if not in whole then at least in part. By engaging in open trade with the Core, we will strengthen our prosperity and for the first time open a way to a political voice in the affairs of the galaxy at large. We will gain recognition and a foreign market for our products as our manufacturing base grows, increasing prosperity and security across our systems...” A raised hand interrupted the First Consul.

“Very well, I recognize the delegate from Geonosis.”

“Thank you for your… impassioned words.” The Geonosian’s words were unintelligable without a protocol droid or other translator, but one who knew his dialect would have heard the condescension in his voice. “The Geonosian delegation is aware of the value of inter-system trade; indeed we have often depended on it. However, the Remnant proposes trade without tarrifs, complete free trade. Except of course for their special privilage to fix prices on two of their own worlds. This treaty would clear the path for trade that will flood our worlds with products from the Core, made with cheap resources on the Rim, driving our own factories out of business. Until once again, the Rim is simply a source of profit for the warlords and tyrants of the Core. The Geonosian delegation will not stand by while your administration pursues this dangerous and illogical course of action, First Consul!”

Kossan resumed the floor. It was more or less what he had expected to happen- the Geonosians were once again trying to block a perceived threat to their dominant position in the Alliance, albeit this time economic rather than political. However, he had his answer.

“It is true that the Remnant supports a free trade policy, as well as the right to fix prices on Anaxes and Coruscant. However, they do not support unlimited trade of all products and resources. Allowing such a trade deal would not compel us to provide the Remnant with any specific products, nor would it compel us to allow them unlimited access to our markets. We will not be compelled to accept any trade, nor shall I encourage any trade, that would threaten the economy of the Alliance or the livelihoods of its people. No more will I accept any trade which threatens the principles or long-term objectives of the Alliance. However, neither will I endorse a policy that might stifle beneficial trade with the Core, or stand by as the Alliance turns inwards, isolating itself from the Galaxy until other powers come to us, on their terms.”

* * *

The debate continued for over seven hours, well into the searing heat of midday. It was only in the afternoon that the specifics of a trade deal began to be established. Particularly contencious was the issue of the proposed trade of Ysalamiri. The representative from Tatooine was especially adamant in his opposition to such a trade without strict regulations.

“While it is all well and good if these people want Ysalamiri to protect themselves from the Sith, it is another matter entirely if they wish to use them for less noble means. Ysalamiri can be used as a weapon, even a form of enslavement against any Force user. Also, what garuntees do we have that the Remnant will not resell Ysalamiri to other powers, including potential enemies?”

The representative from Myrkyr replied.

“This is a valuable source of revenue for my planet, and one I would not easily cast aside, but the delegate from Tatooine is right. I do not think we can simply overlook this problem. Suggestions?”

The First Consul carefully considered his reply.

“Everyone has a right to defend themselves from the Sith or other dangerous Force users, and I think it would be counterproductive to try to maintain a complete monopoly on Ysalamiri supplies. I suggest that we supply the Ysalamiri, with appropriate political safeguards to make sure they are not used… inappropriately. We can also include a provision requiring of the Remnant that they agree not to resell the Ysalamiri, but I cannot promise that they will like that amendment.”

“What the Remnant likes is not of interest to this delegation,” the Geonosian representative hissed.

* * *

It was almost evening when the debate finally drew to a close. Once more, the First Consul took the floor.

“I move for a roll call vote on the treaty as currently proposed. Does anyone second the motion?” The Tatooine delegate immediately replied.

“Seconded.”

“Any objections?” There were none.

“Very well. We now put the matter to a vote. Tatooine?”

“Aye.”

“Geonosis?” A pause.

“Aye.” Geonosis’s belligerence clearly did not extend to blocking a potentially profitable trade deal, now that their demands had been met. That was good, the First Consul reflected. It meant that they could still be worked with.

“Kamino?”

“Nay.” Not entirely unexpected, but it hardly mattered now.

“Myrkyr?”

“Aye.” With three out of six votes already cast for the treaty, it was garunteed to pass. Any tie would be broken by the First Consul’s vote. But the formalities still had to be observed.

“Dantooine?”

“Aye.” Not surprising. Even before gaining full voting rights on the Council, Dantooine had been for the most part an ardent defender of the so-called “Expansionist” position.

“Kessel?”

“Nay.” That was surprising. A sign that the formerly neutral world was moving to join the isolationist camp? But at any rate, the vote was over, and the treaty had passed.

The First Consul nodded.

“Very well, the final tally is four to two in favor, resolution passes. I move that we adjourne for the night and resume deliberations in the morning.”

“Seconded.” Given the serious Hyperspace lag the delegate from Myrkyr might have suffered on her flight in yesterday, Kossan thought with amusement, it was no surprise she seconded the motion to adjourne. Twenty minutes later, the First Consul stepped out of the Council Chambers, to be greeted by the sight of his smiling wife.

