Sci-fi commanders you want to serve under
Which sci-fi commanders you want and love to serve under? A commander which would not screw up upside down just because he enjoyed it?
Commander Adama (new and old) as well as commander cain seem to be nice to serve under. Given the respect they recieve from their crew, you can at the least know they treat their men nicely.

Obi-Wan Kenobi would be cool, as would Adama. Also As long as I don't wear a red shirt Kirk might be fun (With the overlapping character shields)
Cain? "Kill" the civilians Cain? I allow organized chain gang-rapes Cain? nBSG Admiral Cain?commander cain seem to be nice to serve under.

Maybe he ment OBSG cain, who, while borderline crazy, was a military genius, who kept his people alive for years after a major colonial military defeat.DEATH wrote:Zed Snardbody wrote: Cain? "Kill" the civilians Cain? I allow organized chain gang-rapes Cain? nBSG Admiral Cain?
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks
Bill Adama would be at the top of my list.
I'd say Jack O'Neill, but only if I was in SG-1 and with the required character shield. I'd dread being in SG-13 going on a mission with him.
Taking a step outside of military sci-fi, Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly.
I do indeed think the previous poster meant oBSG Cain, who from what I understand was modeled after Gen. Patton.

Mal Reynolds from Firefly, though not a military commander per se, was an officer from the Independent Movement and so he should count.
That being said, he's my choice. f i'm going to follow someone else's orders, i want to know they genuinely give a damn about me, and regardless of anything else (like being fairly reckless and a little eccentric) he certainly did care about his crew.

Bill Adama, though I'd have to put up with Colonel Tigh as well.

Hmm, well i wasnt aware there was a difference, my mistake.Stofsk wrote:No he wasn't. He was a Sergeant of a platoon. Not an officer.18-Till-I-Die wrote:Mal Reynolds from Firefly, though not a military commander per se, was an officer from the Independent Movement and so he should count.
Still the point stands...if you want a leader who isnt insane, not driven by egotism, and actually cares about his crew (perhaps even above his own safety) then the field narrows considerably. And of that group, Reynolds is one of the better (i.e safer) ones.
Sheridan from B5 and Kirk from Trek TOS also falls in this group. And Gaunt from 40k...but the latter lives in a universe where massive, WWII style planetary wars happen on a daily basis so, not a great choice.

Vanessa Murakuma, from In Death Ground. The woman who, with nothing heavier than a few battlecruisers, held off a fleet built around somelike like eighty superdreadnoughts, in a five day long running battle, armed with only superior missile range and better linked point-defense. Final kill ratio was somelike like....hell, 40-50 superdreadnoughts destroyed, never mind the escorts, and most of her fleet crippled, but very few losses. Yep, I'll take a piece of that action.

Gilad Pellaeon, after his rise to power in the Imperial Remnant. Certainly, he's not as talented as Thrawn, but I agree with his tactics and motives more, and his martial and leadership skills mature a great deal from his days in the regular Imperial Starfleet. Besides, who wouldn't want to serve under a man who can effectively command a defense fleet while he's barely alive in a bacta tank, and finish off with an inspiring speech and snappy one-liner to boot?
Adama makes the list as well, but only after he's booted Tigh. The good Colonel has prove himself quite adept at getting the men under his command in very bad situations, and reducing moral as well.

"The rest of the poem plays upon that pun. On the contrary, says Catullus, although my verses are soft (molliculi ac parum pudici in line 8, reversing the play on words), they can arouse even limp old men. Commander Adama, Malcolm Reynolds, and Captain Picard seem like the best choices so far, just for the ability to survive. And the fact that they're not total dicks.
I also nominate Dot Matrix, from ReBoot. I mean sure, she's a little bit of a basket case, but she's really good at fighting guerilla wars against superior enemies and cares about her men, er, sprites.

As others have said Bill "Husker" Adama, I'd follow him to hell and back. "I'm getting my men." Says it all.
I'd follow Lee Adama as well.
Malcom Reynolds, he will go above and beyond for his crew.
Captain Picard, he cares about his crew's well being, plus if you become a department head he'll do anything for you.
Captain Keyes of the UNSC, brilliant tactician and a great leader.

Pallaeon seems to be a good choice. The fact he's survived that long seems to indicate there's something going for him.
