Vietcong - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Post by weemadando »

WeeMadAndo: Vietcong sucks.
WeeMadAndo: Don't even pirate it.
WeeMadAndo: It take more than FIFTEEN FUCKING ROUNDS from an M1 carbine to drop a VC at point blank range.
Vympel: gay!
WeeMadAndo: Thats when character models don't collapse in on themselves creating a freaking jumble of polygons on the ground that scuttle about like fucking turtles on crack (I swear thats what they look like with the bamboo hats still being recognisable on the top).
WeeMadAndo: And did I mention that you can't fucking hit them when the models collapse, which seems to be every time you load or reload a game, meaning that if you die, you have to QUIT the PROGRAM, then restart it from your last save in order to get recognisable models?
Vympel: good lord.
WeeMadAndo: I mean its horrid. Simply fucking horrid.
Vympel: delete it. now.
WeeMadAndo: Hopefully patches might fix it...
WeeMadAndo: Somehow.
WeeMadAndo: Please...
Vympel: ugh
WeeMadAndo: Please lord let patches fix at least something.
Vympel: about the M1 carbine- it *was* a poncy gun
WeeMadAndo: OK. How about 5 fucking shots from a fuckign 12 ga at a similar range?
WeeMadAndo: Or a fucking clip from a thompson?
Vympel: that's just fucked.
WeeMadAndo: *places 12ga to VC's temple*
*pulls trigger*
*VC shouts, runs away like a fucking squirrel on crack firing their mosin-nagant from the hip while running with un-erring accurac*
Vympel: wtf ...

Yes, ladies and gentleman, this game really is that fucking bad.

You know I bought this game just yesterday because I wanted a game that has the mosin in it and I've not yet gotten around to trying it?
Nice prospects....

I'm glad I had never even heard of this piece of shit before now.

Hmm, tried it, no collapsing character models for me. Although that weapons thingy is quite annoying.

The worst thing though is that the hand grenades spontaneously explode in my hand when I go to throw them. Like, they must have about a 0.1 second fuse...

Shits me to tears as they would make life a lot easier. Plus I can't do the training missions because of that.

And Phong, I borrowed a friends copy of it (we have a regular CD swapping thing) and am glad that I didn't buy it.

Weird. I played the MP demo, and people went down in a few shots, no collapsing models, etc. Why they changed it for the full release is beyond me...

If you have an urge to kill Vietcong, I'd just suggest playing the Half-Life mod Heart of Evil...

reminds me of a game called Revolution. Fucking "Activision Value", good-for-nothing idiots. Avoid at all costs.

Ok even if the game sucks, it had one interesting weapon: the "laser" gun, which uses batteries that actually behave reallistically: the energy recharges itself, but the more you use it, the slower it recharges. Eventually you'll get from 0 to 100% ammo in an hour or so, then it's time to change batteries.

The game itself is crap. Imagine Half-Life, but your job is to clean the sewers. Then clean the roofs. Then clean the corridors. Yes, it's the "Roger Wilco FPS" before the Sarien Encounter. Ugh.

Weemadando, IMMEDIATELY patch the game! It removes most of the problems you mentioned.

It's a very good game, though some of the tunnel missions are annoying as hell.

That's why we started using gasoline and tear gas...

Heheh. :)

Before I realized that there might be a flashlight in the game, I had spent two hours in complete darkness, trying to find my way out of the tunnels. It was this close that I didn't grab the CDs and subject them to extensive torture.

I'd like change my comment from "very good game" to "fantastic game".

No 3D war game before this has reached the same level of atmosphere as Vietcong. It was fucking marvellous to defend a small radio outpost on top of a hill somewhere in Cambodia when the enemy was coming from everywhere around my squad. Flares illuminated the sky and tracer bullets zipped past.

I recommend the game to anyone who likes tactical 3D shooters.

OK, having patched Vietcong I will say that it now runs MUCH better. However I still think that OFP easily beats it out as most atmospheric War FPS. Hell even the War of Infamy mod beats it out.

I find the lead characters tendancy to have their voice to vary between ANH whiney farmboy luke (when he's doing voice over) to FMJ Animal Mother (when talking in game) to be really irritating. The voice over work isn't spectacular, but its fun.

And the patch makes weapon damage a bit more realistic, thank god.

In Australia, with a relatively new game: $90-$110

I hate it when I need a damned patch to fix the game.

I absolutly refuse to support a game that is unplayable in its unpatched state.

The patchmania sucks monky balls, and is nothing more than cheating the consumers.

What about Medal of Valor from the creators of Medal of Honor? Looks good, set in Vietnam instead of WWII.
