PeZookia to purchase OD chemical warfare equipment for evaluation

Leaks from industry insiders have revealed today that the Foreign Ministry has entered negotiations with Old Dominion manufacturers over the acquisition of about one hundred military-grade NBC suits for evaluation in desert conditions. The reason for this decision apparently stems from experience and opinions of PeZookian military observers in Sirnoth, where they could observe, first-hand, NBC suited OD troops in action.

It is unclear if the deal is simply an evaluation of the suits, or part of a larger order for the wider PeZookian army.

COSTAS COUNTERSTRIKE
South Costas, Interior

Major Butch Schaefer was talking to General Philips, who was on the line. He appraised his commanding officer of the situation and received new instructions. Promptly, he gave the radio to the outsider in their team - Dillon.

Image

Dillon was a former member of their Force Recon squad before he transferred to the Shroomanian Secret Service, the SSS. They had him pushing pencils in Farbanti, but apparently the man had kept himself fit. As evidenced by their surprise meeting at General Philips' office, prior to their deployment on this mission.

Dillon picked the radio receiver up and Butch left him to talk with the General. Afterwards, the man placed the receiver down and approached Butch.

"What did you tell the General?" Butch asked.

"I told him that the situation has grown complicated," Dillon answered him. "But our suspicions have been confirmed."

"You've got to be more specific than that, Dillon." Butch replied. "That might be how you SSS spooks talk like, but that won't do it out here in the battlefield, not when you're working with other people."

"And that's what we're going to do," Dillon smiled wryly at his muscular Shroomstrian-accented comrade.

"Goddamn you and your cryptic bullshit," Butch spat. "As if this situation isn't bad enough."

"That's right, Butch. The situation's bad, we're following a mystery death squad in MESS kit and we're expecting the worst. Now that we're closing in, we find a new set of tracks - CATO tracks - where our friends are supposed to be heading," Dillon explained.

"It can't be CATO people, we're the only ones operating in the area," Butch replied. "It could be our mystery death squad, maybe they decided to change footwear - and change priorities. First they were targeting Baernish sympathizers, and now a MESSite village."

"Exactly, and now we have to work with other people, Butch." Dillon grinned.

"You son of a bitch," Butch spat.

***

"Ortega," Dillon greeted the rebel commander. "I trust we can employ the aid of your men? I believe we're both looking for the same game."

"Maybe we are," Ortega replied. "But whatever it is, at least the pay is generous - and those stacks of Shroomanian pornography, a very kind compliment."

"Very good," Dillon grinned and turned to give Major Butch Schaefer a thumbs up. "That's Major Butch Schaefer, he's with me."

"Ah," Ortega nodded. "I have someone with me too, a new... lieutenant."

Image

"Good day, mate," Van Der Kade greeted. "The name's... Arnold. Arnold Vosloo. At your service."

"Nice to meet you... mate." Dillon shook his arm, hard, and the secret Indhopali operator met the Shroomanian agent's grip with one of his own as both parties gauged each other intensely.

Image

Satisfied with the amounts of exuded testosterone, they both released their grip.

"Yes. This will be a most interesting day indeed," Ortega said to himself as both Dillon, Major Butch and Van Der Kade glanced at him suspiciously. BYZANTINE DIPLOMATIC HALL

Ambassador Inoue acknowledged the Byzantine interest in officer exchanges and potential military cooperation ventures.

"We will consider such an offer," the Ambassador said, "My government instructs me to consider an exchange of twenty officers for one six-month cycle, with the option to extend and expand the program at a later date.

"It is also our opinion that, perhaps, some low-level joint military exercises would be considered, if your government was interested. We were thinking of some combat engineer work in Neo-Manchukuo... the territory of Great Japanistan in Veleria."

SOUTH COSTAS INTERIOR

This was what Kelah Bonesteel lived for.

