OOC: This is a very long post. If you don't have the time to read it, you might just as well skip towards the end.

ISD II Invidious

Leona Tavira had had a very bad day already. Her pirate force had already lost half its strength in that battle with the Remnant. After reviewing the files, she had concluded that the Remnant must have laid a trap for her. It was quite an old trick as well -. have a heavy ship jump a few minutes behind the convoy to lure the pirates in and then deliver the killing blow. Imperial intelligence must have had neutralized her own spies on Axum in order for this to happen. I was overconfident and getting to lax. Where the kriff am I supposed to find new fighters? And if those torpedoes had not malfunctioned....

Whatever brooding Tavira was doing at the moment was rudely interrupted by the general alarm being sounded. Apparenlty, her troubles had not even begun.

Allegiance-class command ship Loyalty

The Imperial forces jumped into the system right outside the turbolaser range thanks to the telemetry feed from the sensors attached to Tavira's ship. While the Interdictor cruiser Constrainer brought its gravity generators online, the ISDIIs Eviscerator and Majestic launched their fighters. Leaving them behind to protect the interdictor, the two Star Destroyers then fell into formation besides the Loyalty.

On the bridge, Daine Jir took a look at the tactical readout. The pirate fleet, being composed of the surviving Strike Cruiser Red Nova, the CR-90 corvette Backstab, the gunship Lazerlord, the Bulk Cruiser Booty Full and the ISD-II Invidious, was clustered around a small base on one of the moons orbiting a gas giant. It was also clear that the Empire had caught them with their pants down, so to speak, for there now was a flurry of activity, with shuttles coming from the surface and heading towards the pirate fleet.

None of that would save the pirates as even if they had been combat-ready, they still would have been outgunned four to one. And with them having no fighter support at all, their situation was even more dire.

This time, a demand for surrender was broadcast. “Attention, pirate fleet. This is Field Marshal Daine Jir. You are outgunned and outmaneuvered. Surrender your ships and yourself to the Empire now and your lives will be spared. If you do not, you will be destroyed without hesitation or mercy. I await your surrender within the next five standard minutes.”

On the bridge of the Invidious, Tavira was pacing. It was true, she was outnumbered. There was little chance of them getting out of here and she didn't think for once that Jir would keep his word. Unless...she had something to bargain which. “Open a private channel to the Marshal, my com unit only”.

Soon, the private comm units of the two ships were lit by holograms of the two opponents. Seeing the rumpled uniform of his opponent, Jir barely could keep himself from smirking. “Tavira. Have you come to beg?” “On the contrary. I have come to offer you a deal.”

Jir chuckled. Whatever else she may be, the 25-year old was certainly no coward. “I am listening.” “I want free passage for my ships and their crews as well as a sum of 200.000 credits to be disposited in a location of my chosing.”

Jir's smile faded and this time there was steel in his voice when he replied: “Guns, destroy the Lazerlord

The Lazerlord was the smallest of Tavira's ship, a corellian gunship. Renowned for their bite in anti-fighter combat, they still were unable to stand in the line of battle – a fact that was once more proven when the Loyalty's guns lashed out and turned the ship into a miniature sun with one salvo.

Tavira's facade began to crack for a split second, but then immediately composed herself. “You want to stop destroying my ships when I can fire a turbolaser barrage any second.”

“You are more deluded than I had previously imagined. You have no chance of penetrating my shields. Guns, destroy the - “ “It is not aimed at you. It is aimed at the moon and trust me, you really don't want me to press the trigger.”

Momentarily disabling the connection on his end, Jir quickly brought up the sensor images of the moon. It looked like nothing special – a bit of infrastructure to refuel starships and a small colony of people. Mostly humans, from the looks of it. In short, nothing special. He reconnected the communication. “Why should I care what happens to your supporters?”

“Because they are not my supporters, Marshal – and because they are force-users. I think the empire can use some, considering you have a sith empire next to you? And I don't think you get many jedi these days, do you? So here's my offer – I turn them over to you and you let me go.”

Jir's mind was racing. On the one hand, force users were a necessary asset if the Remnant wanted to have any chance against the Sith. On the other hand, there was no way he could let the pirates go free. “Tavira, is your crew listening?” The assumed Moff snorted. “What do you take me for, a fool?”

“Good. Here is my final offer. You will turn over all your ships and surrender yourself to Imperial authorities. You will then be given a new identity and placed under house arrest in a luxury suite on Ord Cantrell. The Empire will pay your expenses as long as you live, provided you turn over all booty from your raids and turn all files on your crews over to Imperial authorities.” “But -” “Last offer. There are not enough force-users in the galaxy that you could bribe me with that would convince me to let you get away.”

Tavira seemd to consider this offer and after looking at Jir for a long time, she nodded. “What happens to my crew?” “Do you care?” “Some of them have...talents I might require.” “I don't give a kriff. This offer is for you and for you alone. Don't try my patience any further.”

Tavira sighed and all the energy seemed to have left her body. Or so it looked – Jir had heard enough about her to not believe this was not an act. “Very well, Marshal. I am your prisoner.” With a gesture of submission – one that she made sure displayed ample cleavage – she shut off her comm unit.

Jir's smirk meanwhile was back in full strength. Two minutes and that snake is already trying to seduce me. But he had more pressing matters to attend than to spent further time musing on it. “Bridge. Ready boarding teams for all ships and tell the Imperial legal service that we have over fourty-thousands prisoners that require processing.”

Five hours later
Not many pirates had believed Tavira's assurances that the Empire would not harm them. But faced with running a gauntlet composed of two fighter wings, two ISD-IIs and one Allegiance-class command ship, most of them had elected to surrender. Only the corvette Backstab had chosen to try to outrun the Imperial ships. In theory, it was a good plan – use the moon as cover and use the superior speed to get away before Imperial ships caught up with them. However, as the Backstab immediately became the target of every ion cannon in the Imperial fleet, the plan never had a chance to come to fruition. One by one, the pirate ships had been boarded and the crews taken into custody. The Invidious with its crew of former Imperial soldiers had been most cooperative, while others had been less so. Tavira herself had been taken into custody and was now transfering files to the computer databanks of the Loyalty from her quarters. The pirate ships had been crewed with prize crews and had moved out of orbit to ready themselves for departure.

Which left the Loyalty in orbit, providing cover while Marshal Jir was heading for the surface of the moon in a Lambda-class shuttle.

Suarbi 5

The town – if one used to the cityscape of Coruscant could call it that – was deserted as Jir and his Red Guard escort walked from the shuttle into what could only be described as the town plaza near the former Governer's palace. But someone who had survived as many ground battles as he and someone who survived being Vader's aide-de-camp for as long as he did knew when to trust his instincts. Rising an amplifier disc to his lips, he called out, his voice booming from the walls of the houses. “I am Marshal Jir of the Imperial Remnant. Please identify a representative.”

As if on response, the plaza around him lit up with lightsabers of all colours and about twelve figures clad in sith-like armour stepped forward. Jir's guards dropped into combat pose around him at the sight, but Jir himself recovered quickly enough to call out to his troops to hold fire, seeing that the Jensaarai stopped short of the Yalsamiri bubble and made no move to attack. Instead, they held their weapons at the ready and had dropped into parrying stances. Jir was remembering one time when he had been privy to Vader's combat practice. They are preparing to repel blasterbolts. They are not here to attack – they are here to defend. They think I am the attacker.

“I come with an offer of peace and friendship.” Was he only imagining it or were some of them chuckling behind their helmets?

“We already lived through both of it and have no desire to experience it again.” The voice, female and strong, was directed towards him, but it was impossible to find out who had spoken.

“I am unfamiliar with the history of this planet. Rest assured, we do not want to harm you.” “That is what Vader said – and then came the Inquisitors. They too came with promises – and we suffered.”

Jir nodded. So this had just been one of the numerous cleanup operations undertaken by the Inquisitors. But whoever had been in charge of exterminating this particular group had certainly failed. “The Inquisitorius has been disbanded. There are no Inquisitors among the Imperial forces anymore.” “It doesn't matter. You are Imperial. You cannot be trusted.”

The Marshal took a look around him and weighed his chances. They were not that good – for neither of them. If the warriors decided to charge, they would be cut down – but there was a high chance of him being killed by a lightsaber was quite high, Yalsamiri or not. But if he would be killed then his ship would exterminate the whole settlement. In that light the Jensaarai deployment made no sense at all. Why would they risk their forces out in the open when they could just as well run and hide? And then it struck him. They must have guessed Tavira sold them out – nay, sensed it. So they did run, but when they saw me....

Jir unconsciously fingered his rank insigna. They must have tried a hostage grab – which the Yalsamiri stopped. So they tried the same with numbers...but why have they not attacked yet?

“I can't allow you to fully scan my mind, but if I step out of the bubble for a minute, will that be enough for you to sense my intentions or whether I am lying?”

“Yes.” This time, the voice came from behind him and was not amplified anymore. Swirling around, Jir noticed a cloak unraveling around a warrior – a woman by the looks of the armour surrounding a slender figure. The woman shut off her red lightsaber blade and stepped up to the boundary of the bubble, waiting for him to step out of it. Which he did. Immediately he felt something – a strange sensation, as if someone was brushing against his thoughts and then disappearing. But it must have been enough, for the woman reached up to her facemask and removed it, revealing a beautiful face framed by wavy brown haird and complemented by blue eyes.

“I shall take you to our leader.” This caused a bit of movement among the ranks of the Jensaraai, but a glance by the woman ended it. “Your troops will stay here.”

Jir didn't like that one bit, which she apparently caught radiating from his mind. “It is called trust, Marshal.”

Jir quickly weighed the option of leaving or risking his life once more for the good of the empire. “Very well. Lead the way”. Besides, there are worse kinds of death than being impaled upon a lightsaber.

A distant mental chuckle was the response to that.

After a walk of about thirty minutes, Jir was led into a room, where another woman stepped out of the shadows, her face mask displaying the features of a beautiful young woman. But this one was not young anymore, as her white hair showed. But her piercing blue eyes still showed an excess of energy.

“I am the Saarai-Kaar.”

About sixty minutes later Jir had finished telling the Saarai-Kaar about the situation in the galaxy and that his forces had defeated Tavira, while receiving a brief history of the Jensaarai in return. Their bland of Jedi and Sith techniques was highly interesting to him. Of course, eventually the discussion turned towards the purpose of his visit and he was asked what plans the Empire had for this world.

“I am not a politician. Would you mind if I was speaking freely?” The Saarai-Kaar nodded. “The Imperial Remnant is bordering a sith state. We need force users to defend us, and we need them sooner or later.” The Saarai-Kaar shook her head. “We will not help you against our brethren, the sith.”

“The Sith are not your brethren. You spoke of Vader and the persecution you suffered. But Vader was a Sith – I know, I served as his aide.” As soon as he spoke these words, a red lightsaber snapped up and almost touched his chin. Jir however remained staring at the mask of the Saarai-Kaar. Soon he felt his mind being brushed again – but this time the brush was deeper and a touch darker. After a little while, the Saarai-Kaar motioned for the woman who had accompanied Jir to lower her lightsaber, which she did.

“You think you speak the truth”. “I am speaking the truth. Vader held the title Darth, he was the Dark Lord of the Sith. The Emperor himself was a Sith as well and if you want to, I can provide documents that prove it.”

“Assuming that this is indeed true, why should we ally with you after all your state did to us? And don't lie to me, I know you would do the same thing again if you felt it was necessary. All you Imperials are the same – so technocratic, so merciless. So cold.”

“I would say that this charge is unfair. But, let's not quibble about that. Here is my offer – the Remnant will recognize and guarantee your independence. We will not set a foot on your world without your permission. We will further, in accordance with your wishes, of course, install defence installations on this planet. You will have full control over them, providing you wish it. For starters, I propose that a XQ station be constructed in orbit of your world, to be mutually commanded by Imperial Officers and some of your delegates.

As a token of goodwill, we will even donate a warship to your planet to be crewed by your own personnel and station other warships in this system to safeguard your planet, should the situation require it. We will also hand over some recently-recovered sith and Jedi artifacts to you. In return, I ask nothing of you except that a delegation of your people visit the Remnant – and assurances that you will not support any other power. We ask nothing of your world.”

“And what if we come to the conclusion that your people are worth supporting?” “Then we would ask that you provide some of your warriors for our cause and train potential force users.”

The Saarai-Kar turned away, deep in thought. Or maybe she was conversing with the others through the force. Whatever it was, after a moment she turned to face him once more. “You are aware that we number less than a hundred and that any Jensaarai serving you would have to be a volunteer?”

