Top 5 Bad Guys Ever

Post by El Moose Monstero »

Well, I know we see these things every now and again, and we've seen the ultimate bad guy time etc etc, but this is really a survey of your favourite bad guys from film (maybe book as well, but film tends to be easiest to picture), resident psychlogists feel free to analyse everyone's suggestions and tell us how twisted we are.

If we have enough repetitions, I'll take the most popular through to a second heat and people can vote if they so desire, but really this is just a curiosity thing.

So:

1) Donald Pleasance's Blofeld - You Only Live Twice
2) Ming the Merciless - Flash Gordon
3) Lucius Malfoy - Harry Potter + Chamber of Secrets
4) The Emperor - Star Wars
5) Ian Mckellan - Magneto or Christopher Lee as Saruman

If we extend that to books, then I may include Moriaty from Sherlock Holmes.

What can be concluded from that list? The only thing I can think of is that I have a thing for classically trained evil english bad guys, and bald people.

Anyone else?

Mmmmmmm, Lucius Malfoy....

Oh. *ahem* Sorry.

Umm, Hannibal Lector must be included on this list, since he is my personal favourite bad guy ever. Hmm, who else is in there? The Phantom, from "The Phantom of the Opera" (not exactly in the right medium, but I love him to bits too) is also one of my favourites ever. I love it when murderers have so much charisma that I like them regardless of their scary past. :D

1) Darth Vader
2) Hannibal Lecter (from Silence of the Lambs, and to a lesser extent Red Dragon...he wasn't as scary of a presence in Hannibal)
3) The Terminators - Arnold specifically
4) Goldfinger
5) Michael Corleone - both a protagonist and a villain at the same time.

BTW, Zaia, is it just me or have you not been posting as much as normal recently?

Do games count? If so,

1) Jon Irenicus. The guy was just awesome. "You will suffer! You will all suffer!"

2) Darth Vader. Der.

3) Lex Luther! (mostly the recent cartoon Lex, he was the coolest)

4) Dr. Evil

5) Um... STALIN!... meh, I couldn't think of anyone else.

In any case it was supposed to be Star Trek II, not Star Wars.

No one would ever have guessed that.
In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. If I wish, I can smash it all. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that raze the mounds of humanity. Out of chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well.

Oh, and on topic: Magneto, Agent Smith and Kakihara.

Too many, must subdivide.

Anime and Manga in no particular order:
Cooler, from DBZ. incredible style, some sweet moves, not afraid to shoot his enemy in the back, or nuke him while he's down.
Raouh(sp?) Fist of the North Star
Tetsuo, Akira
Desty Nova, Battle Angel
A toss-up between Aptom and Alkanphel from Guyver

Movies:
Deacon Frost, Blade.
Agent Smith
The first Terminator
Chubby guy from Equilibrium
Aww, what the heck, Emperor Palpatine

Other mediums will follow as I think of them.

5) The Borg Collective circa TNG "The Best of Both Worlds". The Borg were truly scary before they were overexposed and suckified.

4) Vorbis from Pratchett's Small Gods. IMHO, Pratchett's best villain. Completely ruthless, hypocritical, yet absolutely convinced that he is right.

3) Godzilla. Even when he's on the side of the angels, he still costs Japan billions in property damage.

2) Darth Vader. THE sci-fi villain. Amazingly grew from a stock Evil Dark Lord to the tragic antihero of the Star Wars saga (according to Lucas. R2-D2 is the real hero).

1) The Joker, Batman: TAS. Pure evil just for the fun of it.

1.) The Emperor
2.) Dr. Doom (what can I say?)
3.) T-1000 (Robert Patrick is just so unstoppable; adds a real menacing air, much more so than T-X, IMHO)
4.) Lex Luther
5.) The Shredder (NINJA TURTLES FOREVER!!!)

Unicron
He's not evil, simply misunderstood.... and hungry.

Just personal preferance, but I enjoy Thanos style. I like him as a concept.

1. Vader (bum, bum bum, well you know the words)
2.Megatron (original)
3. Kefka (Hate, Hate, Hate,Hate!)
4. Sephiroth (the one winged angel)
5. Predator (movie and comics/books)

Some of my favorite "villans" often slip through the cracks at first glance, although I believe the story is fashioned in order that they can be considered representative of faults (and thus, villans in their own right).

1. John Hammond of Jurassic Park; representive of hubris.

2. Darth Vader of the Star Wars Trilogy; pure badass.

3. T-1000 of Terminator 2: Judgement Day; can you say, "Nice bike..."?

4. Sauron of the Lord of the Rings; evil incarnate.

5. The Good of the The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly; so cool, so mean.

1. Darth Vader. Best villain ever put on screen. Period.

2. The Commandant in Schindler's List. He does a spectacular job, making his character seem believable and not intentionally evil, but horrifying, anyway.

3. Not really a villain, but Michael himself in The Godfather series. I include him as a villain because he's clearly an evil guy in a lot of ways, and he's great because at the same time he seems understandable.

4. The Alien, from the appropriately titled Alien.

5. Roy Batty, from Blade Runner. Another extremely well done villain, Batty combines a unique mixture of elements that add to the films message, and ultimately mystique.