Alliance Dreadnought Freedom’s Hope, Kessel system:

Newly promoted Captain Erik Janson stood in his command ship's docking bay as the shuttle descended to the deck. Its repulsorlifts shut off and after a moment’s pause, the door opened and a short, smiling man in a Commander’s uniform stood at attention in the exit.

“Permission to come aboard, sir?”

Erik smiled at his old friend.

“Granted.” He walked forward to meet the commander, exchanged salutes, then held out his hand in a less formal greeting.

“Its good to see you again, Hans. How are things over by Kamino?”

Hans shrugged.

“We’ve got a lot of new recruits, now that the locals know that the Alliance isn’t going to fold tomorrow morning. Might be getting some funding increases next year, though I hear most of its going to Gollan stations and capital ship production.”

“So,” Erik gestured to the line of young men and women who had disembarked from the shuttle behind the commander, “these are the new graduates?”

“Yes sir. The new fighter pilots, fresh from the Academy.”

Their were seven in all. Two human women. A Twi’lek male. Four young human men completed the roster. Captain Janson walked up and down the line, inspecting the new pilots. At last he stepped back and addressed the group.

“Welcome aboard Freedom’s Hope, currently serving as temporary flagship of heavy escort task force ETF-02-B. I understand that you are all on your first tour of duty, but this task force has a reputation to maintain, and a job to do.

For perhaps the first time in Galactic history, there is a government dedicated to order, freedom, and Justice on the Rim. In this darkest of times for the Galaxy, we have forged a bastion of peace and security in the wildest regions of space. But the forces of chaos are still out there. Piracy, smuggling, and warlordism run rampant. We are the last bastion between those forces and the peoples of the Rim. I expect from all of you the highest level of professionalism while you are serving aboard this ship.

Dismissed!”

The young pilots broke away and were shown to their quarters, while Captain Janson and his friend the Commander took the lift back up to the bridge. The youngest of the recruits trailed behind, casting a curious glance over his shoulder at the departing officers. He had felt something… odd about his new Captain. That he was somehow significant. But he put it out of his mind. There was nothing he could do about it right now, and it probably wasn’t wise for a rookie pilot to show to much interest in the actions of his superior officers, much less for him to risk revealing his latent Force abilities when that information had been strictly classified.

At length he reached his new quarters aboard the Dreadnought, a small, sparsely furnished room he would be sharing with three other pilots. Finding the locker that bore his name, pilot Kyp Durron stowed his few possessions securely away, then lay down to try to grab a few hour’s sleep before supper.

Results:

Political debate continues in the Rim Alliance.

The Alliance Council ratifies a modified trade deal, extradition treaty, and related items with the Imperial Remnant, including the following items:

1. Free trade for the most part with the right for the Remnant to fix prices on Coruscant and Anaxes. The Alliance however will agree to trade only certain goods and resources.

2. An extradition treaty in exchange for aid in rebuilding Coruscant and Anaxes.

3. A pledge that both parties will combat piracy.

4. A closely regulated trade in Ysalamiri to the Remnant.

5. In exchange for the Ysalamiri, the Remnant will recognize the Alliance's borders and pledge not to destabilize them.

6. Pending reciprocation from the Remnant, the Alliance will recongize the Remnant and its borders, and pledge not to destabilize them.

7. Convoy escort duty will be shared between the Alliance and the Remnant.

A young Force-sensitive named Kyp Durron takes up his first posting as a fighter pilot in the Alliance navy.

Edit: fixed minor continuity error pertaining to Dreadnought's name.

Star Empire of Manticore

"Play it again." Emperor James I Manticore said icily. "From the beginning, if you please." As the message from the Trade Control Alliance repeated on his computer, the ruler of a not-inconsiderable portion of the Galactic Core scowled slightly, an unusal expression for the usually phlegmatic man. The arrogance of President Acker startled him - He had been raised a minor Imperial nobleman's son, with courtesy drilled into his very essence from the time he could speak. Receiving a message bordering on the offensive, - and from a head of state at that! - was not something calculated to impress Empreror James.

"Computer, begin recording on my mark. Mark."
Imperial Manticoran Ministry of Foreign Affairs Encrypted Communique wrote: TO: His Excellency President Acker, Head of State, Trade Control Alliance
FROM: His Imperial Majesty James I Manticore, Lord, Imperator, and Emperor of the Star Empire of Manticore

Sir,

Having received your message, We confess to a degree of puzzlement. Trade agreements are usually the province of the Finance and Foreign Ministries in the Star Empire, one must understand, and We were quite puzzled by the knowledge that the announcement that they are unlikely to take place was proper fare for heads of state.

Moreover, We found the tone of Your Excellency's message unusual in that it seemed , to be blunt, imperious. Considering the degree of friendship of the Star Empire and the Trade Control Alliance, that is to say none at this moment, We are curious as to why Your Excellency felt it just to dictate trade terms to a sovereign star nation.

James I Manticore
"Transmit this to the Star Destroyer Honor and Glory under security protocol two, with orders to deliver the message to Teyr."

RESULTS: We don't like being dictated to. Not even a little.

