Beastmaster III: The Eye of Braxus

Post by amigocabal »

The last installment in the Beastmaster trilogy, the plot revolves around Lord Agon, ruler of a city-state who sacrifices young men in a magic ritual to keep his youth. He seeks a talisman called the Eye of Braxus to unlock the door to ultimate power. The talisman is in the possession of a young king named Tal, who rules a kingdom called Arok. To safeguard it, the king gives half of it to his brother- Dar, the Beastmaster.

Lord Agon's warriors attack the king's royal encampment and capture him. Darf teams up with the royal advisor Seth to rescue Tal.
Spoiler
This time, Ruhr is a lion. The ferrets seem to be different ferrets than the ones in the previous two movies, but ferrets only have an average lifespan of eight years, so these are clearly not the ferrets at the end of the first movie, which took place fourteen years before.
Spoiler
Given the events of the previous movie, one might wonder why Tal's guards did not have rifles or hand-held radios. One likely answer is that the portal was located deep in a barren wasteland, and it would take a great deal of resources to supply a permanent base with food and water, and from the other movies, we know that Arok is not exactly a wealthy realm. At most, what they would have retrieved from the portal would be reference books and machine tools that could be rigged to run on hand cranks or water wheels.
Spoiler
Not surprisingly, Agon gets the talisman and unlocks the door, releasing the god Braxus. Amnd even less surprisingly, he is possessed by Braxus. Who could have predicted that an evil god would do such a dick move?

Braxus looks like a muppet Jim Henson would have designed during a bad acid trip. (The girl from the previous movie would likely have used those exact words.) Neither Dar nor his allies are even frightened

Braxus does have deadly abilities, such as spitting out pointy spikes and liquids that can dissolve people. However, his knowledge of battle tactics is next to nil.

Basically, Dar distracts him so the ferrets can chew the rope holding a chandeleir, causing it to drop of Braxus's head. He rips out the talisman from Braxus's forehead (which magnified the god's powers) and stabbed him and kicked him into a fiery pit.

In other words, he went down like a punk. Is it any wonder he was sealed behind those doors in the first place? I must write, the trilogy is a perfect example of villain decay.
