I wouldn't bet on anything but a shotgun; dogs are surprisingly resistant to small-caliber gunfire.

Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Actually, I'm sort of annoyed that the useful post I made, on how to actually DEAL with a dog if your unarmed, recieved no attention while mr macho-shithead did. Guess Quiznos, with their stupid fucking commercial is right, the best way to grab attention is to be annoying and stupid.

depends what kind of ammo (FMJ or JHP). Even 9mm JHP lacks "knockdown" power, but I really can't see a dog taking more than two .45 ACP Hydroshock rounds (at most) to bring down...

There was a mounted cop some years ago who shot and killed a pitbull by emptying his revolver into it, but not before it somehow managed to gravely wound his horse. Too bad he didn't have Imperium by his side

Considering how he kept addressing me by first name even though we have had almost no interaction on this board before today, I'd strongly suspect that it's somebody who was familiar with me from some other context and had a prior axe to grind, not that I'm going to lose any sleep over it.

Do we know what caliber and ammo type he was using? (I used to have a quote in my sig from a Israeli soldier who had to put 7 rounds into a Syrian soldier with his Uzi to take him down. Naturally, this soldier would have been using FMJ ammo).

I'd guess a .45, personally.

.45 from a revolver? It's not unheard, but less than common. I'd guess .38

I'm leaning to that opinion as well, especially since this was a the sidearm of a law-enforcement officer. The .38 Special cartridge (especially the FMJ version) is notoriously lacking in stopping power. During the Moro rebellions in the Philippines about a century ago, there were several occasions where a US officer was hacked to death after emptying his (.38) service revolver into a machette-weilding rebel.

It was a printed newspaper article, and I don't recall that they ever mentioned the calibre of weapon, although I agree that .38 seems most likely. They went into detail about the horse's injuries too, although I don't remember those details; I only remember the part about how he had to empty his revolver into the dog and it still managed to seriously injure the horse.

A shotgun would also be easier to aim at a fast moving dog than a revolver. After all shotgun pellets have an area affect.

Do you ever bother reading anything?

No fucking duh it'd be easier to aim, but Striderteen clearly said:
dogs are surprisingly resistant to small-caliber gunfire.
[/quote]

A few moments of deep thought and logistics reveal that shotgun pellets are pretty far on the list of small-caliber projectiles, and clearly have little stopping power, which was the point of that statement.

Assuming of course that the sentence about small-caliber fire was to note that a shotgun would have less stopping power, despite being easier to aim (which was my first impression, since it sound like a con to conflict with the mentioned pro). Either way, a repetitive sound bite about easiness of aiming neither addresses stopping power nor adds to the statement about easiness of aiming already made.

As I said, he's obviously some insolent little twerp who kicked his girlfriend's dog and then thought it made him a Big Man. And when he could see that he was getting his ass kicked in this debate, he started looking for a way to extricate himself without conceding the point, so he decided to goad me into banning him. No doubt he believes it was remarkably clever and that people will read the thread and be in awe of his shining "moral victory"

Honestly I believe it would depend on two variables, mainly. Size and general strength/speed/whatnot are important, but I think most important is the sanity levels of the human and dog involved.

The reason attack dogs are so vicious is because they're pretty much trained to do insane things (kind of like suicide bombers), they're conditioned to have no concern over their physical well being, or the risks to their bodies when they attack.

The reason most humans will flee from an attack is because they feel that the risk of physical harm is much greater if they stay and try to defend themselves. A (normal/sane) dog sees a retreating target as less potentially harmful, and thus, gives chase.

Now, if a human, when confronted with a dog running at him/her teeth bared, goes berserk and charges into battle, fists flying, legs kicking, teeth biting (humans can bite pretty damn hard), the situation for the dog changes. Suddenly, if it's 'normal', it realizes that there's a good chance that it's not going to come out of this fight in one piece. Since the dog is, at the moment, the saner of the two combatants, it will retreat.

Of course, for attack dogs this theory completely collapses as they have been trained to act in an irrational (for dogs) manner. They don't care about physical harm, and thus, just acting insane and attacking it will only speed your own death.

That's what's so scary about breeds like pitbulls. The pitbull who attacked the mounted police officer continued to attack even after it had been shot several times.

Most likely from some bitch's cunt .

Seriously, he is probably someone who is already on the Shit List, as Wong said Imperium² referred him by his first name, even though Imperium had not interacted much with Wong during the former's short time on the board.
Darth Wong wrote:That's what's so scary about breeds like pitbulls. The pitbull who attacked the mounted police officer continued to attack even after it had been shot several times.
Personally, I think every male pitbull should be castrated so the entire breed will die off. Pitbulls are too dangerous and tempermental, which makes them unsuitable even as gaurd or attack dogs (they could turn on their handlers, or kill intruders when you merely want the dog to hold them in place so the dog's handler can apprehend them). They can be playful and normal one minute, and turn into viscious killers the next for no apparent reason...

Uts-- perhaps Striderteen was thinking a shotgun loaded with slug rounds? When you fire those, you're basically shooting a low-powered elephant gun-- a 12-gauge is about equivalent to .65 caliber! Those would louse up any dog's day, let alone an attack dog... of course, the trick is to shoot it before it gets too close to you...
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
