Last Roadside Picnic

Post by Irbis »

...I don't know why no one mentioned it yet, but one of the last great Soviet SF/Fantasy writers, Boris Strugatsky died two days ago, surviving his brother by 11 years.

To these who never heard of him, if you ever saw Stalker movie, or played STALKER series games, or read The Roadside Picnic, Hard to Be a God - all were based on their work.

Sigh, since edit window passed, before someone nitpicks it - by 22 years, actually.

If I were to mention my 5 favourite writers (before Anglosaxon SF/Fantasy began to be imported in great quantities here, and we mostly has access to Warsaw Pact ones only) he was probably last one alive

As someone who has at least played Stalker, but is also interested in the brothers' works, I'm sad to hear that he passed. In fact, when I was reading about the two of them I hadn't realized one of them had died!

Although I'd only read a synopsis, I thought Roadside Picnic was a pretty neat story.