Jir nodded, relieved. “That is all I ask.”

The Saarai-Kar nodded. “Then we are in agreement. I shall dispatch some of my charges to accompany you and report back on me if you people are worth supporting.”

Jir bowed. “Very well, madam. As representative of the Imperial Remnant, I accept your terms.” The Saarai-Kar chuckled. “My terms indeed. Don't you think I didn't notice your plans if we would refuse? You would destroy this world.” Jir blanched, but straightened back up immediately. “I do not deny the charge.” He cast a glance around. “But I would not have enjoyed the task.”

“Yet you would have performed it. I'll keep that in mind, Imperial.” Then the steely voice softened a bit. “But I also saw the devestation of Coruscant and that you were speaking honestly when offering the terms.” The Saarai-Kar turned around and this time it was clear it meant 'goodbye'. “Sent a shuttle in three standard hours to the plaza. My delegation will be ready.”

After Jir had been escorted out, the Saarai-Kar allowed herself to sit down and relax her posture. She would have to be very careful. She also had no illusions about the Empire – it was either sending at least a token force to guard them or annihilation. But as the old saying goes – he who invites the Terentatek risks getting eaten. In any case, her delegation would also carry the complete Jensaarai lore in order to prevent them being destroyed should the Remnant change its mind. And she knew just who to lead them.

Allegiance-class command ship Loyalty

After Jir had completed his report to the Imperial Ruling Council, he fired off another series of orders. “Have the Majestic assume orbit around the moon. I want continous fighter patrol throughout the system. The rest of the fleet will jump with us to Ord Cantrell as soon as the delegation is onboard. That reminds me, lock Tavira's quarters and position a unit of red guards at her door – I don't want them to run into each other. Red guards are also to be stationed on the bridge and in engineering. Have quarters prepared for our guests.”

Now to the grim part.

“Signal the core fleet. I want the IC-52 and IC-53 to be dispatched to this system immediately.” IC-52 and IC-53 were two Assasin-class corvettes tasked with mine laying duties. “ They shall mine all hyperspace routes to this system. Transfer the following orders to the Majestic – under no circumstances must this planet be allowed to fall into enemy hands. Prepare evacuation procedures, if necessary, perform a Base Delta Zero operation.”

Exactly an hour the Jensaarai delegation – 20 humans, three Rodians, plus the woman who had escorted Jir to and from the Saarai-Kar – arrived and after they had been ferried to the Loyalty, the Imperial fleet jumped into hyperspace with their prizes, leaving the ISD Majestic to circle around the colony, while Imperial fighters started to set up Patrols and Imperial troops ferried down the first of many aid shipments to come.

The Bakuran Times.

Disaster at Dekka-9

A Bakuran fleet was ambushed by pirates, taking heavy casualties

It was an Imperial success – and a Bakuran loss. In one battle, the Bakuran Navy lost 12 percent of its strength, while the fleet assigned to protect Ryloth and to combat pirates lost a quarter of its strength. 7452 persons lost their lives in pursuit of a course that many thought were foolish to start with. But the numbers alone cannot reveal the tragedy of Bakuran families. Hardest hit was the Thoms family of Salis D'aar, who lost three of their four sons. Prime Minister Captison has personally spoken with the family, but the words of a politician are cold comfort. It is currently unknown how this will impact the reelection of Prime Minister Captison.....

The Imperial Times
Imperial forces led by Marshal Daine Jir and Vice-Admiral Thanas struck a decisive blow against one of the more notorious pirate gangs out there. The Invidious, home to the pirates led by former self-proclaimed Moff Leonia Tavira, has been captured.

It all started when a daring plan by Admiral Thanas resulted in a costly victory over the pirate fleet, which then was pursued and captured by Marshal Jir.....

Windcaller News Service
Newspaper to Ord Cantrell

The courts of Ord Cantrell these days are busy – so busy in fact, that naval judges from the whole Empire have been brought in to handle it. With the capture of over 50.000 pirates, the courts will have work for a whole year. Rumours are already circling about a possible pardon for former Imperials, but Imperial citizens can rest assured that these are just rumours.

The official proceedings started off with the commencement of the trial against pirate captain Jacob Nive, who was charged not only with being the commander of the Khuiumin surivvors corvette backstab, but also with the murder of retired Imperical captain Zlece Oonaar, who was ejected into vacuum by the pirates.

Thanks to the detailed personal files of Tavira, which the Imperial Navy recovered, this and many other trials are sure to result in a conviction.

During the hearing, Captain Nive ranted about the “backstabbing [expletive deleted] Tavira.” Tavira herself was shot resisting capture when the Imperial forces boarded the Invidious.

Ord Cantrell
Imperial Council Meeting
some time later

The council had deliberated and – after some heavy opposition by Captison and Thanas to Tavira being allowed to go free – decided to approve Jir's plans with a 8-2 vote . The council then decided to approve preliminary plans for the Jensaraai planetary shields and the XQ6 space station, construction to be started as soon as the Jensaraai decided to join – which, as the Jensaarai delegate had put it, would take some time. It was also decided that Marshal Jir would be the primary liaison with the Jensaraai. It was also decided that the Sith would need closer watching and that the Jensaraai – if the rest of the galaxy were to discover them – had to be protected at all costs.

The meeting then turned to the upcoming signing of the alliance treaty on Coruscant. Marshal Praji, Baroness-designate Feena D'Asta and Moff Saenger made a joint report and stated that the preparations were complete. With that in mind, the council decided unanimously that it would temporarily relocate to Coruscant in order to be present in full at the signing ceremony as soon as the other business was completed.

Feena D'Asta was the first to speak.
“Fellow councilmembers, it seems that our alliance has already brought fruit. The Star Empire of Manticore has generously offered to provide a Venator class carrier and two Victory Star Destroyers until our losses are made up. Admiral Thanas, what are your opinions on that?”

Thanas' hologram nodded. “Very well. I can use any extra ships I can get, especially after that last battle. I'll gladly take them – they seem to be as professional as any other Imperial ship. And what good is an alliance if we don't trust them? So I would support having them at Ryloth.”

The other councilmembers agreed and Feena continued.

“With regards to our arms queries, we have received two very tempting offers. The Star Empire of Manticore has offered to sell us 3 Escort Carriers, 8 Nebulon-B Frigates, 4 Lancer Frigates, and 10 VT-49 Decimator Assault Ships for little above the normal price.

We have also received an offer from Sienar Fleet systems:
Beowulf wrote: Republic Siener Fleet Systems (with the approval of the FDPRH) is willing to sell you two(2) Vindicator-class cruisers. Cost will be a total of 68.75 million credits (read: 11 pts).

It can also supply 4 Lancer-class Frigates. Total cost is 87.5 million credits (14 pts). RSFS regrets it will be unable to fulfill orders larger than specifed, due to existing commitments to the FDPRHN, and preplanned yard expansion.
Your thoughts?”

After a short break for deliberation, Lord Praji spoke up first. “I would suggest we first talk about the pirate prizes. We have captured an ISD-II, one Nebulon-B frigate, an assault frigate, a strike cruiser, a bulk cruiser, a CR-90 corvette and a Tartan cruiser. Obviously, the bulk of these ships will go to the Core Fleet.”

“I protest.” Captison and Thanas responded in sync. After a short glance, Gaeriel mentioned for her husband to go ahead. “Bakura bore the most casualties, we deserve to receive the most ships. I therefore claim the Star Destroyer, the strike cruiser and the corvette for Bakura.”

Before Praji could respond, Regent D'Asta interceded. “Gentlemen, no shouting, please. Now, with the casualties suffered I do not think the Bakuran Navy can crew a Star Destroyer. However, you suffered the most. So I propose that the Star Destroyer and the Nebulon B-frigate go to the Ord Cantrell fleet – we need more protection here anyway and they would fit well into our command structure here. Plus, if we continue detaching units from this fleet, we need more to make up the difference. These ships are also the least damaged and do not require additional yard time in order to be up to Imperial standards.”

The regent took a sip of water, then continued.

“As for the Tartan cruiser, more of a very outdated corvette, I vote we turn it over to the Jensaarai. We promised them a warship of their own, here they have it. Repairs on that ship are also finished if that data is correct. The bulk cruiser is also a very outdated design. I move that once that ship has been modernized to Imperial standards, we turn it over to the Naval Academy of Coruscant as a training ship.”

“This leaves the Strike Cruiser, the Assault frigate and the corvette. The Bakuran fleet has lost one Vindicator class cruiser, two Carrack cruisers and two Assassin-class corvettes. The strike cruiser, the assault frigate and the corvette should fill the hole of the Carrack cruisers and one Assassin class corvette, which leaves us short of a Vindicator class cruiser and one corvette. Also, many of the pirate ships need repair. Which brings us back to the arms deal.”

The regent paused for a moment, taking another sip of water.

“I would suggest we take up the offer of the Star Empire of Manticore in part. We buy two Nebulon-B frigates from them for the Ord Cantrell fleet, which brings our count of those ships up to a half-squadron.”

“We should also consider the offer of Sienar Fleet systems. We should reject that offer in part and modify it according to these plans. We need to have the pirate ships repaired, as well as repairs for the Cruiser Dominator. We furthermore need a place for new fighter squadrons – our current factories are at full production for the fleet already. Sienar has always done outstanding fighter and repair work.” After a sign, several aides handed out datapads. “I propose the following – and I would like a vote on that.”

After a few minor adjustments, the council voted to go along with the plan of Ragez D'Asta.

“Now, what about our manpower shortage?” Marshal Praji answered that. “Sir, the pirates include a number of former Imperial personal. I would like to offer a pardon to those if they accept a reduction in rank and a permanent demerit on their record, provided they have not taken part in atrocities. As for the rest of the pirates, the courts will see to them. The Imperial Navy is able to crew all assigned ships. I don't know about Bakura, though.”

Gaeriel Captison's eyes shot daggers at him. “The Bakuran Navy can and will meet the challenge. Yes, we have suffered a severe loss. But we will persevere.”

Moff Saenger interceded before this could get out of hand. “Axum heavy industries is also looking into ways to further reduce our demand for manpower, we might invest heavily in AI research for that.”

D'Asta once more spoke up. “Then it is decided. Thank you all, this has been a most productive meeting. Before we go, I have one bit of good news to share – In my capacity as Regent, I have reviewed the battle logs and have decided to award the Imperial Medal of Order to both Marshal Jir and Vice-Admiral Thanas for the success of their plan against the pirates. The ceremony will take place on Coruscant, right after the signing of the treaty. It is my opinion that both officers conducted themselves with great bravery and competence during recent events.”

Grappa's palace

Grappa the Hutt watched the court proceedings on Imperial holovision with great joy. Now that Tavira was out of the picture, his gang could expand. The failure of the Imperials, as always, was to think that piracy could be eradicated. And with the newest plan in motion, his profits would double.

“All is in place, don't you think?” “Yes, Grappa, all is in place.” Macus Kayniph, the Black sun liaison, nodded.

Coruscant
A week later

All is in order, Feena D'Asta observed. She was standing on the edge of the Skyhook's landing platform, ready to welcome visitors.

Her father had already arrived earlier, brushing past the honour guard to discuss urgent business with Mirith Sinn.
Image
Her old friend had barely paused, only to offer a reassuring smile to her.

The rest of the council had arrived yesterday and were now busy attending to their luxury suites. The Jensaarai were there too, staying with Jir's entourage. The ruined cityscape of coruscant provided an apt background to the proceedings. Like dancing on graves.

“Nervous?” Moff Saenger, in his white dress uniform, appeared at her side. If he had been anyone else except for him and Mirith, she would have bitten his head off. “Yes.”

“It is going to be alright, you know. Worst case, you start an international war and look like a buffoon.” “Why, thank you for that great figure of speech.”

“Seriously though, it is going to be alright.” “I know....I just have this sinking feeling that something is up. And I don't think you came out here just to comfort me.”

“Well, that too. But I have just been informed the first delegate ship has entered Axum space and will arrive at Coruscant within minutes.”

Here come the delegates – and the party crashers.

ISD II Peacekeeper, Coruscant System

The ISD II Peacekeeper entered the system, bearing Emperor Aeron Bell of Corellia to the signing of the treaty to create the CORE Alliance. Boarding his shuttle, he left for the Skyhook. Upon landing at the Skyhook, he was greeted by an honor guard of Remnant soldiers, as well as key Remnant personnel. Smiling, he descended to greet the delegates. It's been a long time since I've seen something like this, he mused. It feels good to know that Imperial prestige is back. And this time, we can make it mean something good for the galaxy.

