Sirnoth "Police Action" live fire exercise for new MESS weapons
With the OD War Ministry confirming that pre-production units of the MQ-47B carrier-borne UCAV are flying over Sirnoth, it is becoming increasingly clear that the so-called "Liberation" is in actuality a live fire exercise for it's new toys. Besides these stealth drones, the Old Dominion has deployed all 3 of it's commissioned STAR cruisers, used it's nuclear weapons, and, according to sources from the Sirnoth Defense Department, used pre-production YB-3s on the first day of airstrikes to destroy the fixed air defense radars. The same sources reported that 2 contacts moving at Mach 3.2 at 70,000 ft launched a total of 40 SRAMs that shattered central control of the air defemses on the first day. As the YB-3s are stationed at Argyle Air Base deep within the Shepistani quarantine zone, there is no way to know what activity is going on there.
But the Old Dominion is not the only MESS nation there to test out "new toys".
Shinra has deployed it's PHIBRON-5, no doubt so it can use it's AV-35 stealth jump jets in combat, and make them more marketable on the world stage with "combat proven" stamped on it's side.
Meanwhile, Tian Xia has stationed it's "Stealth Eagles" in Shepland for the intervention, and subordinated it's Midgetmen batteries to the Old Dominion Global Strike Command. That this all flared up right as Tian Xia begin to expand it's control of the F-ing continent leads one to wonder if this is a calculated move on the part of the MESS to create a distraction...[More]

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Klavostan
The Alliance to Protect the Sultanate, or APS, as the Coup plotters were now calling themselves, continued to have near total control over the airwaves and what outside observers could see of the unfolding drama. This kept most of the world from seeing that they were having problems with the Sultan’s Janissary Corps. After the initial confusion the Janissaries had rallied quickly under the command of General Morphers.
File photo of Morphers.
The APS had thought of the Janissaries as mainly a bunch of parade ground apes, incapable of putting up a real fight. Enough competent personnel from the mercenary parts of Klavostan’s armed forces made it into the Janissaries to make things nasty. They also had a lot more heavy equipment than the coup plotters had on hand, they having been unable to secure many tanks or aircraft.
Thus the APS, acting, as they put it, as the official government trying to restore the Sultan’s two year old nephew to the throne asked their neighbor and old ally Indhopal to help them put down the treacherous Janissaries revolt. Indhopal was responding minutes before the call even went out. Indhopalese jets crashed Klavostan’s air defense network and started to decimate the Janissaries air assets almost immediately. It helped that the APS had a good number of agents in the air defense command and that there was a hell of a lot of confusion up and down the entire Klavostani command chain.
An Indhopal Air Force Gripen returns from a sortie.
Indhopal made use of cheap drones as decoys and took full advantage of their limited numbers of 5th gen fighters and AWACS support to go after the Janissaries. Even so, Indhopal’s air offensive in support of the APS was not bloodless.
The APS used Indhopal’s air superiority to press home their advantage. It looked like the Janissaries that were fighting would be finished within 72 hours. Most of the mercenary forces continued to sit the fight out. But with the APS gaining the upper hand they were getting more mercenary captains to sign up with their "movement."

Fabowice, PeZookia
FILE PHOTO: Detective Christine de la Vallière, circa late 2014
Detective Christine de la Vallière was a recent arrival to Fabowice, having been sent there by her superiors in the Langley National Police to pass on information to her PeZookian counterparts and assist them in their investigations. While the intel gathered by KGB Colonel Voroshilov in the aftermath of the People's Victory raid was considerable, there were still a few gaps in the overall picture; Detective de la Vallière came bearing a few more pieces of the puzzle, gleaned from recent LNP raids on various criminal operations all throughout the Duchy of Langley.
"Hi, I'm Detective Christine de la Vallière of the Langley National Police," she greeted the various officers of the ASTF as she entered their office. "I've been sent here to assist in your investigations, and I come bearing more information that you may be interested in."
Christine took out a pendrive of her own and plugged it into an unattended computer. "Yesterday, the LNP conducted various simultaneous raids all throughout the Duchy of Langley. Overall, we wound up with a lot of dead criminals, some imprisoned women, a shitload of pirated anime merchandise, and quite a few interesting documents. This drive only contains a preliminary analysis, but it should suffice for now," she explained as she brought up the appropriate files. "While the Langley yakuza have traditionally focused on operations in Zoria, Serenity, and the various Frequesquean and Velarian states for their overseas criminal activities, we've found that they've started making major inroads into various Old Continent rackets over the past few years, including human trafficking here in PeZookia and in the Border States. From what we've determined, it's a very simple arrangement: The yakuza get weapons and Old Continent women from the slavers, and the slavers get drugs, dōjinshi, pirated anime and games, and Frequesquean and Velarian women from the yakuza. Again, this is only a preliminary analysis; I'll disclose new findings to you as soon as they come up."