Ord Cantrell
Feena D'Asta's suite

The message by the president of the so-called trade alliance had just been played. Again. Gathered around the projector were the Baron D'Asta, Feena and Leena as well as Mirith Sinn, Moff Saenger and Guri. All who were quite flabbergasted.

"Well, now we know whose mother did not love their son enough to teach him manners", Feena remarked icily. "Maybe the court jester got hold of the recording device while the real Acker was lying drunk in his bed," Saenger quipped. While a poor joke, it managed to dispell some of the tension.

"Jokes aside" - the Baron once more interjected - "what do we know about them?" "Almost nothing", Sinn replied. "They seem to be in the habit of taxing merchants for use of their space, but as our merchants do not pass through their territory, they were of no concern to us as they did not bother us at all. Until they chose to contact us directly."

"So in other words, they are extortionists." Sinn winced, but had no reply other than that would not be the words she would use - which would not have been a valid reply at all because the Baron hated semantics.

"But maybe extortionists we can deal with," Feena remarked. "We need all the resources we can get." "What about morality?" Sinn countered. "Rebuilding Coruscant has to take priority over the well-being of any merchant that is not even a member of our nation." "But-"

"Enough." The Baron's voice cut through the discussion. "We should send an envoy to find out if they actually are interested or whether this was a backhanded way to insult us. Feena, Commander Sinn, you already have your assignment elsewhere. You will be needed as soon as the Rachuk Republic responds to our query. Moff, you are needed here. That leaves you, Leena. You'll take my personal fleet to Teyr and find out if they are amenable to dealings with us."

Leena nodded, overcome with pride that the Baron would trust her with such an important assignment.

As the meetig broke up, Saenger whispered to Guri "Thank God Praji did not see this. He would have gone ballistic again. Instead, I bet the old bastard is having the time of his life right now."

***********************
Corellia

Marshal Praji was in fact having the time of his life. A military honor guard was always - to him - a beauty to behold. And having it performed as excellent as the Corellians had managed made sure that he enjoyed it even more. Much as he tried, he could not find a fault in the arrangements. Even his daughter, who took more after her mother than he liked, had been awed by the spectacle.

As he now entered the hovercar that would take the two Praji's and their hosts to a meeting with the Emperor, Praji could not help but remark to himself that this had been a reception worthy of an Emperor. Well, maybe one day...

Soon, they entered the palace of another former Imperial officer who already was an Emperor. As they entered the stylish chamber of the Corellian Emperor, neither Lord Praji nor his daughter did not bow as they were from a Core founder house, and they had not even been required to bow to Palpatine (though in practice, they all did).

Instead, he showed respect by saluting Aaron Bell. "Your majesty. I have the pleasure of introducing to you my daughter and presumptive heir, Tyla Praji."

Ever the gentleman, the emperor took the proffered hand and kissed it. "My pleasure, My lady." After a few pleasantries were exchanged, Tyla, as planned, left to visit the planet's museums and art galleries, leaving the military men to talk business.

Results:
- More talk at Corellia.
- Leena D'Asta will arrive in a few days with 2 Marauder Corvettes, 2 squadrons of D'Astan fighters at the border of the Trade Control Alliance, requesting an audience to discuss trade treaties and some other things.

Nal Hutta

Captain Drea Renthal was smiling in her command bunker. The upcoming operation had required a lot of planning, but she had been able to pull it off. Any minute now....

The Rachuk Republic
Just outside the Chorax system, the Republic mining convoy was pulled out of hyperspace by an asteroid placed in their path. While the soldiers were trying to recover, the two Mercenary Strike cruisers moved to engage the escort, while 12 Vibre class assault cruisers charged forward, trying to make a strike on the enemie's flanks. Their task would not be capture - it would be to utterly destroy any freighter in their path. Four squadrons of Uglies were keeping close formation to the Strike cruisers.

(OOC: Mining convoy due to you not having signed any trade pact yet IC).

Cultural Union trade convoy
The Cultural Union trade convoy to the Imperial Remnant was in the process of adjusting their hyperdrive vector - as the trade routes from the deep core to Axum did require multiple changes - when the Pirate fleet sprung their trap. One Strike cruiser moved forward, flanked by two Corellian corvettes and one Corellian Gunship. 12 TIE Fighters provided close escort, while 8 Y-wings were ready to make a torpedo run or ionise the freighters. These pirates were tasked with capturing the valuable durasteel the Cultural Union was trading with the Remnant.

Manticorean-Havenite trade route
The old Pirate dreadnought was slow, but battle-proven. It and its sistership, an equally old Munificent class frigate, moved towards the Manticorean Convoy. Escorted by four Hardcell corvettes and two Tartan cruisers, they were accompanied by 36 starfighters of all sizes. Their objective would be to defeat the escort and then capture the valuable target.

Trade Control Alliance mining convoy
The Mining convoy was in for a rude surprise when they were hauled out of hyperspace by a renegade Interdictor cruiser. Immediately after this had happened, the Interdictor turned tail and fled. The relief was short lived, however, as it was a feint - for as soon as the interdictor had entered hyperspace, 8 Assassin-class frigates appeared behind the convoy, their missile tubes firing 18 proton torpedoes at the nearest freighter.