Private Quarters, Justice, Coruscant Space

Councillor-Chairman Albert Arc looked over the list of people the Bothans were bringing to the signing ceremony. He had been surprised to find his nation had been invited as a guest to this important meeting. He had originally decided to send the Undercoucillor of foreign affairs, as this was not a matter that the de facto head of state of the Bothan Confederacy, not only a non-party, but a non-party with 'ideological differences,' would not be needed to simply be there, shake a few hands, take a few holos, and prove that the Bothans and Imperials don't hate each other. The Combined Clans had another idea entirely, they requested that the Councillor-Chairman attend, and bring a handful of bothans with him to do things, making it very clear what would happen to the Confederacy's support from the Clans if this request was ignored.

The list was oddly long for a group that was meant to simply pleasantly sit back and watch the political theatre while proving to the Imperials that they weren't savage murders who were plotting the downfall of society while planting evidence for another murder. This was one of the major reasons why the Combined Clans had requested that Councillor-Chairman Arc to personally lead the Bothan observation delegation, he was simply the most cautious politician in the upper offices of the Confederate Council and would be a good face for the 'lighter' politics of the Confederacy.

The listed delegation was the Councillor-Chairman, the Bothan Spynet chief, the chief's Pau'an aide, a Dresselian bodyguard, a Bothan analyst who had been studying the information about the Imperial agreement, and was ready to answer any questions, and finally a high ranking diplomat that had negotiated a trade deal between the Remnant and the Confederacy. The most glaring thing about the list was the Spynet's leadership, who had assured the Councillor-Chairman that his was as noble, if not more so, reason for being at the ceremony. The second was the diplomat, who served no real purpose, aside from filling the list with more names, but that was the point, since the Remnant's announcement of their holonet project, the entire confederacy had been abuzz with fears of Imperial upstaging, and more importantly Imperial monopoly. Paranoia gripped the capital quickly, and orders were made for holonet access stations to be bought for the Confederacy, and for Bothan engineers to devise 'secure from foreign influence' access stations. (Bothans bought 7 access stations, 175 points) This led to a feeling that the Bothans had to compensate on an intergalactic stage. To the Councillor-Chairman, it didn't matter much, but saving face was one of the things the Combined Clans were best at, so he allowed them a bit of rope.

His preparations made, the Councillor-Chairman left his quarters on the Bothan star destroyer and joined his delegation, or 'escorts' depending on how charitable the Remnant was with their invitation, who made their trip to the skyhook without incident.

Coruscant
Lord Praji's skyhook

There were times when Feena D'Asta hated being a diplomat. Today was one of these days - oh, she loved the dresses, the dancing, the shoes, she reveled in the attention focused towards her and she definitely hoped to get in a dance or two later...but at the moment she was simply hoping to get through this. Because standing on the Skyhook platform while the Bothans and the Corellians were already standing inside made her jumpy. So far, all she had been able to do was curtsy to the Corellian emperor, greet the Bothan Councillor-Chairman and pass them on the datapad.

Sadly, the datapads provided little news to her – because she had co-written them. All they contained was the official schedule and a bit of background information.
Official schedule:

09:20. Meeting at the skyhook
10:30 Shuttling down to the ruins of the Imperial Palace
11:00 Signing ceremony. Speeches should be kept at a minimum at this part.
12:00 Skyhook meeting. Snacks will be served at this time.
12:15 Speech by his Excellency the Baron Ragez D'Asta, Regent of the Imperial Remnant
13:00 Speech by his Imperial Majesty, His Imperial Manticoran Majesty Emperor James I Manticore, Emperor of the Star Empire of Manticore
13:45 Speech by his Imperial Majesty, Aeron Bell, Emperor of the Second Corellian Empire and Supreme Commander, Imperial Corellian military
14:30 Speech by his Excellency Admiral Rowan, Head of State and Commander in chief of the Core Protectorate
15:15 Closing words by Regent D'Asta. This ends the official program for the time being.

Unofficial program sponsored by the Imperial Remnant
Delegates may attend at their leisure any of these speeches. Please notify Feena D'Asta about which, if any, speeches you wish to attend.

15:45: Speech by Prime Minister Gaeriel Captison-Thanas: “Are Imperial and democratic values anathema to each other? A look at the succesfull integration of Imperial and New Republic citizens in the Bakuran Republic”
16:45: Speech by His Excellency, Lord Nahdonnis Praji, Head of House Praji, Governor-General of Kaikielius, Foerost and Ruan, Marshal of the Galactic Empire: “The new Imperial Navy – new ship designs, new structure”.
17:00: Speech by Moff Jurang Saenger, Governor of the Axum system, Commander of the Imperial Effort to reconstruct Coruscant and Anaxes: The state of the Reconstruction effort."
17:45: Joint speech by the Lady Feena D'Asta, Baroness designate of Nez Peron and head of the Imperial Diplomatic Corps and Clan Leader the Rt. Hon. Kandon Secura, Representative of Ryloth: “The common threat of the galaxy. Pirates, insurgents and slavers.”
An opportunity for questions will be given at the end of each speech.

The Imperial Remnant would feel honored if delegates would choose to attend the following two functions. Dress uniforms and/or formal attire is required.
19:00: Bestowal of the Imperial Medal of Order on Marshal Daine Jir and Vice-Admiral Thanas for their succesful efforts in combating the pirate threat.
20:15 Imperial State Dinner.
Which was of little comfort to Feena D'Asta at the moment. So the only thing for her was to wait and listen/talk to Moff Saenger via the comm device hidden in one of her earrings.

*********************
Cmdr. Mirith Sinn, Head of Imperial Intelligence, would have looked wandering to any untrained observer. In reality, though, she was merely allowing herself to be steered towards her real direction – the Head of the Bothan Spynet. After talking to several Corellian delegates, she just happened to be standing near him at the refreshment table. “I trust the ISD parts we traded to you work out?” “Yes.” “Good.”

All this had been a code, prearranged via several back channels. Essentially, what it said was “Meet me during the optional speeches in Room #163a.” Having refilled her drink, Sinn drifted away from the table and headed towards the Regent.
*********************

Regent D'Asta himself hoped that the boosts his doctor had given him would hold. Of course they would – they were the best money could buy. He couldn't afford to look ill or weak now. But the boosts were working – he didn't feel that young and good since he had been sixty. Of course, there was a price attached, but if this alliance would be formalized, a medical coma of one or two days was acceptable.

Haig Ukaleq [Elomin Male, Minister of Foreign Affairs] had deliberated long on the exact composition of the entourage and escort. Would it be considered a faux pas to use a Dauntless cruiser due to their potential connection to the republic factions and the sister separatist Recusant design, or was it a show of interest to bring the large ships? Could it end in vulgar comparisons of military material or would the powerful communication and sensor's of the Dauntless prove useful during the trip? Would using an imperial design be tasked as too supportive as it stayed over Imperial center?

It worked out on balance that a Dauntless would carry him to the conference and one of the convoy flag ships would take him back. He even had secured Commodore Testarossa to join the entourage, to be a familiar face if any one looked. It had been odd that she had taken partial leave, while retaining understudy status for command of one of the fleet formations.

The sky hook loomed a head as the group of four VAAT-Es came on down from low orbit. The invitees were here.

OOC:speaches that certain representatives will be at > 15:45 full entourage 16:45 Commodore Testarrosa and Fleet Captain Neely Captain of the Dauntless RÁÐÚLFR 17:45 Commodore Tetarossa and Staff. Select Service Beings would attend the Medal Ceremony. The Full entourage would attend the state dinner, with the exception of the Wookie staff.

CPS Serenity, Coruscant Space

The fleet slid out of the bright tunnel of hyperspace into a system that still bore the signs of the battles that had broken the Galactic powers. The Allegiance Class Star Destroyer, the CPS Serenity lead the point of the simple diamond formation as the fleet swept in towards the inner system. As the ships swept in Admiral Rowan began touting up the differences that a single year had bought. All of the larger wrecks had warning buoys near-by. Most of the wreckage was already starting to form into hazy clumps as hundreds of trillions of credits worth of star ship derbies were attracted to each other by gravity and time. So as not to cause alarm the instant his ships had broken hyperspace the CPS Glaive & CPS Mangonel broke away from the other ships, clearly headed towards north and southern polar orbits. He had in his ships twice the fire-power of ever other yet arrived member of the Core Alliance. The MK-II Imperial Star Destroyers Glaive and the Mangonel where his donations to the mutual defensive force here at Courscant and the four groups of three Corvette's he had brought him where his donations to the system patrol forced planned. Captain Hopten of the CPS Glaive would already be hailing the Remnant ships in system requesting orders on where to form up. Soon a shuttle full of Imperial Remnant advisers would be bound for both ships to tie them into the grid, provide the pass codes and decryption so they could talk to the other ships of the Defense force and all the hundred other things one must do to build a Sector Fleet from scratch

The CPS Serenity headed in system

Coruscant system
Allegiance class Command Ship Loyalty
Flagship of the Core Fleet

“Rowan arrives in style.” Rear-Admiral Lohrin Truma watched the display of strength as the Core Protectorate fleet arrived. Truth to be told, he hated this command. He much preferred his own unit – the 972th Imperial attack squadron (Tector), but with Marshal Jir being busy on the Skyhook, the command fell to the next in line. Truma hated system defence with a passion. He much preferred to be on the attack, leading the charge from his beloved Delenda Est, arriving at the critical moment and catching the enemy flank – seeing them scatter and be destroyed by the six Tectors.... he could very much imagine himself on the battlefields of old, leading a cavalry charge...

But if the Empire (he refused to call it the Remnant, because whoever held Coruscant was the Empire to him) wanted him to conduct system defence, he would do so.

“Communications – send our welcome to the Core fleet, sent in the advisors. Direct the flagship towards Coruscant and notify the skyhook that Admiral Rowan has arrived. Also, I want to tour the Glaive and the Mangonel as soon as they have arrived at their stations.”

Skyhook

Feena D'Asta retracted her hand after having it shaken by Haig Ukaleq. “Thank you, Minister, for coming. I trust your voyage was amicable?”

After the exchange of pleasantries, the TSAB officials went inside, where they almost collided with Marshal Jir and his entourage. While most of the Jensaarai had stayed behind on Ord Cantrell to familiarize themselves with the Imperial Remnant, the woman with the red lightsaber blade had accompanied Jir to the Skyhook, a striking figure in her red-clad armour and red cape. And at this distance it was impossible for Cmdr. Testorossa not to notice the lightsaber prominently displayed at her hip.

After excusing themselves, they continued on towards the landing platform. On the way, Jir noticed that some of the usual grace displayed by the Jensaarai on the planet was missing - her step seemed a bit sluggish. “Still feeling queasy?” “Yes, Marshal. All these Yalsamiri around me....I feel as if I am under heavy medication.” “Interesting. While that is the case, could you tell me your name? It gets a bit tiresome to introduce you as Delegate of the Jensaarai”. “My name is...Delegate.” “Ah. So in the future I shall introduce you as Delegate Delegate of the Jensaarai and-don't-ask-me-what-that-word-means-either”. This did produce a slight smile on her face, which immediately vanished. “Aiella.”

The group had by now reached the landing platform, where Marshal Praji joined them as they walked forwards to meet D'Asta. “Marshal, Marshal, Delegate.” “Mylady.” “Have you come to inform me that Admiral Rowan has arrived?” “On the contrary, Mylady.” As if on command, the two Marshals flanked her, with the Jensaarai Aiella staying behind. “We have come to greet an old comrade-in-arms.” Feena stepped one step forward, breaking the display “Very well.”

The challenge was issued – would they dare step forward too? Instead, Praji simply bowed, backing down. In silence, the group awaited the descent of Admiral Rowan's shuttle.

Results:
-politics, politics, politics. Setting the stage for further developments. Oh, and the Jensaarai delegate gets a name.

The Neimoidian Skakoan Dauntless class ship Skako arrived at the outskirts of the Coruscant system broadcasting diplomatic signals. It moved to a polar orbit while a Neimoidian shuttle left the ship. It was carrying the Prime minister Tul Setka to lord Praji's Skyhook looking for a place to dock.

Result Tul Setka arrives at Coruscant for the signing of the CORE alliance.