Late news breaking, this just in…
The Syndicate of the North Frequesuan Trust has condemned the Klavostani Janissary Corps for its involvement in the assassination of Sultan Osman of Klavostan. “The Janissaries are a symptom of everything that’s wrong with our continent”, a spokesperson said. “A military force grown far too influential and too keen on seizing power for themselves, with all the dire consequences we’ve come to know so well.” The Syndicate asked the Janissaries to cease their revolt and surrender to the Alliance to Protect the Sultanate, “which is fighting for the legitimate heir to the throne”.

Imperial Byzantine Navy issues contract to Constantinople Shipyards to begin constructing Continental class carrier from 2018
The Imperial Byzantine Navy has issued a contract to Constantinople Shipyards to begin construction of a new Continental Class carrier from 2018. The technical issues will be sorted out over the 3 years, and Constantinople Shipyards will begin construction of the large carrier from 2018 at the Naval Arsenal at Constantinople. Meanwhile, the Navy indicated that a new heavy LHD carrier is in design stage and should also commence construction around the same time as the construction of the first Continental class carrier for the navy. Construction of the Continental class carrier is anticipated to last 8 years, with the carrier entering full commissioning only in 2028 earliest. The heavy LHD is expected to require 6-7 years to complete construction as well.

CATO to conduct major naval exercise off North Frequesue Trust
Order of the Crimson Banner Northern Open Seas Fleet
The New Nuclear Carrier NNC-01, the pride of the UCSR fleet, built without a name and christened "Comrade Stanislav" soon after the Crimson President's peaceful retirement, crossed the waves of the High Seas en route to the NFT, accompanied by large nuclear multi-purpose escorts - not as large as the usual "Kirov" class, the hulls of which were now in the process of being decommissioned, but still huge - and new Union destroyers 21956 which replaced the Pr.956 Sovremenny class. The "21" stood for XXI century.
Next Month the best Union Navy battlegroup would be participating in a joint CATO Naval exercise off the Coast of the North Frequesue Trust. The Navy's latest additions the Su-53 air superiority fighters will be used. The "Comrade Stanislav" was the only carrier so far given these new machines, and they were quite impressive machines.

Military Naval Base at Constantinople
The IBNS Heraclius and her battlegroup, consisting of 3 CGNs, the Maurice, Basil, Sulla, and 3 DDGs, Genoa, Venice, Syracuse and 1 DDG, Syria and 8 other frigates, and 3 Seawolf submarines, and 4 Akula II Modernized (Byzantine), and 2 Invisible Hand ships made ready to leave. Accompanying them were 2 MARS-R Fleet Replenishment vessels, and 2 MARS-O Fleet Oilers, and 2 MARS-S Submarine tenders. The carrier air group had her squadron of F-14Es replaced with Su-53s. The Su-53 was only slowly filtering into the fleet, and by year end, a full regiment would be deployed on the Heraclius, including the existing squadron. A squadron of MiG SKATs were also on board, ready for the most intensive deployment ever.
The IBNS Flavius, a Wasp class carrier, also made ready to leave with her ESG, together with 1 LSD and 2 LSTs, with a Marine Expeditionary Force on board.
Together, the ESG and the CVBG would sail for the NFT and participate in the exercises there.

NFS Monkeylord, pride of the North Frequesuan Navy
… on the NFT side the Paragon has announced that the aeronaval surface group lead by the carrier NFS Monkeylord will participate in the massive exercise. It will be the first time NFT warships practice together with CATO vessels. According to a spokesperson for the Committee for the Armed Forces elements of the Air Force and Rocket Forces will likely be involved in the exercises as well.
Among the other NFAF and NFN assets participating in the exercises will be the Ruby, the first of the North Frequesuan Navy’s brand new Barracuda-class nuclear attack submarines. Says Admiral Ramanujan: “It will be exciting to see how she stands up to Old Continent submarines.” Ruby has not yet officially entered service, but is in the process of conducting a years worth of sea trials, in which the exercise will be incorporated.
Perhaps interestingly the LHD Pride and Profit will not participate in the exercises, lending some credence to the rumor that the NFN intends to scrap the ship as soon as the new Millennium-class of smaller amphibious assault carriers enters active service. Once the flagship of the fleet, Pride and Profit today is considered by many analysts to no longer fit into the NFN's future force structure and mission.