Rim Alliance-Remnant Ysalamiri convoy
This was the highest-value target of the pirate operation and due to the high protection - alongside the usual Rim Alliance ships, the Remnant itself had provided a Victory Star Destroyer to the protection of the convoy. So the pirates made a choice more befitting a Navy instead of a pirate gang- they brought their own capital ship.

The Rim Alliance convoy was ambushed by the VSD-I Bootlicker when it came out of hyperspace. The Bakuran captain commanding the VSDII Honor of Bakura immediately moved to protect the convoy. This took him out of position and while the two VSDs began slugging it out, the rest of the convoy came under attack by one old Dreadnought as well as two Interceptor-class frigates and no less than 9 squadrons of fighters, among them 2 Bomber squadrons.

Results: Pirate attacks have been posted. You may respond whenever you wish, though it is advised you pm Thanas before doing so with the text of your response, because the pirates will exploit any dumb choice by yours.

Presidential Palace, Teyr

President Acker knew his message had worked as anticipated when a pair of Star Destroyers, displaying Manticorian IIF's, dropped into his system. It was exactly as he had planned, a message to get their hackles raised and cement him in place as the true leader of the alliance, not just a de facto leader who's power could be gone if the political winds turned. He took a far more hands on approach with things than most politicians would sending a message to the head of his fleet telling him to dispatch a pair of corvettes to escort them in.

It was a quick matter of dispatch between control, the corvettes and the destroyers from there in and the massive ships soon sat in their assigned lane. However they seemed eager to leave and as they arrived in place a message was sent to the President and they turned to leave the system. A quick reply was sent back asking them to stay and act as a holonet transmiter and relay the message back to their appropriate channel back home.

Short days after meetings with the Manticorians more ships from a contacted faction dropped into the Teyr system and they were quickly escorted to a lane. They didn't seem to want to send a message and leave like the other delegation had, but instead seemed to want a face to face meeting. Thus an escort to the planet was arranged for the diplomats being sent over and they were greeted by an honor guard of clone trooper armored soldiers, and a welcoming party consisting of President Acker, and his close personal aid, Leeza Therian, as well as a 3P0 series droid.

Speaking first President Acker said, "I owe you my apologies for making you come to me in this way, our government is in a period of transition right now and details seem to be falling through the cracks. Please join me in the official meeting room and we will open relations in a better way than a message that frankly isn't doing me any favors at the moment."

Office of the President

The President of the Republic sat dutifully across from his Chief of Staff, Jonn De Graveux, an assortment of papers strewn across his large desk as the two men worked to discuss policy and the Republic's next round of actions.

"You can't do it, Zhovan, I'm telling you now. It'll be a disaster." Graveux said, as he pushed the file on the Imperial Remnant towards President Andrak.

"What? You're afraid of a few politicians getting their rabble roused because we've accepted a visit from an Imperial delegation. What happened to your backbone?" The President looked at his friend, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh come off it, Zhovan, you and I both know this isn't about backbone, or high minded idealism. This is about reality. You're already taking flak because you've buddied the Jedi, and now you want to bring an Imperial entourage into the capital? What the hell is wrong with you? You know as well as I do that real politics are about picking and choosing your battles, you can't just take the position you want and expect it to work." Graveux sighed, leaning back in his chair, looking at the other.

"Jonn, you're a good friend, and you've been here with me since before the primaries, but this is important. Not simply for my idealism, but for the future of our nation. I don't like the Empire as much as the next guy, and I too, still remember how they helped to destroy the Republic only two years ago. But we're not dealing with the same Empire that caused all that trouble back then, this is a faction of the Remnant, and not only that but a presumably peaceful faction. I don't know what will come of their visit, but there's the chance to enter into a dialog. And that's the type of chance that we can't just pass up, especially because of the same sort of high minded idealism that you accuse me of - this thought that we're so much better than the Empire that we shouldn't associate with them." Andrak handled his friend with ease, almost pleading for his support. In his many years as a politician, and particularly as a candidate for the presidential office, he had come to rely on Graveux's support.

"Have you forgotten? The election is only two years away, and we're starting to get to the point where an issue, especially an incredibly divisive one like this, could easily cost you a percentage of the vote. The public consciousness may not have a long memory, but the choices you make today will absolutely come up next year when the campaigning begins. Are you willing to risk your chances at another term in office for what's presumably a diplomatic mission with the Empire? What if nothing even comes of these talks, and this is some act of Imperial sabotage? You can almost guaranteed you'll be called incompetent and have zero chance at being elected again. And hell, knowing that worm Juntaal, I wouldn't be surprised if he launched accusations of treason against you."