The column of Baerneish military trucks wound down the narrow mountain corridor, their diesels howling at the inclines as the engines prevented the vehicles from going too fast. The drivers, of course, knew that potentially hostile forces were in the area and wanted, desperately, to take chances and rush through the narrow dirt roads, but they knew better. There were also a minimum of two guards per truck, riflemen in some cases but as many squad machineguns as could be spared-- which had the unfortunate effect of removing scarce personnel from other Baernish bases, but what could the commanders do?

The Baernish column-- only six trucks, with a jeep in front and one in back for extra security-- reached the go-point, and Kelah clenched her fist around the initiator and was satisfied with a loud, thunderous BOOM!

As planned, the detonation set off two packages of C4: the first blew up the forward security vehicle, actually lifing it off the ground and depositing it back in a crumpled, fiery heap. The second detonation was relatively small-- bringing a tree down between the security vehicle and the lead truck of the column. That was in case the first charge sent the car tumbling down the cliff; the truck would still be blocked in place... it also cut the vehicles off from rendering efficient buddy aid, surely frustrating the troops no end.

The explosions had barely gone off when Jackson Blackpelt and Riggo popped up from their hiding places and hit the last truck in the column with a pair of RPG-29s, turning it into a blazing ruin.

The rest of the RUF-- those that weren't on security-- began hammering at the trucks with machinegun and rifle fire, lobbing grenades as well. The Baernish troops were professional, and did what all the manuals said to do in a near-ambush-- they massed and charged the source of the fire as quickly as they could, seeking out their ambushers as they spray-fired towards the RUF muzzle-flashes. Their remaining comrades in the trucks, the ones with crew-served weapons, applied suppressive fire as best they could, although it was still unfocused and panicked at this early point in the "reaction phase".

But the RUF knew the manuals, too, and had looked at them for weaknesses to exploit. As the Baernish troops charged forward, the RUF commander, Jackson Blackpelt, blew a referee's whistle and the small band of terrorists immediately went to ground, sucking dirt in their hasty-dug positions as Lukin clenched the next detonator.

Claymor emines went off, as planned, danger-close to the RUF fighters; the backblast and more than a little burning residue raking over their backs just enough to sting, with a few minor burns. But the famous "Front Toward Enemy" portions of the mines were aimed properly and downhill enough to cut through the advancing wave of Baernish troops and cut them to ribbons.

For a tense moment, silence ensued, then Blackpelt, Lukin, and Kelah all popped smoke grenades and pulled back, spray-firing in the general direction of the trucks to keep the machinegunners' heads down. Blackpelt nudged Riggo's leg, but the man lolled over to reveal a neat round hole in his right forehead, where a chance Baernish shot had pegged him perfectly. Blackpelt said nothing but grabbed the man's weapon, leaving a grenade carefully placed underneath him with the pin pulled and his dead weaght holding the spoon in.

They ran back to their rally point in silence, where they grabbed their rucks --Blacpelt hoisted Riggo's ruck up on his shoulder-- and they ran off to their secondary secure site, a grove of trees near a small river. Again, using the river to travel without footprints, they made their escape.

Results:
Only a few Baernish troops survive the ambush, but lots of shock & wounded. If they still have comms, they can radio for help.

1ST ROYAL MARINES MEU
PORT COSTAS

"Alright, shakedown inspection, right now!"
"What the fuck!?" one Marine hollered, "We just had a goddamn shakedown inspection three days ago!"
"You will shut the fuck up and open up everything you have!" the Platoon Leader yelled, the glowering Gunnery Sergeant and the First Sergeant next to him. "Lockers! Rucksacks! Your goddamn porno collection! Everything will be laid out! And I want to see everyone's assigned basic load and I want serial-number checks on every weapons system!"

Groans went up as the Canissian Royal Marines did what was required of them. They'd suffered four full-layout, serial-number shakedown inspections since the mess in the South Coasts interior had started. Personnel rosters had been modified at last minutes, guard shifts were assigned with frequent check-ins, people assigned in pairs to make sure no one was sneaking off, and now yet another indignity.

