They lost me when the aliens showed up. I was expecting a Batman short film. Not a franchise crossover wankfest.

To be fair, Batman has been crossed with at least one, if not both, the Aliens and Predator frachise before.

It was about perfect for the length of a crossover special, 7:30 was just long enough to introduce, escalate, and resolve a 42 page story, (leaving potential for the next issue, of course)

Anyway, Someone cast Andrew Koenig as the next Joker, he's possibly the best live interpretation of any Batman character. Ever.

BTW, he's Walter (Checkov, Bester) Koenig's son!

Needed better dialogue(sorry the whole Joker/Bats talk was something almost out of Batman the Movie) but the look and feel was excellent.

Good production values. Too bad they were wasted on a fanboyish crossover.

I wonder how much the Xeno and Pred costumes cost?

But yeah, not that great of a movie. Image

It was....OK. I was impressed by the attention to detail, costumes and the Alien especially, but it was too weird, and the Joker Batman dialogue was particularly weak. Koenigs Joker looked a little too inhuman.

There was alsio a very amateurish attemtp to make these cool visual moments that made me go...hmmm...yep I can see three fanboys sitting at a table discussing what positiotns Batman would be in, hell most of it was liek Batman porn with him in different heroic (erotic?) poses.

Sorry, but story wise and cineamtography wise VERY amteurish and fanboyish but the porduction values were top notch.

I have to say overall, it was ok. I too groaned when Alien showed up. I shook my head when Predator showed up. Why couldn't the guy leave it pure? I picture someone throwing a kitchen sink at Batman in the next scene.

I think the cinematography was terrific. The dialogue was weak where Batman was concerned. Speak up, "Bats"!

I'm only aware of "Batman vs. Predator" What were the other two?

As to aliens, he's had atleast two run-ins with them.

I know for sure there was a second Bats vs Pred (father + son team after Batman and Robin), but I dunno about a third...

1st batman vs predator was batman vs 1 honourable predator i believe.

2nd batman vs predator was batman vs a rogue predator that was being hunted by some other predators.

3rd batman vs predator i've not read, but i've heard batman has to team up with mr freexe to take care of the problem.

batman vs alien i refuse to read. He should be dead. 8)

That's what's great about the WildCATS /Aliens crossover.

It ends a whole comic series (Stormwatch) by wiping out all but about four of the major characters.

They only got Warren Ellis to write it on the condition that he was allowed to kill Stormwatch.

Yeah Bats should've been dead or at least whup out the Bat-Uber suit.

Oh and yes they did make a second one...something merged with Joker virus.

Personally a great many of the company crossovers are garbage because it's like it's to go "Wouldn't it be great?" and honestly the execution never pans out as well as the idea(maybe Avengers/JLA...but more because of the people behind it)

I quite liked Batman vs Predator 2, but the predator was so badly drawn it makes me cringe. Especially since I could've drawn it better, the story wasn't so bad though.

Although batman should've been killed in that one too.:P

I think part of what sinks many crossovers in general is that the proponents never look to the larger issues that make the individual properties work. Many fictional characters are embedded in a universe of implicit assumptions that can be contradictory. A good writer can address in a number of ways, but overlooking it can lead to some pretty painful stories.

Look at the X-Men/Star Trek crossovers. I thought they uniformly sucked and a lot of it was the simple feeling that these characters never quite fit together in the same world. OTOH, there was a Punisher/Archie crossover a few years ago that actually worked very well because the writer found a way to make the grim-n-gritty Punisher and the squeaky-clean Riverdale crew fit together without either of them seeming like a fish out of water.

The DCU/Marvel crossovers have usually been okay, at least in terms of the universes fitting together because they both have fairly similar genres (One of the things I liked about Kurt Busiek's description of the upcoming JLA/Avengers crossover was his discussion about the different ways the two groups handle their foes and how the beginning of the story swaps their typical opponents to highlight the differences.). Conversely, even though Planetary and the Authority take place in the same fictional world, the crossover only seemed to work because the two groups never really met, instead working on different ends of the same problem. Even then, the crossover seemed somewhat tepid, the hot action of Authority and the cool intrigue of Planetary mixing for a lukewarm story.

Anyway, the integration of two separate and distinct fictional universes is the biggest problem I see with bad crossovers (assuming the story doesn't just plain SUCK). YMMV

I heard that this was a test reel for a new special effects company. If that is true, then I think they did a pretty good job. The predator costumes and the Joker makeup looked really good.

Hopefully the guy will remember that the Predators hunt in hot climates, not rainy nights.... :?
