Little Witch Academia

Post by Ford Prefect »

Since 2010, the Young Animator Training Project has been turning out a handful of one shot anime each year for the purpose of ... training young animators. One of the involved studios this year was Trigger, made up of former Gainax alumni under Imaishi Hiroyuki. The result is Little Witch Academia, conceived, designed and directed by Yoshinari Yoh - one of Gainax's top animators, now freelance. It's a really impressive piece of animation all up, colourful and charismatic, and overall the show was a fun and engaging adventure romp: Harry Potter by way of Yoshinari's visual flair.

The best thing is that Trigger uploaded an official stream to youtube with English subs, which you should totally watch!

I suggest watching it on Youtube as opposed to embedded here, too.

Yoshinari is apparently interested in doing more with the premise, and so wants to see if it can pick up some serious momentum. So watch it, like it, favourite it and share it around, yo.

Magic is believing! :v

Very well-done. If they can maintain the quality in a longer format, doing more is a no-brainer. I look forward to what else they do.

And now, Kickstarter for LWA 2 is on here. Already up to 535.000, looks like it was really underground hit :)

Best thing is, they started it during SD Comicon, and they were on the floor when somebody walked up to em and said "Congrats with your kickstarter!" And they were like "Huh, it's been less than twelve hours!" and back in their room they checked, and sure enough, it was already funded. To say that LWA is a bit of a sleeper hit is an understatement.
