I seriously doubt 'See that bright star right there? Well if you look to the left of it with a really powerful telescope' is enough information for the kid to figure out where Sol is
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

For alien powers in prior shows, Data sometimes got to use strength, sometimes reflexes and speed, and sometimes durability and so on. Spock had minor alien powers, not so much just his strength, but nerve pinch and mind meld.

Of course, the biggest crewmember alien power in Star Trek is Odo and his shapeshifting, which was both major and used all the time, kinda like Alara.

Futurama's commentary noted with Kif that him being an alien allowed them to throw in a super power when the plot required (in his case, climbing on walls/ceilings).
Troy mind reading, well emotion reading only half be betazed power. Like literally every episode.
Having a super human strong Alien on board is kind of becoming a thing, I sense a pattern.

I wish they could improve upon Isaac. He looks like some old 50's robot. I don't expect him to look or try to be human but at least look like a member from an advanced AI civilization not one that could easily be put in a Bela Lugosi movie.

I find his look quite charming in a quaint way. I think the design is somewhat deliberate to go with the tongue-in-cheek feel of the show.
Yeah, I've always taken the subtext of the Birther movement to be, "The rules don't count here! This is different! HE'S BLACK! BLACK, I SAY! ARE YOU ALL BLIND!?

Finally had a chance to give EP1 a shot. This is a pretty good Star Trek show, just with more snark. Something in between stick-in-the-mud early TNG seasons and GalaxyQuest. Essentially, this is what happens when you just let your actors have fun.
How I envy you getting to have the experience of watching the 2nd and 3rd episodes! I thought the same thing about it when I saw the first show...
And then I saw the second and though: This is getting way better... And then I saw the third, and was like: WTF??? This show is GOOD!!!

So the latest episode is out and over now.
Yet again, what is wrong with these people? The navigator suddenly starts dry humping that statue and guess what cultural stigma this time.
The whole time I'm like what in ze hell ! Can they find any one who will take their jobs seriously? I mean what the hell!

He didn't know the laws, was just being casual in a casual setting with a friend

Had he known social misconduct was a capital offense he'd no doubt be more reserved. They all assumed laws were identical to 21st century western culture,

On that aspect, if they exuded "military" discipline the whole time, they'd draw unwanted attention...friends bantering and teasing each other shouldn't...wrong planet

Alara had her own problems...choice of headwear, luckily Claire was able to defuse that.

It had it's moment's . and nice to see dealing with other species' looks differently instead of the
"massive surgery with no side effects " excuse. "Alara, do something about that nose...." Next we see her, the solution? A band-aid.... :D
"Of course, what would really happen is that in Game 7, with the Red Sox winning 20-0 in the 9th inning, with two outs and two strikes on the last Cubs batter, a previously unseen meteor would strike the earth, instantly and forever wiping out all life on the planet, and forever denying the Red Sox a World Series victory..."

Who suddenly jumps up and starts dry humping a statue? And In some one else's country? When you're supposed to keep a low profile I would think dry humping a statue in a public space would be the opposite of that.
If you saw the trailer for the next episode, Seth does say some thing along the lines, "Jesus, we need better people" the massive face palm. Maybe going to fix that.

Just started "Majority Rule" and I can't help but think of Black Mirror S3E1 Nosedive.
Rule #1: Believe the autocrat. He means what he says.
Rule #2: Do not be taken in by small signs of normality.
Rule #3: Institutions will not save you.
Rule #4: Be outraged.
Rule #5: Don’t make compromises.

Which in itself reminded me of an episode of 'Community'.

It's a fairly common idea at present.

This isn't directly to do with the show, but I'm on an Orville fan page on Facebook, and holy fuck, there are people actually applauding the alien society on the grounds that people who disrespect statues actually deserve to be lobotomized. :wtf: I suppose they're unwittingly illustrating the episode's point.

That just underlines just how far gone they are. They cannot grasp, that what is depicted here, is literally Mob Rule

And yet it seems not far from what we currently have with social media organizing protests and boycotts based on "uggg I just saw that thing you did and it didn't kiss my ass to my liking so lets boycott them" crap.
Don't get me wrong, boycotts and protests have their place but not for little petty shit.

No one forces you onto Facebook though.

Honestly, strong theme tied together with weak "starters."

1. We've been studying their clothes and tech, but entire basis for their social structure catches us by surprise?

2. I'm on an alien world. Better hump this statue. Seriously, just have him accidently bump into a popular pop star doing a reality show or something and just say "my bad." I'm not going to justify the reaction, but statues exist for a fucking reason. It doesn't take an anthropologist to think it is an extremely bad idea to go around humping them.

3. I can hack their interwebs with zero issue, but I wont use this to image search for the missing researchers beforehand, thus ending the plot in 5 minutes.
