Very well, we respect your wishes.

Shadow Citizens celebrate Red Technocracy's entry into the FUN

Image

Shadow citizens celebrate the RT's entry into the FUN. The people who are still recovering from the recent civil war, were in need of good news and this was great news. Our socialist brothers unified in the same glorious alliance.

FUN CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN THE SHADOW EMPIRE

The conference is to be held in the imperial beach resort. And most of the FUN leadership will be present, those who are unable to attend personally will be there through a video link.

The security around the imperial beach resort is high. Members of the Baerne and Shadow militaries are securing the facility and The Emperors own Death Guard is present.

Dong Ha Naval Base

It was time. One of the Republic's older freighters, long since decommissioned from any commercial fleet or merchant marine, slipped out under escort. Apparently loaded down with containers, it nevertheless looked unusually high in the water for any trained eyes. There was nothing to be done: the cargo of several barges, the latticework for an expendable tower, the necessary cranes and everything else to support this mission were already loaded. Forming up under escort with other freighters, the ships began steaming, a constant eye on the weather ...

Tonkin Ministry of Energy

"This had better work. We are far behind the major power blocs, having to go it ourselves, and production severely constrained. We cannot afford another delay with ratcheting tensions around the world ..."

Tonkin Space Development Agency

HUE - The IRT has formally offered the sale of its advanced Falcon rocket family to the Fungal United Nations as well as infrastructure development. Development has continued on the Falcon 9 and Falcon 9 Heavy rocket configurations; with increased funding through commercial and government launch purchases and investment the IRT's nascent space program may well be able to compete favorably with other foreign launch agencies ...

Standard Missile Family

Joint development with Tian Xia continues on the Standard Missile family of anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems. These advanced missile systems have proven experience defending the Incorporated Republic from air threats as well as the many of the world's navies. Unlike the Airbeard project, the Standard Missile is proven, available now and has guaranteed support.

Meanwhile, back in "Real Time"

King Arik Coyotus-I stepped into the halls of power of the Red Technocracy. He met the Foreign Minister, running up to greet him.

"Apologies, your Highness," he said, looking a bit flustered, "Our apologies that the Chairman himself is unable to meet you..." Arik smiled.

"Don't worry about it," he said, "I landed my zeppelin in the OMSK and by the time I get out of my videoconference and get on the tarmac, I'm in the FUN. I think it's rather... invigorating, really. Congratulations-- it is a bold and wise move, I think." The foreign minister smiled, glad to be eased out of a potentially troublesome spot.

"Well, certainly tensions are still at an all-time high," he said, "Some of the things you may have wanted to talk about may no longer be valid, given the change in government..."

"No big deal," Arik said, "I can still stop by-- re-affirm old ties and friendships, eh? Fly the Good Neighbor Policy up the flagpole and see who salutes it?"
"What were the parameters of that again?" the Minister asked.
"Canissia vows never to use WMDs on any neighbor, no matter how bad relations may get or how fierce any future wars may be. I pretty much want to make the area around our little sea a WMD-use-free zone."

"A nuclear free zone in particular?" the Minister asked.
"No, we'd have WMDs, I suppose, troublesome though they are. But we would never use them on each other. I guess now that your government has joined the FUN, the whole thing really is more of a quaint formality now, really, but I think the symbolism still rings clear."

"Well, there is opportunity for greater regional cooperation, especially with the Bear Republic," the Minister said, thinking through many potential ramifications of the governmental shift. Arik smiled warmly.

"Remember, sir-- Canissia and the Red Technocracy were the first countries to build a bridge, literally, between our peoples. May it be so in many other ways, as well..."

"I might feel better about it." Lonestar muttered, thinking about his shoulder and head.

"Look at who we're dealing with," Arik said, "Seriously. For Shep, nukes are not 'special' weapons, to be held back as a last resort. They're just bigger bombs, and there's nothing wrong with them. He will use them. If we are absolutely determined to go through with this, then the best thing we can do is first-strike Saddamistan and Shepnukistan and try to remove them from the equation as much as possible."

