PurpleTattoo tries too hard

Post by PurpleTattoo »

Really, considering the amount of crazy shit that happens in Trek, just about anything is possible. It's not just one episode - strange happens are regular. The Star Wars universe seems to be far more predictable (even if you include the EU).

Who knows. Maybe Q would intervene. Maybe some random technobabble solution would appear, or other being of godlike power would get involved.

Yes, I'm rather proud that. Thank you.

Call me a Trekkie all you want, but I prefer Wars. I do like Trek, though.

Of course the Empire should win, but in the hands of Trek writers, for example, anything could happen.

So youre saying that Trek can win if it gets the benefit of a plot device

No one can dare rely on the Deus ex machina incarnate except for Megas. .
Still at least he managed to think of a viable reason for trek to win

I'm not saying it would happen in fair fight, folks. Y'all are defensive as hell. WTF, seriously? Or are y'all just bashing me for kicks now? Intectually dishonest, but funny.

Anyone who has seen Trek knows bullshit can happen. All that is a real, canon part of the Trek universe. Of course I should note that it'd probably be just as like for something to come up and make it HARDER for the Federation to win...

No, you're being bashed for being a fucking liar. First you claim that Ewok arrows shouldn't even kill an unarmoured man, then you claim that a real soldier will keep fighting even after being seriously wounded, then you claim that an animal the size of an Ewok should be no problem in hand to hand combat for a human even though chimps that size would kill you, all without ever conceding any of these bullshit claims despite multiple disproofs. And now you're resorting to "if Trek writers wrote a versus comparison they would not let Trek lose", which is a retarded argument because you could say the same thing about Trek versus God or anyone else.

"Bullshit can happen" doesn't work in a vs. debate for the same reason that, for instance, in a vs. debate between Middle Earth orcs and the US army we can't say "well the orcs have Sarumon and there's no telling what his magical powers could do!" Versus debating relies on both sides having quantified abilities.

Well, to play devil's advocate there is -some- content, it's not all swearing and insults. He's noting that PurpleTatoo has already caused enough trouble to merit a HOS trip, and advising him against continuing this line of "debate" at this message board, because, as we all know, it won't fly.

You're being far too generous. There's one clause where he points out PT is in the HOS, and the rest is throwing around flames. It's only "advice" if you're willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, and I'm not.

Ewok arrow penetration on cloth and wood suggests that no, they wouldn't kill an unarmoured man, and yes, people do keep fighting while seriously wounded. Neither of those were disproven. And Ewoks are not chimps. But take to the other thread, Mr. Wong.

You're the one who claimed people keep on fighting the movies, even though that's quite clearly false.
And now you're resorting to "if Trek writers wrote a versus comparison they would not let Trek lose", which is a retarded argument because you could say the same thing about Trek versus God or anyone else.
I'm not saying Trek would win - get over yourself and stop being so defensive. I'm just pointing pointing out how common weirdness is in Trek. It happens every few episodes at the least. It's really not at the same in other series or in the Wars universe. Can it be totally ignored when considering the Trek universe? It's a wildcard factor, and wildcards tend to favor the underdog.

The idea the a war could take place between the Empire and the Federation and no Trek-style weirdness ensue strikes me as very unlikely.

But of course it doesn't really tilt the balance. Interesting to consider, though.

Fuck you you miserific little shit-guzzler. It has been shown time and again that Ewok strength outweighs that of average humans(Logs in trees, R2D2, large rocks, carrying humans). The chimpanzee information was delved into to show that despite your cretinous whining, it is impossible for a human of the highest caliber to match a chimp, establishing precedent for small animals that could make you their bitch one-handed. Much like it is impossible for you to achieve the brains of a chimp of the lowest caliber, or the intellectual honesty of a career politician.

This recap has been brought to you by Captain Obvious Productions. If something subtle like thirty foot flaming words lighting the imbecile in question on fire doesn't get the message across, rest assured, we will not rest untill we've divested the targetted cretin of all worldly possessions, and redistributed his organs to recipients more worthy of continued existence.

I certainly agree that chimp strength on average is higher than human strength, but I think information on the extremes of chimp strength is lacking. That site with the dynamometer info says as much:
It's a lot easier to get a chimp in roller skates than it is to get him to pump iron--hence, most of the data on chimp strength is anecdotal and decidedly unscientific.
1,260 lbs is sure a big number, but do we know what strong humans could do on the same decive? If you know of data that prove that a pull close to 1,260 lbs (on the same instrument) can't be done, then I'll gladly concede the point. I may well be wrong - chimps could be even stronger than I think. But we don't have the data to prove it either way. We do know they are quite strong, though.

Ewok strength may be higher than human strength on average, but is it high enough to negate the advantage of ST armour? And high strength alone doesn't mean the ability to put it to good use in close combat.

Christ, now he's down to begging the question. Course, that's what he was doing before too, with his 'maybe something magic would happen to defeat the Empire, oh, maybe it'd hurt the Federation too' pie-in-the-sky speculation.

Yes. Reality is unpredictable. In many cases the needed data aren't available. This true for any vs. debate, and, in my opinion, especially true with Trek, given how common strange happenings are.

It's still no reason to give the Federation odds against the Empire.

California chimp attack leaves man in critical condition
Last Updated Fri, 04 Mar 2005 14:04:36 EST
CBC News

CALIENTE, CALIF. - Two chimpanzees broke free from their cage at a California animal sanctuary Thursday, chewing off most of a 62-year-old man's face and biting his wife.

The couple, St. James and LaDonna Davis, had been visiting their former pet chimp Moe at the Animal Haven Ranch. Moe had been removed from their Los Angeles home in 1999 for aggressive behaviour.

The couple, who had brought a birthday cake to Moe, were standing outside his cage when two other chimps in an adjoining cage, Buddy and Ollie, attacked.

Sanctuary officials say they don't know how Buddy and Ollie escaped from their cage.

Hospital officials say St. James Davis is in critical condition with massive injuries to his face, arm and leg. His testicles and a foot were severed and he will require extensive surgery to re-attach his nose.

His wife, LaDonna, was bitten on the hand while trying to save her husband.

The son-in-law of the sanctuary owner shot and killed Buddy and Ollie.

Two other female chimps in the cage with them also escaped, but were captured five hours later and returned to the enclosure.
This shows exactly what something like a chimp can do to someone when enraged. But i suppose this is based off of conjecture as well, isn't it?

I'm sure you'll flame me for this, but that doesn't show chimp super strength. A human with only moderate strength could easily do the same (especially to a 60+ year old man). But the chimp probably wasn't going for a quick kill either.

It isn't anything I'd want to deal with, though. I would not fuck with a chimp.

That's the dumbest comment I've read in this thread. I know it's not yours, but you realize that when a chimp can easily rip apart full grown human males then it becomes scientific.