As the officers and senior NCOs rifled through the men's gear to make sure they hadn't stocked up extra ammo, or had muddy boots stashed away, the upper levels of command felt helpless. They knew it was all bullshit; if anyone in the Marine peacekeeping command was sneaking out to engage in terrorism, then they were clearly supermen, able to cover hundreds of miles with full packs and weapons, do their deeds, and return within the matter of a few minutes. But the command felt pressure to be seen doing something resembling an investigation.

The constant shakedowns and suspicion and pressure ran morale low. The Costan people, originally hopeful about the arrival of the tri-national peacekeeping force, were increasingly uneasy around the soldiers (especially the Canissian Marines). Informants had clammed up, pro-MESS people had been beaten up or disappeared completely; in some cases demonstrations had broken out and there'd been open conflict between pro-MESS and anti-MESS partisans in the street-- drunken brawls, mostly, but how long would it stay contained to just that?

With the news of the assassination of the pro-MESS mayor in the minor village of El Rios, some in the pro-CATO camp gloated that either Shroomanians or pro-CATO village guerrillas were finally starting to take revenge. The mood was getting ugly, and it was increasingly hard to keep the peace when so many were convinced that either one side or the other was involved in the goings-on in the interior.

Most disturbing was a growing voice of militant, nationalist pro-Independence movement in the populace. Every day, more radio stations, flyers, and public rallies called for all foreigners to be kicked out of the Costas, and that if they didn't leave voluntarily, then other means of persuasion might be used...
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

The Costas

Vincent Ford was one of two SRG operators Cortez had kept with him at headquarters. He was currently in an old Mi-17 being piloted by a Klavostani who insisted on being called Crazy Carlos. Their destination: The ambush site where from what everyone could tell some unfortunate Bearnish supply column just got the shit kicked out of them.

It had been all over the radio. Itching for something better to do than sit round the HQ, Ford had volunteered to go to the ambush site and do a quick damage assessment to find out what they were dealing with. Cortez had figured a pretty good cover story for him. He was now an aid worker from Cascadia who had heard about the ambush over the radio and was coming in to help. Crazy Carlos flew a lot of aid flights when he wasn’t working for the ISIA so the story should hold up.

Their airfield had been right on the same road the Bearnish had been hit on. The ISIA seemed to on top of things for this op. Vincent might even be able to beat Bearnish helo’s to the site. It promised to be dangerous, but Ford consoled himself that in all likelihood given the professional nature of his target they would likely be long gone before he got there.

“We’re coming up on the site now!,”
Yelled Crazy Carlos,
“I’ve made contact with the men at the ambush. They’ve got a shitload of wounded so you won’t have much time to look around!”

Ford nodded and said,
“Roger that I won’t need much time anyway.”

As the Helicopter approached the ambush site Ford was at his highest state of alert. The valley they were in was beautiful. Then he saw the ambush site in all its bloody glory. The Mi-17 did a couple of passes while Carlos figured out where to land on the narrow roadway. Ford meanwhile took photographs of the ambush site. The helicopters rotor wash temporarily blocked all view as Carlos came in and landed the bird.

A shell shocked Bearnish trooper came up to the chopper. He had been shot in the arm but could still walk. He looked to be a medic to Ford.

“Show me the wounded men! We got to get them out of here! What’s your name trooper?”
Yelled Ford.

Not responding for a moment the medic said,
“ John. Follow me.”

The wounded were spread all over; most of them were in pretty rough shape. Virtually none of them were combat effective. The medic had done his best but when you were working with only one good arm there was only so much you could do.

As Ford worked to load the men into the Chopper he could pretty much tell how the ambush had progressed. It had been a pro job, no question about it. The Major and his new play mates were likely going to be in for a rough bit of action. At least this ambush meant the man “Butch” and his group were probably not affiliated with the men they were after.

Before the chopper lifted off Ford ran back to the medic and said,
“John I’m going to do a quick loop to make sure we are not missing anyone.”