Coruscant
Lord Praji's skyhook

After the greetings were done, Emperor Bell took a look at the schedule:
Official schedule:

09:20. Meeting at the skyhook

11:00 Signing ceremony. Speeches should be kept at a minimum at this part.
12:00 Skyhook meeting. Snacks will be served at this time.

Aeron Bell wasn't much on speeches, but he knew it was one of those things that came with the job. He was far more interested in the unofficial speeches. Gathering his delegation in a small conference room near his suite of quarters, he handed out assignments, more like the Imperial Admiral he used to be than a ruling head of state.

"I believe I shall attend Prime Minister Captison's speech regarding Imperial and democratic values. Teren, I think Marshal Praji's speech concerning the Imperial Navy would be of interest to you?" Teren Rogriss smiled and nodded. "If I am able to, I will also be there for the reconstruction talk after the Prime Minister's session. If not, Minister Talren will simply be alone." The Corellian Minister for Reconstruction, Syd Talren, nodded as well. "Admiral Jones, you should attend the final speech concerning piracy, slavery and insurgents." Vice Admiral James Jones of the Imperial Corellian Navy gave a simple "Yes, sir" in response.

"Of course, as you all know, I don't expect you to simply be observers. There will be a period for questions during each session, and I expect you all to make use of it. And to try and establish contact with the speech givers as you can." This was most directed at Admiral Rogriss and Minister Talren. "And of course, we will all attend the medal ceremony and state dinner. Any questions?" There were none. "Very well. Dismissed."

As they broke up and went about their business, Admiral Rogriss caught up with Bell a few minutes later. "So, Admiral Rowan is here. He made quite a show according to the captain of the Peacekeeper."

"That seems to be his style," said Bell, recalling what he'd heard from the Tatooine system. "Did you ever serve with him?"

"No, but I heard of him."

"Yes, I know him only by reputation as well." This did not surprise Bell at all. The Imperial Navy had been quite large in its day, so it was hardly unexpected that not every Admiral would meet with all of his peers. "I believe we should see if we can rectify this omission in our social lives, wouldn't you agree?"

Admiral Rogriss simply nodded.

Results
Attendence for various speeches outlined, a couple new characters introduced. In theory, my character will make use of the Q&A session, and Rogriss and Talren will try to get with Marshal Praji and Moff Saenger, respectively after the speeches are done. Emperor Bell will likewise try to meet with Prime Minister Captison. Finally, Bell and Rogriss will try to meet with Admiral Rowan of the Core Protectorate during this time. Admiral to Admiral to Admiral.

Coruscant
Lord Praji's Skyhook

The descent from HIMMS Firmament, the Star Destroyer tasked with transporting the Emperor to the former galactic throneworld was quick, uneventful, and, Emperor James admitted to himself, one of the most depressing things he'd ever endured.

As a commodore at 2nd Coruscant, he'd given his all, and that of the 31st Destroyer Squadron, to protect the glory that had been Coruscant. The shuttle flight over the ruined, mob-infested hellhole it was now reminded him of the failure that had doomed the galaxy to who-knew how much pain and chaos in the years since and to come.

Damn all Sith, anyway. And damn James Manticore if he couldn't keep the galaxy from being used a plaything of immoral, irrational wizards.

It was with a wrenching effort that the ruler of the Star Empire shifted his thoughts onto a less dismal track in time to present a polite smile and a gracious "Lady D'Asta, Marshals, pleasure to meet you at last." Several minutes of diplomatic chitchat later, James found himself smiling with real pleasure for the first time in a great while - The first steps towards restoring order to the galaxy were mere hours away from being taken.

Skyhook

As soon as the last scheduled representative had arrived, Feena walked over to her father and informed him that all relevant parties had gathered. She would have liked to make the announcement herself, but protocol dictated that only a head of state could compel another head of state to do anything. So her father made the announcement that everything was ready for the ceremony and soon, a flurry of shuttles made its way down towards Imperial Center.

Imperial Center
Former Imperial throneroom

The throneroom had changed since the last time D'Asta had set foot in it. It had instead become a pile of rubble, flattened and partially cleared by Imperial construction droids. But for the purpose of this signing, it provided a great backdrop – the empty spires of the former hall eerily recalling images of falling civilizations, giving the place the appearance of a bombed-out cathedral of old. Impressive – and also a poignant reminder of the horror Coruscant had suffered.

D'Asta surveyed the scene a bit further. A part of the populace of Coruscant - or those that had been shipped in from the various relief centers - had gathered around the honour guard. Inside the cordon formed by them, a podium had been erected at the place where the Imperial throne had stood. On the podium two dais had been placed, one in the center, one lightly in the back.

Inside the area, two dozen rows of Red Guards, Imperial stormtroopers, Bakuran marines, navy and army soldiers were forming one side of a 200 meter long honour guard. Facing them and completing the honour guard were the same number of bureaucrats, elected representatives and business leaders. It was a good choice, D'Asta reflected. A powerful image to represent that we have changed but still honour our roots.. In the days of old, a whole legion would have gathered to form a honour guard, but this was no coronation and including the other representatives of society had been a good idea of Captison, which Saenger and the majority of the council had backed over Praji's objection.

Who was now standing behind the two dais with the other Councillors and high-ranking dignitaries of the other three nations. The block of them provided a splendid sight in their dress uniforms, dresses and fine cloth they had put on. A sharp contrast to the populace which mainly wore the grey standard clothing handed out by Imperial relief centers. But the images here would be sent to all news agencies in the galaxies – and the splendor of the honour guard and the dignitaries made for great visuals when contrasted with the populace. It would also highlight the humanitarian effort of the Remnant. Or at least that is what Saenger and Windcaller calculated – we may very well all look like elitist snobs, as the Bakurans argued. Which is why he had chosen not to put on any elaborate ornaments – the simple red uniform of the D'Astan forces he had worn when he had arrived on the Skyhook earlier would suffice.

With a clunk, the ramp of the shuttle touched down and after a short glance, the four Leaders started the 200m long walk towards the podium. They were walking parallel to each other, with no entourage – just four determined men, leaving their footprints on Corucant. And on history, for every news holocam in the Remnant was filming them.

After the walk to the podium, the four stopped in front of the councillors and the second dais, turned around and formed a single line. After giving the holocams a few seconds to capture them standing there in unision for stills, D'Asta stepped out of line and forward to the first Dais, which was empty save four old ceremonial pens and a built-in microphone disc which carried his words over the whole crowd.

“People of Coruscant, People of the galaxy. We are gathered here today to write a new chapter in the grand book of history. These are dark times. The days of Palpatine are over and his rule as well as the fanaticism of the New Republic have left dire consequences on this and many planets. There are many Coruscants and nowhere else was the suffering greater than here on Imperial Center where so many good people perished.

In order to prevent further suffering and secure our borders, the Imperial Remnant, the Star Empire of Manticore, the Second Corellian Empire and the Core Protectorate have decided to form the CORE alliance.

The terms of the alliance will now be read.”

From outside the ranks of the dignitaries, Moff Saenger stepped forward to the second dais, unfolding a scroll on which the public part of the treaty were written. As ranking governor of Coruscant, it had been decided he was to do the announcement. And of course, he could not have been stopped from starting the announcement in old standard, as had been custom in the first days of the senate. But thankfully for the benefit of the populace, he had been forced to switch to basic after the first few words.

“Audite, audite, audite. Foedus est:
Preamble:
The CORE members recognize that they share a common goal in mutual security and trade as well as common enemies in pirates and other undesirable elements. Therefore they, out of their own free will, have decided to form this Alliance.

A. Sovereignty
1. All members recognize the sovereignty of each other and acknowledge that they all have a legitimate claim to each and every world they hold.
2. All members promise to desist from any measures taken to destabilize each other.
3. Disputes shall be sent to arbitration.

B. Trade
1. All members will enter into trade pacts with each other. No tariffs of any kind may be imposed upon each other.
2. As the planets Coruscant and Anaxes are currently in ruins, the members recognize the right of the Imperial Remnant to fix prices on these two planets. This right expires upon successful reconstruction of those planet.
3. In order to safeguard convoy routes, each member state will make an effort to curb piracy as much as possible.

C. Defensive alliance
1. An unprovoked war of aggression against any member state is a war against all member states. The council determines what counts as a war of aggression.
2. The members recognize the right of every state to start a war of aggression. However, should this result in a defeat of that particular state, no other member state is required to come to the aid of the beleaguered party.
3. If a member state attacks another nation which also has a defensive alliance with another member state, all hostilities are to cease immediately and the case shall be sent to the CORE conference.

D. The CORE conference
1. Every member state will sent one (1) Representative to a continuous conference until the holonet regains it former capacities. After this has occurred, the conference may be convened via holonet.
2. One state, one vote.
3. The Conference shall have a presiding member. The presiding member has tie-breaking abilities. The presidency shall rotate every year between member states according to this rotation:
a) The Imperial Remnant
b) the other signatory state in order of their signing, which are:
1. The Star Empire of Manticore
2. The Second Corellian Empire
3. The Core Protectorate
4. Issues brought before the council are to be decided by a simple majority.
5. Any disputes shall be sent to the conference for arbitration.
6. The seat of the conference is Coruscant. Until the planet is rebuilt to a satisfactory level, the conference will convene on the capital world of the presiding member state.

E.Miscellaneous
1. All member states must inform each other about military projects in planning before publication.
2. Violations of this treaty shall result in punishment decided upon the council. Serious violations (such as sabotaging another member) will result in expulsion from the alliance.
3. No member state may interfere with the domestic policies of another member state.
4. The treaty of alliance shall be signed on Coruscant.

Signed on Coruscant in the year 48 after the Great Resynchronization, in the year 14 after the Battle of Yavin and in the year 2 after the Battle of Coruscant, by the following representatives:

His Excellency the Baron Ragez D'Asta, Regent of the Imperial Remnant, on behalf of the Imperial Remnant
His Imperial Manticoran Majesty Emperor James I Manticore, Emperor of the Star Empire of Manticore, on behalf of the Star Empire of Manticore
His Imperial Majesty, Aeron Bell, Emperor of the Second Corellian Empire and Supreme Commander, Imperial Corellian military , on Behalf of the Second Corellian Empire
His Excellency Admiral Rowan, Head of State and Commander in chief of the Core Protectorate, on behalf of the Core Protectorate.

After finishing reading with another ritualized incantation, the Moff carried the document over to the first dais, setting it down. He then saluted D'Asta and returned to his former position among the dignitaries.

D'Asta resumed speaking. “On behalf of the Imperial Remnant and with the authority given to me by the Imperial Ruling Council, I hereby pledge that the Imperial Remnant will do everything in its power to see that this treaty achieves its purpose – bringing security and prosperity to all citizens of member states. I will devote every fiber of my being to this goal and will not rest until Coruscant and every other world has been restored to its former glory.”

He then took one of the ceremonial pens and in strong, precise letters he wrote his name under the document. Stepping back towards the other nation leaders, he waited for James I. to step forward.

A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

Since he was the second signatory to the treaty, James I Manticore stepped forward and took the ceremonial pen. Amplified by the microphone disc, his words carried all over the former throne hall.

"Two years ago I was a commodore at the second battle of Coruscant. There I witnessed firsthand the pain and devestation absolute ideologues can wreck. I was a commodore of the Imperial Navy then. Today, I am the ruler of the Star Empire of Manticore and I am proud of all that we have accomplished so far. As I did my duty two years ago, I shall do my duty today by signing this treaty.

This duty of mine is not only to my subjects, it is to you as well. It is a duty to all of civilization and it is the duty of all civilized men to keep the dark forces of chaos from spreading their corrupting influence. It is not my duty, it is the duty of us all.

The Star Empire of Manticore hereby signs this treaty."

After writing his name, the Emperor took his code cylinder and pressed it against the document. Then, he walked back to the other representatives. And this time, his step was just a little bit lighter than before.

And any sith who tries to stop us be damned.

Aeron Bell took the pen from James I Manticore and stepped to the front. He hated this part, the speeches, but he knew it was expected. Taking a cue from his days as an Admiral and giving countless briefings to his troops, he decided to keep it short and to the point.

"Fellow citizens of the galaxy, on behalf of the Second Corellian Empire I sign this treaty. Not just as a Corellian, but as a member of the galactic community. It is my hope that through the work of this alliance, a lasting peace can be forged for all of the peoples of our worlds."

With that, he signed the document and stepped back, handing off the pen to the Imperial Remnant leaving the pen in place for the next signatory.

EDIT: Damn mistake.

