Re: Elheru:

Yeah.

There might be some specific, unique thing that can leave permanent scars on Wolverine, but I don't know what it would be. And aside from that, the presence of scars on his back, even if for only a few hours at a time, would be a sign that something has very much depressed his healing factor.

In the movie universe: I have no idea. Wolverine's healing factor is *extremely* good. Supposedly Deadpool's is even better, but is held in check by having to constantly battle cancer (but we do see him regenerate an entire hand and wrist in less than 24 hours, so...).

Comics: There's the 'Muramasa Blade' which supposedly can kill people with Wolverine's specific set of mutant traits. Presumably it might scar one of them; I have no idea. I think it's a bit less than effective though considering that Wolverine killed Sabertooth with it, and then Sabertooth popped back up again in a few years.

In the current continuity, Wolverine died after his healing factor started breaking down. Possibly they decided to include that in the plot of this film. It does add a bit of deliberate pathos.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

NOTE: POSSIBLE SPOILERS. This concerns the director's decision to have Wolvy with scars. I will just post the link, click on it if you want. It contains a direct quote from the director:

Click Here to find out why Logan has scars in that shot. There's no actual plot spoilers, just character ones based on the director's opinion.

I always thought it was weird Logan didn't heal with some vicious scarring. Humans heal a certain way. Accelerating that healing process (I would think) would lead to overactive Platelets forming into larger masses as the body quickly heals itself, giving no time for dirt, damaged blood cells, and just other general junk to get out of the way or get cleaned out by the body before it went back to "business as usual." Logan's healing factor seems much more artificial that it does natural.

Knowing to "push" the bullet out of his head in X2 is a good example. I can't think of a situation where something that breaks through the skin like that is "pushed" out. The body is more likely to absorb it and cover it in "gunk" (to use a techincal term). Our skin pushes small debris to the surface, but that's about it. Epidermal cells are pretty "smart," (they'll grow around glass, but through a mesh) but also that effect is due to the way skin heals/creates new skin. NOTE: not a doctor here, just some asshole.

Sidenote: while I found the book..... passable, Daughter of the Drow jumped into this with magical healing potions. Since it was "brute forcing" the healing, this left considerable scarring unlike if you had time to let a Cleric do the healing. It was a plot-point in the book since some Drow swordmasters were all mad about having scars..... which made no fucking sense. Whatever, hijack over.

In some of his own comics Wolverine would heal up with bullets still in him and had to cut them out. I think maybe sometimes foreign objects would slowly work their way out but nowhere like how it is shown in the movies. At least he has the unbreakable bones to explain why he doesn't have more issues. If he had to go constantly go through the rebreaking of bones so they could be properly set I think he'd be in another line of work.

If you ever read Savage Dragon he had a massively good healing factor but one of his enemies used it against him. She broke most of the bones in Dragon's body and then dumped him down a smokestack. He healed all sorts of fucked up and they had to bring in Mighty Man (a rip-off version of both Captain Marvels, Shazam and Mar-vel) to re-break the bones so they could hurry up and set them before Dragon healed again.

I've seen some characters who have some mental control over their bodies that helps direct their healing. The Eternals supposedly have control of their own molecules to the extent that they can recover from being disintegrated as long as their molecules are spread out too far. Whatever that means.

The Valiant character Deadshot has nanites in his blood stream that direct and aid his healing. So that sort of character there's a bit more logic in why he heals back to "good as new" without the problems normal healing would have.

A good point, that; I remember (vaguely, it's been a while) reading a story with a character who had a similar healing ability. He was pinned to a wall by a ridiculous number of sharp pointy things, and by the time he was rescued, he'd healed around the blades. Much ick and argh while they were removed.

That happened to a sexually submissive werewolf in one of the Anita Blake novels - don't remember which one exactly as that was after the series had jumped the bad fan-fic porn shark and I had largely lost interest.

That's almost signature-able.

On topic, I can't remember the title of the run where Wolverine's adamantium had become unbound (bad guy dosed him with something - may have been nanites), and his healing factor was expelling it. A girl in a bar cut herself on a "silver" hair. Had much the same look as the Wolverine and Havok limited series Meltdown.

Not a werewolf, one of the were-leopards. That was the book where there was 10chapters of sex between the first and second murders, and then another 5chapters of sex before the third. Also, the bad guys got away with it, because she didn't find them in time.
Maybe if she wasn't having sex so much, she'd have solved the damn case.

That might well be it — it's not often I only remember a scene or two from a book I read less than 30-40 years ago, but this series managed it. I don't think I even finished reading the last one I got...

Tevar is right - it was actually a wereleopard.

I miss the days when Anita was an uptight girl with just one man at a time who raised zombies for a living.

I haven't read any of her books for awhile. I still hung on for way too long but I remember one book where she actually used her necromancer powers again and it actually kind of shocked me because the books had focused so much on all the S&M sex she was having and the various super powers she was picking up by being linked to so many supernatural beings instead of necromancy and vampire hunting.

The same author's series about the "Faerie Princess" was a slightly better adaptation of her "character has lots of sex with various hot supernatural beings (who also heal really fast) and is unexplainably powerful herself" formula she was using in the later Anita Blake books but it became pretty obvious it wasn't going to go anywhere when it sort of started circling around on itself.

When the Faerie Princess' role was to bear an heir ASAP, I kinda figured it would devolve quickly. Pity, some of the potential fathers had interesting backstories that could have lead to great stories.

Wolverine: Origins is a guilty pleasure of mine. Like I know it's shit, and yes even perhaps as a piece of art objectively (word usage intended) bad, but I kinda like it.

I love The Wolverine except for 2 things; it should have been R (he has god damned claws coming out of his hands, I wanna see blood) and it completely falls over in the final act (smells like studio interference).

Looking forward to this.
