"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

Heheheh... I think the Magic is no longer in her words, from the way the color of her bubble changed.
Nitram, slightly high on cough syrup: Do you know you're beautiful?
Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Re: The OotS Thread II
obviously Haley needs to visit the Bene Gesseritt and get the non-magical ability to do that full time.
The scariest folk song lyrics are "My Boy Grew up to be just like me" from cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin

Well, she stepped inside an anti-magic field, so it obviously is not active anymore (tough i am not sure whether it will come active again when she goes outside).LadyTevar wrote:Heheheh... I think the Magic is no longer in her words, from the way the color of her bubble changed.

Also, judging by the dialogue, she certainly seems to believe that the potion will be back in effect once she steps outside the anti-magic field - looks like it's just suppressing the magic, not dispelling it (unless she's misinterpreted the rules...which could get interesting.)

I think it's more along the lines of the guards she already tricked aren't going to "realize" what happened just because she stepped in...

Re: The OotS Thread II
The title is rather true, it would be less improbable.
That said, are there any main characters who saw eye to eye with their parents? True, we haven't seen Belkar's family, or Durkon's, but someone has to have a good level of understanding with their parents, right?

Re: The OotS Thread II
I would think that people with a well-settled home life generally don't become adventurers - or rather, that most adventurers owe their wanderlust, in part, to issues with their family. This holds doubly true in a medieval setting, where most people might be expected to spend their entire lives in the same village.FaxModem1 wrote:The title is rather true, it would be less improbable.

He was a guild leader that was grooming his daughter, who obviously has become a high level rogue herself.
Assuming it was her idea and not a wild circumstance is only natural.

Also, she does manipulate people on a regular basis, just not this specific instance.
Conversion Table:
2000 Mockingbirds = 2 Kilomockingbirds
Basic Unit of Laryngitis = 1 Hoarsepower
453.6 Graham Crackers = 1 Pound Cake
1 Kilogram of Falling Figs - 1 Fig Newton
Time Between Slipping on a Banana Peel and Smacking the Pavement = 1 Bananosecond
Half of a Large Intestine = 1 Semicolon

I'll admit I didn't. It will be interesting explaining to Dad why Haley is in love with Tarquin's son.

Re: The OotS Thread II
I have to wonder how successfully Ian's infiltrated the city and Empire's infrastructure.
And how dramatic would this be; Ian Starshine + OoTS vs Tarquin, his allies, the "Empress" and Nale's bunch.
Then, when it's about to become truly legendary (i.e Ian + Elan take down Tarquin + Nale), a certain forgotten Epic lich shows up.....
And Tarquin starts ranting about his moment being upstaged by a bag of bones...

Re: The OotS Thread II
Considering that Nale is a wanted traitor to the Empire (apparently with a death sentence already passed, considering they were about to execute Elan before Tarquin stepped in), I doubt he'd be teaming with Tarquin and company anytime soon.Solauren wrote:I have to wonder how successfully Ian's infiltrated the city and Empire's infrastructure.

Yeah we've only known that for the last 609 comic strips (at least)

He's also lawful good, and Elan is one of his people. Duty, honor, and all that jazz, y'know?

Re: The OotS Thread II
Now, who in the group has the highest charisma? Haley or Elan? What kind of modifier applies to talking to a family NPC?
How much of a negative modifier would Elan have as the son of their enemy?

Roy is pretty much a walking, talking example of why lawful good is someone you want around you at all times.Rogue 9 wrote:He's also lawful good, and Elan is one of his people. Duty, honor, and all that jazz, y'know?
I have to admit, though, that Tarquin would love that kind of plan to infiltrate their party. I can't blame la resistance for coming to that conclusion, not knowing the extenuating details like the readers do.