Results: Miratia will contribute the recently blooded MAS Demon to the exercises. Our littoral ships are out of the question, however, as they're unseaworthy outside of the littoral zone.

International waters east of the Duchy of Langley
Slowly yet surely, the Langley Navy's Combined Expeditionary Fleet marshaled for its upcoming journey to the NFT for CATO naval exercises. The vanguard of this fleet was the newly commissioned carrier HMS Asuka Langley Soryu, which was being deployed despite not fielding a full air group (only twenty-four F-14Es, twenty-four A-7Ls, eight MH-60Rs, and four MH-60Ss, along with an entire complement of twenty-four TA-4s). Accompanying it were the amphibious transport docks Littner and Teppelin and the amphibious assault ship Ashford, all carrying an entire Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard. Their escorts were numerous, consisting of six Reimu Hakurei class frigates, six Lynette Bishop class guided missile frigates, and four Bright Noa class submarines; rounding out this fleet were two Yuuichi Aizawa class replenishment ships and the newly reactivated fast combat supply ships Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson.
Together, these ships represented the largest force ever gathered by the Langley Navy in its history, and they were expected to perform well alongside their CATO comrades.

Re: SDNWorld Redux: Story Thread the Third
"Misterian News Wire – News You Can Trust
Generals announce support for Misterian Socialist Party – MSP banned!
Last night at 2100, four Misterian generals announced their support of the far-left Misterian Socialist Party at a MSP rally in the city of Belapol, a stronghold of the Socialist movement. At this very rally, minutes after the generals announced their support to the cheering crowd, Vladislav Ivanov, leader of the MSP, declared that “government inaction and corruption has halted the progress of our nation into the future”, and called for “the Misterian people to rise up, and cast off the yoke of the oppressors”.
The Misterian government responded this morning by stripping the officers of their ranks, and deploying police to arrest Ivanov and other high-ranking members of the MSP. “This is absolutely unacceptable on all levels”, said Anya Empyreanskov, a spokesperson for the government, of Ivanov's declaration. “Actions such as these would be considered infantile in any other democratic nation, and we cannot accept them.”
The government has also banned the MSP and seized it's assests for “an indefinite period, subject to mandatory judicial review in one year's time”. This move has proven to be highly controversial, and over 10,000 people have begun a protest in front of the old Imperial Palace complex, current seat of the government, to decry what is seen as a return to monarchical repression.
“How far have we come, as a nation, if the leaders of our people are jailed for speaking their minds!? MSP is right for me!!” were the cries of Miroslava Petrov, a student of the famously radical University of Berezalug. Many of her peers seem to echo these views – it is estimated that anywhere from 50 to 80% of the protesters are Berezalug students or faculty.
The government's response to the protests seem to be confused at best. For nearly two hours, only the token Republican Palace security detachment kept the often unruly crowd from barging into the complex, but a large detachment of city police has since arrived and established a security perimeter around the walls of the compound, three miles outside of Empyrean City.
The police sent to detain Vladislav Ivanov discovered that he has fled from Belapol to an unknown location, presumably somewhere in the countryside. They are offering a $15,000,000 reward for his capture..."

Ivanov threw the newspaper down on the table, and reached for his glass of vodka. He took a sip, then slammed the glass down as well. Those who knew Ivanov said that he seemed to possess either a hatred of tables or things that lie upon them, the way he slammed and smacked.
He leaded back in his chair, gazing out of the window over the countryside. Misteria was a fairly flat country, but the few mountains and hills it had offered most beautiful views of the fields and forests during the day.
But at morning! Everywhere was blanketed with mist, and it seemed as if one was living in a dream, or in a cloud.
Ivanov stroked his beard, taking the latest events into account. His mind began to orchestrate, and devise.
The sun had begun its descent behind the horizon when Ivanov called for his lieutenant.
"Da, Comrade?"
"Comrade Ribonkov, I have set my mind. Send for all the leaders of our party, tell them to be here in no more than three days time."
"Is that all?"
"No... have them initiate Operation Red Heart."
"Red Heart?!"
"Yes, completely. Agitation, rabble-rousing - make sure the people know of us, and our oppression."
"Yes, yes."
"And then, when we are all here... we will make our strike."

