How much of the Star Wars Holiday Special have you seen?

The Star Wars Holiday Special, the one part of SW I cannot recall seeing someone saying they even ironically like.

How you watched it? Just part of it (the Boba Fett cartoon maybe? The bit with Bea Arthur?)? Or were you one of the brave who managed to weather through the whole thing? What are your thoughts on the infamous special?

I saw all of it on that famous bootleg. It's just bad, and not in any real fun way.

Xkcd said it well

I'll joke about the Ewoks movies being the best Star Wars ever (Charal: The greatest villain in the mythos?), but if I did the same joke with the Holiday Special, you folk'd commit me, and would be right do to so ^^

I tried watching it but gave up after few minutes of un-subtiled wookie talk

I've seen bits and pieces on Youtube plus a few in depth video reviews and I can certainly see why its so reviled. Probably with a bit of tweaking it might not be as bad, still bad, like having subtitled Wookiees and not having Chewie's dad watching porn.

Is the Holiday Special still canon?

I saw it at least once back when it aired on TV but don't really remember much about it other than part of it being about "Wookie Christmas".

Was there a Boba Fett cartoon with it or was that from somewhere else?

I saw the Ewok movies when they were originally on TV but don't recall much about them either.

That was in it. It's generally considered the only good part, but it's not all that good ^^

They're in an entirely different league, though definitely children's fair. Trailer

IIRC According to the old system, the Holiday Special was non-canon apart from things referenced elsewhere and Lucas was adamant that it would stay that way. So I don't see Disney making it canon, seeing how protective they are about their IPs.

Believe it or not, the whole thing was canon, they did not specifically exclude it.

Thats probably because to specifically exclude it they'd have to acknowledge that it existed.

I have seen the whole thing, and it was bad. Its not even fun bad, like Birdemic, its just almost unbearably bad.

Only saw a few snippets. It seems I would have to be paid to see it whole.

*thinks* Maybe it wasn't Cracked. I know I read a summary of it on some humor site. Might have been Seanbaby.

Oh, Cracked's hit it a few time, once by him!

I only saw Notalgia Critic's summary, and even though it was funny I still had to watch this over two sittings:

It has literally no redeeming value. I am honestly not sure why I even watched this all the way through.

All of it. But I'm old enough to have been watching it on TV . Live. And wondering if this was the end of the saga
Luckily, Empire came along. And everyone pretty much considers THIS thing as like a certain Trek episode that is so fucking bad, they Tried (and failed) to convince us it never happened....

I've watched all of it two or three times because well I hate myself I suppose. I tried to have my wife watch it once a few years ago and she was able to sit through about 10 minutes before she forced me to turn it off.

I watched it with my friends one Christmas, the amount of cringe jokes and complaints we put out to survive was worthy of a MST3K episode.

Watched it once as a kid when it first aired (yikes, I'm old...).

Found a copy at a Wizard World convention last year. Bought it & watched it again, then made copies for some friends & family.

It's bad... It's so, so bad...but it's almost at that "so bad it's good" level. Although I could have done with some subtitles for the Wookies, done without the pr0n, & maybe less makeup on Mark Hammill. The best part was the Boba Fett cartoon by a long shot, but the segments with Art Carney weren't too bad.

I watched it all the way through, thanks to Rifftrax. It was still a painful view.

The unsubtitled wookies were bad enough, but watching Lumpy assemble whatever that device was, piece by piece, was fucking irritating.

If I recall correctly, the reason Mark Hamil had so much makeup on was to disguise the fact that he'd just been in a car accident and had wrecked his face up pretty good.

Deep hurting!

And if so, they went overboard ^^ (A search does find it was made well after the accident)

Bizarre thing? At the time, it actually got some good reviews. It's only with age did everyone start going O_o

Well the Holiday Special was a very much a product of its times much then Star Wars had been, but the times were changing and the Holiday Special repesented the 1970s TV at it's (unintentionally) silliest so it aged really quickly and badly when 1980s rolled around.

I'm also pretty sure it was intended to be immediately forgotten about even before it aired.
