Looks pretty good.

I'm certainly liking Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug. 8)

I do end up wondering how many of the characters added for these movies are going to be dead by the end so there's
no question why we don't see them in the LOTR trilogy.

Well, one of the character's grave was depicted in the Fellowship of the Ring. However, the reason why a large number of these characters were not featured in the LOTR was because we are only shown one front of the war.
Humans are such funny creatures. We are selfish about selflessness, yet we can love something so much that we can hate something.

I'm fairly sure he does.

I'm mostly wondering about Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly) and Rhadagast. Tauriel's comments to Legolas about needing to be involved because they are part of the world too, coupled with Tauriel being a newly created character makes me think that she might be destined to die to provide Legolas motivation for his involvement during the LOTR.

Was Radagast off somewhere else during the LOTR?

Yes. He was summoned to the Council of Elrond but never showed, if the message even reached him. Gandalf says his brother the Brown Wizard is both a great nature lover and terribly absent-minded and has been called to task before for neglecting wizardry duties in favor of wandering the wilderness befriending every beast.

EDIT: before his film appearance this was literally all the material that existed on Radagast.

Spoiler
It was made abundantly clear in Fellowship that Balin entered Moria alive, though; he doesn't die in The Hobbit.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Spoiler
Fili, Kili and Thorin die at the battle of the 5 armies at the end of the book (there's 1 or 2 others as well but I can't remember that names atm), I dout Peter Jackson will change their fate for the movie, Balin survives only to die in an orc ambush in the time between Hobbit and LOTR