President Zhovan Andrak shrugged, looking directly at his friend's eyes, "I'm not worried about politics, or Juntaal. And I think the people are smart enough to realize that this is not only a prudent move, it's a neccessary one. We have a great military, Jonn, but it's not infallible. And our entire society is hanging on a thread. You looked at the file on the Remnant, you're aware of the CORE alliance. We might be able to survive one to one odds with these Imperial factions, but five to one odds? Don't be ridiculous. We have to make moves that ensure our long term survival, not just pander to our notions of how the galaxy should be. Commenorians have always been rugged, adaptable, and independent people. And the shrewd response to this situation, Jonn, is not simply to snub our nose at this faction and tell them they're unworthy of our time. It's to reach out. Do we give up our principles? Absolutely not. But this isn't a matter of us giving up our principles, this is a matter of not allowing ridiculous pride and sensibilities cloud our better judgement. And I know, deep down inside, you must agree just a bit." The President finished, awaiting the other's reply.

"There will be protesters, thousands of them. Riots. This isn't going to be pretty, and that spaceport will suddenly become the hottest spot on all of Commenor if you give them a tour of the surface." Graveux replied, he - like the good Chief of Staff he was, decided to abandon the ideological issue which had been decided, and focus on the practical implementation.

"We have riot police for a reason, Jonn. And if necessary, the military can intervene with ground troops to protect the delegation. The safety is manageable, the people can have their voice, and we can try and build a better bridge with the Imperials then we've had in the past." President Andrak countered.

The Chief of Staff buried his hands in his face, shaking his head. "Oh dear, don't even mention involving the military in protecting these delegates. That's a media nightmare waiting to happen, and Juntaal will use that in any campaign against you, guaranteed." Graveux lowered his hands and pushed a file detailed "SECURITY PREPARATIONS" towards the President. "Let's make sure all of these are followed, and I want every damn thing those Imperials plan to bring surface side declared." Chief of Staff Graveux said.

"I agree, I'll forward these files to the Minister of State, and make sure an information packet is sent to their delegation. I'm sure they won't have an issues in complying. I'm also going to ask Master Gorunn to accompany me when they arrive." President Andrak replied.

"Involving the Jedi, eh? That's risky business." Chief of Staff Graveux said.

"Perhaps, but this entire move is risky, is it not?" President Andrak said.

"You're right about that." Graveux replied.

"I know." The President commented, and the two of them proceeded to iron out the details of the delegation, the security measures, and the other implications of this event.

Kuat Drive Yards Corona-class Frigate, "Honorable"
Training Room A

Master Ardek stood a meter away from his pupil, Padawan Orduss, his light brown tunic swaying lightly as the brilliant green blade of his lightsaber remained active and angled away from himself.

"When dueling, my apprentice, a Jedi controls the flow of battle, no matter his opponent. Use the Force to calm yourself, and consider all options. A Jedi does not act with aggression, only the patience and serenity provided by the Force." Master Ardek spoke calmly, keeping his blade active but still as he instructed his padawan.

His padawan nodded, twirling his yellow blade around himself as he prepared for another strike. Sloppily, he swung for his Master's mid-section, and his blow was easily deflected.

"Far too impatient, reset yourself and try again." Ardek remarked, the older human looking at his apprentice with displeasure.

Orduss shuffled his feet, the pale white skin of his face defined by various black lines, denoting his Bpfasshi origin. He struck again, and the cycle repeated for ten or so blows. Each time, his maneuver was carelessly deflected, not even affecting the footing of the older Jedi, as the padawan struggled to master technique. Disappointment, and frustration begun to take hold and Orduss, who prided himself on his ability to pick up new things rather easily, began to lose confidence.

"Pause and think, you strike only thinking of the kill, not of how to circumvent my defenses." Ardek lectured, and Orduss felt himself decomposing. He prepared to strike again, but did not focus on his Master's defense, but rather the frustration and agitation that formed inside him. Outwardly, he struck as fast as he could, landing a dozen blows far faster than he had before, and Master Ardek, taken by surprise, could only think to give ground, particularly against his frenzied padawan.

Padawan Orduss grunted, and hollered, striking as fast as he could muster and continuing to push his Master back. Soon, they dueled across the practice room and Ardek could sense that he was soon to hit a wall, so with a quick thrust of his free left hand, he sent the Padawan flying back into a far wall, using the Force to push him away. Droplets of sweat dripped from his brow, and he lowered his blade, to look at his Padawan - across the room, slumped across the wall, and starting to raise.

"What were you thinking, Padawan?" Master Ardek scolded, shouting at the younger being while looking at him with an accosting gaze.

But Orduss was furious, and he rose to his feet, spitting at the ground of his Master, "You cheated! You pushed me with the Force!" Orduss snarled, showing his teeth, and waving his blade back and forth.

"Have you forrgotten yourr place?" An unfamiliar voice boomed, as the powerful Togorian Jedi Master Zarr entered. The words echoed in the mind of Orduss, and he seemed to snap out of it, looking towards both Master Ardek and Zarr, stunned.

"But I.. I'm. I'm--" The Padawan mumbled, looking down at himself and at the two of them, but he was cut off by Master Zarr.