Baernish News Service
Special Report
Fortress Baerne, Ministry of War - The Ministry announced this morning that elements of the BDN will take part in the upcoming CATO exercise off the NFT coast. HGS Isabella will be unable to participate, due to heavy damage sustained due to an attack by a Costa submarine, but the rest of 5th Squadron, as well as 4th and 6th Squadrons, will take part.
HGS Isabella
Navy officials told reporters that there is "little chance" of Isabella's being scrapped, as the damage sustained by the two heavy torpedoes to hit her, while severe, is certainly reparable. The ship is being towed into Fortress Baerne Naval Station as of this writing, after a harrowing six-hour battle with flooding in which the ship's crew and detachments from HGS Redress of Grievances and Right to Arm Bears managed to prevent the carrier from sinking, where it will be repaired by Naval engineers, possibly with assistance from Byzantine or UCSR personnel.
Total confirmed BDN representation in the CATO exercise will come to 1 Tarawa-class LHA, three Kirov-class cruisers, nine of the FTO-designed Standard-class missile destroyers, and four of the aging Perry-class frigates. Also expected to appear are some of the Kirov-class SSKs given to the Duchy by the UCSR recently, and at least some of the Vigilant-class SSGNs that form such a vital part of the Duchy's strategic defense.

News From the Vinish Press
Quite a Spectacle - The Shinra Republic Showing its True Colours in Vinish Squabble
In a deep retreat in Baerne the King of Vineyards met with the King Unifier of the Valley, and President Rufus Shinra of the Shinra Republic met alongside Baernish Diplomats to discuss a way to share power in the Commonwealth. I know this happened a few weeks ago, but now the truly important thing is happening. The official videos and records from the meetings are being released, as is President Shinra's Presence, on the same day as Kings Brandon and Jeffery are signing the Power Sharing Agreement that will officially create the Second Commonwealth of Vineyards.
First, the recordings of the meetings, these are very interesting, as President Shinra doesn't just show up and sit back, having gained prestige just being at the negotiations, instead he actively mediates the discussion, really capturing the mood that any bit of propaganda would try and express. President Shinra appeared to actually want to help the sides end the bloodshed, it was very inspiring.
Now, today's ceremony, the ceremony itself was fairly low key, the leaders of the Triumvirate met, took questions, made quips, same old same old. The air of celebration was definitely there, and the tone of the speeches was definitely unifying. Jeffery's pandering to the military Old Guard was predictable, and their consistent vote against his pet projects still sweet. All in all, what is to be expected of a combination of the Popular Front's press conferences during the 2000s, with Jeffery's conferences during his first reign.
Jack Abrashroom, 'The Best in the Commonwealth,' Hired to Lobby Parliament on Pro-MESS Armaments

