Well, Roy can still put out the damage, energy drains or no energy drain. Impalement in OoTS generally indicates a really serious wound, although it often doesn't put main characters out of the fight entirely.

Fighters get a d10 hit die, and the smart ones crank CON to back it up. Clerics get d8's, and add con..unless they're intelligent undea, at which point they add...charisma. And Dukula has a shitty CHA score for a Cleric, so he actually took a HP loss with the transformation.

Actually it's worse hp wise if the strip follows 3.5 rules completely as no undead except for those with specific feats or being a dry lich get charisma to hp. they do get their hit dice converted to d12s so he could theoretically come out with the same or more hp assuming his original con was no more than 19 as 20 con would be +5 per level and thus make it a net hp loss regardless of the dice rerolls

Course vampires have decent fast healing and dr so that can make up for it during this fight especially when he was able to get away from melee for a few rounds

I would think that no longer being a solid object counts as having 'left the floor,' yes.

I wonder what's going on with the stairs, though.

I think the issue is that the priest doesn't want to leave the area and loose his vote and Durkula killed off a bunch if not all the ushers to stop anyone being able to get the lesser priests.

I assumed Durkula cast Silence over the area, or whatever that yellow field is is causing interference.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Durkula wants the lesser priests gotten; Hel's plan depends on it.

Could be a barrier, could be silence, could be divine interference or, as said, not wanting to leave the floor and lose a crucial vote.

Definitely not Hel's work though, her whole thing was tying the vote so it would default on the minor gods, because she knew they'd vote with her. The minor god's representatives showing is her win-state. That being the case, it'd be ironic if Durkula's earlier feeding is what derailed the plan now.

Rich Burlew posted on the Order of the Stick board that the barrier is part of the vote and he thought the yellow being the same color as the divine energy of the Northern Pantheon would be clue enough. So there's that. The ushers being dead will, in that case, present a problem.

Harm's a bitch for those that don't remember
Harm charges a subject with negative energy that deals 10 points of damage per caster level (to a maximum of 150 points at 15th level). If the creature successfully saves, harm deals half this amount, but it cannot reduce the target’s hit points to less than 1.
This is changed from older editions where the damage was unlimited dropping you to 1 hitpoint or 1d4 hitpoints depending on edition... oh and it could give the clap as well in very old editions inflicting a random disease on you in addition to almost one shoting you.

Regardless of version Roy's at 1hp meaning he's one finger poke away from dying. Or more likely vampire drain attack.

So basically, Roy needs a big damn heroes moment right about now. Belkar? Wreccan? Loki?

Belkar is the only one who can without getting wasted immediately by everyone else in the room, and he fell off the mountain. Even if he survived the fall, it would take him a long time to hike back up.

Also, that was one hell of a Concentration check from someone with no Constitution score.

I think we're short-selling the benefit of having allies on a flying ship orbiting said mountain (and a Wizard with weeks of practice retrieving falling Halflings). Given how often Rich pulls this kind of Big Damn Heroes (or Villains) moment...

That would be very interesting roleplay in an actual game, personifying the worst of your character's traits and bringing them all to the forefront, to the point where a group can have a total TPK over it.

I've actually done stuff very similar to it in-game.

Well, those were some feels.

I rather passionately disagree with the notion "You are who you are on your worst day. Everything else is a comforting lie you tell yourself." Of course Durkon has some issues with his people but I don't think he sincerely wishes eternal damnation upon them. Ma Thundershield's poor parenting advice strikes again.

It hurt surprisingly much to see Durkon fall silent, especially since Roy could really use the distraction of an internal debate about now.

It would make little sense to include Durkon's soul to have ongoing debates with his vampire spirit unless it was going to have a tangible impact on something outside his metaphorical head.

Naturally. Remember, Durkula is a creature of Evil; you're not supposed to sympathize with his outlook. After all, we know it isn't universal; if the Bureaucratic Deva that judged Roy in the afterlife agreed with Durkula on that, he would have been chucked to True Neutral without batting an eye, as she explicitly said.