"Silence, padawan and rreturn to your quarters. Stay therre until you are met with." The senior Jedi Master said.

Orduss, shocked and confused, moved towards the exit of the training room. As he moved, he deactivated the lightsaber and felt it tugged away from him with the pull of Force, landing cleanly in Master Zarr's outstretched palm.

"You will not be needing that until we speak, Padawan." Master Zarr said.

Padawan Orduss exited the room, the entrance to the training room sealing shut, as Master Ardek, who had deactivated his lightsaber, stepped closer to his long time friend and ally.

"I told you he was trrouble, since the day you brrought him in, Tharun, he is trouble." Master Zarr said to the other.

"He's just a boy who needs guidance, he has a good heart, but gets lost in his ways." Master Ardek replied.

"He's a loose cannon, and he will get himself orr otherrs killed in the field." Master Zarr said.

"I can teach him to do better." Master Ardek countered.

"His trraining should be ended, he has no place in the Order, and cerrtainly no place as a Jedi." Master Zarr said.

"You and I both know it's too late for that, he's already experienced part of the Force, and if we don't educate him properly, he'll seek out information on his own and perhaps encounter the Dark Side." Master Ardek said.

"You must learrn to control him." Master Zarr said.

"I will." Master Ardek replied.

"You had betterr." Master Zarr said.

Grand Isle Spaceport, Vladet

Senator Juntaal's ship, Office

Kols Ashlar sat across from Senator Juntaal, gently puffing on a cigarra. The Senator looked did not smile, nor show emotion towards the man, rather, he seemed to regard him as though an important specimen in his work. The Senator pushed a cylindrical object towards the man, coaxing it ever so slightly.

"You will use this to carry out the deed." Senator Juntaal said, point blank. "Your target has already been arranged, but for your reference, this datapad contains an image." Juntaal passed the man a datapad with the image of Representative Chullun. He studied the thug closely for a moment, "And for goodness sake, put out that disgusting cigarra while on my ship."

The mercenary narrowed his eyes, but put out the cigarra. He hefted the cylindrical hilt in his hands, looking at it curiously. "How do I work it?" Ashlar asked, twirling the cylindrical object around in his hand, avoiding the power button.

"Careful, you fool. Point the open edge away from you, and my furniture. Towards the center of the room, in the open." Juntaal said, gesturing with his hand towards the mercenary's right.

Ashlar pressed the button, and a brilliant blue blade of pure energy shot from the cylindrical hilt with a distinctive snap hiss. Ashlar was visibly stunned, and he gripped the blade extraordinarily tight.

"Now, I would suggest sedating our dear friend before using this, but the blade will cut through anything. Just be very careful, as you can probably tell from holding it, the weapon is not like a real sword. You cannot feel the weight of the blade, and careless handlers of something like this have often ended up with missing limbs. Be mindful of what you're doing." The Senator said, watching the ruffian carefully.

Ashlar nodded, deactivating the blade, and tucking it away, standing up. As he rose, the Senator spoke again, "I have already provided you with fifty thousand credits, the condition of your advance. I will provide another four hundred thousand once the job is complete. That weapon must be returned for you to receive payment."

Ashlar replied, "So be it."

And with that he departed.

Chasin City, Commenor
Presidential Residence, Master Bedroom

Dr. Lay'la Andrak sat next to her husband in bed, reading results from a study that had been conducted on Commenor's orbital research station. A senior researcher on the station, and a lecturer at the University of Commenor, she was a distinguished biochemist who had earned considerable accolade and respect among her peers. She was also a prominent female symbol in the Republic, the wife of its charismatic leader, Zhovan, and despite the fame her husband's position had brought her, she remained as level headed, and in an appreciable way, ordinary as ever. Zhovan loved her deeply, and he often felt comfortable talking about matters of office with her, tonight was no different.

"I'm concerned, Lay'la, both Jonn, and most of the party faithful think that meeting with the Remnant is a bad idea. I just think they're being short sighted, but if something goes wrong, I won't know what to think." Zhovan mused, he had several reports piled onto his lap. Tonight, both he and Lay'la only had reading to do, and so they were able to spend a bit more time together.

"I trust you, Zhovan, otherwise, I wouldn't of married you. And while I prefer reason to simple intuition, if you think this is a necessary risk, then I agree. Besides, you have a valid point, maintaining this senseless attitude of isolation regarding the Remnant is short sighted. Only through mending relations might the Republic be able to establish itself on the galactic scale again." Her voice was soft, yet it had a firmness that paid tribute to her intellect and strength. Zhovan enjoyed listening to her talk.

"But what if it does backfire? What if they're right and this is some sort of ruse, or worse yet, the prelude to a war?" Zhovan asked, looking at her.

"Then you were tricked. What does it matter? I think it's more important to look at the alternative. We can either persist in this conservative mentality of maintaining a hardline stance against the Empire, or we can open our minds and consider the possibility of peace. And if this is a ruse to declare war, it begs the question of why they're wasting all the effort to come here in person. Frankly, Zhovan, I think you know these answers already." She turned to look at him, raising a slight eyebrow. "And no matter the outcome, you will always be a great leader in my eyes, look at your track record with the Republic." She leaned over and kissed him once, before returning returning back to her position and reading again.