Jack Abrashroom, Vinish Lobbyist, was recently hired by a group of 'concerned citizens' to lobby for the adoption of a MESS based plan of acquisition, now the the Triumvirate has declared the goals of the Military. Abrashroom is one of the best lobbyists in the Vineyards, and is constantly hired by both Gizmonic and the actual government for work convincing others. More: See JACK on Page 7
The Gizmonic Institute names Queen Marissa CEO along with Government Mandated Return of all Assets.
Prime Minister Mason asked and received Parliament Support for the Return of Gizmonic
The House of Lords has recently closed the greatest work of King Jeffery, his condemnation of the Military conglomerate the Gizmonic Institute, and its buildings, and the hoisting of his own personal company to the mantle of 'Arsenal of Monarchy.' They have done this by passing a mandate requested by Prime Minister Mason requring that the Company to be destroyed, and all former Assets of Gizmonic be returned to the company. This news comes alongside the news that Gizmonic has replaced their CEO, who had been fired for attempting to work out a deal with King Jeffery during the Commonwealth Standoff, with Queen Marissa. Re: SDNWorld Redux: Story Thread the Third
Río Muni, Bissauru
FILE PHOTO: President Hugo Shroomvez gives the thumbs-up to soldiers on parade in Bissauru's capital, early 2013
In the aftermath of the Pathogen War and the utter annihilation of Astaria in 2010, Colonel Hugo Shroomvez essentially found himself in the middle of southwestern Velaria with a legion of highly motivated freedom fighters, a whole lot of ex-CSR war materiel, and nothing better to do. After taking a bit of time to decide his next course of action, Colonel Shroomvez decided to set his sights on overthrowing the batshit insane President of Bissauru, Teodoro Macías; the ensuing coup d'etat was swift and bloody, with Colonel Shroomvez's own considerable forces utterly overwhelming the miniscule, poorly trained, poorly equipped, and generally unmotivated Bissauruan military and killing "President" Macías in a matter of days.
Now the de facto top dog in Bissauru, President Shroomvez embarked on a quest to overhaul the entire country, starting with its government; to that end, he drafted a new constitution and reestablished the legislature and judiciary. With the help of various Tonkinese firms and some covert financial and corporate aid from his backers in the UCSR, he rebuilt large portions of Bissauru's infrastructure and public utilities and launched massive education and healthcare campaigns; money earned from tapping into Bissauru's massive petroleum deposits and from draining ex-President Macías' massive offshore accounts in the Caymans helped considerably in these regards.
Reforming the Bissauruan military, however, was another issue entirely. As mentioned previously, Bissauru's standing military at the time of Shroomvez's coup was small, poorly trained and equipped, and generally unmotivated; its navy was practically nonexistent, the only combat-capable aircraft in its air force were a few L-29s and L-39s converted to light attack and a tiny handful of Su-25s, and the heaviest armored vehicles in its army were a few T-55s and AMX-30s. By contrast, Shroomvez commanded a truly formidable arsenal at the outset of his Velarian expedition, including T-80 MBTs, 2S19 Msta self-propelled howitzers, Mi-24 helicopter gunships, S-300 and Buk-M2 SAMs, and even a few members of the Su-27 family of fighters. Integrating all that hardware into Bissauru's force structure was easy, but actually maintaining them and training the Bissauruans how to utilize them to their fullest potential was the hard part; while UCSR-made hardware was renowned for its ruggedness and ease of maintenance, actual parts and trained technicians were hard to come by (especially in a Third World shithole like Bissauru), and unlike the Katangwans or the Minoyans, Shroomvez could not rely on open patronage from his foreign backers. While there were some bits of under-the-table help from the UCSR and the Old Dominion, the majority of Bissauruan military aid came from arms dealers (most notably the notorious Yuri Orlov), mercenaries, and other private parties; again, oil money and the funds that Macías had embezzled in years past helped considerably in paying for it all.
By 2015, Bissauru had made signficant progress under Hugo Shroomvez's relatively benevolent rule; literacy, life expectancy, and general standard of living were all up, infant mortality was down, and the military was steadily becoming more and more professional. From his seat of power in Río Muni, Shroomvez administered the everyday affairs of the executive as he watched his new domain expand and prosper. He was somewhat surprised when several Bissauruan Army and Air Force officers came barging into his office with some...interesting news.
"Mr. President, we've found aircraft wreckage in the northern jungles," one of the Air Force officers reported matter-of-factly. "We've only started examining it in detail, but it seems to match the description of that San Doradoan space plane that crashed a while back."
Shroomvez was uncharacteristically silent, if only for a few moments. "Did you say San Doradoan?" he finally spoke up. "It's about damn time somebody found that damn piece of junk, and I'm damn glad it was us who found it! The San Doradoans themselves have been dragging their feet actually searching for their precious space plane and its passengers, and that Shroomanian idiot Lord Moonbeam's been violating our airspace with that ridiculous airship of his, tearing up the jungles looking for his drug-addled daughter!" Shroomvez cleared his throat, then resumed speaking in a slightly softer tone. "Speaking of which, have you found any trace of the crew?"
"We haven't found them yet, but we're already expanding our search as we speak," an Army officer said.
"Notify the San Doradoan and Shroomanian governments," Shroomvez ordered. "Tell them that we've found the wreck of their wayward space plane and that we're currently looking for its crew members. Other than that Moonbeam woman, who was on it again?"
Another Air Force officer looked at some old newspaper clippings in a folder. "Sam Ralson, Vincent Blues, and Clinton Westwood, sir," he replied after a few seconds of searching.
"Yeah, those people," Shroomvez said. "If the Shroomanians and San Doradoans want to get involved, tell them to contact us."
RESULTS:
Hugo Shroomvez is back, he's now President of Bissauru, and his guys have found the wreckage of the Bellerophon Silver Streak. However, no trace of either Miranda Moonbeam, Sam Ralson, Vincent Blues, or Clinton Westwood has been found...yet.

