Some 'My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic' fans are actually edgelords who think the human race should be exterminated so a superior race, the ponies, could take over Earth.

Yes, those exist. Read Stories from the human concentration camp, by GrayOnBlue, which has the following sentences in its first chapter:
Honey Bun [a pony, warden of the titular concentration camp] smiled, when she remembered the last experiment [on humans], when they used a special, human-made recipe of cooking. Though the latter meant it for fish, ponies optimized it for humans as well. And managed to create a great cuisine masterpiece from a human infant, that was fried alive and - the most important thing - was still alive when they served the dinner for his parents with him as the pièce de résistance.
As for the author, GrayOnBlue's blog confirms the author actually hates the human race.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Ah yes, the teen/college-age misanthrope with more edges than bismuth. Who hate humanity because "people suck"... and then proceed to write stories about absolute monsters worse than the fucking Nazis as the heroes. They seem perpetually confused by that whistling sound they keep hearing, but never look up in time to see the irony fly overhead.

I'm not sure what it is, but MLP seems to really appeal to those sorts for some reason. Maybe they're so fragile emotionally they need some sort of cutesy, childlike utopia to retreat into.

What were they into before MLP came along? Fanfic wise, that is.

Obviously the Draka, from S. M. Stirling's stories.

Yes, some people write fanfics to justify the Draka attitude towards serfs and non-Draka races. Here's one example.

Ok, so I just read the first few paragraphs, and we apparently have a crossover of Draka, Gor, and Sailor Moon.

Gor fanfic is just weird regardless, but adding the other two...

The NCIS fanfic "Devastation"

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12488258/1/Devastation

It is noted for the characters being totally OOC.

I invite you to reflect on the fact that they have, at least theoretically, significantly tightened up their rules since the early days.

And all of it so poorly written that it makes Repercussions of Evil, the infamously bad Doom fanfic, look like Shakespeare.

During the Wild West days of the internet circa the mid-90's, literally anything went, and people were much more anonymous (both due to the majority of people lacking the technical ability to find out who you were and because finding fanfic websites was much more difficult back then) and thus felt more comfortable sharing things that were either disturbing or just plain awful in every sense of the term.

Darth Lucifer wrote: 2017-10-20 10:06pm In my experience, the play-by-forum RPG stuff produced some of the wanktastic Mary Sues and bad writing, far worse than any fanfic I've ever laid eyes on. Here's a sample I have archived on my PC because I saved it specifically for threads like this one.
Name: Xeniph T'Pree
Ship: U.S.S Enterprise
Rank/Position: Currently activated to the rank of commander, is sort of a "maid of all work" aboard the Enterprise. You name it, she does it.
Species: It's Complicated.
Age: Older than she'd like to admit, somewhere around 500...appears 15 naturally.
Personality: Cares very deeply about people, loves life, is fairly optimistic.
Bio: Xen was born the result of an expirement by a few early Federation scientists. Their question was essentially this: "If we bred every known species, what would we get?" The experiment took years, and there is some suspicion that the Q took an interest in the project as well, because shuttles would disappear and then show up years later with the occupant impregnated by an unknown species. As a result of this exotic combination, Xen has many powers bringing her to be even more powerful than a Q. When Xen was born, she was tested for the first 5 years of her life to see what she could do. During this time, she went through the Academy virtually, and through virtual ship experience gained the rank of Admiral. Currently, however, she only has activated up to the rank of Commander, because she prefers serving under others. When she was 5, the scientists-that-be decided that she was too dangerous to have around. Despite the fact that she had made command level decisions with great dexterity, they still considered her capacity at the level of a child, and if the enemies were to kidnap her and convince her that they were the 'good guys...' they would be in for a lot of hurt. To resolve this, they decided to send her to an asteroid where she would remain until the age of 18. At that time, she would be allowed to come back to the Federation.

Because she is more powerful, however, a Q took this opportunity to try to destroy her (not the Q, most of the Continuum remain largely unaware of her existence). The result was that the shuttle was catapulted backwards in time, and Xen lost her memory of everything before. She grew up on earth, always knowing she was different but never knowing why, until she was approximately 200 or so. She named herself "Xeniph" because of the "X" tattoo that rests between her neck and shoulder (she was called "Experiment X" by the scientists). Then the first Enterprise discovered her, and brought her back. She discovered who she was from hidden Starfleet records Spock found for her. Since she has been found to be logical much of the time, and she is not wholly Vulcan, she obtained permission from the Vulcan high council to behave "as her uniqueness dictates," but to observe restraint around other Vulcans. This, she quite happily does.

As of the past few years, she has been traveling around helping others. She assigned herself to the Enterprise [D] after all this time, and is excited to begin her work there.

Appearance: She has a prehensile tail, too, that looks like a cat's and is the same colour as her hair.
Other: Powers: Telekinesis, regeneration, extremely long life, manipulating energy fields, "Time-skipping"
:P  :wanker:
This is essentially Trance Gemini. As played by a ham-fisted clod.

To allow more sadomasochistic slash, and sparkly fairy vampire sex in, apparently.

Not to mention even more fic of Inuyahsa having wolf sex with Kahome...

Yeah.

I mean, even if you like porn, its going to be frustrating if it seems like you can't find anything else. I personally like reading a good world-building or political or well-constructed alt. timeline fic. Why can't I have more of that?

In fact, its gotten to the point where I generally regard shipping, especially non-canon shipping, and quality fics as almost mutually incompatible. Even a potentially good premise tends to get fucked when you bring shipping into it, because the author almost invariably starts thinking with their dick (or whatever), and twisting the story to prop up the ship.

Nothing wrong with shipping, really, assuming the author's thinking with the right head, when he ships, the ship makes sense within the series canon, has neither character acting OOC, and doesn't go haring off into sadomasochistic abuse that makes fans of the Story of O physically ill.

In my experience, that's like saying "A dictator's fine if they're wise, competent, benevolent, and beloved by their people." In other words, the odds of it actually happening are pretty damn low.

Though I am a little more tolerant of ships with a canon basis, usually.

Eh, pretty low. Nil, if you consider Supernatural fic.

Re: "shipping" - I tend to agree with The Romulan Republic and U.P. Cinnabar both; I prefer canon or ships that are not too far fetched and appropriate to the setting.

If you're going to have a big bad ship, I'd like to see it fail or be inadequate to the mission somehow like in ST:INS, when Enterprise couldn't fly well in the Briar Patch. Or like in Aliens, the Colonial Marines thought they were ready and had all the baddest shit, then they got curbstomped. And Snike Plissken, in both "Escape" movies, went in with all this cool gear and then subsequently lost or damaged most of it. Crisis and danger and how it's dealt with makes for way better storytelling than being all uber.

While i'm mini-ranting about ships, in that ST:VOY episode, "Equinox" it would have been much cooler to see Janeway with the inferior ship and having to answer to Captain Ransom. I'm glad Ron Moore went this way with Galactica and Pegasus in nBSG.