"I think the International Community would be a mite peeved at us if we did that," Wilkens said dryly. "Besides, Shep has sufficient knowledge of esoteric delivery systems there is no doubt in my mind we'd miss more than a few."

"Well then," Arik said "It goes back to having limited choices, doesn't it? And if all the choices are bad...why should we pick the most damaging one anyway?"

"We could," Beowulf mused "Just say 'fuck it' and start arming our own faction on TL. The Sultan, perhaps."

"I'm sorry," Ender interjected "But didn't this all start as a result of the Sultan's fatwa on the LSR?" He looked over at Lonestar.

"I have to say, I agree with Ender. I don't like the idea of feeding the hand that bites you."

"We can have an unfortunate accident happen to the Sultan and install a more cooperative member of his family. Might as well make it a proxy war." Beowulf said.

"Or let him land the gear and just bomb the equipment once it's issued to Ramsey's army." Deathdealer said.

"Shep has advisers in the archdiocese, we run the risk of killing them." RI said.

""He hasn't publically announced that, at the moment he's keeping up the fiction of the 'Human Foundation' or whatever the Hell it's called." Beowulf said. "Alternatively, we could start mining every port in Ramsey's territory, no matter what the claims are about his sealift is, getting the stuff unloaded would be a bitch. Especially as Shep hasn't built any amphibs or RoRos since our arrival."

"If we mine every port in Ramsey's territory, it would stop legitimate traffic from going in." RI said.

"Well then," Lonestar said cheerfully, "I guess then we would have to occupy a Sultanate port and airfield along the border and declare it a safe zone/port of entry, huh? Just throwing out all the options we have. Which are significantly more than 'let convoy pass' and 'shoot convoy, start war.'"

TELECONFERENCE (In that weird "suspended time" these things seem to go into)

"I think just playing the rival-faction game is fine," Arik said, "I don't like it and find it abominable, but it's better than global thermonuclear war, which is not only what Shep is willing to do, he actually wants it. Let the concerned parties duke it out."

"That'll give us a public relations problem, you know," Lonestar pointed out, "We'll be escalating the situation."

"It's not as bad a black eye as we'll all get if we intercept or sink a convoy that will play right into Shep's & Skim's hands," Arik said, "Conventional war, we can hammer them. Everyone knows it. This will not stay conventional because for them, it is impossible. They have no recourse but to go WMD on this.

"Picking a side and backing them is evil, but it is the lesser of many evils on the combo plate."

The Emperor was not amused. Speaking to the video conference unit, "Didn't the Sultan last withdraw the fatwa, and at this moment, half of his population just went over to the rival general, and the other half with him? Also, are we willing to commit to building an elaborate fortress with the necessary defence systems to ward off hundreds or thousands of raving lunatics when we occupy the port or whatever?"

Address to the people give by Prime Minster Spencer
October 10th 2010

"Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with a heavy heart that I must report as of today at noon that OMSK is no more. With the the abrupt departure of so many member nations the mutual security of OMSK is no more. No longer does OMSK occupy a preeminent defensive, scientific or economic position in the world. The UKB can not maintain this alliance without it's fellow founder the Red Technocracy."

Make no mistake the close ties with former OMSK nations will remain, to the citizens of The Duchy of Langley, the people of the Republic of Vuplesia, and the The Kingdom of New Patria and Zoria, our special relationship remains unchanged. Former rights and trading privileges will be maintained under separate new treaties directly between our countries. If your countries should chose to sign those treaties, then our relationship continues as before.

Should the countries wish to break off relations with the UKB we will be grieved to hear such news and urge strongly that they reconsider. But ultimately their decision is on their respective governments.

It is with a heavy heart that I must make official, of the alliance founded in peace and mutual defense to be dissolved because of the fragmentation of our security council.