Re: SDNWorld Redux: Story Thread the Third
Civil discontent reaches all time highs.
EMPYREAN CITY - The situation regarding the Misterian Socialist Party is rapidly being escalated to the level of a national crisis.
The protest outside the Republican Palace Complex in Empyrean City has swelled greatly over the past few days, and now nearly 200,000 citizens are camping outside of the RPC to show their discontent with the Misterian government's decision to ban the radical Misterian Socialist Party, after its leader, Vladislav Ivanov, called for “the Misterian people to rise up, and cast off the yoke of the oppressors.”
In addition to the protests at the RPC, Empyrean City is the scene of several smaller protests outside other government agencies.
Belapol and Svyatograd, considered strongholds of the leftist movement, are also the sites of great uprisings. Even the generally right-leaning Isle of Creus has reported scattered demonstrations in and around the Potemorsk Metropolitan Area.
MSP activists have begun to respond to the criminalization of their party, mostly through minor crimes such as graffiti and vandalism, though there have been reports of one or two attacks on police or security forces in Belapol, considered the center of the socialist movement outside of the Empyrean City Bay Area. No fatalities as a direct result of MSP political activism have been reported yet.
The Office of President Dmitri Malanov released a statement this afternoon that said he is “in negotiation with the Senate to resolve this issue of civil rights and radical politics.”
MNW was unable to contact a representative of the government for comment.
Meanwhile...
Dubozemsk, South Market District
Sergei Molotov threw his cigarette on the ground and crushed it with his boot. The chants of protests could be heard even here, in Empyrean City's slummy sister city, Dubozemsk, a hodgepodge of dirty concrete and rusting metal.
His cigarette finished, Sergei stepped back from the narrow balcony into his dingy flat, the only light in the room hanging over a cheap table at the room's center.
On that table lay several automatic rifles, boxes of ammunition, and a large cardboard box sealed with duct tape.
"Is this everything, then?" inquired a shadow sitting in one of the corners of the room, noticeable only by the gleaming circles of his spectacles.
"Yes, everything you requested. It was more difficult to acquire than usual, but Sergei Molotov always delivers."
"That he does." The shadow's voice was completely monotone and inscrutable.
"Now, I hate to mention it, but there is the small matter of payment..."
"Do not worry. Your payment has been taken care of."
"All of it?! So soon?"
"Well, not exactly. We have decided that, after so many successful arms deliveries, you deserve a bonus."
"Bonus? What?" Sergei sensed that there was something vaguely wrong here, but he couldn't put his finger on it...
"Yes. A bonus."
Across the narrow alleyway, there was a tremendous bang.
The bullet struck Sergei in the stomach, the shock of the impact knocking him off is feet and onto the table. The bespectacled man swiftly moved behind him and jammed a rag into his mouth with one hand. With the other, he jammed a pistol into Sergei's neck.
"It was a pleasure working with you, Comrade Molotov. A pleasure."

Coalition Air Offensive expands as II Corps disembarks at Baden
With an expanding security perimeter around Baden airfield, and engineers working nonstop to add to the facilities there, ODAAF UCAVs have begun to arrive in numbers to be staged out of the base. The MQ-9B, a UCAV that gained prominence during security operations over the Shepistani Quarantine Zone, has already gone to work plinking Sirnothi army assets.
The improving security in Baden comes as rumors leak out of a withdraw of Tian Xia aviation assets from Shepland to deal with the widening Crisis on the F-ing continent brought on by CATO aggression. War Ministry officials are downplaying any Tian Xia withdraw, noting that OICAS would have gone forward with the intervention with or without Tian Xia aid, and that the arrival of a Serenity Carrier Group would mitigate the withdraw of TXAF F-15SEs...[More]

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Imperial Chronicles
"What sort of nonsense is happening in Klavostan? What is this about Jannissaries and fighting battles with those who claim to protect the true Sultan?" demanded Saladin.
"Well, Master, it seems that there appears to be foreign influence in Klavostan of sorts. What should we do?"
"We wait and see. Get me a line to the Roman Emperor."

