Well, the clerics aren't important, if what Durkula was saying is true.. I think the plan is to make Roy detour into the Dwarven Lands. Not sure why, other than to give Durkula a chance to strike at the Hight Priest of Thor.

The fact that they're on a pilgrimage seems important, not who exactly is on it. A vampire cleric of Hel might want to desecrate whatever holy site they're visiting, for example.

Remember that the pilgrimage itself is apparently hush-hush as well; none of the temples would say anything about it even when (as in the clergy of Hoder's case) they didn't know about Durkula.

We had a hint Hel has no clerics. Could it be it's because mountains are warded against undead and any vampire wishing to enter might want to sabotage the system first?

Spoiler
The part about the prophesy of Durkon bringing ruin when he returned to the Dwarven lands is in the actual comic somewhere, not just the books?
Also, recall the Oracle's prophesy that Durkon would return home "posthumously"...

Dunno, but having a vampire massacre an entire top secret pilgrimage seems like it might be a big step toward fixing that shortage

That said, something feels missing. Hel would be going for relatively low stakes given what the Order is already dealing with

Well, it explains how Durkon is going to be able to so easily kill the Elf healer, it's(I've learned from V to not establish genders unless absolutely sure) clearly an idiot.

OTOH, it could be feigning stupidity to get the vampire right in position to whack it good with some spells.

What do you want? Not every page can have some earth-shattering development; they needed to meet the cleric and they did.

Besides, as he explained on the front page of the site, this was actually a Kickstarter backer fulfillment; the cleric is the character of the person who paid the big bucks for a walk-on role. Her bodyguard is named for a major poster on his message board who passed away a couple of years ago; the character was named for his website handle as a favor to the deceased's wife.

987 is up.

I like the two new characters.

So, are the two characters contest winners from the Order of the Stick kickstarter or something?

Well, that wraps up the last bit of subplot taking place in this town, and at a pretty brisk pace, too. :)

I'm just happy the updates are coming at a reasonable rate. The ratio of 2 strips of plot advancement to 2-3 strips filler isn't so bad when you get a strip or two a week rather than getting one strip every two weeks.

The shield is in front of Wrecan, while in all other panels he's wearing it on his back.

I just love Little Whiskers and Mr. Scruffy :D

Given how he's standing in the second panel, I assume what's happening in the 3rd is that he's looking over his shoulder. A bit awkward to portray from that view angle with stick figures.
