Lucasfilm to fans : Fuck You!

Anyone read Paublo's little column in the back of the latest Insider yet? He got asked the Ewok-Endor question. And rather then just a simple little blurb stating "It is the official position that Endor survived" or anything, he devots most of it to blasting the fans, titling us "armchair physicists", and stating we come up with "an entertaining degree of consistency" and a couple mor epassive aggressive slams.

Now it was one thing when he pulled this shit on his own during that Executor debate, when he posted in another forum mocking some of those he was arguing with. But now this got signed off by the editors and this is an official statement.

i take it the Ewok-Endor question is the whole Endor Holocaust thing brought up by Curtis Saxton ?

What!? That was a HUGE insult to dr. Saxton. His page Endor Holocaust has a thourogh scientific explanation as to why a mass extinction was likely to occur after the Battle of Endor. Isn't Pablo aware that dr. Saxton has written books and been consultant on books that now are part of low-level canon?

EDIT: Couldn't someone with Hyperspace ask Pablo for an explanation in the General Q&A Drop Box and mention the above facts. I would do it myself, but haven't got my last questions answered, so I think that I have fallen out of favor (it could be that I got one question answered).

To paraphrase the philosopher Homer (Simpson):
It's not that he doesn't know, he doesn't care.

I don't bloody get it.

Sure, we vs fans may deserve to be slammed for being too obessed with SW, so do costumed fans who queue up a month dressed up as Darth Vader.

But to be slammed for asking SW to be self-consistent with reality?

I like the way the idiot assumes that real physicist (ie- not an "armchair physicist") would think any differently, since Curtis happens to be one.

And where do they get off with this arrogant attitude toward the fans? In case they haven't noticed, they've burned a lot of their goodwill with a pair of seriously flawed prequels, a long, pointless refusal to release the original trilogy on DVD, and what amounts to a campaign to completely erase the classic version of the original trilogy from film history. There isn't really that much goodwill left.

Not to mention that Dr. Saxton has actually performed official work for LucasFilm.

You think they give a shit about goodwill? Lucas burned enough of it with releasing his updated versions of the originals, then refusing to aknowledge anything but those cuts when the eventual DVD release comes out this year.

Besides, it doesn't matter what he does, Episode III will be huge. And despite how much the hardcore fans bitch, we will still go see his movies, probably multiple times. If we really want to send a message, then we should consider a boycott of Episode III.

I think someone needs to remind the Insider and Lucasfilm that Curtis Saxton, who is real physicist and who has worked with them on several projects is the one who drafted the Endor Holocaust theory. That should at least shut them up if not get them to offer an apology.

In fact, maybe Wong should also contact Saxton and point out this little nugget to him and see what he thinks.

Was it not Pablo who made some comparison of SW to Bugs Bunny? I think he´d like it to be in the same class of seriousness.

Fucktard.

I've largely given up caring about the political bullshit. I just ignore it and go on as usual (I never really gave a shit about the intentional minimalism, the anti-scientific philosohpy, etc.) I just ignore it and work around it (its not like its a straightjacket.)

intentional minimalism
What´s this? Is it something to do with small numbers on a galactic scale?

Only a few hundred ships or the 1.2 million clones.

Literally most at SW at times seem to have blinders that they are talking about a galaxy.

Well the fact he's a VFX supervisor and denounces physics just shows he's a style over substance effects artist, pretty sad, though he's an old school effects artists, its no excuse for not having basic knowledge.

How can you supervise 3d artists if you have no clue about the physic engines involved in creation? Oh that's right, he doesn't really do anything, just nods when George approves what his department did. The whole point of CGI is to make it look REAL while being visually appealing. The best CGI is scenes where you can't tell its being used. /end rant

I don't see why everyone is griping. Don't you understand? It is absolutely imperitive that the Ewoks survived. Otherwise, we wouldn't have had the Ewoks cartoon, nor the moronic movie that they made about the Ewoks in the 80s.

We can't have cute, stupid, gullible little creatures getting blasted by the Rebellion's own actions, now can we? Its not physics that is most important, its the all-important cute-factor.

Thank you for your attention. I'm off to the kitchen to make myself some Ewok burgers.

I think Dr Saxton is too much of a class act to respond to a douche bag's baiting.

Just so you know, Ender is referring to comments made by Pablo Hidalgo, who works on Starwars.com's Hyperspace not Pablo Helman the VFX guy.

I went ahead asking Pablo in the Drop Box if he would care to explain. Since my monthly subscription will be terminated this month due to the new rules (I live in Sweden and the new terms doesn't appeal to me), it would be interesting if someone could monitor the Drop Box and see if he cares to answer and relay the answer in this thread.

Really? You mean they were trying to push those little shits down our throats before the movie came out? That sucks.

Hmmm, the Ewok 'movies' are supposed to take place before ROTJ.

EDIT: Found this on the Official Site:
A timeline published in the Star Wars Insider places the Ewok movies as happening a short time before Return of the Jedi. There is no Imperial presence visible on Endor, suggesting the films take place before the Death Star operation began in earnest.
The page also have also a possible 'explanation' why Wicket don't understand Leia in ROTJ:
Also, Wicket appears to learn english through his association with Cindel. It is likely that the language Cindel was speaking was not Basic, but another language, and that it was translated into english for the benefit of the viewing audience. Thus, Wicket doesn't understand what Princess Leia is saying when those two meet.

No, they were made after by set before RotJ.