KEMPEITAI BASE 446
IMPERIAL JAPANISTAN
Jackson Blackpelt watched with disinterested eyes as the headless body slumped to the floor. The Kempeitai Major was equally impassive, sliding the sword through a clean white linen held by an orderly, who then deposited the linen on the body before retreating. Soon, men on punishment detail would drag the body away and wash the man's blood down the drains, but for now it sat as a poignant expression of what lay ahead for all of them who did not see the fairness of the deal.
"You have violated the waters of Imperial Japanistan," the Kempeitai Major stated, picking up where he'd left off before Blackpelt had reminded him that their ship had been in international waters when the Japanistani frigate had intercepted them. It was that rude interruption that had brought on the decapitation of one of Blackpelt's underlings. "Because of your intrusion, you will be given either punishment or reward to choose from."
"Punishment being..." Blackpelt said, looking at the body. It was not a question.
"Hai," the Major said, "Or reward. You work for us. We give you intelligence, funding, resources," the Major said. Jackson Blackpelt glanced over at his comrades, bound and gagged, across the room on low wooden benches. His woman, Kelah Bonesteel, beaten and bloody, tear streaks through blood on a pretty face that housed an ugly human being inside. It appears even she has met her brutal match, Blackpelt thought. Next to her sat thin prettyboy Lukin Grey, black-eyed and with a tooth dangling, blood-matted hair forming a crust over his other eye. Grey subtly nodded yes.
"What does 'working for you' entail, exactly?" Jackson Blackpelt asked.
"Japanistan is being surrounded," the Major spelled out, "the very reasons we went to war years ago have not changed. Only the names, of some characters, have changed. But the stage is the same."
"What stage might that be?" Blackpelt asked. The Major glared at him briefly. But it was easy to tell that Jackson Blackpelt was, under normal circumstances, the Major's equal. Jackson Blackpelt was a hard, and potentially cruel man. So the Major allowed him this semblance of peerage between them.
"The racist nationalist 'Slavic National Confederacy' has attempted to change their skin by allowing puppet states to participate in their goal for global domination," the Major said. "They have invited the hedonist Shroomanians, the capitalist San Doradans, and the mad dog Baernish to participate in their schemes. They need the San Doradans to finance their operations; the Baernish to serve as mercenary proxies; the Shroomanians to put on a buffoonish clown face to make them look harmless."
"And the MESS?" Blackpelt asked. "They won't let themselves be steamrolled."
"You fall for their lies, cleverly manipulated by their Canissian media," the Major said, "The MESS divides the world with the CATO imperalist states. You think this conflict between them is real? It is part of the script. Counter-intelligence; propaganda for the stupid masses. The same countries that fought together to stop us before are now forgetting us to concentrate on each other? We thought you were smarter than that, Jackson Blackpelt," the Major said, resting his hand on the hilt of his sword again.
"It is a convincing argument," Blackpelt said, looking the Major in the eye without flinching.
"As convincing as our argument, that you can thrive at what you do best," the Major offered, "By accepting our patronage?"
"Why do you need us?" Blackpelt asked, pacing back and forth before the headless corpse and looking at it as one might give curious, fleeting regard to an unusual formation of a spider's web. "You're Imperial Japanistan. What do you need with a bunch of revolutionaries without a revolution?"
"You can, and have, operated with great impunity outside the realm of the Throne. You are not expected to be agents of the Empire; you are not seen as such. Nor, as you pointed out, does your revolution currently have a cause to rally around."
The Major offered Jackson Blackpelt and his band something beyond money: relevancy. He gave it a moment, as if there was much to think about, and gave the answer that everyone in the room knew was coming.
"Very well," he said, "The Revolutionary United Front is at your service."
"Excellent," the Major said, "You will be of great assistance in creating instability... and sowing real discord among the MESS and CATO factions. While we wait for the right time to strike."

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

Sources indicate President to call for World Summit to settle sudden MESS-CATO tensions
ADAMS, CAPITAL DISTRICT - Further reports have come from the Presidential Mansion and the State Department that President Garrett and Secretary of State Parnell are preparing to invite key world leaders to a Cascadian-hosted summit due to the recent rise of MESS-CATO tensions.
These reports come with confirmation of Indhopali strikes against Klavostan and an incident where Costan troops loyal to the beleaguered government fired shots at a Shroomanian peacekeeping patrol at a control line checkpoint. Speaking on behalf of anonymity, a source in the State Department states that the Cascadian government is highly concerned at the risk of escalation, especially now that MESS and CATO member nations are more directly involved in the Costan situation.
Another item in a potential summit would be the plan announced during Prime Minister Shroom's state visit to Cascadia for an international world health organization to assist in identifying and treating plagues and other diseases across the world. President Garrett and Prime Minister Shroom have both issued public statements encouraging the creation of such an organization as vital to the prosperity of the world.