As for ourselves, rest easy people of the UKB. We will not court war one way by joining the Unified Atomic Republic's. Nor war the other way by joining the Massive Entanglement of Survivalist States. These two great alliances will come to war some day. Even now UAC and the Mess struggle over Terra Libertia, a war-torn country which until eight months ago was on it's way to peace. Now the formerly peaceful territories of Lord Ramsley and Supreme General Alexander are braced for war, while the Sultanate has collapsed into complete anarchy.

Not everyone knows, but there was a time when Bzyantium, the Red Technocracy and the UKB were involved in crafting a peace in Terra Libertia, but with the interference of both Saddamstain and the Mess such a peace is now impossible. We wash our hands of the affair, unless both Warlords come to us again seeking peace we will send no aid, nor bother with that country.

Nor will we join the Fungal Union of Nations, while we maintain trade relations with FUN nations we do not want the issue of mutual defense to that many smaller countries. As demonstrated by the recent attempted overthrow of the Shadow Empire or even the older anarchy of Syndromia, not even FUN nations are peaceful. And the last thing this countries needs is to be tied down in a long term anti-partisan in some other country.

No we will go our own way, the UKB is as of this day by proclamation of King and country ... an Unaligned nation. Bound only by our treaties to various individual countries and our "special relationships" with some of those same countries.

On this the tenth of October, the two thousand and tenth year of our Lord, In a decision ratified by both the Commons and the House of Lords, signed by both myself and the King... OMSK... OMSK is no more, that which was, is no more.

Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen, and God Bless the King.

Imperial Chronicles

"To be honest sire, any hope of a simple peace in Terra Libertia long ago died when Ramsley double crossed us, and now both Ramsley and Alexander is receiving armaments aimed at destroying the Sultanate. Either we give the Sultanate arms, or we let the Sultanate die, along with millions of other people. We are dealing with the lesser of evil choice here."

"I know that, but I don't like it. What is the current sentiment in the Diocese?"

"There is confusion about the lay people and the priests. The shock of the pronouncement is settling in. We don't know how Ramsley will react. The most pessimistic view is, an excommunication will deny Shepnukistan temporarily the use of Ramsley to attack the Sultanate. But Alexander remains a problem. No one has any lever on him, and he has always been reluctant to pursue peace. I'm not sure how Shepnukistan even managed to convince both parties to go along in this adventure."

"What it is, I think, as you said, our options are short. Either we pursue a proxy war, or let millions die. Even a civil war in the Diocese will lead to blood shed. Our options are limited."

"We could use that peace conference to forward our views to the Sultan and the General and get them to reconcil."

"Perhaps, assuming our friends in MESS don't go around too trigger happy and shoot the Sultan and the General both. Then we will be dealing with a headless chicken that with its neck bared for the slaughter house."

[OOC: NEEEEWS!!!!]

LIVE on ShroomSatTV
The Sovereign Shroomanian Sentinel
OMSK OVER

The United Kingdom of Blackadder has just announced the dissolution of the OMSK Pact. Though this development has been expected by political analysts worldwide, the effects are nonetheless staggering and drastic. The OMSK Pact was the preeminent power bloc of the New World, originally founded by the superpower triumvirate of the Red Technocracy, the United Kingdom of Blackadder, and Shepnukistan.

Analysts believe that the dissolution came with the now-apparent internal fragmentation of the three dominant nations over the crucial issues of Terra Libertia and the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Empire of Saddamistan, as each nation had decisively different plans and intentions regarding both international hot topics that only underscored the growing incompatibility of the 'Three Greats of the OMSK'. Shepnukistani ultimately went on to forge an entirely unexpected alliance with Saddamistan, creating the Unified Atomic Republic.

Nonetheless, it is generally agreed upon that this marks an end of an era.

"This marks an end of an era," Prime Minister Shroom said in an address to the Fungal Union of Nations. "It is a historic moment, and a regrettable loss. The OMSK Pact was founded on noble principles, and together, the OMSK nations achieved great things, including the first manned space flight in the New World's history, and the foundation of Atlantis - the place of peace.

