My opinions.

Giant Robo: Okay, but a little dry and staid.

Escaflowne: Overwrought as hell.

Big O: Rousing song, excellent production values, my winner of the bunch.

Gunbuster: Unremarkable.

Gurren Lagaan: My runner-up, a solid number. It takes a little while to get rolling though, and doesn't stick with me quite the way the Big O song does.

Megas XLR: Unremarkable melody, no orchestra, mediocre generic production value.

Big O really had a standout soundtrack from start to finish.

Megas XLR: Just for the sake of being cool, knowing it and not being shamed to rub it in your face. The whole intro really shows you what the show is about. It really just takes you by your neck and shouts in your face: Listen up kid. I know what you are here for. You are here to watch a giant robot smash stuff! It just strikes a deep chord within people.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.

You win. There, I have said it.

Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

You can't discuss giant robot music without a TROMBE OVERRIDE!

Also if it's one song from TTGL it's Libera Me From Hell.. King Kittan is still here!

Escaflowne by a large margin for me. The others aren't bad, but Escaflowne is the only one that strikes a chord.

Main themes are a bit on the cheating side, though, right?
robot theme:
Xenogears.
Xenogears.
Xenogears.
Xenogears.
Oh, Xenogears.

Gasaraki's main theme (Message #9) was rather good, regardless of the quality of the anime. But that's a main theme rather than an awesome robot song.

Have to say, given this site's usual lean toward Anime, rather surprised, and delighted, to see the MEGAS Theme pull ahead. Personally I don't know that it stands up to the others in terms of battle music, but it far and away encapsulates the feel of any giant robot show.

Because we do ALL love giant Robots :D

Of the options presented, I went with "Dance of Curse". I don't think it's the best epic choral track in Escaflowne, though it may indeed be the most kick-ass. Other stand-outs like "Blaze" and "Epistle" have as much dramatic weight, but not as much energy.

Anyway, I think you may have neglected something with pretty exemplary music: Evangelion. "The Beast II" is the one everyone remembers, though I personally have always been rather fond of "Decisive Battle" and its variants (even if it is a rip-off of a James Bond tune).

The Gunbuster March and Sure Promise are the winners of that last.