Gizmonic Starts on the Next Generation Ground Attack Fighter
The Gizmonic and San Doradan Rafales Dominate the Commonwealth Air Force
Since the Triumvirate Meetings regarding the expansion of the Armed Forces, parties from across the political spectrum have been working to lobby the Grand Assembly, now reorganized into a Grand House of Lords and a Grand House of Commons, to convince the legislature that their personal patrons are right for the arming of the country. The First winner in that is the Gizmonic Institute, who has received the first contract of the program, to begin work on a Ground Attack Fighter called Project GAF. More: See FIGHTER, Page 7

Controversy over tax increase divides parliament
For months now, various MPs have commented over government spending being too low for current needs. Untill today, however, it seems that His Majesty's Government was hesistant to propose a radical tax increase, for fear of antagonizing the Parliament and blocking its other initiatives.
In a groundbreaking speech today, King Paul I broke with this tradition. Here is an excerpt.
"Demand for social services ; Defence needs and police funding ; Energy independence programs - all are suffering because of inadequate funding. We are, at this time, in very real danger of destroying everything our ancestors have strived so hard to build.
Teachers have not received a raise, not even a cost-of-living pay increase, for more than a decade. There are very real problems with job retention in the police force. Quality of health care is declining, with longer lines, aging equipment and underpaid, overworked doctors. Our military equipment is quickly approaching obsolescence, which means we are not capable of meeting out obligations to CATO members as an equal partner.
The former royal administration has been cutting expenses and instituting a free-market policy for much of its tenure. However, it is my opinion that this was a major mistake, which led to the current situation - not yet critical, but still dangerous to the country as a whole.
Therefore, it is the Royal Court's opinion that an immediate, radical reform of government spending is required in the nearest possible fiscal year, in order to safeguard the Republic's vaunted freedoms, the quality of life enjoyed by its citizens, and security of our common borders."
The speech has split the Parliament: the Conservative Party is strictly opposed to any expansion of government power, and controls a full one-third of the seats. Several other parties are split on the issue, wary of angering their constituents.
Result: I realized my current budget expenditures were far too low for what I wanted to do ; I blame it on the former king being a free market lolbertarian whore
The fine quality of social services can be blamed on extraordinary people doing inhuman work to keep going what was built in better times...

Midgar, Shinra Republic
It had been a hectic few weeks with all of what had been going on, and President Shinra was getting a bit overwhelmed. Jesus Chrst, how did it all go off the rails so fast?
He was thinking, of course, about the MESS/CATO tensions that had so recently sprung up. It was aggravating, to say the least. Both sides were, he knew when he looked at it rationally, partly at fault. But that didn't stop either side from trying to put all of the blame on the other. And that wasn't helping calm things down at all.
As he was going over the latest reports from Sirnoth, his phone buzzed. It was his Chief of Staff. "Sir, King Paul is calling for you."
"Put him through, please," replied Rufus. King Paul was an old friend, and he suspected this call was about MESS/CATO relations. And, knowing Paul, he wasn't calling just to offer some platitudes. He had something real to say.
"Good afternoon, Your Majesty."
"Good afternoon, Mister President. How are things?"
"Could be better, Paul. I suspect the same is true for you."
"It could be indeed. That's what I'm calling about."
"Trying to pour some water over the fire that has become foreign policy lately?" asked Rufus.
"That's the plan," Paul said agreeably.
"Well, Cascadia's called for a summit. Wouldn't hurt for me to go."
"I plan on attending myself," answered Paul.
"You have no idea how tempted I am to tell PM Shroom to 'make other plans, I have to be somewhere' and then, when he heads off to Wilkonia or Tian Xia, fly into Cascadia myself," Rufus said, a trace of irritation in his voice.
"I know," said Paul, a little uncomfortable. "That wasn't right, bailing twice on you like that."
"The funny thing is," began Rufus, "His trip is supposed to be about reassuring us that CATO isn't some expansionist power. And he has to delay his stop here twice to go and expand CATO." By the tone of his voice, it was clear Rufus found no real humor in it at all.
"We have probably acted a little rashly. And I'm sure the timing of Baerne's intervention - Hell, invasion - into Costas didn't help. No matter what his intent was, and I do agree it was for the good, doing so when he did probably made it look bad."
"You have no idea," responded Rufus. "As I'm sure you have no doubt noticed, my neighbor to the north wasn't very happy about the whole thing."
"I did notice, in fact," Paul said dryly. "But that's why we need this summit. To clear the air between all of us."
"I agree. Well, I'll do what I can on my end. I can't gaurantee we'll have all leaders there, since it's rather short notice, but hopefully I can get everyone to send a representitive."
"And I'll see about getting CATO to go. We probably will manage to get leaders to attend," Paul said, with some amusement.
"Well, you people certainly are used to these last minute meetings, aren't you? We'll see what happens. Thanks for the call, my friend."
"No problem. Just because sometimes our nations may be at odds, doesn't mean we can't still be civil man to man."
"I agree." After a few more pleasentries about the family and personal life between both, the conversation was over. They had work to do.
