Did Microsoft break Youtube again?

Did Microsoft break Youtube again? I've installed this month's Win7 updates, and now I can't run any Youtube videos, not even the ones that actually show in a post.

<brief pause> Oh, that's nice — I can't run them on the Youtube site itself either.

I run Win 8.1 and I can run YT vids just fine, I actually watched some before logging into the forums today, if the problem is on the end of Windows then it must be something that doesn't extend to Windows 8.

I try very hard not to be smug about the fact I went Linux-only a while back, but good grief do Microsoft make it hard sometimes...

Is it just YouTube, or are other sites like Vimeo or Twitch out as well? Your GPU drivers might need updating to the latest version.

I'm on 10 and haven't had any issues with Youtube on Chrome. I don't run any other browsers on this PC to test them.

No idea if it's a Win 7 thing or not.

Do your sound drivers and wifi consistently work?

My Win7 VM works perfectly fine. I'd check what precisely is broken on your end.

Aaaand the videos are working again, after I'd shut down last night and restarted today. :banghead:

Must have been something left over from whatever "configuring" goes on after an update/restart. Come to think of it, does anyone know what "configuring" actually means in this case?

Yes, as it happens. (Well, except when I buy shit-tier wifi dongles from Wilkos, but those barely work on Win 7 either.)

Youtube is dependent on your browser. Maybe an update there screwed things up? Or an update that got half-way (it happens sometimes even when you let it update) and restrated when you weren't looking, so that's why its fine now.

Firefox profile corruption can also result in Youtube not working. In which case the solution is to refresh the profile (i.e. reset it). I had that happen to me. Just as well, since I switched to FF57+ at that point so the refresh cleared a massive amount of legacy crud away.
