On the release date it was under $30 it might be more later on.

It's great IMO. I can't believe they left the Faramir/Boromir scenes out though ...

I'm halfway through the special edition and I am amazed. This like the FOTR Special edition is just so amazingly good. And even more impressive is the fact that I agree with every editing decision made between this version and the theatrical release. We did not lose the essence of the story with the cuts but the special edition adds so much to the character development and backstory. Both are great.

I agree, fantastic stuff, really made a difference. Loved every extra scene bar one where treebeard does the tom bombadil routine as that felt forced and it felt like it had only been inserted on the fly to keep the people who complained about it not being there happy.

Apart from that, as I said, truly great, although Sam seemed to be doing a passable impersonation of an english gentleman in his last scene. Oh, and I think we can rest assured that the sauron/palantir bit will be in at least the extended ROTK due to the references made in this one, as well as the final scenes with merry and pippin, which I liked, oh, and I was rather pleased with what they did with Faramir, still not overly thrilled, but hey, this is the film industry. One last bitch was that I'm not entirely sure about the guy who plays Denethor, but we'll wait until RotK for that.

Excellent quality - buy or rent this. Now. :)

Where Merry & Pippin are drinking the Ent draught and then the tree devours them, at which point Treebeard pulls a Bombadil.

I wouldn't have noticed it except they talk about it in the director's commentary.

Well, the only reason I noticed it was because I listened to the Lord of the Rings radio serialisation 2 years ago and most of the memorable lyrics have stayed with me, like Gollum saying the rhyme that the Barrowwight's say in the standard edition as well.

Just the one mentioned earlier. I tried the same method on disk 2, no effect.

For all I know, the MTV Gollum award is the only easter egg on the set, no RotK preview like the one for TTT on the FotR set.

We got the set sometime last week, and while we haven't watched the extended cut yet, I've been really enjoying the suppliments on discs three and four, except for one tiny problem:

Does Philippa Boyens get on anyone elses nerves as much as she occasionally gets on mine?

Nah, for me its that Richard Taylor I think he's called, head of WETA, his voice and his attitude break everything, I refuse to watch commentaries with him because I can't stand to listen how he just TALKS on and on for 90+ minutes.

Richard Taylor has the best documentary voice, ever.

If he's the guy I think your talking about I tend to agree. Just in the video documentaries from the Extended Editon of tFotR his voice bothered me. It's like nails on a chalkboard annoying.
