Well?
Journeyman Protector Jaster Meerel or Clone of Jango Fett, the template for assloads of clones.
State your reasons in a post.
I like Jaster Meerel better, because it seems more plausible.

*Inserts EU Escape Clause here

Who says its not both?

He can't exactly go running around with Boba-Fett as his name, and whats he going to do in the mean time? :P

So what if he takes an assumed named for a few years to go monky for awhile then comes dusts off Dads old Duds and goes hunting

you never know :P

As Bean said, both stories could be true, if the EU doesn't metion Boba Fett's childhood, and they don't occur a few years later than or before AotC in the SW timeline.

Why waste the fuel and the time of the Tie pilots, instead just hire a bounty hunter to get the heretic.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Weren't the Anthology books declared to be part of the "Infinities" line of books? Stories that are nice but not part of the official storyline? Or was that just a couple of the books?

In any case, I like Bean's idea... mash both books together. Originally, the Jaster Mereel story gave some nice insight as to the point just before he became a bounty hunter... but the origin in AOTC explains PERFECTLY why he is so cold and emotionless: Watching his father get decapitated and then picking up the head is obviously the kind of thing that would mess up a kid. Fett's a perfect example of a clinical, cold logic sociopath.

I think the fact that he didn't pick up the head but actually picked up the helmet is a lot more scary. It seems to indicate that he's more attached to his 'father's' bounty hunter image than he is to his father himself. No wonder he turned out to be the best bounty hunter in the galaxy.

I hate to say this, but I am not entirely sure where Boba Fett's EU origin is explained. If it's in the Bounty Hunter trilogy that would explain it. I've been told to stay very very far away. I love the clone of the badest bounty hunter arc though. Especially the clone troopers.

I *hope* the Anthology isn't canon. If it is, it would mean that, had the Rebels failed at Endor, IG-88 would have conquered the universe.

i like the clone of Jango better. the EU of the prequels gives us a background of Jango Fett in the comic series. Jango Fett: Open Seasons. the first issue shows us that Jango's family is murderd by a rouge group of Mandalorians known as Death Fist. Jaster Meerel is one of the real Mandalorians who saves the child Jango Fett.

Original Trilogy EU explains that Boba Fett was born Jaster Meerel.

I'll happily state that I hated Boba Fett (in the original trilogy) for the same reason I hated Darth Maul. Not that they were cool and classy and fought like sons-of-bitches. But Fan-Boyism. The obsession of the masses with the character.

It wasn't until Ep2 when we had the Jango v Obi-Wan fight that I gained any respect for the Fetts as characters.

I actually like his new origin. I really did not like his old past, from the EU, and I thought it was really kind of stupid. Plus it removed much of the mystique around him without adding any depth to the story.

Incidentally, I plan on having a brief guest-appearance of Jango Fett in the book on the subject that I am writing, specifically because he was so cool in Episode II.

I like the sound of Bobba being a clone of the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy. not only That but he has far surpassed Jango in his hunting abilatys. If it were Boba in the dog fight with Obiwan you would be sure he would have made sure Obiwan was realy dead.

I prefer the clone explanation, since this actually means that sci-fi sci-fi for once depictings cloning used realistically. (a cloning company today, Clonaid actually offers to clone children for infertile people!! If a cloning corporation in our world offers that service, why wouldn't the Kaminoans??)

By the way, I have only heard of the EU explanation a long time after I watched AoTC.