"Nonetheless, life must go on, and the Sovereignty of Shroomania and the Fungal Union of Nations extends the hand of friendship and cooperation to the United Kingdom of Blackadder and all the former-OMSK nations that are currently unaligned. We respect your choice, to take the road of independence and non-obligation, and as always - the FUN's charter of trade, diplomacy, and security reaches to your nations as well. May there be peace and prosperity for us all, despite these dark times."

Shroomanian analysts believe that the FUN's individual relationships with the former-OMSK nations will remain unchanged. The Sovereignty of Shroomania continues to be a major investor in the United Kingdom of Blackadder's space program, and both Shroomania and the UKB are world leaders in the field of communications and global media. The UKB has worked together with the FUN nations to provide quality space-based services such as ShroomSatTV, and the VulpSats, and both have cooperated to battle the extensive piracy plaguing the Central Sea.

Prime Minister Shroom is currently heading to the Shadow Empire, where the Fungal Union of Nations will have its first-ever conference to discuss a myriad of topics including the global implications of the dissolution of the OMSK, the creation of a 'Security Council', and the FUN's place in the New World's new order.

CANISSIAN PARLIAMENT RECOGNIZES UKB NEUTRALITY
Foreign Minister Ren Lars today issued a proclamation recognizing the United Kingdom of Blackadder as a nation bound my no alliances such as OMSK, FUN, or others.

"Despite repeated mischaracterisations of the MESS alliance, our stated goals and ideals, the UKB is bore no ill will and it is hoped that individual sovereignty will provide a welcome period of relief from past responsibilities in turbulent political waters."

The Defense Minister, Ral Tenn, was less magnanimous.

"The UKB thought it was perfectly fine to spread lies and falsehoods about MESS intent in the world's hotspots, all while double-dealing with the very enemy they claimed to stand against. Now, without the skirts of OMSK to hide behind as they engaged in loose bellicosity, they'll have to pick their words a little more carefully and think about what they're saying. A little time-out for humility is long overdue."

King Arik Coyotus-I, on a diplomatic mission to the Red Technocracy, downplayed the Defense Minister's words.

"Blackadder did what he thought best with the cards that were dealt him at the time," King Coyotus-I said, "What do nations, and national leaders, do? They look out for the best interests of their country, their people. If King Blackadder didn't occasionally ruffle others' feathers, then he wouldn't be doing his job. We should not gloat over the breakup of OMSK; the amazing scientific and economic potential of that alliance was healthy for all the peoples of the world."

CODED/ENCRYPTED MESSAGE FROM PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CANISSIA TO ALL MESS MEMBERS

I say we give some time for the UKB to cool off and then we extend an invitation for joint space efforts with them. They still have a lot of leftover space infrastructure and investment that should not go to waste. I think this is important to quickly soothe over hard feelings and get the troubles behind us, or we'll have yet another large, powerful nation feeling alienated and looking for a dramatic way to shore up sagging pride.

New Commanding Officer over the glorious BAMFs!.

Duke-Colonel Schäfer new commander of the BAMF-company after the previous commander was shot to death by a six year old shortly after arriving in the Shadow Empire.

Some say that he is a "hyper-masculine, egotistical, machismo-filled womanizer" but
he's colleges describe him as a simple, caring soul that only hurt those that bad mouthing him.

The Duke-Colonel was ennobled by the High Lord after taking out a BTR-60 in single combat armed only with his standard issue bayonet and boots. He later mounting a heroic liberation of a warehuse and its content in Sarajevo.

However, critics claim that there is no way a man can stand up to and beat a BTR-60 in singel combat.
They regard this simple propaganda to make a hero and posterboy for the BAMFs. We have tried to reach Schäfer for a comment but so far without any succes. His adjutant says that the Dukes only comment regarding the issue is "You're an inspiration for birth control!"

It is popular believed that his nickname comes from his Shepnukeistani heritage and his general attitude to Libertopia ("Nukem 'till they glow, then shoot 'em in the dark!") but he himself says it from a supervillian from his favorite cartoon series (Captain Planet and the Planeteers).

