Beetlejuice 2 annouced

Post by dragon »

Sure, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton have projects like “Big Eyes” and “Birdman” keeping them busy nowadays, but every time we get the chance to sit down with the frequent collaborators, the conversation quickly drifts to “Beetlejuice 2.”

Keaton told us on February 13 that he was in if Burton was, and on October 17 he mentioned that they were waiting for a script; but now Burton is here to set the record straight — “Beetlejuice 2″ is happening, and some very familiar faces will return.

“Oh yeah,” Burton said, when MTV News asked if he’d be directing the sequel. And his response to the question of whether or not Winona Ryder would be returning?

“Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah,” he said. “Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah.”

Hear that? That’s the sound of nine “yeahs.” So if “yeahs” were Beetlejuices, we’d have three at this point. We’re still waiting on the one, but Burton did say that working with Ryder on a recent video for The Killers helped influence his decision to return to the ghostly franchise.

“I worked with [Ryder], I hadn’t seen her in awhile… and she was so great,” Burton said. “I was so happy to see her. So those kinds of elements mean something to me. Michael, and her… and that character, I just miss it, there’s some freedom about that character that I love.”

On the one hand, my reaction is, "God fucking damnit, I've been using Beetlejuice as my go-to example for years of a title that got in and got out without trying to milk it after it stopped being cool and Glenn Shadix is dead and how can you even..."

On the other, I fucking love the original and might enjoy a well-done update, with Lydia in her mid-40s with a couple of hilariously-morbid little kids like Lowell in Kindergarten Cop ("Everybody dies, you know..."), Delia or Charles dead but still in the cast, the other in their 70s and totally batty, and 28-some-odd years of experience with the supernatural under their belts. Baldwin, Davis, and Keaton would require some de-aging CGI, but it's doable.

Keaton's character is a shapeshifting supernatural entity, so de-aging CGI isn't necessary. Hiring another actor- even actresses- to play "Baby Beetlejuice" may be cheaper than using CGI to de-age Keaton.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Keaton has held up nicely age wise. Even if he hadn't, it's all prosthetic makeup anyway.

My question is why Ryder has to be attached? Why not let a new generation of young girls have Beetlejuice as their own? I mean, it's not like they are bringing back Alec Baldwin or Gena Davis or Ferris Bueller's child porn having Principal as her father. Bettlejuice isn't attached to Lydia like that imaginary Fred guy.

Honestly, I'd be happier with Otho coming back as a Beetlejuice hunter.

Hit it.

Has he? I think he looks a little worn-out lately.

Conceded.

I'm just a fan.

Totally viable.

I don't see why Baldwin, Davis, or Jones wouldn't come back for this. It's a cult favorite, and none of the above has much going on right now.
