DECENT Pop-Up Blocker

Post by Dorsk 81 »

Someone please recommend a decent pop-up blocker. So far I tired Stopzilla and Pop-Up Stopper, seeing as I don't have a credit card or anything I ned a free one which neither of them are in their full form, so someone please, a decent, free, pop-up blocker if you would be so kind.

Try Netscape or Mozilla. They have built-in popup blocking and are all-around better browsers than the IE I assume you're using.

The Proxomitron tends to work fairly well. Look it up on Google.

The Google Toolbar now does popup blocking and is most effective at it.

The google Toolbar

Stops pop-ups, and gives all the advantages of having Google with you, everytime, everywhere.

Personally I just use ZoneAlarm Pro 4... A firewall and ad/popup-blocker in one.

What's a "pop-up window"? Oh yeah, now I remember. I use Mozilla so I never see them.

I'm surprised you mentioned that you wanted something better than Pop-Up Blocker, since I've been using it for over a year, and it's pretty much perfect for my needs.

It just seems to slow down my comp alot and some pop-ups still get through.

also does anyone know a "smart" pop up blocker, one that knows the difference between a java pop up and you opening a new browser window.

Surf with Opera. I like it better than both I.E. and Mozilla.

That's because the default setting is to block ONLY popups from a known list. I normally max it (so it prevents all popups, even legit ones), and if I find a link that has a popup that is necessary, I just used the hotkey to allow it to open. Of course, that was before Mozilla. Since then, pop-stopping is an obsolete practice.

I use Mozilla and haven't gotten a single unwanted popup since. :) Still, if they still annoy you, find out where they come from and block them with your hosts file.

Dorsk 81, if you're having a problem with your computer slowing down, the chances are you have some spyware installed. I had a friend who had what sounds like the same problem.