Node 42, Primary Computing Node, below Hpaq City, Vulpter

-You are aware that this plan will delay the production of capital ships for at least two years? And that our fleet is already at a dangerous understrenght?

-Admiral, TRILLIAN has approved my strategy and calculated everything accordingly. If you open sub-detatchment 7-B, you will find the long-term projections of our industrial output. I think these outweight the short-term disadvantages.

-Lady Serafina, my fleet has to protect 15 different targets, and it is at an abysmal size. And i do not need to remember you that all our research went into automatizing our fleet, instead of newer shiptypes? Most of our ships are convoy escorts and raiders. If any other major faction decides to invade our territory, there is virtually no way to stop them.

-Admiral Amyria, i agree with your conclusion. But would you please open sub-detachment 3-C?

-"Stationary defense assets"? Those are virtually useless to defend against a large fleet. Each station can only fight for itself. If we had a large fleet on our own, we could simply use it to attack any invading force.

-Admiral, just read sub-detachments 2-A, B and C. I think these will answer all your questions.
Now, for something else- TRILLINAN recently concluded the desings of your new ship design. They have been sent to Benoga Research Station, and Doctor Ross has already reviewed them. Doctor Ross?

-Thank you, Mylady. Now, Admiral, as you can see, this new design fits our new doctrine perfectly. We are currently conducting field tests and are already buidling the first prototype. It should be finished withing four months. Could you include into any fleet maneuvery by any chance?

-I will need to make some arragements for that, but i think it will be possible. But i will first have to contact Outer Contact - i think i have an interesting idea for that maneuver.

Before anyone is complaining: I still need to research the new ship type. However, due to my supercomputer, this "research" will consist entierly of ship trials etc. Thats the price i have to pay for high automatizing - there are more bugs to work out.

Presidential Palace, Capital District
Nysacia Prime, Federal Republic of Nysacia

President Gethrim Kade stood on a balcony kilometers above the planet's surface, leaning against the railing and savoring the cool, evening air. Speeders and starships clouded the darkening orange sky, weaving their way through the glistening towers of his homeworld. Decades had passed since the Clone Wars, and the planet had made a complete recovery. Still, the scars were there for those with long memories to see: The familiar parts of the skyline that weren't there, or had been replaced by buildings only a few years old.

Gethrim Kade was not a young man. At a hundred and twenty-four standard years, he owed his unnatural health and fitness, and perhaps his very life, to several very expensive rejuvenation sessions. A tall, powerfully-built man who appeared to be in his early sixties at most, only his silvery white hair and short-cropped beared served to indicate his elderly status. His dark skin was not hereditary, but rather the result of frequThe Concordat Alliance would be a much safer choiceent outdoor swimming excursions. He wore a bright orange suit with black gloves and pink shaded spectacles; an ensemble that was in vogue on Prime back during his youth, and now made him quite distinctive.

A pleasant chime sounded from within his office, and Kade stepped inside, closing the sliding window behind him. He stood behind his large, mahogany desk and pressed a button on the comm.

"Your final appointments are here to see you, Your Excellency."

"Very good, Henry. Send them in at once."

Predictably, the first one through the double doors was none other than Tillean Mel'embertin, the new Prime Minister. Scratch that, she was a new everyting. Barely into her twenties, the Moff Jandrell's daughter had married into one of Oured's most prominent families. She always dressed nicely, looking the part of the active aristocrat. Her unnaturally blue hair was the only hint that she possessed a less-than-serious side that neither her father nor life on Oured could completely quash. Mel'embertin had been Chairwoman of both the Liberal Democratic Party and the LDP-dominated Interventionist Caucus. The most recent Federal election had been a landslide victory for the Interventionists, and that landslide had swept her into her current position as head of government.

Following close behind was her father, a man that even Kade considered a dinosaur. Not because of his age, he was actually in his seventies, but rather for what he represented. Einham, the Moff Jandrell was the governor of Nysacia Sector under both the Galactic Empire and the New Republic. Now that both regimes were defunct and Nysacia was independent, the dully-appointed representative of Coruscant was superfluous at best. No one outside the press dared say as much, so he continued to lean on the Federal government like he leaned on his cane. After he mutinied under Isard, the Moff had traded in his jackboots and SSI uniform for the foppish fashions of the Oured aristocracy; complete with blue, brocaded coat and cravat. He even wore his white hair much longer than the old Imperial regulation. He had not, however, indulged in the gene therapy that had been recently decriminalized, and was thus in rather poor health.

Following at a respectful distance was Sky Marshall Kendra Langard, Commandant of the Federal Nysacian Armed Forces. Langard had been an admiral in the NRDF during the war, and it had been by her command that most of the Neo-Republican forces in Nysacia Sector had dug in to defend the Federal Republic. An attractive young woman with long, brown hair, Langard wore civilian clothes affixed with military insignia, medals, epaulets and a short cape. That fateful decision had made Nysacia's current freedom and secruity possible, and her position at the top of the military establishment reflected that.

"Welcome, welcome!" President Kade applauded their arrival. "Please, be seated and make yourselves comfortable." As soon as the three dignitaries took a seat, Kade rounded his desk and lowered himself into his high-backed chair. "You should know that our business with the Cultural Union of the Galactic Core is concluded; for now."

"Are you absolutely certain that they aren't Separatists?" demanded Mel'embertin.

"We're all lowercase separatists now, Tilly." Kade laughed. "But yes, they do not appear to be associated with any CIS remnants or revanchists. I would have ordered their ship destroyed if that were the case. How is your declaration of war coming, by the way?"

"It died in committee," she growled.

"That's a pity," Kade lied. "And the sanctions?"

"Repealed," Mel'embertin was seething now, arms crossed and tugging on her sleeves (a habit she picked up from her father), "as of today, the Federal government is officially neutral toward any and all Separatist holdouts.

"Officially," Kade reminded her. "Unofficially, we cannot allow the CIS to return in any form."

"Agreed," said Moff Jandrell. "We should commence talks with the Empire immediately."

"Which one?" scoffed Marshall Langard. "The Galactic Empire is a dead letter."

"For now," Kade corrected her. "I assure you, Marshall, the current state of the galaxy is strictly temporary. It may take years, decades or even centuries, but a galactic hegemony will reassert itself. That is the natural state of things. Whether it will take the form of a Republic or an Empire is quite frankly irrelavant, so long as it is not dominated by those insidious magi or corrupt plutocrats."

Mel'embertin looked like she was about to say something, but Kade preempted her. "Nationalism is the problem, not the solution. Nysacia cannot go it alone. We've been given an unprecedented opportunity." A nod in Langard's direction. "We cannot squander our newfound power and influence on petty, lowercase imperialism. We need allies, but we need to choose them carefully, and using criteria other than what kind of ships they use."

"Speaking of that, Your Excellency," Langard cut in. "We need to secure a source of replacement parts for our Mon Calamari and legacy Imperial equipment. Our TIEs and MC90s will fall into disrepair unless we come to an agreement with both Dac and at least one of the Imperial remnants."

"Agreed, but which one?"

"There are at least three that I think are approachable," said Mel'embertin, "Corellia, Manticore and the Empire proper. Maybe more, but deals with the Sithian remnants are unacceptable."

"Oh, absolutely," Kade said quickly. "We need a trade pact at least with Dac, but what about other Republicans?"

"I don't trust the Bothans," Langard admitted. "Never have, but they seem to be the strongest state to represent what the Republic stood for. Personally, I would recommend the Concordat instead."

"We must assume it will come to war," Jandrell declared. "We have no use for allies who have no stomach for fighting. If the Separatists and the Sith are to be put down forever, we need allies willing to commit to the crusade."

"Let's not burn any bridges just yet," said Kade. "First, we shop around, see who has goals and ideals most closely aligned with our own. That precludes the Separatists and the Sith, of course, but it doesn't necessarily preclude anyone else. Agreed?"

There were nods of assent all around.

"Fantastic!" clapped Kade. "Well then, who's up for a swim?"

*****

Summary: Nysacia throws her hat into the ring. Anarcho-capitalists and Force-users beware. An ambassador is dispatched to Dac to secure a license for the MC line of capital warships.

(OOC:Knock Knock, who's there?)

It had been a tremendous speech thought Nalassie. Jos Kor had been in top form as he proclaimed the birth of the Golden Republic to the delegations from all five worlds. The driven, fiery youth who had fought for her peoples freedoms against the Empire had matured into a visionary leader and she felt a great sense of pride in him and his accomplishments. She mused on how the galaxy had changed from that day three years ago when she'd accompanied her lover back to his homeworld. He had helped free her world Yanibar from the tyrannical forces of Palpantines Empire and then stayed to further his knowledge of the Force and to pursue a relationship with her. So when the time cam she had aided him in his efforts to unit a small number of worlds into a single larger entity that would hopefully form the nucleus for a new galactic government that would someday unite the fractured galaxy under one banner. Their dream was starting to become a reality and maybe that was the true source of pride she felt.

Realizing with a start that they had entered a heavily fortified area of the Central Command building during her musings she Nalassie spoke up. "where are we going Jos?"

"To meet with the Command Council." He turned towards her. "Our work is only just beginning Nala and it will be a long while before what we have started here today will come to full fruition."

Laughing lightly Nalassie replied. "What was it that Old Zorzi used to say?"

Grinning back at her Jos mimicked their old teachers voice. "Even the greatest of journeys starts with but a single step young ones."

Nalassie smiled fondly. "I miss him..."

"As do I love, as do I..." Murmured Jos "We're almost to the War Room and I have an important mission for you to preform."

"Of course Jos, what do you need me to do?"...

A few minutes later

As Jos Kor and Nalassie Adrana entered the War Room the ten members of the Command Council, each head of one of the Central Commands branches, rose to greet the new leader of the Golden Republic. Seated around the oval table in clockwise fashion was Admiral Vibor Supreme Commander, Fleet. Next to him Air Commodore Jaksan head of the starfighter corps. General Trig Hansu the Army counterpart to Admiral Vibor. Major General Fitch Yorke the Marine Commandant. Vice Admiral Smitt Dalgre head of the newly created Patrol. Pol Norgot civil service head. Joyd Cummi of Arkania head of the Republic Science and Engineering Corps. Next to Joyd Cummi was his associate Fortus Kan the Manufacturing Advisor. Haga Zicti head of the Foreign Office and Jal Shey Mentor was next. And the last was Intelligence chief Daw Taleng.

After the greetings were concluded Jos Kor started the meeting by turning to his intelligence chief and asking. "Well Taleng what have your spies discovered about this new galaxy we find our selves in?"

"Well sir it's a mess as is to be expected, but it's worse then we thought. Pirates are running rampant across the galaxy, the Hutts have no one to keep them in check though we don't know if they've expanded their territory or just their criminal webs. The Hapans appear to be mostly unaffected and are still maintaining they're isolationist policies. A series of other small confederations have begun springing up some of which have ideals and goals similar to our own. Primarily the members nations of a new CORE Alliance. Other less compatible States have arisen as well the most worrisome at this point are several factions who seem to be descended from the CIS. At this point we just don't have enough information on anyone to do more then advise that we establish contacts with as many people as possible."

"Thank you Taleng... Haga Zicti I think that falls into your area. Please coordinate with Admiral Vibor to have a number of VT-49's dispatched with a diplomatic liaison aboard to any and all nations we've discovered so far. They're not empowered to start negotiating at this point just gauge the nations willingness to enter diplomatic talks and to pave the way for an actual ambassador."

"I understand Chancellor, also there is a matter of which I would speak with you in private."

"Of course Mentor. Fortus Kan please report on our current manufacturing capabilities and your recommendations for construction this year."

"Ye..yes sir. Righ... Right now we have no actual construction underway..." As Fortus talked his stutter faded away as his confidence grew. "So we have plenty of resources and manpower ready to build whatever the council deems necessary. I would advise however that we build more repairyards and larger shipyards as we do not have any slips large enough to handle the construction of vessels over 1000 meters or repair ones larger the 1300 meters at this time..."

"Sir I insist that we also construct several additional research stations as the single one at Obroa-Skai is simply not adequate for my needs!" Interjected Joyd Cummi.

"I see... Fortus you are correct we are woefully under equipped to service our Fleet. I believe the Admiral will agree with me that we also need re-supply bases as well. These unfortunately take a higher priority then your additional research stations Joyd. If we have the resources and I say again if then we will see about building you another station."

"This is intolerable, if we are to reach our potential we must..."

"Joyd silence! Thank you, now I do have a project in mind for you. Vice Admiral Dalgre's needs ships tailored to the Patrol's needs. I want you to work closely with him and his people to come up with such a vessel. My only stipulation is that it not exceed 800 meters."