That’s pretty much what Ford did. The ambush had been quite effective though. The claymores especially had really done a number on the Bearnish forces. Being careful of booby traps, Ford moved into the tree line to quickly inspect and photograph the ambush positions. It was then that he found the dead body in the MESS Uniform. He didn’t have time for much else, so he simply took a few photographs with a small digital model and then ran back to the chopper.

“Let’s go!”

The engines whined as Crazy Carlos took the bird up. The light to the Bearnish field hospital was one the most unpleasant helo rides Ford had experienced in awhile. He was quite impressed with the wounded medic John however. Throughout the flight he continued to do his job despite his injury. Even with the wounded men taking up most of his attention Vincent did find time to send his photographs up the chain of command via a digital uplink.

Baernish 1st Guards Division Headquarters
Sandypoint, Costa de las Cinquos Muertes

It was a quiet day at the office, as far as Captain Stark was concerned. His intelligence assets had not turned up much information on the elusive raiders destroying so much of the Costa's small supply of peace and security, and he himself had just brought his company back for some much-needed R&R. It was with a degree of unhappiness, therefore, that he answered his phone, expecting some manner of routine disturbance.

"Captain Stark here."

"What's that? Slow down, man!"

"Understood. Tell our troops to keep their position, reinforcements will be arriving shortly."

He rose quickly from the Army-issue desk in his small office, sticking his head into the dispatch room next door.

"Order 2nd Company onto the choppers. We're heading for the MSR."

Results: Baernish responses consists of a company of infantry with ten attack helicopters for support. When they arrive, the area will be combed for RUF forces. Also, engineers have been detailed to fix our road.

Tian Xia Army begins fielding "Drusilla" LAW upgrade

The Light Anti-tank Weapon was originally designed to destroy armored targets. Since then, it has found a new lease on life serving as a lightweight and low cost way of destroying any lightly or unarmored target, such as technicals, bunkers, et al, being issued at the individual level. The so-called "Drusilla" upgrade adds a cheap EO sensor and nose mounted guidance system. These improvements allow effective use out to the maximum range of the weapon. A change to the sights is also required.

"Milgem" class patrol frigates ordered

Intended largely as an austere surface combatant, the so called Milgem class is a relatively cheap, non-AEGIS frigate designed largely for anti-submarine warfare. As such, it carries both a sonar set, as well as a helicopter (either a single MH-60R, or a pair of either MH-65Ds or UAVs). For self defense purposes, it carries a medium range AESA radar set, along with 16 Mk41 VLS cells. Total tonnage of the ship is only 2000 tons.

Orders have been made by both the Old Dominion and Tian Xia. They have apparently been made due to the recent increase in submarine orders by foreign states.

JDRADM missile begins operational qualification testing

The JDRADM missile has been designed to operate as both an air to air missile, as well as an anti radiation missile. One of the advanced technologies used is the steerable fragmentation warhead, which allows the missile to control both the direction and the spread of fragments from the warhead towards the target. It will enter service as the AIM-120F.

War Ministry confirms Light Patrol Frigate buy

Citing rising dangers to the maritime security of the Impact Crater and the region surrounding Shepland, the War Ministry confirmed that a new class of "light patrol frigates" will be acquired for the ODN. 4 Neuse-class frigates have been ordered, with a total of 8 planned. The project is being jointly run with Tian Xia to push down costs, although there will be design differences between the two navies. For example, the Neuse-class will have modified aviation facilities to support the ubiquitous CA101s in the Old Dominion inventory, as well as a 57mm deck gun vice a 76mm gun...[More]

Camp Taylor To High Alert
Due to recent disturbances on the Costa de las Cinco Muertes the NFTAF has placed its military bases in Buffer Zone North on high alert. According to General Seybolt the NFTAF is ‘greatly concerned’ about the recent string of massacres and attacks on peacekeepers that has taken place on the Costa. So far none of these attacks have targeted NFT troops. Asked if his forces are working with CATO and MESS authorities to apprehend those responsible for the attacks, Seybolt commented ‘we do not—we generally like to pretend they don’t exist, and thusfar the feeling seems mutual’. Trade Deal with NFT to go ahead.

