Who is this Cthulhu fellow anyway

Post by NapoleonGH »

Ok im a little clueless and my search of the forums didnt turn up any topics that looked like they would answer my question, so ill ask flat out, who/what is this Cthulhu thing people refer to. I infer that it is some form of satan/evil diety, am i correct, if so what details are there about it?

Look for H.P. Lovecraft

Specifically in OSF. There's a link there to all of his works.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft. If the horror genre had a lineage, he would be the son of Edgar Allan Poe, brother to August Derleth and Robert E. Howard, and father of Stephen King.

Big big importent information

Keep in mind that it is NOT pronounced "ka-thoo-loo". That's just something the RPG made up because they didn't know.

Most experts agree that it is pronounced someting like "khloo'loo".

There is a Call of Cthulhu game in the works for the PC

I wish that stupid octopus would just roll over and die
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Two of them: Nyarlathotep is, I believe, a self-titled story by Lovecraft. Then there's The Crawling Chaos.

Oops, wrong about The Crawling Chaos -- not a Nyarlathotep story, but I'm pretty sure Nyarlathotep is a Nyarlathotep story.

Another very, very good directly Cthulhu-related story by Lovecraft is At The Mountains Of Madness. Give it a read.

And on a "tooting my own horn" note, there's a piece in fanfic by the title Storm Warning. It's a teaser for a novel called Stormfront which incorporates Lovecraftian mythology (vs. Norse Mythology.)

Same reason they spelled it "Cathulu" on The Real Ghostbusters. Legalities.

Cradle Of Filth have a tune called 'Cthulhu Dawn' and funnily enough I was listening to it when I read this topic.

This is what Cthulhu is like.

Hopefully it isn't too big of a picture.
