I wonder why they made such a big deal of authorising the use of Reaction weapons against the Vajra. They didn't seem to have a problem tossing them at the Zentradi almost as soon as they saw them at the beginning of Macross.

Also, that one Diamond Squad pilot was badass. I hope he shows up again.

Yeah, I can't fathom why they were fighting the Vajra with kid gloves either. But holy hell, that was awesome.

Ther reason why is that it is really cool to get permission to use your bombs. Because it makes your bombs look like doomsday in a can.

Oh everything is cooler in Star Wars, go to bed old man!

Gigil blew up a planet in Macross 7. Although it would be more accurate to say that he rocked it so hard that the planet couldn't take in anymore.

Pretty much the first thing we ever see Bodolza do is order a planet rendered to a grey, airless rock just to prove a point. He was seriously threatening to do the same to earth if Hikaru and Misa didn't lock lips.

i'm more confused about them requiring presidential authorization to use what seems to be anti-ship nukes.

That's would be like a naval commander during WWII having to get FDR on the phone every time he wanted to launch his torpedo bombers

No, it would be like a naval commander during WWII getting permission to use his anti-ship nukes. Reaction weapons aren't conventional ordnance.

And right after the "No, we mustn't kill the stupid dinosaurs!" episode, too. Sucks to that!

Well, as far as recaps go, episode fifteen was pretty good. Richard Bilrer turns out to be one of those rich guys with crazy indulgences. The plot thickened without actually revealing anything.

Zounds, a clip show that didn't suck! Though to be fair, it wasn't really a conventional clip show (hence it not sucking). It had a favorable signal-to-noise ratio and the parts that were rehashed were done in a way that added new stuff and held my interest. I especially liked the battle montage when they were talking about Sheryl.

The competitive signing was adorable. I'm warming up to Sheryl now that it's clear her bitchiness is a facade.

And Engrish strikes again! Either that or Ranka's a cow.

That sing-off was great, wasn't it? I really felt my sympathies falling with Sheryl too; the love triangle is sure spicing up! Surgical gown wardrobe malfunctions FTW!

"Dairy life"? I thought she was a singer, not a milkman!

The best part o the sing-off was Alto's "Oh god, what the fuck is going on" expression.

Another me too for the awesome singing duel. It's pretty clear neither Ranka or Sheryl wants to share, and neither of them thinks letting him get away is an option, so Alto really is going to have to make his mind up. Or clone himself, Grace style...

I'm pretty sure she's not an alien. There was a guy in the original series on the crew of the SDF-1 with similar eyes; I think hers are just a callback to that.

I can't remember if he ever actually had a name, come to think of it. Apparently he had a big role in the Robotech novels, something to do with being the first person on-board the ASS-1 to touch the fold drive, but all I can recall he did in Macross was figure out the pinpoint barrier thingy.

He was Dr. Lang in Robotech, can't recall the character's name in Macross.

He was just "Doctor" in Macross. He's one of those throw-away characters who has a weird look and somehow carries a legacy. Much like Green Biker Dude from the opening of Mega Man X2. Or even Nene or Raramaria from Frontier.

Well at least Raramaria was hot as opposed to just freaky looking.

Are you talking about Dr. Emil Lang? He's the world's foremost expert on protoculture and robotechnology!