In spite of the recent row over comments from the Embassy of Shroomania, a San Dorado ally, The parliament passed legislation that would integrate Indhopal into the NFT's economic community.

President Raj Ahten is quoted as saying:
"This is a great day for Indhopal. This new agreement ensures the continued prosperity of Indhopali business and is expected to create thousands of new jobs."

The President also praised a new security agreement with the NFT guaranteeing the independence of the Eastern Occidental zone as a new country.

"The Eastern Occidental shows the world that the the former CFR is not destined for endless warfare. Instead, they have a bright future ahead of them."

Meanwhile

The President of Indhopal sent a letter to the President Hank of San Dorado congratulating him on his wedding and asked when a good time for President Raj Ahten to come visiting would be.

Lander Woes

Low Earth Orbit

The ship looked like a monstrosity, a bullet-shaped Selene capsule attached to a huge bug with four legs sticking out of it in all directions. A ground technician once commented that the whole thing looked like the lunar lander was trying to suck Selene's brain out, an impression doubled by the spherical orbital module stuck between the capsule and the lander.

The weird looks of this spacecraft were nothing compared to the experience of flying it. Everyone expected something heavy, difficult to maneuver, shaky and unwieldy, but computer managed thrusters made the entire stack pivot and turn as if it was mounted on well-oiled pivots.

"Jerusalem, Six. Clear for LM powerup.", Janos Fabian, the Byzantine command pilot of the mission, reported with his steely voice. The man was an ideal poster child, with his square jaw, blue eyes and blonde hair - completely unlike most Byzantine men of dark complexion and black hair. This, incidentally, made him very popular with the ladies, as if being an astronaut wasn't enough to pick up chicks.

"We copy you clear for LM powerup, Six. Proceed when ready."

"Proceed with checklist LM-11, Hojo."

"I am initiating powerup, Commander.", the Zorian flight engineer announced and started the powerup program. Several minutes later, the lunar module was fully powered up and pressurized.

"All system read green.", Hojo reported dutifully, "We can proceed with flight testing."

Originally, freeflight LM tests were to be performed on Selene 7, but long discussion amongst the engineering staff led to the decision to augment the mission plans of Selene 6. The main LM engine was test fired more than 100 000 times on Earth, anyway,so there was little risk of something going wrong.

If something did go wrong anyway, the LM would carry spacesuits for the entire crew, and Selene was augmented with special equipment which would aid in recovery of the crew.

Work proceeded, as the capsule sped through the heavens. A carefully calculated trajectory, maintained with periodic engine maneuvers, allowed it to avoid IRT airspace. As soon as the last burn was completed, and the spacecraft wouldn't overfly Tonkin for another eighteen hours or so, the LM was detached from its mothership and slowly floated away.

"How are you guys doing in there? Getting yourselves comfy?", Alan Shroompard, serving as the mission's CAPCOM, asked from Jerusalem.

"Affirmative", was the only response.

"Damn, you people can't do witty banter at all."

"Well, excuse us for sitting on a huge engine which wasn't yet fired in vacuum. It makes people tense, you know."

"That's the spirit!"

The radio chatter was cut short when computers, both at Jerusalem and up in orbit, began counting down to engine initiation.

"Three...Two...", the soft female voice filled the small, enclosed space of the lunar module, "One...ignition."

House of Burgesses passes contentious Naval Expansion Law
The Lord Fairfax Protectorate narrowly won a political battle yesterday by passing the so-called "4th Naval Expansion Law" after extensive debate.

The Librul opposition, and quite a few of the Whigs fought against the law citing current security operations in Sirnoth as having priority over any further naval expansion. Lord Fairfax has argued that the Cortes Regime is nearly at an end, and the Old Dominion will soon be exiting Sirnoth. As of 1700 yesterday Coalition forces were 12 miles from the center of Nexus City.