Zhovan let the conversation hang there as he mused over his thoughts. Throughout most of his life, he had been a strong leader, a source of guidance and support for those around him. Indeed, it was those qualities that won him the affection of Lay'la in the first place. But he had always admired her intelligence, and beauty. And in ways he wasn't sure if she realized or not, Lay'la offered an integral sense of support that Zhovan never wanted to be without. She kept him going when he wasn't sure of himself, and Zhovan made it his duty, as her husband, to do the same.

Republic Engineering Corporation Majestic-class Heavy Cruiser - "Defender", Commenor system
Bridge of the Heavy Cruiser

Captain Armund Greven stood on the bridge of the Majestic-class Heavy Cruiser, Defender, and watched as his task force consisting of another Majestic-class and two Corona-class frigates prepared to jump to lightspeed for the Chorax system with the convoy they were escorting. Two squadrons of T-65AC3 X-Wings had already been launched, leaving two squadrons each still left in the Corona-class frigates. The fighters had been arranged near the flanks of the convoy as a measure of rapid response against any enemy fighter craft. They were designated Red and Blue squadron.

Captain Greven looked to the communications officer, "Have our fighters check in and prepare for light speed."

"Yes, sir." The communications officer replied, relaying the request.

Red Leader received the message and spoke over the closed band communications line for Red Squadron, "Red Leader to squadron, all units check in."

All pilots checked in, and he radioed the confirmation to Captain Greven. Blue squadron did the same, and things seemed to be proceeding as normal.

The fleet departed for the Chorax system, and Captain Greven wondered silently if they would run into any resistance.

Responding to the Trader request, Captain McKeon stated, a hint of arrogance in his aquiline face,

"You are aware, Your Excellency, that holonet transmissions across such a distance would require a dedicated installation with more power than my ship can provide. I will relay a message to His Imperial Majesty, but I can do no more."

Presidential Palace, Teyr

Having heard the Captains message President Acker did feel a bit foolish, but it wasn't an area he had any knowledge of so his reply was, "Tell them to expect a visit from our diplomats shortly so we can conduct relations properly. That message was done in haste and we wish to repair any damage done quickly."

Of course that wasn't the real idea behind the message, it was to attract attention to legitimize his position as the leader of his faction and once and for all rest power from the Givin. However after first insulting them he could't risk a war so he must play nice and try to smooth things over. Of course it was a risk, a calculated one, but still very much so a risk.

Freedom’s Hope dropped out of Hyperspace ahead of the group of ten transports, which were encircled by a flotilla of two CR90 Corvettes and two Corillean Gunships as escorts. A few seconds later a Bulk Cruiser dropped out of Hyperspace at the rear of the fleet, completing the formation.

Captain Janson knew almost immediately that something was wrong. The tactical officer signalled an alert.

“Four unidentified ships off our starboard bow. Looks like a VSD-I, a Dreadnought, and two Interceptor Frigates Sir.” A pause. “They’re launching fighters.”

“Increase power to deflector shields and turbolaser batteries. Prepare to launch fighters. Ask the Honor of Bakura to send some fighter cover our way, or we’re going to get swamped.” Up ahead, the captain could see the Remanant destroyer moving to engage the enemy VSD. Which meant the frigates and the Dreadnought were all his. Wonderful.

Quickly he considered the situation. They were outnumbered. The priority was to protect the transports. He could engage the Dreadnought and hold it off, while the freighters made a run for it. The frigates might attempt to pursue, but some of the freighters carried decent armaments, and those coupled with the escorting corvettes and Bulk Cruiser could probably handle the frigates well enough. He considered briefly weather he should have the freighters split into two groups, but decided against it. He didn’t have enough ships to cover two groups properly. They would stand a better chance of getting out together.

“Communications, tell the freighters and escorts to run for it and get into Hyperspace as quickly as possible, then call for back up. Tactical, maximum power to forward shields, have turbolaser batteries target the Dreadnought but hold their fire until I give the order. Laser and quad laser canons may fire at will. Helm, close with the enemy Dreadnought. We’ve got to hold them while the convoy gets clear.”

The question now was weather the pirates would split up to pursue the transports, or concentrate on him. If the former, he was fairly confident he could take the Dreadnought on his own, but he would just have to hope the other escorts were up to protecting the convoy. If the latter, then he wasn’t so confident about his own chances, but he could hold them a while, maybe long enough for reinforcements to arrive or too convince the pirates it wasn’t worth the trouble.

Kyp was jolted awake by the sound of an alarm calling personel to battle stations. He scrambled out of his bunk along with the other three pilots who shared their small room, then hurried down the hall toward the hangers. As he arrived, the squadron commander was waiting, already dressed in his flight suit. The squadron of 12 Z95-Headhunters was being prepped for launch, and Kyp hastily clambered into his flight suit and then into the cockpit of Fighter Number 6. Alarms sounded again, warning that the hanger force fields were about to be dropped, then one by one the fighters began to move out of the hanger. Kyp followed the first few out, accelerating as he left the shadow of Freedom's Hope. The squadron commander’s voice sounded harshly inside his helmet.