At this point the Vice Admiral spoke up. "Sir what am I supposed to use till we start receiving this future cruiser?"

"I'm having Admiral Vibor detatch 3rd Fleet to your command Vice Admiral. Is that satisfactory?"

"Yes sir"

"Pol Norgot what do you have for us?"

"Not much I'm afraid sir. Unless we can establish trade with foreign powers we won't have the resources we need to raise Mechis III up to the standards of the other four worlds or establish any colonies." Norgot shrugged apologetically.

"We'll keep that in mind Pol and one of our goals is to reach agreements with some of the other emerging powers. Admiral Vibor I think I already know what you want, 3rd fleet brought up to the strength of 1st and 2nd and the expansion of our supply chain."

"Yes sir that about covers it at this point."

"Very good and Vibor I need to see you after this meeting is over."

"Of course sir."

Turning to his Generals Kor asked "Do you two have anything for me?"

General Hansu answered "We'll need to expand our numbers at some point if we expect to undertake offensive operations on other worlds. Currently though we have enough troops to police and defend our own territory."

"We will definitely increase your numbers before we try taking over any planets and we'll expand your forces with enough time to allow for proper integration and training." Facing his top Marine Jos said "General Yorke I need to see you afterwards as well."

"Yes sir"

"That leaves you Air Commodore do you have anything to add?"

Commodore Jaksan turns on his noteputer "Yes sir, I'm worried about our V-19's. They're quite old by this point and despite our standard maintenance and life time extension programs they need to be replaced and soon. The TIE Interceptors aren't such a big deal, but I'd like to replace them as well at some point, at the very least initiate an upgrade program to give them shields."

"I understand the need Commodore, unfortunately we need to focus our research on a cruiser for the Patrol. Perhaps after we've made contact with another power we can purchase a new fighter to start replacing your V-19's." The newly proclaimed Supreme Chancellor looked around at his top advisors and then spoke. "This is a great and noble thing we have embarked upon and like and worthy undertaking it is going to demand sacrifices. Some sacrifices will be made with blood and tears. Others will require us to do without. I expect each and everyone of you to recognize that fact and to do your best to minimize the sacrifices you must demand of others. However I also need you to be willing to order sacrifices when there is no other course and to do it without hesitating. I hand picked everyone of you, you are the most qualified for each of your area's I know you'll not disappoint. If I said I needed to see you after please remain if not see to your duties and I will see you later on. Fortus I'll review the manufacturing requests everyone submitted and forward a finalized list to you."

Amidst the low murmur of voice the meeting broke up and soon only Admiral Vibor and Major General Dalgre were left with the Chancellor and Nalassie. "Admiral, General..." Jos Kor's voice was more grave then it had been earlier during the meeting "I am dispatching Warrior Adrana to Dxun to search for and secure the tomb of Fredon Nadd and Ancient Sith Lord. She is to have the full cooperation of your respective commands. If she asks for something she gets it." The two nodded their heads, they understood the potential danger of the Dark Side all to well. "Furthermore General I want a detailed report on the feasibility of establishing a base and on securing enough of the planet to establish a colony."

"You'll have it sir!"

"Thank you both, now I need to go talk to Mentor Zicti."

A little later in Mentor Zicti's sanctum

"Have you felt it Jos?" Zicti's eyes remained closed as he reached out with the Force. "The Force swirls like a maelstorm and not to long ago there was a massive explosion in the Dark Side, since then...." His voice trailed off.

"Since then it's like a pressure on your mind or flutter in your heart, isn't it Mentor?" Jos queried.

Barely heard was Haga Zicti's reply so quite was it. "Yes, I fear the Sith are stirring once again...."

Results: The GR is officially active and sending envoy's to all player nations feel free to write their arrival. Keep in mind none of them have the power to negotiate trade deals or treaties, they're just there to find out if you're willing to deal.

Also a new capital ship is being researched I'll come up with a design sometime, it's going to be 650 meters long. Once I have an actual design I'll submit it to the mods. It's cost will be marked in my spending for this year.

Infrastructure will be heavily expanded this year.

An expedition is being sent to Dxun who know's who or what they'll find.

And finally my Force users know the Sith are active and growing

Capitol Plaza, Giedt, Tiss'Sharl, Gordian Dominion

The view from the top levels of the Dominion Fasthold was quite magnificent. Giedt, the capital city of the Dominion, basked in the light of the early morning sunrise. From the office of Governess Marlos Durell it was possible to see the orange rays of the main sequence star Tiss'Sharl orbited bounce off the thousand million armaglass windows of the central districts. Uncounted speeders, airships and patrol cutters zipped through the air above the multi-layered city, expertly guided to their myriad destinations by the invisible directions of the automated air control systems. Huge constructs towered into the sky throughout the capitol districts: the three spires of the Cloudbuster Towers; the Ask-Ar Kip-de-Sid Belfry, owned by one of the planet's most influential Tiss'Shar clans; the Oshanna Obelisk, occupied entirely by Oshanna Industries.

The governess knew almost every single building in the bewildering forest of minarets, spires and steeples by name. She also knew that none of them quite reached the height of the Fasthold, the seat of Dominion government and power. Karlaus Giedt would be proud mused Marlos Durell. The governess recalled with fondness the old Imperial Moff, her predecessor, who had once ruled this region with a velvet glove in the name of the Emperor. Perhaps mercifully Giedt had died peacefully of old age mere days before the Battle of Endor. Durell doubted the man, proudly Imperial to the core of his being, would've survived the indignity of seeing the Empire fractured.

Her train of thought was interrupted by the sound of the gong that usually informed her that some matter of state required her undivided attention. She stepped away from the window and sat down behind the expansive Kriin-wood desk that dominated her, admittedly spacious, office. “Come!” she called, her tone commanding but pleasantly melodic, the trustworthy voice that had so easily won her the governorship.

The beautifully engraved durasteel door swished open, and in trotted Si-De-Sid, president of the Tiss’shar and second-in-command of the Dominion. The giant reptilian cocked his head in the traditional greeting of his kind, something the governess acknowledged with a curt nod. “President De-Sid” she began formally. “What brings you here this early?”

The president twirled his emaciated fingers, the Tiss'Shar equivalent of a shrug. “A small vessel was just spotted dropping out of hyperspace at the edge of the system. System patrol has intercepted it; it claims to be a diplomatic courier.”

Durell raised an eyebrow. “From whom?”

“They claim to represent a number of core-ward worlds once prominent in the Old Republic. The group calls itself the 'Golden Republic'. According to their communique they are here to open preliminary diplomatic talks.”

“I see” the governess looked pensive. “Well, it can't hurt to see what they have to say, can it? Please grant them permission to dock at Orbital One, then escort them down. I will receive them in the auditorium of the Plaza Beanstalk. See that they are made comfortable – and make sure they get a nice view of the city on their way down, will you?”

Core Districts, Mirial

Mirial was in turmoil. The sudden death of senior Senator Ossus Druul had thrown the Miralian League into chaos; although preliminary examinations of his body had shown no sign of poisoning or other foul play, this hadn't stopped the conservative isolationists from accusing their political opponents, the unificationists, of having had a had in the death of Druul.

Although the unificationists insisted that they had nothing to do with the senator's death, it was clear that his demise had the potential to be politically advantageous to their camp. A vote was coming up on whether Mirial should open relations with the Dominion or not. Druul had been the most prominent opponent of that motion. With him out of the way, the chances of the motion passing had gone up significantly.

The isolationists, however, weren't going down that easily. Protests rocked the streets of cities planet-wide, and the populace in increasingly louder tones called for a referendum on the matter. But the majority of the senators of the Miralian League weren't having any of that. The political elites of the planet clung deeply to the notion that they, and they alone, were the deciders of Miralia's course. They refused to consider any viewpoint but their own, even as the protests slowly but surely slid from peaceful, to peaceful but angry, to increasingly more violent...

Palace of the Sith Lords, Valley of Golg, Korriban

“So you finally decided to come home.” Mari Indigo phrased it as a conclusion, not a question, as she stalked into the inner sanctum of the master of Korriban. “Did you bring me anything nice?”

Hariman Jacht, dark lord of the Sith and ruler of the Sith Empire, chuckled under his breath and turned to the impetuous dark Jedi who was his most trusted henchwoman. “Does the reformation of the Sith Triumvirate count?”

“No, it does not.” Indigo petulantly crossed her arms. “You went to Dromund Kaas, home to the legendary Prophets of the Dark Side, and all you got was a miserable blood oath? At the very least you could've brought me a nice dark artifact.”

“Maybe next time.” Jacht shed his ceremonial black robe and sat down on the stony throne in the middle of the sanctum. No sooner did his hands touch the obsidian stone that an effortless pulse of Dark Side energy coursed through the ancient palace. With a nearly inaudible buzz the glow-globes in the expansive hall switched on, throwing an eerie, though oddly enough not unpleasant, orange light through the sanctum, and upon the myriad workbenches and bookcases full of ancient tomes and dark side devices within it. Smugly steepling his fingers Jacht locked his eyes on the dark Jedi. “Anything interesting happen in my absence?”

“Hardly. And I'm amazed at the amount of paperwork that comes with the title of 'Dark Lord'.” Mari Indigo looked annoyed. “Personally I've no idea why Palpatine thought it worth the effort. Most of the time I felt like a bloody paper pusher. What's the point of "unlimited power"," she used her fingers to etch quotation marks in the air, "if you can't even leave the office to enjoy it?”

Jacht smiled in honest amusement. “It's the thought that counts.”

“Yes well, ruling a bunch of stupid planets is overrated if you ask me. Anyway, whilst you were gone the engineers managed to finish the plans for the Centurion II. We should be able to begin construction as soon as our new shipyards come online.” Indigo stalked over to a holoprojector set, which had been craftily hidden in one of the pillars that held up the vaulted roof of the sanctum. Jacht was somewhat quirky for a Sith Lord, but even he had a sense of decorum. It wouldn't do to have modern equipment openly defiling the neatly brooding presence of his sanctum – but then it would be difficult to do without such equipment either. Camouflage was a nice middle road.

Mari Indigo fed a holodisk into the projector, which promptly produced a blueish hologram of a formidable-looking warship in the middle of the room.
Centurion II class battlecruiser

Image

Name: Centurion II class battlecruiser
Faction: Sith Empire only
Length: 1,200 m
Building time: 10 months
Cost: 9 points
Armament: 6 Heavy Turbolasers, 8 Medium Turbolasers, 24 point-defence laser cannons, 2 Proton Torpedo launchers, 4 Tractor Beams
Fighter complement: 36 starfighters
Consumables: 6 years
Crew: 16,000 + 4,400 troops
Role: Heavy raider, reconnaissance, long range strike

The Centurion II is a design based on the celebrated Centurion class, a capital ship used by the ancient Sith Triumvirate of bygone times, most famously by Darth Nihilus. The resurgent Sith Empire uses these ships as 'light' Star Destroyers, whose task is to independently scout for possible targets and engage lesser warships.

The Centurion II trades armor, shield strength and hangar space for an overpowered drive system and heavy firepower, meaning they are not intended to stand up against the guns they themselves carry. The admirals of the Supreme Battlefleet see this ship as a fast and hard-hitting raider which in a skirmish operates independently from the main wall of battle, preying on weaker vessels and engaging more powerful warships with accurate gunnery at greater ranges.

Because the Centurion II is only moderately modernized from the ancient design upon which it is based this warship has a relatively high crew demand. Ships of this type also can inflict much more punishment than they can absorb, making them relatively vulnerable when cornered.
“Impressive” Jacht seemed pleased. “Most impressive. Truly a ship worthy of the Sith Empire.”

“Yeah, well.” Indigo shrugged, obviously not caring much for the fine art of Sith warship design. “If you say so.”

Every society, all government, and every kind of civil compact therefore, is or ought to be, calculated for the general good and safety of the community.
-George Mason

The Commission for Public Safety
Provisional Hall
G'Rinn Go City
Sullust

At what price victory? Kaen Keb, Chairman of the Commission for Public Safety had been ruminating over that very question for the last three years. The New Republic had been at war since it's inception, and for what? The latest reports from Coruscant were heartbreaking for one who had stood for the Revolution and fought for so long.

"... And in conclusion, there can be no doubt that the Imperial Remnant has effectively knit together a significant portion of the Warlord States into the core of what can only be described as a Second Empire."