The Shroomanian Scientific Society
DEEPSPACE DONUTS

Image
Corporate scientists test a donut.

Scientists over at the MacMillan Multicorporation have proposed the use of inflatable habitats to create the New World's first-ever orbital space station.

The United Kingdom of Blackadder has recently announced its intentions to begin a space station, and the MacMillan Multicorporation has expressed interest in contributing to the UKB's efforts. The previous joint corporate Shroomanian-UKB space venture was the creation of the highly profitable ShroomSatTV network, and MacMillan may be looking for a similarly beneficial venture in the near future.

Though there have been rumors of Shroomania leading the FUN to begin its own space program independent of the UKB, rumors that seemed justified by the Shroomanian government's leasing of the Comona Islands to the Zorian Royal Aerospace Research group, the Shroomanian government has stated that it is continuing its commitments its various joint space projects with the UKB. Aside from Shroomania, the Republic Vulpesia is also working with the UKB in the development and refinement of its VulpSat technology.

The Shroomanian government has officially supported the MacMillan Deepspace Donut project and has given it funding.

Lelouch turned off his TV and spun around in his chair to face Schneizel, Clovis, and Cornelia. "Well, it's official," he said. "OMSK is indeed no more."

"Looks like The Ashford Times can finally print that article after all," Cornelia said. "Joining the MESS is still off the table, though. With the current military and political climate, the risks far outweigh what little advantages we stand to gain from such an alliance."

"Kinda makes us glad we had joined the FUN back when it was still the FUNGAL AXIS, doesn't it?" Clovis asked rhetorically.

"In any case, we should be leaving for that conference in Sarajevo soon," Lelouch said to his older siblings. "The Combat Talon's waiting."

Wesley after waking up looked at the news about the OMSK. He said, "Farewell OMSK, I knew ye well.". He then walked to his office in his house and picked up the phone, calling Stas. He just wanted to check up on how he's doing now in the FUN. At the same time he smiled and thought, "Maybe this world will become what Old Earth never could; a world of peace and tolerance.".

BBC News at Northern Sultanate

"Jihadist Rebel General Zahedi today agreed the proposal from Sultan Ibrahim to extend the cease fire due to the upcoming observance of Ramadan. According to the agreement this means a total of 28 days.

"Troops on both sides seem quite relieved after this announcement, since it was expected that after the 1 week cease fire serious fighting would occur. Senior officers from both sides have participated in the 'Ramadan Conflict' 20 years ago. To some officers the symbolization of this month is more military than Muslim."

Sultanate Civil Peace Conference to be Held in St. George

It is with great pleasure today that we announce The Most Curious Kingdom of Saint George has agreed to host a peace conference between the warring factions in the Terra Libertian Sultanate. Representitives from the MESS and FUN are reported to have given assurances of attendance as well.

The Shinra Republic hopes that this is the first step on the path to a lasting peace for the peoples of the Sultanate, and all of Terra Libertia.

From the Shinra Republic Foreign Ministry

He saw the utterly shocked expressions of his cohorts, and smiled. "Let me explain..."

Mid-Month Security Meeting

TS/REC--August 30th Meeting Transcript--TS/REC

In physical Attendance:
His Grace King Joseph Blackadder the VI
Prime Minster, Charles Spencer
Speaker of the Commons, George Martin
Lord Speaker, Lord Richard Wolsey
Director of Intelligence, Horace Granger

[Horace Granger]And... we are the record, for history, again no meeting last month due to the crisis.

[George Martin]When did this official record get started anyway?

[Charles Spencer]1992 we started and we've been keeping the records every meeting since then. They keep both a audio copy and a transcript, six people in MI-3 handle it and the records are kept secure in vaults in the Capital and in two other locations.

[George Martin]And the other two locations?

[Horace Granger]Not even I know that,

[Blackadder the VI]I know, at least one of the two locations

[Charles Spencer]And I know the other. There as safe as can be, and the security on them makes it impossible to steal the records. There've got better protection than any of us do to be sure.