“Alright, we’ve got eight, maybe nine enemy squadrons. Fighters 1-6, take the bombers. Fighters 7-12 fly cover for them. Let’s go!”

Kyp sent his Headhunter spinning ‘round, falling in behind one of the squadrons of bombers. He accelerated again, quickly overtaking the rearmost craft, then felt a surge of adrenaline as he blew it apart in a precise burst of blaster fire. He sensed a volley of enemy blaster fire heading towards him and altered course, swerving back and forth in an effort to stay out of the enemy fighter’s line of fire. Then the other fighter was gone, leaving only tiny fragments of debris.

“That’s some nice flying, kid.” The commander’s voice sounded in his ear again. Kyp had no time to reply as he sent his Z-95 rolling to one side to avoid another burst of laser fire, then locked onto a second bomber and obliterated it.

Mining Convoy, Mid Route

A disturbance in hyperspace was detected by the lead escort, TCAF Task Master, the Carrack cruiser assigned as the command vessel for the escort mission. It's Captain warns the rest of the fleet to be alert, and his fears were confirmed when they were pulled out of hyperspace right next to an Interdictor cruiser displaying an unknown IFF. He was in the process of sending them a warning message but the ship jumped shortly after tugging them from hyperspace leaving them a few precious moments to get the freighters formed into a tight group to make them easy to cover.

Giving his orders in a hurried but calm fashion Captain Wesz Byron said, “Our first priority is to get those freighters in a group so we can cover them easier. Next is getting into hyperspace. I don't want any fighters going out unless it looks like we're going to be stuck here for a while.”

The orders were carried out swiftly, with even the most stubborn pilot unwilling to risk his ship for his pride. As swiftly as everything came together the slowest and least maneuverable of the freighters were still moving into position the Assassin class vessels dropped out of hyperspace and gained locks on the single craft most out of formation. The Carrack, TCAF Sheppard, which was in the rear of the convoy was already turning to line up her broadside to them but the enemy was attacking easy prey and a volley of missiles put the fleet back on her heels from the start.

Being offered the Sheppard and advantage, though only half of hers guns could fire at the missiles as they approached, it offered her the best field of fire and a better angle than forward and gave a second chance at anything attempting to sneak by. They also had support from the Marauders, TCAF Tender, and TCAF Keeper, who moved over to intercept. Soon space was filled with laser and light turbolaser blasts reaching into the missile streams and heavy turbolasers blasts aimed and fired at the aft quarter of the enemy ships with the intent to score some quick damage and knock the enemy out of the fight.

Meanwhile up front the lead ship was scanning for any late arrivals and using her nav computer to plot a jump for the freighter's that couldn't calculate a jump fast enough. Her utmost priority was jumping first and finding out what happened later. That was of course if one of the flock wasn't knocked dead in space before that could happen.

HIMMS Retriever
Nebulon-B Frigate, Captain Rafael Cardones commanding
Flagship, Task Force EF-1207 Alpha
Manticoran-Havenite Trade Route

Captain Cardones had spent much of the past week enjoying a holonovel from the unusual locale of Retriever's command deck - After all, there was very little for a captain to do on convoy escort. However, he was still a Manticoran officer, and when his com/scan officer shouted out a report, he was ready.

"Action aft starboard ventral, Captain! Reading... two Tartan-class light cruisers and two squadrons of TIEs!" the man's voice was an odd mixture of trepidation and excitement. Much like my own reflected Cardones. And isn't it a bad sign when we're relieved to be attacked? Escort duty does not agree with me.

"Acknowledged. Move Retriever and Harrier towards them, along with a Lancer...Make it Bulwark of Carida. Standard assault formation, and task our fighters to attack - Bulwark and our own PD can cover our backs." Cardones had a nagging feeling that something wasn't right, but two Nebulon-Bs and a Lancer ought to be able to deal with a pair of obsolete light cruisers while still leaving him enough to respond to other developments...

"Aye, sir. Tracker is reporting a sensor ghost, nothing to worry about, but under the circumstances..." said the com/scan Lieutenant Commander, tapping commands into his console. "It's in the aft port dorsal quadrant, here." he continued, highloghting a region of space behind and slightly above the convoy.

"Call Seagrace, tell her we could use her wing here. I've got a bad feeling about this..." the captain muttered, rubbing his clean-shaven chin. Pirates came in two categories, the petty, who usually couldn't scrape up even a pair of obsolete cruisers, and the professional, to whom such an exlenditure was small change. There was more going on here than met the eye. "Guns, fire when ready. Flight Ops, concentrate on the second Tartan, I want to reduce their strength as soon as possible."

EDIT: Oops, forgot that Thanas got to play the pirates.
