Superlasers and Stars

What effect would a superlaser have on a star? Is it possible to destroy a star completely or cause a Sun Crusher type effect?

Furthermore, how would the effects vary in regards to the size of star and scale of superlaser (Eclipse, as opposed to DSII etc.)?

iirc this was covered in a recent thread. early tests of the death star's superlaser against a solar system's star involved a miscalculation. the results were the star creating an explosion powerful enough to destroy one of the civilized worlds in the system. can't recall which thread it was mentioned in off the top of my head though.

If you pumped 1E38 joules into our Sun, you would dramatically heat it up. Even if it took the Sun an entire year to shed this excess heat and return to a relatively near-equilibrium state, its power output during that year would be around 8000 times normal. Needless to say, we'd all fry.

More realistically, you'd probably get the mother of all surface mass ejections, thus resulting in a massive plasma wave throughout the system which quickly scours our planet clean of life.

So the DS was more then just a planet killer. Its a planet COOKER.

Using a DS like that is the "slow death" version of killing people on a planets surface. Nice !!
But this only happens when the Emperor is pissed off

Which is exactly what happened.

Huh? A plasma wave scoured a planet in Medstar?

About 2.5 years prior to Medstar. Connor posted quotes a little back.

The Galactic Republic already has a superlaser prototype? Interesting.

Well remeber that the head of the Republic is also master to the head of his 'opponent/counterpart' in the Seperatist movement, who also happened to be presented by Poggle the Lesser in AOTC with the blueprints to a station-sized superlaser.

As the Republic gunships in AOTC show, the basic idea for the superlaser is already in place in the prequel trilogy, albeit in a smaller form. Therefore, it works both ways. Palpatine placates dissent in the Senate with the development of a new weapon to use against the Seperatists, but he also gets to test out the weapon that will insure that his eventual ascension to the title of Emperor goes unchallanged.

I suppose that world didnĀ“t have a planetary shield.
