What series of this rare genre have you read, what did you enjoy, stuff like that. I'm curious. Since I on-and-off write such, I'm also kinda interested what cliches people have found and what brainbugs annoy them about this.

I have read Mecdes Lackeys modern Fanatsy novles, some are out of print and Josepha Sherman's Son of Darkness I believe. There is also Laurell K Hammiltons books.

Although I think Laurell Hamilton's more Horror than Fantasy. Lackey's Serrated Edge and Bedlam Boys sagas are what I think of as Modern Fantasy.

I liked SERRAted Edge, though the first three were a bit heavy handed. The fourth, Chrome Circle, was an adventure without the heavy-handed "socially relevant" bits of the first three.

Yes, I think it was the best. I've been waiting to hear more from them, but the most I've seen lately are cameos in the Bedlam Boys.

Does the first couple books of the Book of The New Sun count? Its the one with the sword Terminus Est, the Executioners Guild and what not. Also the Book of Swords.

One problem I have is that Mercedes Lackey' SERRAted Edge books but she tries to put the in the same universe as the Di Tregard universe but does not really work well for me, the magic seems much lower powered in those. As well, the last of the Bard Eric stories seems like she forgetten the flow of previous books and does not work real well. Sherman's Son of Darkness is really good and is stand alone

I think that it's safe to declear Neil Gaiman the greatest of modern fantasy writers, what with Sandman, Neverwhere, and American Gods.

Cool. Pretty much the only stuff I've read that might be considered as Modern Fantasy.