Memish Pho, the Spymaster-General of the Commission and head of New Republic Intelligence put down his brief, fretting slightly with his absurdly oversized human hands. "Essentially, my fellow commissioners, the Empire is centralizing and organizing while the member states of this Republic have largely failed to acknowledge their commitments to the common defense."

Grappia Enga, the Inspector-General of the Defense Force, snorted derisively. "That's putting it mildly, Memish. They've practically tripped over themselves to establish independent states. You won't find one citizen in a thousand outside the Sectors who hold the Senate to be worth a damn, and frankly I can't blame them."

While Memish was too appalled to respond, Chairman Keb was nothing if not quick to retort. "Mme. Inspector, I hasten to point out that whatever misguided notions the common man on the street might hold, you know as well as I that the law of the land makes the Senate that meets in this room the legitimate authority over the entirety of the Galactic Republic. Simply because there has been a massive breakdown of organization and grave loss of life does not make that any less the case. A decade ago we would have been thrilled to see a whole Battlegroup and supporting industrial conglomerate in our hands. However diffuse the Republic has become, we were worse off during the Rebellion, and still rose to crush the Empire."

Grappia sighed. "Except there is no Emperor to conveniently assassinate, just a vast cabal of regency councilors who enjoy significant public support. And instead of a few trillion oppressed people yearning for freedom, we have a brace of successor states more interested in setting up private satrapies than the common good."

Ked nodded for a moment. "What brought down the Palpatine Dynasty?"

The Consul of Malastare, a willowy Gran named Que Sem, piped up. "A decisive military strike at a weak-spot?"

Dane Felden, the Consul of Eriadu, shook his head. "On the contrary, it was power of the Force as embodied by Skywalker combined with Palpatine's fixation on force-wizardry over statesmanship."

That was when Cadnebar spoke up. Instantly, the hubbub of the meeting cut short. The Jedi Knight was not one to speak, and was notorious for acting as an essential nonentity in the Commission. His professed disinterest in politics made him persona non grata in this clique- but even in these times, the word of a Jedi held a certain weight.

"We brought him down."

Dane cocked his head. "Don't be so self serving. There were hardly and Jedi at..."

"Not we Jedi. We people. The Palpatine Dynasty was doomed the very moment it became clear to the multitudes that there were other choices than just knuckling under. What changed after Endor wasn't the military balance, or even the political- it was the personal. Every sentient was shown that the status quo was not just. They were reminded that there was once something better. An with that realization, Endor showed them that something could be done about it. After that, the decline of the Empire and the rise of this august republic was assured." Cadnebar, who had risen to his feet during this unprecedented monologue, sat down as if deflated, as if engaging in policymaking had diminished him somehow.

Kaen Keb had been listening raptly, nodding his little head every few moments. "The Republic is seen as defeated, and so it is- in the minds of the enemy, in the minds of the Republican successor states, and in the minds of the populace at large." He seemed sad. "And why not? Ever since Coruscant we have been on the defensive."

Wem-Par-Saen, the Controller-General of the Treasury, spoke up through it's translator. "Then let us go on the offensive. We must remind the Galaxy that the Republic yet stands. In fact, SoroSuub is more than willing to sell the government munitions on credit. We- ah, they feel that this defensive mindset has done nothing but cripple our options in the Oversector. Hells, an entire Imperial faction is just across the Border in Manticore, unscathed!"

Kaen shook his head. "Not yet. Our position is tenuous. But we must make efforts in other directions- first, with regards to the successor states. Why are there no Bothans in this room? Why no Gungans? The Senate still meets, and Republic military forces still guard those regions. We must reach out to them, convince them that the Republic is a cause worth fighting for. And we must attempt to bring as much of the Navy as possible under central command."

The rest of the session turned to the details of execution- the myriad of tiny operations which seemed to keep even this tiny New Republic bureaucracy in a constant state of toil. But for better or worse, action would be taken...

Dispatches
To the Concordat Alliance,

To Her Excellency the Queen Raynaa Saviya, Sovereign of Naboo and Protector of Chommell,

[About a page and a half of florid greeting prose I have no desire to duplicate here, in essence describing how wonderful and powerful Raynaa Saviya is and thanking her for existing on behalf of the Secretary of State of the New Republic -ed]

... Which brings me to wonder why your Excellency has seen fit to discontinue the dispatch of Senators to the Floor. It is my pleasure to inform you that this Government, though currently in a state of Emergency, still holds to the promises, articles, and most importantly, Ideals of the Republic. As a signatory and Member in Good Standing of that Republic, Naboo is entitled to a seat in the Senate. Additionally, it has come to our attention that certain segments of the common Defense Force have taken up residence on and around Naboo for the duration of this Emergency. It is my pleasure to inform you that with the appointment of an Inspector-General to head the New Republic Defense Force, this Commission has dispatched a mission to establish communications with said forces. This Government is interested in the purchase or lease of Territory for the establishment of a Command Center to bring those forces back under central control; since you owe three years of back taxes to the Republic, a 20-year lease on a small moon would suffice.

I am, as always, in your Excellency's service,
G.B. Fenbasmeline, Secretary of State of the New Republic

To the Bothan Confederacy

To the Right Honorable Chancellor Albert Ark of the Bothan Confederacy,

[More of the same -ed]

... And this being the case, it is my duty to remind the Confederacy as a whole and it's member states in particular that the next session of the Senate, opening next week, is still treaty-bound to accept representatives. Should the Confederacy as a whole wish to send a single representative, I am sure some agreement could be made, but the individual member planets are all still entitled to representation. Moreover, new Acquisitions, such as Ylesia whose freedom your have paid so Dearly to Obtain, would be free to Sign the Republic Charter and Articles should they so desire. Additionally, it is my pleasure to inform you that with the appointment of an Inspector-General to head the New Republic Defense Force, this Commission has dispatched a mission to establish communications with said forces. This Government is interested in the purchase or lease of Territory for the establishment of a Command Center to bring those forces back under central control; since you owe three years of back taxes to the Republic, a 20-year lease on a small moon would suffice. Please take the time to catalogue which forces belong to planetary defense fleets and which were segments of the 3rd and 12th Battle Groups, as our records as of this moment as unfortunately Corrupted.

I am, as always, in your Honors service,
G.B. Fenbasmeline, Secretary of State of the New Republic

To the Rim Alliance

Tatooine

The Nebulon B-2 Frigate Baelarian arrived, broadcasting messages of greeting-

<<On the behalf of the Galactic Republic, we request permission to land a shuttle and open diplomatic relations.>>

Results

-Diplomats dispatched to the Bothan Confederacy, Rim Alliance, and the Concordat Alliance.
-General Kasperan of the NRDF dispatched to the League Militaire- his ship will be arriving shortly!
- The Pragmatic League, a Sullustan-headed segment of the New Republic which claims to be a direct continuance of the Republic, is now in the game and open for activity!

(OOC: I am going forward with my conference stuff as some imperial players are too busy. These will just have to catch up in dreaded UNREAL TIME).

At the conference

As the leader of the Core Protectorate had finished signing, it was up to Ragez D'Asta to deliver the closing words.

“Fellow citizens of the galaxy, today we have taken the first step towards reclaiming civilization. This is a day of celebration, but there will be days of labor ahead. For our work has just begun. But it will have an end and rest assured that this end will be the beginning of a new, glorious age. Citizens of the galaxy, we bid you farewell.”

On cue, the Imperial March started playing and to the tune of it, the delegates and Imperial council members departed for their shuttles.

***********************
Lord Praji's skyhook
central hall
1 hour later

The delegates had been served snacks and were now gathering around the room. To his satisfaction, D'Asta noted that the servers were both discreet and efficient, while the food tasted excellent. Praji always had good taste. But it was time to make a speech again.

Nodding to the red guards posted at the entrance, he walked towards the small which had been erected in the middle of the room. The two guards soon clicked their heels together, with the unfamiliar sound carrying throughout the hall and causing the delegates to momentarily quiet down.

“Thank you. Your majesties, fellow excellencies, councillors, delegates. Welcome. Before I start, I cannot tell you how delighted I am that several delegations from non-imperial parties have arrived, including many heads of states. Let us applaud their willingness to cross old divides. A round of applause for the representatives the Bothan confederacy, the Temporary Stellar Authority of Balmorra and the Neimoidian Skakoan Confederacy. “

After the applause had died down, Ragez D'Asta spoke up once more. “Rest assured, the Core alliance will not forget this kindness. I also would like to thank his excellency Lord Praji for volunteering this beautiful skyhook for the conference.

I am proud of how much the Imperial Remnant has accomplished. Two years ago, the core lay in ruins. Now, we have become a nation of former Republic and Imperial citizens. We have rebuilt Axum. We have just passed funds to completely rebuilt Anaxes. We will rebuilt Coruscant. And we have just signed a treaty guaranteeing that no enemy will have the luxury of facing us alone.

My fellow councilmembers will speak about our plans in detail later. Anything I could say now would simply cheapen the impact of their words. I will however speak of one thing which is very dear to me – the independence from further Sith dominance. Today we saw firsthand what Sith dominance leads to. We all must work towards ensuring this never happens again.

To this aim, all member nations of the Core alliance have dedicated ships towards forming a standing defence fleet which will be stationed around Coruscant. The Remnant will be contributing one Allegiance class command ship and two Imperial II class Star Destroyers. Together, these ships will prevent another catastrophe like the one below us. Members of the Core alliance will also cooperate with each other in technical matters. To this end, the Remnant and the Second Corellian Empire have agreed to built a holonet station on Corellia. The Remnant will sell this technology at cost to other friendly nations as well.”

After a short moment of silence in order to let these words sink in, Ragez concluded his speech. “But more on this later. Gentlebeings, thank you for your attention.”

The delegates answered this with another round of applause and Ragez D'Asta was finally glad to have a moment to catch his breath. In 45 minutes, the next speech would start. Which should just give him enough time to get something to eat.

However, his hopes proved to be in vain as his daughter approached him, carrying a datapad. “What is it, Feena?” “Mirith has just informed me that our spynet has reported that a number of other nations appear to come out of their isolation. Also, there is reportedly movement in the Vulpter system. These are the contingency plans the diplomatic corps has for these events.” She passed him the datapad. Ragez studied it for a second. “I have also made some additions.” Ragez nodded. “I can see that. Do you think our diplomats can handle this? Shouldn't you be on the way?”

Feena shook her head. “No. The diplomatic corps has been taken for a lightweight long enough. Remember how Lord Praji pushed to have it abolished and declared it a waste of funds? These people are highly trained, they can handle it. Besides, it would send a bad signal if I would suddenly disappear from the conference. Mirith and Jurang both agree, we discussed it on the way up.”

Ragez D'Asta nodded. His daughter clearly was more and more ready each day to take over should he no longer be able to discharge his duties. “Very well. You have my approval.”

secluded conference room

Other parties were using the period before the next speech for meetings as well. In a secluded room, Moff Jurang Saenger was meeting with the Neimoidian Prime Minister Tul Setka. As protocol demanded, Saenger kept standing until the higher ranking head of state had sat down first.

“Prime Minister, thank you for coming. I hope you found the food accpetable? Our teams have already finished discussing the terms of agreement, allow me to restate them for the benefit of the record."
- The Neimoidian Skakoan Confederacy will supply the empire with one droid factory to be built at Axum and will also transfer technological knowledge regarding droid construction to the Imperial Remnant.
- In return, the Imperial Remnant will transfer technological plans regarding holonet station construction and Imperial Engineers will help built a holonet station on whatever world the Neimoidian Skakoan Confederacy choses.
- Neither side will profit in any way except a mutual exchange of technologies.
Saenger produced a code cylinder and handed it over to the Prime Minister. “As you can see, I have been authorized to sign this treaty on behalf of the Imperial Remnant. Regent D'Asta would gladly have done so himself, but as you can see he is a bit busy at the moment.”

***********************
Skyhook
secret meeting room

In another, even more secluded room, Mirith Sinn dropped her nightcloak and was greeted with the sight of the director of the Bothan Spynet, Dresk Ay'le. Like her, he had excused himself from the party, donned a nightcloak on the way out and had made his way to here. Saenger's more public exit with the Neimoidians had generated enough attention so that they had been able to slip out completely undetected.

They did not shake hands, but merely nodded. No record of this meeting was to be kept, aside from one note in the most heavily protected files of their intelligence agencies. They were also professional enough not to waste their time with idle pleasantries.