Provisions of the bill included:

(1)$1.4bil ROBs spent on SOSUS improvement and expansion over the next 8 years around Shepland and designated areas of the Impact Crater.
(2)4 Predator-Cs will be acquired for testing and evaluation of the BAMS II program.
(3)4 Light Patrol Frigates of the Neuse class have been ordered, with a total of 8 planned.
(4)4 more Crawdad class SSNs have been ordered
(5)An additional 24 Model 111 CA101s purchased for naval use.
(6)3 new Stafford County class AOEs
(7)2 Tenacious Ocean Surveillance vessels
(8)1Polar Explorer-Arctic research vessel
(9)2 former Byzantine STAR DDGNs.

The Bill specifies that the programs will be completed at the end of a ten year period….[More]

Decius thought for a while, and gave a guarded answer, "We are pleased that you would accept our offer of officer exchanges. We see the virtues of joint exercises, but might I ask what purposes do you intend for Veleria itself?"

Two STAR DDGNs to be transferred to Old Dominion

The sole two STAR DDGNs will be transferred to Old Dominion for an undisclosed fee. The payment would be used to fund the laying down of another S-500F DDGN keel this year and next year.

Unofficial reports of new High MACH aircraft undergoing development.

Unofficial reports of a new high MACH aircraft has been going around in circles for many years, however, hints were given by certain sources that indicate that such an aircraft is indeed being designed but no indications on which stage of development the aircraft was at. Sources however indicated that the project development began almost as soon as the first MiG-31T completed acceptance trials.

Heir Apparent

Orena

The ambulance screamed across the city, sirens blaring, flanked by several black BOR sedans. Cars fled out of its way, lights changed as it approached, and the siren's wail bounced off the tall buildings of Downtown Orena.

The entire convoy eventually pulled into the emergency ward at the Orena Voyvodship Hospital. BOR officers spilled out of their cars and scanned the area, forming a human cordon around the ambulance as paramedics pulled over a trolley and opened the ambulance's rear door.

To their surprise, King Paul himself jumped out, without his tie or suit jacket, holding his wife's hand - and scared shitless.

"Hang on, honey!", he said. His nervous smile wasn't exactly comforting.

The paramedics helped Queen Agatha disembark and laid her down on the trolley. The entire entourage then proceeded to the maternity ward, like a moving blob. They eventually encountered the hospital's director, though, who stopped there in silent outrage.

"Jesus christ! What the hell is this?!", he shouted and waved his hands, "Give the patient space! She needs air!"

The BOR officer in charge of Queen Agatha's security detail opened his mouth to protest, but was silenced by her tormented scream.

"FOR GOD'S SAKE DO WHAT HE SAYS!"

"Easy, dear. Can we get some painkillers here?", Paul said, and then nodded to the security people, "Do what the good doctor says."

"Excellent. Now that the situation is no longer ridiculous...", the director took Agatha's chart from a paramedic, "Let's make sure the baby arrives fine and healthy. I am doctor Korzyński, m'lady, and I'll personally oversee the birth."

Maternity Ward, waiting room, half an hour later

The waiting room was always filled with dense, almost material tension. Fathers-to-be paced around, wringled their hands, read trashy magazines and made small talk with each other. Some, waiting for news during a particularly long birth, were fast asleep.

None of them expected burly BOR officers to barge in all of a sudden.

"Everyone, we will have to move you to another room, please..."

They expected even less for the King himself to come in and stop them.

"Janusz, please. We're at a hospital, if I get stabbed there's no better place for it to happen."

Prospective fathers watched with open mouth as the King walked up to a seat and sat down heavily. He turned to a man sitting besides him and shook his hand.

"Hi. Been here long?"

Result: It begins! And King Paul is scared shitless.

