Sci-fi commanders you want to serve under

And enough rockets, money and women and I'll take that risk. I won't take it for eating protein packs in a shit spaceship constantly on the run in the backwoods.
I like how you assume you have access to all the cool gadgets and hot women rather than being banished into the space station, like the noob non-family member you are, with nothing to do except listen to the radio. Although you could probably intercept a couple of porn transmissions as well

Heh. Yeah, that guy got the worst job ever. He's even shown sitting around bored, picking his nose, staring wistfully out the windows and shit. And he isn't even needed: the computer listens to transmissions and picks out appropriate ones without him doing anything.Lost Soal wrote:I like how you assume you have access to all the cool gadgets and hot women rather than being banished into the space station, like the noob non-family member you are, with nothing to do except listen to the radio. And I absolutely hated Scott. Fucker got to fly TB1. That ain't on.

Oh television? There aren't any. There are people like Adama who's SUPPOSED to be like that, but I see him as simply bombastic. Err, not as bombastic as Sisko.ray245 wrote:What about commanders that you are willing to die for? Exactly my point. Volunteering to serve under Zapp Brannigan's command should be grounds for discharge due to mental defect.Rye wrote:Why the hell would you do that? He sent wave after wave of men at killbots so their kill counters would max out! He's an idiot!Zed Snardbody wrote:Zap Branigan!
Hell, I'd have a greater chance of living under the command of Vader or any Star Trek commander than Zapp Brannigan. He's THAT incompetent.

It'd go flying out the hole in the starship hull that Brannigan just blasted open, along with Dr. Moriarty and Evil Lincoln.Zed Snardbody wrote:Come one people. I like the idea of being on the run with a few guys in the name of freedom and hijinks. Especially as almost every woman that is likely to stick around is hot and single.

PS, unless you're married the Serenity is like a poon-free zone. I wouldn't want to step aboard, in case it's like Games Workshop stores in it's sex-negating powers.

Actually, I believe he has been mentioned. However, while he'd probably be one of the better 40k leaders to serve under (excepting, say, Eldar leaders who will manipulate thousands of years of history and annihilate whole planets to keep you out of trouble), serving under him is still likely to get you killed in any number of horrifically unpleasant ways, by the nature of the setting.
Frankly, if I had to pick an Imperial commander to serve under, I'd probably pick Ciaphas Cain. He seems to have a talent for not getting his troops hurled into meatgrinders (admittedly, they tend to end up facing off against Necrons and Daemon Princes instead, but most of them seem to come out of it all right), and as long as you stick close to him and get him somewhat sentimentally attached to him, his remarkable ability to get out of trouble will probably do pretty well for you.

I'd rather serve under James Solomon. Even if joining the GDI may be the losing option, I'm not just gonna sell out to the Brotherhood and their Scrin overlords.Erik von Nein wrote:Kane! He lives in death, you know. He's incredible charismatic and his is the only way to live through the coming Tiberium apocolypse.
Kane lives in death!
That, and James Solomon is played by James Earl Jones.

Yeah but if your ass is in a sling (and face it, in just about any serious scifi series it WILL eventually be in a sling) there are only a couple of people i can think of who would go to the wall for you.
Reynolds has gotten SHOT AT to help people he knows vaguely, nuf said
Sheridan IS actually the messiah, but he's also unwaveringly loyal
Gaunt lives in hell, but will go to the wall four you
Sisko was not nearly as reckless as the other guys here, and a good guy
Kirk was reckless but a good guy
Hunt (from Andromeda) was so damn good he had a real halo

Thrawn, Adama, Reynolds, I believe Clavain has been mentioned, and of course once we're in Inhibitor Wars verse I've got to go with Triumvir Volyova post Triumvirate, just as long as I'm not the gunnery officer

Wenli is definitely a good choice, providing you get stationed on Iserlohn or Hyperion, anywhere else is likely to get you killed, since his forces seem to get the shit jobs.montypython wrote:Two other choices would be Grand Admiral Thrawn and Yang Wenli.
Lohengramm is probably a better choice.[/i]

Well, I'm used to picking up after other people's operational messes, too many missions of Bridge Commander, Starfleet Command and Rules of Engagement 2 among others demonstrate the need for that.Jadeite wrote:Wenli is definitely a good choice, providing you get stationed on Iserlohn or Hyperion, anywhere else is likely to get you killed, since his forces seem to get the shit jobs.montypython wrote:Two other choices would be Grand Admiral Thrawn and Yang Wenli.

anyone who survived a land war against Russia. Surved the US military, until he was betrayed and turned to robbing banks. Kept both teams alive really well untill he was betrayed. Of course his crews in NY and LA had like a nearly 0% survival chance.