“Director. Did you have a chance to think about the proposal?”
Spoiler
Imperial Intelligence and the Bothan Spynet will cooperate in matters regarding the Sith. This includes, but is not limited to:
- advance notice of operations in Sith territory
- mutual sharing of sources and intelligence gained
- notice if one party notices the sith gathering for an attack on another or allies of that nation
- mutual sanctuary for spies in the respective embassies of both nations
- a pledge to stop all operations sabotaging each other. This is restricted only to operations involving the Sith.

The Jensaarai Aiella had just about enough from all this rhetoric. The influence of the Yalsamiri was making her head ache as well and she still felt vaguely nauseous. As she was making her way to the food – on second revelation, she should better not eat something right now – she noticed another woman, wearing an unfamiliar uniform. This women looked somewhat affected as well.
Interesting.....

She walked up to her and extended her hand. “Greetings. I represent the Jensaarai.”

Ord Cantrell
Imperial Diplomatic Corps headquarters

After receiving the orders from Feena D'Asta, the diplomatic corps sprung into action. Within seconds, the following actions had been taken, mostly drawing on the Ord Cantrell fleet for ships.

As the Federal Republic of Nysacia was considered a neutral party and not particularly hostile towards the Imperial Remnant, Feena had decided on a standard approach. One Vindicator class cruiser, bearing Diplomat Ry Shen (female human), left within the hour for the Republic, broadcasting the standard diplomatic signal.

The Cultural Union of the Core was described as a former seperatist stronghold in the intelligence briefs. Although not overtly hostile, the Lady D'Asta had decided on a more cautious approach. Therefore, after checking with Lord Praji, one of the most capable captains in the Imperial Starfleet had been chosen for the task. The ISD-II Retaliator, a veteran of the Battle of Endor and Coruscant and commanded by Captain of the Line Hunt (male human), left the core fleet and headed for the Vulpter system.

Although spies reported the Golden Republic had sent envoys already, it was decided to sent a mission as well to their capital world considering that the power of the envoys to actually negotiate was unclear. As the Golden Republic was not considered a hostile power, a Vindicator class cruiser carrying Diplomat Lorth Trun (male human) was dispatched to Alsakan.

As spies reported that the Pragmatic League was both a hotbed of anti-imperialism and considered itself the successor – nay, the continuation – of an enemy, it was decided that the larger the envoy, the better. To sooth their feelings and in order to show that the Remnant was not Palpatine 2.0, a Bakuran was chosen to lead the mission. Diplomat Mara Ossilege (female human), sister to flag captain Hortel Ossilege, was advised that this situation required as much tact as possible. In order to ensure that the Pragmatic League would not simply shoot down the approaching ship, a task force under the command of Rear-Admiral Wyrm, the commander of the Ord Cantrell fleet, was ordered to carry her to the territory. This task force consisted of 1 Allegiance class command ship (the Fealty) and three ISD-II star destroyers (Eviscerator, Tyrannic[/s] and Obliterator). Due to the shortage of cruisers, none could be sent.

All ships would broadcast diplomatic signals at all times.

OOC Results:
- Imperial Remnant dispatches ambassadors. See above for details.

Mara Ossilege was surprised at the sort of figure G.B. Fenbasmeline cut- The Secretary of State for the Pragmatic League (and by extension, temporarily of the New Republic,) seemed to be the very sort of court fop which the League railed so virulently against. The intel files showed that he was a Chandrilan, and a formerly a functionary on Mon Mothma's staff- but it was hard to make a connection between the unimpressive bureaucrat from the records, the absurd dandy in front of her, and the man who had become one of the more powerful figures in the League.

"Mme. Ossilege, it is an Honor and Privilege to make your acquaintance..."

The Bakuran pretty much tuned out the next three or four minutes, which consisted largely of flowery speech, compliments, and salutations, which all boilled down to "I know who you are, hello."

"...And of course, I simply can't imagine what brings you to Sullust with such a magnificent show of force! Of course we are at war, but it would be beneath the Dignity of this August Body to so much as harm a hair on the head of a diplomat protected, as you are, by all the Rules of Civilization. In fact, I can't imagine what brings you to Sullust at all."

At this, he finally paused to let her speak.

Tul Setka took the code cylinder and affixed his signature to the treaty. "Moff Saenger if it would not be too much trouble we would like the holonet station on our capital of Cato Neimoidia." Moff Saenger took the code cylinder and replied that it would not be a problem. "Prime Minister I would like to thank you for putting aside old differences to sign this treaty." Tul Setka replied that he would pass on the news of the treaty to the Trade Monarch and told Moff Saenger that the Neimoidian Skakoan Confederacy wished the Imperial Remnant the best of luck in their future endeavors. Moff Saenger returned the sentement and than invited the prime minister to to hear the 15:45: Speech by Prime Minister Gaeriel Captison-Thanas. Tul Setka replied he would be glad to hear the speech and got up to leave. Moff Saenger got up as well and they left to enjoy the party before the speech.

Effects The treaty has been ratified an we have chosen where to place the holonet station.

At this, he finally paused to let her speak.
Ossilege smiled before answering. My, this is one crafty fellow. He likes to blabber and then deliver a backhanded insult aka "why don't you just kriff off" instead of inquiring what to expect.

"First of, Honorable Secretary Fenbasmeline, I did not know a state of war existed between our nations. In fact, I cannot ever remembering Bakura deciding to go to war with Sullust and after the battle of Coruscant, hostilities ceased all over the galaxy because there was nobody left to fight. I can assure you that the Imperial Remnant has no interest in renewing hostilities."

She paused a moment before continuing. "Should you however hold firm in your opinion that a state of war exists between our nations, I would like to take this opportunity to propose both a ceasefire and a peace treaty."

She then produced a datapad. "In fact, when I came here I was prepared to offer two treaties, which I still do, contingent of course on the signing of a peace treaty.

First of all, the Imperial Remnant wishes to sign a treaty of mutual recognition and diplomatic contact. The terms of this treaty are as follows:
1. All signatory states will recognize that the other state is a sovereign state in its own right.
2. All signatories will stipulate that the other is the rightful sovereign over its territory and people
3. All signatories will enter into diplomatic contact, to be kept either by the stationing of permament ambassadors on the respective capital worlds.
4. The signatory state "The Imperial Remnant" will pay for the stationing of an ambassador and his staff in a luxury compley in Ord Cantrell. This compley will be considered sovereign territory of the Pragmatic League.
5. Likewise, the Pragmatic League will pay for an embassy of similar size and comforts to be opened by the Imperial Remnant in the Capital City of Sullust.
I also would like to propose a trade pact between our nations. My homeworld Bakura exports repulsorlifts and luxury agrarian products like luxury wine, which would most likely come in handy considering your relationship with the SoroSuub corporation. The world of Axum also supplies a large range of industrial products. In exchange, we would like raw materials and construction materials for use in the reconstruction of Coruscant."

The Ambassador handed over the datapad. "Honorable Secretary, the galaxy has changed. There is no need for us to be enemies anymore. Look at me - I am from a planet that rebelled and drove the empire off for good and now I am representing their state. We are not the empire anymore, we are Remnants. I think you should give us a little credit."

At the edge of the Vulptur system, the Retaliator dropped out of hyperspace. Diplomatic codes were sent and accepted and soon Captain Hunt was sitting right across from Rina Fio.

"Madam, the Remnant would like to propose the following:

1. a treaty concerning the mutual sovereignty of each other and diplomatic contact:
4. The Imperial Remnant will pay for the stationing of an ambassador and his staff in a luxury compley in Ord Cantrell. This complex will be considered sovereign territory of the Cultural Union.
5. Likewise, the Cultural Union will pay for an embassy of similar size and comforts to be opened by the Imperial Remnant in the Capital City of Vulpter.

"We also would like to sign a trade pact with your nation. Please name what goods you would be interested in. We are interested in construction materials and raw minerals for use in our factories."

He handed over a datapad holding more details on the treaties.

"We would also be interested in your cyborg and AI technology. Though my authority does not go that far, I think a treaty exchanging holonet technology for cyborg and AI technology would be in both our nations interests and would be approved by my superiors."

"You are correct, Mme. Ossilege, that there was no one left to fight in the Core. That's why Coruscant is currently in the hands of cabal of Imperial sympathizers as opposed to the legitimate Galactic Republic for which your very state owes it's continued existance. Now matters have changed. Despite our exile, we still believe in the Obligations of State which the Galatic Republic carried out before and after the unfortunate Imperial abberation.
I would only home, Mme., that your own people might display a similar idealism as opposed to consorting with a government which consists of Imperial military dictators, corrupt kleptocrats, and Gentlemen known to associate with Darth Vader.

Now, as for your proposed treaty, it is of course obvious that the Imperial Remnant is rightful sovereign over Coruscant and the Core- if, that is, you embrace such disgraceful Imperial philosophies as Right by Conquest.

As the New Republic does not hold to such barbarous innovations, I must offer a counter-proposal.
1. The Formal Surrender of the Imperial Remnant to the New Republic and an admission of illegitimacy, formally ceding all claims to the Imperial Throne or command of the State and repudiating the legitimacy of the New Order to control the Galactic Republic.
2. The Planet of Coruscant to be evacuated promptly by Imperial forces, and the cession of that world to the care of the New Republic.
3. The Extradition of General Daine Jir and his Excellency Nahdonnis the Lord Prahji to face investigation and trials for their actions in the service of Darth Vader.
4. The Release of SoroSuub and other former Corporate property to their original Sullustan owners on all Remnant worlds.
5. The Return to Republic control of all seized Fleet Assets, Military Bases, and other peices of Federal Property taken since the death of Palpatine in the Remnant worlds.
6. The Remand of Mirith Sinn to Republic authority to undergo trial for dereliction of duty and treason.
"As we have long considered the Imperial Remnant to be a sovereign state, albeit one which has vastly overstepped it's actual condition as a small collection of holdout worlds, I feel no need to sign a paper asserting thus. Once the above agreements are ratified, of course your world, as well as the others under the command of the Imperial Rump, would be free to join or ignore the Galactic Republic as they see fit, seperately or as a whole. Our quarrel exists only so long as you claim Coruscant and the Legacy of the intolerable institituion which was Palpatine's New Order.

Of course, our terms are negotiable."

Ord Mirit: Capital Square, Founding Officers Club HQ Hall

The almost perpetually relaxed air in the Hall had been a constant reminder of the luck that allowed soldiers to make it to retirement. Today though even the band was missing; and the air was polluted by that most despicable substance, Politics. Today was the deciding date for the Clubs review of the diplomatic situation the TSAB found itself in. Of particular interest and debate was the recent proposal by the Vulptur Central computer for a defensive arrangement.

Felix Merton was narrating the summaries of the Diplomatic Corps reports to the assembled club members. "...and the next subject is the ramifications, militarily and politically for excepting the alliance. Mikaere Hemi's report details the most significant problems on the political spectrum of this conundrum. The summation stresses the improbability of predicting the actions of the Cultural Union, mainly that TRILLIAN appears to be ruling a nation without any voice for the people to influence his actions. While TRILLIAN should be expected to do what is calculated to be best for the Union we can not expect normal measures of gauging the populace for popular opinion to work correctly." A hand was raised and Felix acknowledged its owner.

"My name is Tane Piripi, and I was wondering if the report details the political damage that might come from the alliance do to the perceived dangers of another droid revolution?"

"Not as such, the matter was deemed to hard to predict. There is a not that many imperial nations still have droid phobia and that we are already on the edge of inflaming that fear ourselves thanks to our ownership of both Foundry and Balmorra. Inteligence Chief Chrono, do you have anything to add before we continue?"

"Yes, after some digging through the archives we found an old signal intercept of a post Endor Rebellion report on Bakura. The contents were written by Leia Organa and was a diplomatic brief for Alliance reference. It noted the complete and utter lack of droids in private Bakuran hands and the cultural reasons for the lack. Seeing as the Bakurans form the least imperialist of the Imperial Remnant and likely the CORE Alliance as well, it is well worth noting."

"The next element of the Review is the Military situation this arrangement would put us in," Chrono continued into his divisions reports. "As most of you are aware our own mobile assets are lacking in Stardestroyer level of firepower. We do make up for that in strong starfighter elements. The worries are that the Cultural Union shares our weakness and could provide little to defend our own planets. They multiply the lack of heavy warships with a larger build up of stationary defenses, defenses that would do us no good in a war. In total we have a greater number of mobile elements to assist in defending them than the number of mobile elements that the have to defend us with."

...
ooc: I have yet to decide on the matter myself. I'll respond to the CORE meeting latter today, hopefully.
