[HARM] Fahrenheit 9-11 and Bush.

Post by HARM »

I just saw Farenheit 9-11, and it made me angry.

Also, I was reading the works of Manhatten Project, and I was thinking that he had good points, but was unprepared. How old do you think he was?

well of course it did, IF you took everything Moore said as gospel. But Moore is well known to twist, exaggerate and spin "facts" unitl they meet his needs.

not to say some of the things he said were not true, just not most of them.

Just what you think about Farenheit 9-11. And, about Manhatten Project, since I couldn't ask about him anywhere else.

1. Descriptive titles are you friend...and a matter of board policy.

2. Caps Lock just piss of the admins and mods...and thus generally frowned upon.

Thus a slight title change.

Moore rubs me the wrong way. Its not that I don't agree with many of his views (although not all; like many democratic activists, he's too virtulently anti-military for one), but his style, seen in the documentary and in most of his public speeches, is simply too pompous and steeped in the more extreme stereotypically democratic viewpoints. His penchant for twisting the truth also turns me off, as I see far to much of that already in the administration he rails against.

Still, I did like Bowling of Columbine, far more than his later work.

Moore's particular talent as a filmmaker is to show us things that the mainstream media brushes under the carpet in its zeal to demonstrate its loyalty to king and country (and keep its red-state ratings up).

Where he tends to go wrong is when he himself is in the picture. He is pompous, overbearing, not very consistent, and prone to conspiracy-theorist mentality. His documentaries are strongest when you hear his documentary subjects speaking in their own words, and see the unusual and revealing footage that he tends to bring to the table.

In short, he needs to learn to get his face out of his own documentaries and let the camera do the talking. But for all those flaws, what he does is still worthwhile if only because the mainstream media in America is so disgustingly servile that we need someone like him.

I dont think anyone will say Michael Moore is some great film maker. But...never the less he does, as Darth Wong said, present a viable counterpoint to the ass-kissing media machine we usually get. Weather or not his propaganda is 'fair and balanced' is another issue, but one could easily point out his films are, IMHO, vastly less rediculous than one tenth of the insanity you get from Fox News, and usually far more focused than the scattershot aim of other 24 hour news networks.

One problem is that he is extremely devoted to his beliefs, and tends to have the problem of most people very devoted to anything, being that sometimes he gets so zealous he cant see that he's screaming in people's face about it. If you get on a soapbox, people will ignore you. If you just state your case, people will listen. He sometimes can forget this, but not as much as some would have you believe. He's not a raving lunatic like many of the Right try to paint him to be, though he does sometimes resort to some of the tactics they do, which depending on your point of view either makes him smart or just as bad. Personally i think if it's good for them i see no reason to tie the Left's hands, but of course your milage may vary.

Did anybody see "Out Foxed"? It has some good things on Fox news. It mentioned that Fox was made to be basicly the mouth of the Republicans, I don't know how true this is though.

Pretty true. After Bush's announcement of the L.A. terror attack plot in 2002, they featured the Century Tower's explosion in Independence Day. Don't you love truthful reporting?

Yes, hell yes it's true. In their regular reporting (not the editorials) they actually criticize the UN and other "liberal" institutions. Mind you, this is supposed to be their "objective" reporting. They don't even put up a facade of non-spin.

I'd say he is the same age as you. He also has the same writing style, and the same IP address. A remarkable coincindence, is it not?

Someone remind me. What *were* MPs 'points'? I recall him shitting a brick over a spelling mistake, refusing to back down and getting banned. It's not like he was some confronting political tornado.

I think the only confrontation he launched into was starting a F22 can take out a TIE thread.

Anyone who thinks that is a "good point" or that MP was mocked and banned because he was "unprepared" is a fucking idiot.