Costa de las Conquos Muertes
Above Baernish MSR - Ambush Site
BDA Helicopter Squadron 17

Image
The helicopters flew swiftly across the Costan countryside, inspiring worried glances from local farmers. After all, it was not every day that a full squadron of attack helicopters traveled in formation over this area. In point of fact, the last time had been a year ago, in support of the initial Baernish advance into the Costa.

At the ambush site, two Chinooks peeled off, setting down near a burning jeep and disgorging a squad of troops and several medics. Those troopers not evaced on the earlier chopper were loaded into these ones, while the others fanned out in the direction the enemy had been reported as moving in.

The BDA was going hunting.

Image
One chopper went down for a close look at the river. It spotted some movement in the forest, and radioed the information back to Stark in the lead Apache. He ordered three of the transport helicopters to set down.
Image
Their troop complements moved into the jungle, keeping their eyes open for movement, while the remaining choppers, afour Apaches and another pair of Chinooks, circled overhead.

On the ground, the first sign of the enemy was a muddy boot print about fifty feet into the forest from where the chopper had spotted movement. The Baernish troops picked up their pace, certain that something worthwhile had been found.

The lance corporal who verified that opinioin did not, unfortunately, live long enough to appreciate his discovery. He was cut almost in half by a Claymore mine perhaps five hundred meters into the jungle. Instantly, the undergrowth came alive with muzzle flashes as hidden enemies opened fire on the Baernish soldiers. Dropping to the ground, most of them returned fire, sending grenades and bullets whipping through the foliage. Several, however, did something which produced a much larger degree of carnage: 2nd Squad's radioman signaled the Apache closest to their position to unload a full complement of missiles at the foe.

Dozens of explosions rippled towards the enemy, leaving screams and burning trees in their wake. A following fusillade of gunfire from the chopper and the footsoldiers tore through the enemy ranks, leaving only a few men to run past their screaming, bleeding companions towards a camouflaged helicopter that had been revealed by the barrage - Only to be cut down by another line of Claymores that detonated only meters from the chopper. It then took off, and the Baernish troops glimpsed perhaps a dozen men through the open doors of the Japanistani-model transport helicopter.

IN GODDAMN UNREAL TIME

At the Conference...

Foreign Minister Vladimir Berman stood up and gave a speech.

"Gentlemen, the Old Dominion agrees in principle with the ICSA and a international law enforcement agency that maintains a database of dangerous criminals. However, we shall not surrender any of our sovereignty in the name of 'international oversight', be it a global New World Order organization, or attempting to bind us with ludicrous treaties that band 'territorial expansion'. Such a phrase is so ambiguously worded that we may find ourselves stripped of the Shepistani security zone! No, such treaties are worthless and a joke. San Dorado, excuse me, the NFT has already shown what they think of international treaties with the Bioterror outbreak several years back in their country. It is the belief of the Old Dominion that nations will be nations and we would be fools to artificially restrain ourselves."
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

The Costas

Major Van Der Kade had positioned the rebel troops under his command around the exit points of the valley once he got wind of the Bearnish operation. Why not let them do the dirty work of driving the Mystery Force into his ambush parties?

Meanwhile Butch and his Mushroom marines weren’t about to be just sitting on their ass while everything was going done. Since Van Der Kade was ostensibly Ortega’s ground commander to them, he had to take what Butch said seriously. Fortunately what Butch had wanted to do made sense.

He set up on observation post overlooking the valley so his team could intercept the Mystery Froce if they broke contact with the Bearnish. Van Der Kade sent his four man SRG team to accompany them.

As they watched the battle unfold it looked to them like the mystery guests were finished. Then they say the helicopter that the Mystery guests had boarded.

“They got to the chopper!”
Yelled Butch.

It was well out of range of their weapons. They were able to get a tail number though.

“Send a message to command. Tell everyone to be on the look out for that chopper!”

Butch stomped the ground, frustrated as the unmarked, older-model Mi-17 lifted away, cleanly evading all attempts to bring it down. He punched a tree in anger, causing a small rain of fruit to rain down around and upon him, increasing his rage. He kicked a fruit, sending it flying.