[Richard Wolsey]Which has been on my mind thank you for bringing it up Charles

[Charles Spencer]What's that Rich?

[Richard Wolsey]Protection, it's dangerous to be a World Leader right now, the Lonestar incident is less than a month old remember. How worried should we be about Jihads.

[Horace Granger]Not that much my Lord, for one we don't appear to be on their Radar, our dealings have been quiet but highly respectful for Saddamstain, and Liberaltopias they know what will happen to the Sultanate if make an attack.

[Blackadder the VI]"I will annihilate your army, I will burn your cities, I will drive your women and children out of their hiding places and poison the land so that nothing will ever grow there again. And when people speak of you they will gnash their teeth and wail at the memory a thousand years from now"

[Richard Wolsey]Who said that?

[Horace Granger]His Grace did when Ibrahim tried to talk tough to us and threatened to shoot the ambassador Minster Koji sent to show he meant business.

[Richard Wolsey]You did what?

[Blackadder the VI]You kill my people you pay, if they brand me a murdering genocide so be it. I've got a few of those in my family tree. There's a fundamental line they you do not cross with my country. One is shooting my diplomats.

[George Martin]Why did I never hear about this?

[Charles Spencer]Because Ibrahim backed down, and we stopped attempting to talk to him. And he's left us alone.

[George Martin]We caught his Pirates attacking our ships why did we not go to war?

[Blackadder the VI]That's different I don't expect him to be perfect. It's one thing to try to fund your little activities via some Piracy, got some of that in my linage too remember George? The response to Piracy is one thing, we send in a fleet we smash them to hell, everyone goes home. But shooting a diplomat or Ambassador is an automatic act of total war. Same thing with using a WMD against any UKB citizens. Those are the only two actions that can touch off total war.

[Richard Wolsey]That I know, but you should have told us when that happened.

[Blackadder the VI]Why Rich to stroke your ego? It was irrelevant at that point in time. The only reason I bring it up now is to demonstrate that we need fear nothing from the Jihades, at least officially, one lone nut is always one lone nut. And the General leading the rebellion against Ibrahim was present for our exchange, I don't think he's forgotten either.

[Charles Spencer]Gentlemen were getting off topic

[Horace Granger]And we do have two issues left which much be decided today.

[Charles Spencer]Yes, one is the Embassy in Saddamstain, the second is the military.

[Blackadder the VI]I think a quick yay nay vote. I vote yay

[Richard Wolsey]Nay with reservations

[George Martin]Yay also with reservations

[Blackadder the VI]Charles?

[Charles Spencer]I'll hold my vote, Richard?

[Richard Wolsey]It's simple, yes we could use an embassy, but we should have opened it weeks ago and just taken the PR hit and be done with it. I'd like one but it's just getting worse and worse in Public opinion, I know the Liberals will go right down the middle being pissed were talking with someone who killed over 2000 refugee's, and the other half will be pissed were not talking to them yet.

[George Martin]Those were my thoughts as well, but I believe simply having a line open is better than no line

[Charles Spencer]So be it, We already have the ship ready, I'll dispatch her along with four of the soon to be decom'd Halfaxes

[Blackadder the VI]Think we might make a show of it? Send all ten to escort the Embassy ship then drop them off with various Goverments? Have C-130's standing by to fly the crews home?

[Horace Granger]We'll at least we can get the crews working on getting them in shape and ensuring all the classified material is off before they sail or is hand-carry-able off the ship.

[Charles Spencer]I like it, good thought your Majesty, But I see a flaw in your plan

[Blackadder the VI]And that is...

[Charles Spencer]Buyers?

[Blackadder the VI]Damn... I suppose we could slap 50% off stickers on their sides and drive them slow by the FUN nations?

[George Martin]As amusing as that images is, I believe the Prime Minister is right, that's two with one stone, we announce the ten Halifax's and quietly announce the embassy at the same time.