Suddenly, the radio crackled.

"This is Butch!" he said, "Tell me you have something on that choppah!"
"Almost immediately" the TOC radioman said back, "Too easy. And we found out why. That tail number you gave us is registered to the WTXN news helicopter in Tian Xia. They do traffic reports for Hong Kong news."

"Dammit!" Butch yelled, tossing the radio on th eground. "Damn it to hell!" He paced, angrily, and kicked a boot.

A boot?

He looked. It was a boot, alright, and he had both of his on. He pushed aside some brush and saw that the boot still had a foot in it, and that foot was connected to... a body.

A body in non-descript olive drab fatugues, with a Canissian-issue boot, and commercially-available web gear.

"What is zis?" Butch asked, "I haff found a body! I think it is one of zem!"

They pulled away the brush to examine the body. Like the one reported earlier, by the roadside, it was a white male in his thirties, with a very military appearance about him.

"Ve haff two confirmed enemy body count," Butch said into his radio, picking it back up again. "Maybe ve can find out who these guys really are..."

Commissioner Duquesne lazily leaned forward to activate her microphone. "It worries us", she casually injected, "that the Old Dominion representative would be so thoroughly uninformed on matters of international importance. For the information of the other representatives gathered here, BIOCOM at the time found us to be in full compliance with international guidelines, regardless of what Old Dominion scaremongerers would have you believe. I'm sure the Wilkonian representative will be most happy to confirm this." She paused briefly, then continued. "The incident to which the misguided Old Dominion representative is referring also took place pre-incorporation, so it is hardly fitting to blame the NFT, which after all did not exist at the time. Thank you; that will be all for now."

Fucking unreal time

Eric Doyle activated his mic: "despite the legalistic sophistry that Commissioner Duquesne continues to spout, Tian Xia maintains that the NFT is responsible for all legal obligations that existed in both Coilerburg and San Dorado pre-incorporation, including BIOCOM, the Frequesque Neutrality pact, and the fourth Convention on the Laws of War. As such, it, along with Baerne are in violation of their treaty obligations, with respect to the introduction of foreign forces, given that there is no defined method in the Frequesque Neutrality pact to withdraw from the treaty."

Slightly Somewhat Unreal Time

"With all due respect, Mr. Doyle," Charlie Duquesne replied sarcastically, "the official position of the NFT is that we are not beholden to the terms of the Neutrality Pact for reasons that are well known to you all. As such it is my solemn duty to cordially tell you to stuff it, for we no longer consider us subject to the Pact regardless of what your Emperor may think. Your Emperor who, I might add, never signed or ratified the treaty either. I furthermore would like to remind you that San Doradan troops have been present on the Costa de las Cinco Muertes since 1979, so if His Worshipfulness the Huang-Di wishes to object to their presence he's a bit late to do so, wouldn't you agree?"

"Commissioner," Boomed Vladimir Berman "Since you have so casually tossed FTO to the wind, are we to assume that you've tossed BIOCOM as well? It would, after all, make your weapons programs much easier to develop without nasty little things like 'legality', in the way, wouldn't it?"

Less real time!

"Right, you didn't want to have to follow the terms so that you could abandon the very organization you spearheaded, and leave it to wither. Of course the sovereign Empire of Tian Xia didn't sign that idiotic pact. There was much to lose, and nothing to gain from doing so. Yet, we did act as if the strictures of the pact applied until your own nation decided to invite further foreign forces into Frequesque.

"It was doomed from the start anyways. There are ways to have done what you wanted, but that wasn't one of them. Of course, those ways would have required a will, which was sorely lacking. We don't object to the San Doradan presence in the northern buffer zone of Costa. We do object to the way you sold out your allies in order to become the lapdog of the Communists. Conveniently for you, there is no enforcement provision in the pact, so there are no consequences to your blatant and unrepentant violations of the pact."
